    one. no intentional deaths. targeting and killing another person or animal partner will no be tolerated and may be punishable by 10 years in a federal facility outside the city.


    two. no permanent maiming of another person or animal partner. persons responsible will be required to pay any damages done and may face jail time if they are found uncooperative in this arrangement.


    three. players belong to the government over the time of the tournament. if you lose round one of the tournament, you will remain in custody until the end of the tournament season and may be separated from your partner for long periods of time.


    four. fighting outside the tournament field will not be permitted. offenders will be severely dealt with.


    five. tournament participants will be expected to reside on the arena grounds for the duration of tournament season, win or lose. they will be allowed to leave when they are not on call for a fight, but must be back by curfew. if curfew is broken the human and their partner will be separated until their next fight. no training or even communicating between partners will be allowed until the day of their next match.


    six. only one winner will be allowed at the end of tournament season. this person will be granted the power to decide the fate of those remaining. the winner will be granted grand prizes and will be exempt from tournaments for the next three years.


    seven. tournaments are required for all who apply from the age of 19 years old and up. once the individual is deemed unable to participate in tournaments anymore, they will be retired by a member of the tournament observation board. members of the board will put to a vote the eligibility of someone seeking retirement. board members reserve the right to bring an individual out of retirement if they see fit. this will be put to a vote as well.


    eight. if a tournament host/hostess deems the match as a close call, either party can make an appeal for a rematch. the match will be rescheduled by the host/hostess and both opponents may be separated from their partners until the next match. the host/hostess will retain the right to deal with the opponents as they see appropriate.

    how do these look for tournament rules? any additions or questions regarding these?


    Explanation ~

    - Tournaments function kind of like you'd imagine pokemon battles would. It's one-on-one play until one of the animals passes out from the pain. The strength of the human is just as important in these cases as you feel each other's pain and if the human decides they can't take it and forfeit, they may have to do jail time separated from their partner.

    - While killing another person's spirit animal is prohibited, it happens sometimes and rule number one isn't enforced super strictly

    - There are different tiers of the tournaments for different threat level animals. Low threat animals are paired in tier 1, medium threat in tier 2, and high threat in tier 3. Animal threat level is decided based on size, ferocity, and how dangerous that kind of animal is known to be. There are also animals that don't qualify at all and are deemed no threat. These people are simply exempt from tournaments.


    - The world is based in the future, but most of the technology and cultural mannerisms are modern-based. Technology and life would be pretty similar to what we're used to with the exception of large animals roaming the streets with people as casually as a person walking their dog.


    Possible Plots ~

    1. Very similar to the Hunger Games in that people get tired of being pushed around by an unjust government that is untouched by the rules, themselves. Rally around a leader and fight for their right to not participate in the tournaments and not have to live in constant fear of losing their partners.


    2. The Spirit Hunters start a revolt and start taking out people and their partners, determined to "set nature back on course." They believe the partnership of a human and animal to be unnatural and believe it their place to destroy the bond and anyone who gets in their way. People with animals that should render them powerful and untouchable are forced into hiding. This would be happening around tournament season too, so everyone would be gathered into specific spots, making them targets.


    I'm open to other suggestions ^_^

    adamance Would you be interested at all in a relationship between Elijah and Nyx? I could see them getting along swimmingly ^_^

    Also Dell could definitely be a tournament hostess! That would be a well paying job and something that she would be good to hire for since she doesn't participate in the tournaments, herself!

    love the tournament idea completely! one question is just what are the options the victor has for deciding the fate of others? death of animal, separation? you probs explained it but i missed it lol

    Honestly, don't worry about it! I was gonna have hosts/hostesses just be NPCs but if you want to play one, that's great!


    Options would include: separation, incarceration, maybe servitude, possibly death depending on the situation, or no punishment. Usually bribes and pressure from the crowd would encourage victors to lean towards a certain choice in punishment and the government gets kind of touchy when there's no further punishment because that's kind of the point of the games - to set people straight and remind them where they fall on the food chain.


    Also, if we wanted to go with the second plot I mentioned, we could have the active characters get to the farther levels of the tournament before the Spirit Hunters attack, getting them all in (or at least close to) the same spot? We also won't start the tournaments just immediately and give people a chance to get to know each other naturally before that, but that'll all start pretty quickly after the threat opens!

    Hmmm - Don't know if a wolf would be in the same tier as a tiger in the tournament but maybe they meet at the infirmary or something? Getting patched up before their next fight, Storm is always always always wary around men, especially when they get too close to Addison so maybe it would be sort of unique if Storm went up to Ben and didn't growl or anything and maybe even nuzzled him? Addison would be shocked since Storm NEVER does that and perhaps Dodger could take nicely to Addison too.

    jacksonwhittmore That's true. It would be possible for a wolf to defeat a tiger because their endurance is better, but may not stand up to other Tier 1 animals as well. Tier 2 might be more appropriate for Storm. As for the infirmary idea, we could definitely do that. They could also maybe meet before that in the bar where Nyx works? Since she and Ben live there, he'd be there a lot, watching out for her and just staying out of trouble. He and Dodger could also run into Addison and Storm after some kind of altercation on the street? Maybe Spirit Hunters or random civilians gang up on them and Ben tries to be a night in shining armor only to reveal he's actually kind of awkward withe a kind heart and good intentions?

    Awww that’s so cute, okay so maybe they run into at the infirmary first and Storm takes quite the liking to Ben for some reason and later after they’re both patched up they go their separate ways although eventually storm ends up dragging Addison to the bar where Ben and Nyx live (although Addison doesn’t know this) and runs into Ben again, they decide to go for a walk or something and that’s when the spirit hunters try to attack them?

    I like it! Except maybe they meet at the bar first? Once the tournaments start they're supposed to stay in apartments prepared at the premises and wouldn't be able to go home or out for a drink. The Spirit Hunters ganging up on them can happen later on after a trip to the infirmary.


    During tournament season the participants are supposed to live in the arena, but during the day and night they're allowed to leave, so long as they're back by the mandated curfew applied to tournament participants.


    There is only one large facility for all three tiers of the tournament. It's a really really large facility, but people can still meet and run into each other throughout this time, so it wouldn't be weird or impossible for them to see each other during this time, especially if they were looking for each other.

    for nyx and eli, do you want them starting off together, acquainted, or will they meet during the roleplay? do you have ideas when/where/how? i'm also assuming his spirit animal qualifies better for third tier instead of mid tier?


    also, dell can totally be the antagonist of some plots if you'd like a face to the wicked government. she might fit that appeal fairly well cx

    adamance Maybe Eli can meet Nyx in the bar after one of her performances? He could be an admirer or something and they could develop a friendship first? Or even a friends with benefits "live in the moment" type relationship? Nyx has a history of abusive boyfriends and definite abandonment issues and she hides all of that with humor and fun-loving thrills, so tying her down might be kind of difficult ^_^"


    As for Dell, that'd be an interesting idea... maybe she could enforce the rules during tournament season or something. I don't know how involved you want her to be or how strict or whatever, but it might be interesting if she picks out one or two of the characters to harass specifically?


    And as far as Eli's animal placement... do you want the caracal in Tier 3 with the lion and tiger or did you mean the lower tier? I put her in Tier 2 originally because she's a medium sized carnivorous cat who could probably hold her own in a fight but maybe not against a fully grown lion or tiger. That said, I don't know that much about this breed of cat and am more willing to accept any constructive comments about what you think her capabilities would include :)




    Also, I'm thinking about putting up the roleplay thread tonight... Do y'all want to go ahead and start and let other people join in if they want to or do you want to wait and see if we pick up anymore characters?
