    — Cranepaw

The dilute tortie sat patiently outside the apprentice den, looking up at the clouds, letting her mind wonder. With a creative imagination like hers, starring up at the sky was often a good way to spend her time as she couldn't get herself into trouble by doing that. Lately, she had been thinking a lot about her mother and adoptive father and where they had gotten to, what was out there. "Don't think about leaving the Clan stupid... It's all about being loyal," she sighed convincingly to herself, "doesn't matter if life feels boring or repetitive." She pawed hopelessly at the ground before shaking her head frantically, "No. No. No. I've got this! I've just got to make most of my days! Maybe someone wants to go on a patrol with me or something!" and with that, the lanky girl was up on her long legs looking for her siblings or anyone who'd join her.

  • Fangkit wasn't often lost in thought, but when he was it was usually... fantasies about being a warrior, about ripping his enemies apart to protect the Clan he was born into, catching boundless amounts of prey to feed many. He would be a leader one day, he swore it- he'd be a hero of WindClan, a leader who took no crap from the other Clans, who did everything to help WindClan even if he died doing so. He'd be told in the stories of elders, in legends, for being a ruthless yet benevolent leader- a living oxymoron, a memorable cat to say the least. That was... indeed, who he wished to be. It seemed Cranepaw too was lost in thought, until her chattering ripped Fangkit away from his daydreams. Ears perked up as his pale form trotted over to the older she-cat, examining her with his ashen gaze. "Ooh, I'd love to go... not allowed, though. Make sure you catch me somethin', though!" he chimed, a tad disappointed that he couldn't attend... soon he'd be Fangpaw, though, an apprentice. Where he could go where he wanted, and then he'd be Fang-something-else, and then maybe even Fangstar!

With a twitch of her ears, Cranepaw was snapped out of her self-chatter by the little hero-to-be. As if she switched from lonesome crazy cat who talked to themselves to Windclan's extroverted socialite the she-cat was up on all fours and smiling politely at Fangkit. Cranepaw was very different from the white kitten! She hated raising her paws in an act of violence and would only hunt to feed, not as sport (the thrill of hunting.) However, she did love to play games and quickly she dropped into a hunter's crouch. "Why go out to catch prey? When I see one right here?" she playfully joked. When a kit, Cranepaw struggled to play with her siblings... she spent most of her time worrying for her mother's sake. However, as she grew she learned that there was something missing from her concerned way of living. Her desire for adventure and excitement was usually contained within her imagination but she'd definitely let it out when it came to playing with kits.

"Blah, blah, blah. Too much talking happening right now if you ask me." No one had in fact asked him, but the slightly grumpy apprentice had popped his head out of the apprentice's den to say that anyways. He hadn't actually understood much of the small conversation that had passed but all he knew was that one moment he was peacefully slumbering and the next he was roused by a pair of voices. "Can't a cat get a whole days rest around here?" The lazy tabby's voice was lighter this time, spiked with a pinch of amusement once he took in the sight of Fangkit and Cranepaw, the latter of which he didn't recognize all that much. Hmm. His gold-green eyes skimmed over the white kitten, a smirk playing on his features while he meowed, "Bummer. Looks like you're what's for lunch today little Fang." He rubbed his face with his paws, trying to wipe away the sleepy look that was surely plastered all over his face before he glanced at Cranepaw.

"Although ya'know he probably wouldn't be all that tasty. He's mostly bone." If this was any other kit then he'd probably keep his mouth shut about hypothetically eating them but this wasn't just any other kit. Fangkit seemed like he could handle a little joke like this. Duckpaw had seen him basically dissect a piece of fresh kill just to see what was on the inside, so the little bugger probably had some tough skin.

The familiar grumpy grumbles of Duckpaw had quickly altered the playful atmosphere Cranepaw was going for and what felt like a goofy joke quickly became a stupid idea... Whether that was the dark tabby's idea, the anxious she-cat was quick to second guess herself. She quietly cleared her throat and pulled herself up onto her long legs. "I... I wasn't actually going to eat him. It was meant to be a game... y'know?" she nervously explained, doing her best to avoid eye-contact. "I don't know... I always saw my siblings playing games like that." She cocked her head with a somewhat dumbfounded expression on her face before breaking into a huge grin. "Maybe you could show us a better game? PLEASE DUCKPAW!" she exclaimed taking an excited step closer to him.

Was it something he said? Probably. Confusion filtered into his gaze as he watched her face morph into a nervous puddle and he couldn't hold back a quick snort at her soft response. He hadn't been mean or anything! Right? Sheesh. "Yah, I know. I was trying to play along. Guess I need to work on my delivery of jokes more often." Duckpaw meowed before her sudden change in appearance shocked him, causing the lanky tom to take one step back. Whooah there. He paused before answering, his head tilting from side to side as he weighed his options. Having never had any siblings to play with his games as a kit were whittled down to solo ones. "How about we just play who can stay the quiet the longest and I can go back to sleep?" Heh. He wouldn't mind that actually. "Or...I dunno. Geez. Ask Fangkit over here, he's pretty good at coming up with wacky ideas." His paw gestured towards said kit before he plopped himself down, figuring that he was gonna be here for a bit.

Feeling foolish once again, Cranepaw shuffled her paws nervously but as the tom continued she began to feel more at ease. "Just a misunderstanding, its okay... He doesn't hate you..." she thought to herself as she exhaled. His suggestion of sleeping had gone right over the dilute tortie's head before she turned to face Fangkit. With a gentle smile she purred "if not then the two of us can go for a walk!" she added as it seemed like Fangkit was not interested with playing with the apprentices.
