"I HAVE SLIPPED THE SURLY BONDS OF EARTH" -- GENERAL
-- This roleplay is based loosely upon the concepts of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.
The year is 3000, and all the people of Earth, Mars, and every distant planet of the Solar System are governed by a powerful unified force known as the Solar System Force (Solsys). There have been great leaps and bounds in technological advancements. People no longer age and remain youthful in appearance until the very end of their lives, disease has allegedly been long-eradicated, and babies are genetically engineered in test tubes.
But all these achievements have not come without sacrifice... and some are desperate to hold onto the ancient ways.
In a system where pregnancy is taboo, birth control is widespread, and abortions are kept under the radar, a small colony of people believing in the illegal idea of natural birth are sent to live on a outcast labor group on the Galilean moon of Ganymede. Labeled "the Borns" for their far-fetched ideology, they dwell in a massive crater called Anat, the only warm zone located next to a magma bed at the bottom of the crater. Beyond the crater are fields of ice. Strange creatures dwell in the seas and glaciers, so leaving is considered a death sentence.
Life is hard, but satisfying. Solsys leaves the Borns alone most of the time, and they mainly keep to themselves. But all of that is about to change.
"SUNWARD I'VE JOINED THE TUMBLING MIRTH OF CLOUDS" -- SETTING
Even on Ganymede there is a functioning system. Cities are built upon layers in the crater on top of each other, like stacks of pancakes. There are three cities on Ganymede: Oretown, Junktown, and Docktown.
In the pit of Anat, at the very bottom are the miners. This task is extremely dangerous considering how close it is to the magma bed. Drilling is done here and sometimes, lava will flood the mining tunnels and kill workers. Miners forge their living in utter darkness, since they live at the bottom of the pit. They sell metal scraps and handmade tools to the other cities above them. This town is called Oretown.
The next level up is a town called Junktown. People living here craft their own objects out of materials that they buy, sell, and trade from Oretown and Docktown. The people who live here are crafters. They take what they can get mostly, and while they are extremely poor they live safer lives than the miners.
At the very top is Docktown. Here, vessels dock to refuel. Most of the people here are travelers or hunters. They either fly out their vessels to other planets for resources, or they hunt strange alien creatures in the depths of Ganymede’s oceans. Most hunters are considered crazy and reckless, but it is a job that must be done for food and hide.
Other moons and planets have other colonies of people with differing beliefs. Since it is illegal for the government to issue death sentences and prisons are usually too full to contain such a large population, people just get shipped to other planets and left to their own devices. People have their citizenship revoked from the Solsys Registry, which monitors their activity, when they are sent to these “exile planets”. Phobos, Deimos, and Ganymede are the most popular exile planets. Religious people are sent to Phobos, Borns are sent to Ganymede, and genetic accidents are sent to Deimos. The richest people live on the moon, but most people live on Earth and Mars (although Earth is a bit of a dump). Mars is a hotspot for new neighborhoods and development, and most of the middle class lives there.
"HOVERING THERE I'VE CHASED THE SHOUTING WIND ALONG" -- THE SPACE RACE
Five teenage Borns on Ganymede couldn't care less about what Solsys is doing. They spend their days fishing for aliens in Docktown and flying homemade junk-ships around the planet's thin atmosphere. But when a sport called "vessel sparring" explodes across the Solar System - a space vessel dogfight - the kids can't help but be drawn into the dangerous and reckless fray. Recently, vessel sparring became a government-recognized sport, and there will be a massive Solar System-wide tournament hosted. Any official planet citizens can participate.
The prize?
The winning team will become the head pilots of Solsys' newly-formed offshoot, the Universal Force, which will venture into deep space, exploring realms and galaxies no one has ever seen before. The five Borns know that the tournament doesn't concern exiles like them. They're not official citizens, so they can't participate anyway. But when Solsys begins to threaten their home, the only chance they have left may be to try to enroll in the tournament, and, hopefully, change the galaxy.
