Question about armor rule

  • I noticed it said armor wasn't allowed? Does this just mean armored mutations? I have an inventor character and was planning on having her make partial pads of armor items for her companion praying mantis(who's not just a pet, but another full on character of mine). Does the rule only apply to inborn armor mutations that arent seperatable? Full body armor? Or any and all armor at all, and regardless of species?

  • Any and all armor. Even if you aren't gonna use it for battle, it is an unfair advantage. Plus the world has degraded so much that most materials to make armor would be rusted/destroyed. Sorry. :(

oof ok. Even if its like...a piece from a mouse skull tied on top of her head or thorax? She's a praying mantis so i gave her mild super strength in the limbs to make her at least a little more offensively viable, just trying to figure out how i should buff her defense a bit to make her at least a little more than an OHKO.

hmm ok...if she trains up her super strength a bit to control it more and in more parts of her could she use that to gain some thorasic resistance if not caught off guard/can prepare?

  • Super strength is going to have a limit put into place on it, based upon the animal size and inherent strength. Once we decide that limit, I can certainly get back to you about it.

  • Sorry to butt in, but I too had a question about armor/super strength in battle.

Though it is definitely disadvantageous for such a small character to fight, is it too easy/over-powered for a larger animal to be fighting?

Say in a raid, a canine (average size, perhaps a Golden Retriever) joins the battle, but the canine's opponent is a dragon that's too large for it to fight?

How could a smaller creature have more power/ability to fight this larger creature?

i'm sorry if i come off as rude or anything sdkgnerkjgt

i just didn't know how to go about this when a character is pitted in a really bad situation they can't really fight in, especially if super strength is going to be limited?

  • Well, that is one reason we are limiting the power. Because let's say we dont and now suddenly the dragon also has super strength. Its going to be capped in respect to the animal somehow. As to prevent a dragon from being even more powerful. But we also have a cap on dragons weight and size. They also cannot have armor.

Unfortunately there will never be a perfect balance. Even if we removed those dragons you still easily have much larger animals pitted against smaller ones.

Do you have any suggestions to make about how we can improve this situation? I'd love to hear from members about how you feel and present it to the staff team. :)

  • no no right, of course, i understand with dragons not being able to become more powerful than they are, but even if it's not just dragons, i feel like there should still be some way for all characters to fight in an equal manner despite not being the same species.

the problem is because a lot of people will believe its still "unfair" in the end i guess, but there's nothing i know what to do about it? i have a lot of hard times wording things probably bc english is not my best

i think, but speaking for myself mostly, that we could maybe improve things by elaborating more on the power capabilities and restrictions? i still have trouble figuring out what i can and cannot do based on the short descriptions of the powers from the Codex.

like telepathy, is there a range for this power? does my character have to have any specific limitations on reading/sending thoughts? or the sight, as in how far into the future can one see, and for how long can they do this? this also applies to many elemental powers and manipulation powers as well; my main questions are "what are the limitations of these? what can/can't they do? what repercussions can they have on the physical/mental body"

  • this reminds me how i remember in Ye Olden Days when you needed to work a lot to get a really strong species body, like they were thousands to a million of FK to buy even bears and lions etc. (i kinda miss being able to "earn" up for powers and species, honestly) I remember like...when they started popping up, and the smaller characters ended up doing a lot of training to adapt and managed to find their way. same with more and more powers.

i think i also miss that system because you couldn't just get advantages off the bat and no matter what route you decided to take to get it(you could practice up with a character in melee fights, you could save for powers Or inherently strong bodies, and would need to work a lot to get both an advantaged body and powers in a well practiced character), it felt like you had to earn your strength, but that's me getting off topic lol oops. this was before dragons etc.

yea i was thinking about (when i was initially thinking about bringing her back) the minor defensive items + super strength to work to make her like...as viable as like, say a small cat(as in has a fair enough amount of potential with practice, but needs more strategic work than say a lion would) ><"

i'm hoping weaker species are limited less then by the super strength limits? like an inherently strong character could have a slight buff but one like Lysol could reach viability at the least.

i think i have an idea though?

instead of %s for powers like we have now, characters could have balance points or something. maybe they could earn a few more the more dedicatedly you work on them and play with them(i mention this because i really, really did like being able to earn things, tbh, back in The Day. like the full potential would need to be unlocked. but this isnt at all necessary to the system i have in mind)? but they would always at least start at a certain default "cap".

current species, melee fighting skill level, powers, certain items, technical skills(like, Intella is a genius who's an engineer/inventor and creates stuff. i refuse to give her any notable powers since i don't feel like her having both that and the stronger powers would be fair), could all contribute to this score/total.

certain handicaps could subtract from their total(say, having three legs would, but not one like Intella's mutism, as that wouldn't really effect her fighting capacity much). this could also be interesting if someone wants to readjust their character's skillset or give them a new power, but they reached the cap, if things like a leg being hacked off(an obvious disadvantage) subtracted from the total.

it would be like a readjustment, i'm thinking, of the % system, that would include things such as species and body state, items, and other misc skills that could give advantages like a power would.

so if for example if the cap is like, 100 points, let's say a domestic feline is 10 points, different types of tools could range from 20-80 depending on the variety and how many they have to choose from(since Intella is an engineer, she would be maxed out on this so 90 for her based on these things, which would limit her from having any powers except super minor ones). Or say a healthy average dragon, that could be 80 to start. it would also give a stable power level system for characters rather than relative, subjective guestimates, and make communicating that easier than just needing to estimate our characters.

if we wanted to include melee(as in, that specific character is fighting sans items and sans powers) fighting experience/skill, i think it should range from 0-10 points depending on what "level" that character is supposed to be at that type of fighting; my idea up there for the cap to increase slightly with more work on the character would be to encourage room for natural progression of this skill level instead of being equally able to make an extreme character off the bat who's also large and has powers af. there'd be more motivation for training etc again like i remember their being when things were purchasable with earned currency, but something like this would actually be encouraging fairness at the same time as that, as well as upping the engagement of feeling like you're really involved in your character's improvement rather than just needing to choose when they do. but again, without this section could work as well for the sake of balance!

  • I'm not saying it is a bad idea, we've discussed such a thing before. However, we feel it would gamify the RP too much. It'd also take quite a bit to code something like that and enforce it. It isn't really feasible right now or any time in the near future.

I will work on making a guide with staff's help on how the powers are going to work. I am hoping we can come to a conclusion that is going to make larger characters capped more than smaller, though.

    oooh, okay.

maybe an idea to explain how larger and larger would mean more restrictions could be that the amount of cells/mass a character has, the more taxing powers are in this universe? and have much more and more severe side effects/use a lot more energy or something? So even if a larger character might have a power, it would be much much more risky/dangerous it would be for them to use them in that large form? so that way it wouldn't be that larger characters/characters currently in a strong body couldn't have powers; it would just explain why they're more limited in their usage of them, and give larger characters with powers an equally scaled/exploitable weakness if they chose to use a power?

sorry if i'm rambling a lot, i just get a lot of ideas and wanna try to help ><""
