    Plot:

Muse A is a senior in high school, ready to get out of the suffocating city of Castlebrook, Georgia.

They've lived here all their life, but since their mother and father were killed in a freak accident when Muse A was young,

it just hasn't felt like home. Suddenly people are looking at you differently... if they're looking at you at all. To make it all worse,

Muse A's home life sucks too. Their adoptive mother, who happens to be Muse A's mother's sister

is a world class witch and is willing to stop at nothing to get her own

children ahead in life. Knowing that Muse A has potential to break away from this place and leave it forever, the adoptive mother

does everything in her power to make their life a living hell.

Muse B, on the other hand, has everything they want. They're talented, attractive, popular, and perfect. Life's great! Or at least that's how it looks.

The two constantly meet around school, though they never have conversations lasting more than a few minutes

because of some interruptions. They really start getting to know each other and even share a few moments here and there when Muse A starts working for

Muse B's family, cleaning their house and taking care of the property.

Eventually the annual Halloween Howler Dance rolls around and Muse B is planning to attend with one of Muse A's siblings.

With everyone in costumes, Muse A thinks that this is finally their chance to get closer to Muse B.

This, of course, proves more difficult with Muse A's family in the picture, but could the two ultimately defy all odds?

Worlds collide and lives change forever. Sound familiar? Cause it's a tale as old as time.

    ♚ Cassandra Elaine Hall

    — Eighteen years old.

    — Goes by Cassandra or Cassie, and Cass is acceptable to those very close to her, of whom there are none at the moment.

    — Charming and charismatic, highly popular, bit of an unintentional flirt, talented in both athletics and the arts, and yet deeply unhappy. She is also resentful of authority and seeks something to fill the hole left in his heart.

    — Has no body modifications of her own, but loves the idea of getting one.

    — Born into a rich family with a father she despises. Her mother died when Cassie was only seven years old. Since then, she has been taken care of by various caretakers while her father is often away on "business trips". She almost never sees her father, who believes that he can keep his daughter satisfied by providing her with various gifts and a ridiculously large house. This neglect sparked a rebellious streak that led all of her past caretakers to quit their jobs, but now that she is eighteen his father neglects to hire a new one.

    — A great athlete and singer. Her voice is sometimes described as angelic, although her songwriting ability is lacking.

    — Despite being incredibly popular in school, she does not consider any of the people she associates with to be her friends.

    — Faceclaim is Alycia Mercedes.

    Hope this is good!

  • Hey! So sorry, but would you be okay if we do a GxB roleplay? I'm no good at all at same sex partners and I can definitely write the girl if you're more comfortable with that. If not, that's fine too! So sorry for the confusion - I didn't communicate that very well ~

  • That's fine! I've edited my post to reflect the change. Fair warning, though: I'm not the best at writing girls, so this will be a new experience for me.

Jonas loved mornings. Looking down at the camera in his hands, he smiled to himself. The property he lived on with his cousins and his aunt was huge and there was a lake in the woods that was perfect for taking pictures of the sunrise. No one else in his house got up before the sun was in the sky, making this the perfect time for the young man to get some time alone. Mornings like these proved to be the best medicine for a kid like Jonas. Without this little escape, he wasn’t sure how he would make it through the day.

Somewhere in the distance, a bell echoed across the property. Aunt Hodge was awake and it was time for Jonas to get to work. Turning away from the lake to walk back towards the house, the young man froze in his tracks as a huge stag raised its head in curiosity. The animals here had gotten over being afraid of him, so as he raised his camera to snap a few pictures, the deer made no attempt to flee. In fact, it even looked like it might’ve been posing for him. He could have stayed out there forever, in the company of the animals and nature, but when he heard the distant ringing of the bell again, he knew he had to go. Saying a quiet thank you to the buck, he carefully skirted around the creature, sure to give it a wide berth, before taking off towards the house.

By the time he reached the house again, Jonas was a bit winded. He stopped at the small shed-like house that had been erected in the yard for him to live in. Aunt Hodge hated spending money on him, but this had been a mutually beneficial arrangement that kept Jonas out of the house when he was unwanted. Grabbing his backpack and doing a quick once-over of his appearance, he shrugged. The mornings had been colder lately, with the promise of warming up only slightly by the end of the day. For his outing, Jonas had dressed in a pair of faded jeans and a plain, dark grey sweater over a white t-shirt. It wasn’t fancy, but it would have to do.

The bell rang one last time before the young man burst into the kitchen, looking winded and a bit unkempt. Immediately the old woman holding the bell frowned at him, her nose wrinkling up with judgement. “Where have you been? I’ve been ringing that bell for almost fifteen minutes.” Jonas wanted to make a comment about how he wasn’t a trained dog or a servant, but in a way, that was all he was to these people. Instead, he sat his stuff down by the door and ran a hand through his wild brown hair. “Sorry, I was getting ready. I came as fast as I could.”

She simply scowled as she put the bell down on the window sill and turned away from him. “Clearly you did not come ‘as fast as you could,’ but no matter. Go wake up your brothers and tell them it’s time to go. You will be driving them to school and home today.” The hag spoke with such conviction as if this simple truth had already been decided. Jonas bit his tongue to keep from saying something to get himself in trouble, before spitting out a simple, “yes, ma’am,” and turning to head upstairs. An hour and a couple bruises later and the three boys were piling into Jonas’s jeep. The vehicle was old and a bit ratty, but it was one of the few things left to him by his father, so he couldn’t complain.

Jonas rode in silence while Rodney and James argued about something or discussed who they were planning on taking to the dance in a month. Jonas had never understood the obsession with attention those two had, but he knew better than to draw attention to himself by opening his mouth. Instead, he just rolled his eyes and sped up, hoping to get to school faster. When they finally got there, the other two wasted no time getting out. James turned to face Jonas and pointed a finger at him. “Be ready to go at 4 o’clock, okay? No later than that.” Jonas raised his hand and waved that he’d heard James, driving towards the parking lot without a word. Pulling his jeep in next to a fancy looking smaller car, he sighed and took a moment to clear his head before getting out and collecting his stuff. This was going to be a long day.

  • // Oh my gosh, no, that's good!! I love long posts lmao

Also, I'm sorry that it took me so long to get this up! I had school and then immediately afterwards my parents wanted to go out to eat somewhere and I just got home. I really hope this post makes up for the wait!

Glacial blue eyes blinked open at the sound of an alarm going off. The girl immediately moved to press the snooze button, but in her desperate attempts to find it without moving her face from the pillow only resulted in her knocking the alarm clock off of her nightstand. She groaned out of annoyance before finally getting up and finding the damn thing, which had fallen under her bed. The brunette pushed the snooze button, finally ending the continuous and highly irritating drone of the clock. She considered for a moment going back to bed, but if she did she would be late for school. But would that really be so bad? Despite the intense desire she felt to play hooky that day, she knew that doing so would probably result in a scolding from her father, and that would probably come from over the phone.

Unlike Jonas, Cassandra hated mornings. Mornings meant that she had to get up and go waste a few more hours of her life at school. They also served as a reminder of how empty her house was. In a normal family, someone might wake up to the sound of eggs and bacon sizzling on a stove, or the easy chatter of conversation from family members who had already woken, or the sound of the morning news on the TV, which strangely always seemed to be extraordinarily loud. No, mornings for Cassie were quiet, and eerily so. She didn't wake up to any of those sounds. The only thing she experienced in the morning was sorrow because she didn't have that kind of family that she longed for.

Reluctantly the girl rose from her place on the floor and put her clock back on the nightstand. She turned and took a look at the calendar on her wall. Shit. It was October 31st. That meant that the Halloween dance would be that night, and of course she would be expected to attend and hang out with people who she doesn't even consider to be her friends. And of course that Rodney guy had asked her to go with him. But could she tell him no? No, of course she couldn't. Although, they would all be in costumes, so maybe it would be possible to slip away for a while. Maybe even leave outright.

Cassandra sat down on her bed and retrieved her phone from the nightstand. Miraculously, it had not been knocked down in her struggle to hit snooze. She took a moment to scroll through her social media feeds and then check the weather. She wasn't particularly surprised to see that it would be cold that day. It wouldn't be freezing, but the chill would be undeniable. A typical autumn day, really. Cass actually quite enjoyed autumn though; the days never became bitingly cold, and the air was consistently crisp and fresh. The only part that she hated about the season would have to be an abundance of holidays. She enjoyed the time off from school, but certainly did not appreciate the fact that she had no real family to celebrate with during this time.

With a deep sigh, Cassandra finally stood and made her way to her closet. She wouldn't be trying to impress anyone at school today. The time to do that would be tonight when she could dress up as someone that she wasn't. She'd never put much thought into it before, but it was strange to think that there was a whole holiday based around pretending to be someone you aren't. Especially so for Cass because she ended up doing that every day.

From her closet, she retrieved a simple white tee and a long and woolly mustard yellow cardigan as well as a pair of dark jeans. She would complete her overly-simple look with a pair of white high-top white Converse. She ran a brush through her hair a few times as well so it wouldn't be so messy, but today she genuinely didn't care what people thought of her appearance. Hell, she didn't even put on mascara, which was something that she usually did even if she didn't wear a full face of makeup.

After assessing her appearance in the mirror, she grabbed her keys and her bookbag and proceeded to make her way through the silent and much-too-large house to her car. She drove a small white Mercedes, which was probably impressive to some of the people at her school but she only saw it as another shitty attempt by her father to make her happy. His attempts were futile, however. No matter how many gifts he gave her, there was no forgiving how he abandoned her on a regular basis.

Cass hopped into the small car and stuck the keys in the ignition. She felt it rumble to life, and after adjusting the song playing through her speakers, she drove off. Quickly checking the clock, she realized that there was time enough before school started to get a cup of coffee and a bite to eat. She stopped at her favorite local coffee shop and got herself a white chocolate mocha as well as a breakfast wrap before heading to school.

The brunette parked in the most convenient parking spot she could find. She took a bite of the wrap and took a sip of her coffee before she even considered getting out, and just as she began to do so a worm-looking Jeep pulled into the spot immediately to her right. For a moment she considered staying in the car, but something told her to get out, so that's what she did. She reached over and grabbed her bag from the passenger seat and removed her keys from the ignition before leaving and locking her car.

Cassandra looked over at the person who had just left exited the Jeep, and she was pleasantly surprised to see Jonas. She didn't know him well and if asked would probably define their relationship as a loose acquaintanceship. Their interactions had been few and far between, but from the few times when they had talked to each other she had gotten the sense that he was an okay guy. Plus, she was pretty sure he was cousins slash step brothers with Rodney. Based on that she decided that maybe it wouldn't be so bad to walk inside with him.

"Good morning," she spoke sweetly, offering a half-hearted but genuine-looking smile.

Jonas was taking his sweet time to get out of the car, giving Rodney and James time to get into the building so he wouldn't be seen with them. As he got out and started collecting his things, he paid no mind to the Mercedes that had pulled in behind him. People who drove cars like that didn't pay him much mind and frankly, he was okay with that. There were some benefits to being invisible. It was for that reason, however, that he was caught off guard when a female's voice spoke up behind him, apparently talking to him. Jonas glanced over his shoulder, acknowledging the phrase before looking again and realizing she was talking to him. Raising his eyebrows, a number of emotions ran through his head before his system rebooted and he nodded to her. "Morning," he responded, turning back to grab his bag before flinging it over his shoulder.

He knew who she was... Cassandra Hall, the most well-liked popular girl at Castlebrook High School, and one of the prettiest girls in the entire small town. She also happened to be the girl that his brother had made very clear was off limits. She was a bad idea and Jonas knew better than to pursue bad ideas at this point. All he had to do was graduate and get out of this place... keep his head down and work hard, saving up money as he could. Soon enough, no one would be able to keep him here, not even that crazy old woman or her sons. With his backpack over his shoulder, Jonas walked towards the school without another word to Cassie.

As he approached the building, he ran a hand through his hair, further mussing it up in his usual unkempt style. The scar on the back of his hand looked darker today as the cold air paled his skin and the tattoos on his left arm peeked out of the end of his sweater sleeve. He tried to keep his sleeves down this time of year to cover his ink. Teachers tended to target him when they saw the tattoos, labeling him a troublemaker and going harder on him than they did on other students. He knew about the rumors going around the school, no doubt started by his brothers. No one trusted him and he trusted no one.

Once he was in the school, he was easily lost in the crowds of the hallway. Like always, he kept his head low and made his way to his locker, avoiding the normal roughhousers. Inside his locker were the bare necessities, books and notebooks as well as a small bag full of extra camera film and cleaner. He was about to start collecting his things for class when someone jumped up behind him and yelled. Jonas nearly jumped into his locker but the guy grabbed his shoulder and whipped him around before shoving his back against the metal. It was a kid in a mask surrounded by other kids in masks. They laughed before letting go of his shirt and moving off, taking off the masks as they went. Jonas sighed and rolled his eyes, leaning back against the locker as he calmed himself down again. "I hate Halloween..."

  • Cassandra was fully prepared to head inside with the male, but then in an odd act of what she took to be rudeness, he marched away before she could even get another word in. She felt a bit disheartened by his actions, but if she had known why he chose not to walk with her maybe she could come to understand him. Unfortunately that isn't what happened and she was left slightly upset with the male. She stood there for a moment longer, coffee and breakfast still grasped firmly in her hands, and watched him disappear inside the building before making her own way inside.

As soon as she stepped inside, a small crowd of her "friends" approached her and began to pester her. They were all Cassie this and Cassie that, and she wasn't really feeling up to dealing with them. Even still, she kept up her facade of an easygoing and positive attitude. She had a reputation to maintain; she might not have asked for the popularity, but now that she had it she was going to keep it.

Cassandra moved through the hallways in the direction of her first class with an easy elegance. People came to her and walked with her for a few moments before getting swept into side conversations with some regularity. She had become accustomed to this come-and-go thing, but she didn't particularly enjoy the practice.

Her trek to her first class was for the most part uninteresting. It was a routine that she had become used to over the past few years, and truly she was content to not speak to anyone else for the rest of the day. But that was an impossible wish.

The most intriguing part of everything was seeing Jonas get pushed against the wall by a few masked kids. She wasn't particularly surprised and honestly had expected something like that to happen at some point today. Unfortunately though, she was a bit too late to stop them. Even if she had gotten there in time, Cassandra wasn't sure that she would have done anything about it considering what Jonas had done earlier. So for now she would ignore the whole thing and continue to her first class.

// Should we like,,, skip to the dance or something lmao,, or did you have more ideas for what would happen in the morning

    ooc:

So, what I'm thinking is we go through this class and Jonas and Cassie get paired together for this big project (no negotiations on partners). This really ticks Rodney off, but there's nothing they can do about it. Neither Jonas nor Cassie is happy about it, but they go with it.
Then we'll timeskip again to after school and Jonas is gonna go to a job interview to do some landscaping for this rich family in town. As it turns out, Cassie's father is home and boom, he's the one hiring. Jonas gets the job and this will give them an excuse to get closer throughout the story.

Thennnnn we can timeskip to the dance that night and Jonas can sneak out and show up late. Also, Rodney's for sure gonna ask her to the dance, sooo ^_^

    ic:

For the rest of the morning, Jonas was able to successfully avoid his brothers and their goon squad from the athletic department. Most of his time was spent in the dark room in the back of the art room, developing some of his photos from that morning. Another rumor someone had started was that Jonas liked to touch himself in there when no one could see him, but when he was here it didn't matter what other people had to say. When he was in the art department, he was home. Unfortunately, he could never stay there more than a few minutes or hours. He treasured every moment, but eventually he always had to leave.

Jonas was almost on time for class, which was the norm for him. Always close, but never on time. The bell had just finished ringing when he came through the door, looking disheveled as ever. "Nice of you to join us, Mr. Wilde." A few snickers sounded around the room, but Jonas just made his way to his normal seat in the back. No one bothered him on the way, though he caught sight of Rodney smirking as he passed him. Once he was in his seat, the teacher started reviewing their last history lesson again. Jonas toned him out immediately.

While the teacher droned on in the front of the room, Jonas doodled and sketched in his notebook. He redrew the scene of the lake he'd stood at that morning, the stag in the distance as well. He didn't pay a lick of attention until the bell rang. Everyone immediately started collecting their things to leave but Mr. Grande raised a hand. "Before you leave, check the paper by the door. There you'll find your partners for the upcoming project. All pairings are non-negotiable. Have a good day." And with that, pandemonium ensued as the class fought to get to the list. Jonas didn't even bother getting up, waiting and watching from where he sat. Cassandra was in the class with him too, as well as Rodney and James and about half the football team. There were a number of ways this list could screw him over.

When the crowd started to thin, Jonas got up. He noticed Rodney approaching Cassie out of the corner of his eye, no doubt going to ask her to the dance. Shaking his head a bit, he bypassed that scene and made his way to the list. Scanning it quickly, he finally found his name right next to... Casandra Hall. His heart fell as he read that. Rodney was going to kill him. Ducking out of the classroom, he sped off down the hall before the firestorm could come. There was no distance he could run that would save him from his brother's wrath, but he'd at least be safe until they got home later. So long as Casandra didn't turn him down for the dance, Jonas might even survive another day.

  • // Sounds good!

Cassandra had gotten to class only a few minutes earlier than when it was supposed to start. By then almost everyone was there, but thankfully her seat was still empty. She swiftly made her way over to it, placed her bag on the ground beside the desk, and sat. She looked around then, noting who was there and who wasn't. She wasn't surprised to see that Jonas hadn't shown up yet. The rumors had, of course, gotten to Cassandra, and she assumed that the dark room was probably where Jonas was holing up at the moment. Whether or not she believed the rumors was another matter entirely, and personally she considered them to be unfounded.

For a moment, Cassandra had almost expected Jonas to not show up, considering the bell had rang and his seat was still vacant. Just as the thought crossed her mind, he appeared in the doorway, looking somewhat unkempt. The teacher addressed his untimely attendance as they all do, and then class began. Unsurprisingly, it was just as boring as it always was. She found herself being beyond relieved once it ended, and was preparing to leave the room when Mr. Grande announced that he had assigned them partners on their projects.

She sighed then. The brunette really did not want to work on a project, especially one in which she wouldn't even get to pick her partner. All she could hope for is that she wouldn't be paired with someone who would try to take advantage of her. As the people in the class began to clear out and the crowd around the list began to dissipate, Cassie decided that now would be a good time to get a look at the list. She stood, but before she could even take a step a boy came and stood in her path like a roadblock.

Cassandra looked up at the boy, a bit surprised to see that it was Rodney. She once again offered a half-hearted smile. "Hi, Rodney," she began sweetly, putting her facade back up. "Are we partners, perhaps? Or is there something else you need?"

Rodney grinned his award-winning smile as he stood before Cassandra. The guy was a stud and if he had a halfway decent personality he'd be the total package. As she asked why he'd stopped her, he laughed a little. "No, no... I mean, I don't know if we're partners, I haven't seen the list. No, what I wanted to ask was... well, Cassandra Hall, would you do the honor of escorting me to the Halloween Howler tonight? The two of us together will blow everyone else away." There was no doubt in anyone's mind that Cassie and Rodney would be a power couple if they got together and many had been placing bets since the beginning of the semester on just when exactly they'd get around to going out. "Just think about it."

    ---

The end of the day had come up faster than Jonas had anticipated and he was beginning to feel a bit antsy. He knew Rodney had seen the list because he'd received a threatening text message about the whole affair. Luckily, he'd managed to avoid the football team and his brothers and was now about to make his safe escape to the car. Once he picked them up and took them back to the house, he'd be on the way to his job interview. By the time he got back to the house, James and Rodney would be so busy getting ready for the dance they wouldn't have time to beat Jonas into a pulp. He'd be home free.

Walking across the parking lot, Jonas felt vulnerable and exposed. He'd been ganged up on out here before so as he made his way to the jeep, he was hyper-vigilant. Somewhere across the parking lot he hear whooping and hollering and felt himself relax a bit. Those stupid vultures were torturing some other poor kid so he was safe for now. With that thought in mind, he made his way across the rest of the parking lot to his car. Once he was inside he felt his muscles begin to relax again. He was almost ready to start the car and pull out when something struck his window, exploding in gooey clear and yellow gunk. Jonas jumped before realizing what had happened. Irritation welled up in his chest and before he could stop himself, he threw the door open and jumped out, walking towards the group of boys howling with laughter. A couple more eggs struck the back of the jeep, exploding their contents on the paint and tires.

"Hey! Don't you have anything better to do?" To some, Jonas was intimidating when he was mad. He was tall and lanky, but he had muscle built up from the different jobs he'd done around town, whether it be construction or landscaping like he was going to apply for that afternoon. He had been in his fair share of fights and while he knew how to take a punch, he could sure as heck throw one as well. Unfortunately, Nate, his brother's right hand wasn't intimidated and was just as buff as Jonas without lifting a finger. Smirking, he walked forward to come toe to toe with the 19 year old, jutting out his chin as he came to a stop before him.

"Anything better to do? Come on, Jonas. You know screwing with you is the highlight of my day." Some of the other guys snickered, shoving each other around like a bunch of apes. It occurred to Jonas that they were baiting him, trying to get him to throw the first punch as usual. Frankly, it wouldn't matter who started the fight. The principal wouldn't care - Jonas was involved and he was an easy target. Still, he knew better. "You neanderthals aren't worth my time," Jonas said, staring Nate down a moment longer before turning to get back in the jeep. Naturally, the football buffoons didn't let it go. Nate grabbed Jonas's shirt in his fist and shoved him up against the jeep, tugging his arm behind his back. Jonas fought furiously, but Nate had the upper hand as he pressed his face further into the back window. Leaning in, he breathed harshly into Jonas's ear, a feeling that stirred a nasty memory deep in the recesses of his brain. "You'd better watch your back, Wilde... Never know when the world's gonna shift out from under you." Letting him go, the bigger guy took a step back before sweeping Jonas's feet out from under him. He hit the ground hard, bruising his hip and his knee as he landed. Jonas covered his head, waiting for the beating he was sure to follow, but the guys simply laughed and started moving off, making catcalls towards him and laughing. Rolling onto his back, Jonas groaned a little, more frustrated than anything with his life.

After a few moments of self pity, Jonas managed to sit up. Gravel stuck to his blue sweater, making it look like it had little holes throughout it. Wiping his shirt, he sighed before struggling to his feet, using the jeep as a crutch. His hip and knee ached but he could put a little pressure on them so he knew he could walk it off. Looking around the lot, he made sure no one else had seen what had happened before limping back to the front of his car. Climbing back in, he mentally scolded himself for having been stupid and antagonizing those stupid jocks. At least it was his left leg that was bruised so he could still drive without thinking too much about the pain. Glancing at the clock, he groaned again. 4:03. Jonas was late to pick up the twins.

  • Did Cassandra want to go to the Halloween Howler with Rodney? Not particularly. But could she tell him no, either? Of course not. She'd heard the rumors about him potentially asking her to the dance before, but the girl didn't think that she would actually be faced with that decision. His personality wasn't precisely what she desired out of a partner, but he was quite attractive, and perhaps if they didn't hit it off he might give her some distance. The girl didn't even think for a moment about telling the male no, mostly because she wasn't sure what he might do if she said no.

Without a moment's hesitation, the brunette offered a response. "Sure. I can't wait." She feigned yet another smile and hoped that would be enough to keep the boy happy.

By the time Rodney had left, room had been made around the list so that Cassandra could finally get a look at it. She was pleasantly surprised to see that she had been paired with Jonas. The pairing could certainly be worse. She definitely preferred Jonas to one of the jocks in the classroom that probably would have expected her to do most of the work, and for that she was glad.

    ---

The girl left the building a bit later than usual. She had to have a conversation with one of the teachers about a missing assignment which she was able to clear up, thankfully. The walk back to her car was normal for the most part, although she was a bit perplexed by the presence of the guys who passed her. She recognized one of them as Nate, who was their de facto leader at the moment. They all said hey to her, and she greeted them in return.

Their acknowledgments were fleeting, though, and she didn't stick around to chat with them. Cassandra continued to move towards her Mercedes, but she couldn't help noticing that the Jeep beside hers was covered in what appeared to be egg yolk. She was momentarily disgusted, but the pieces of the puzzle quickly fit together in her mind: the guys she had just passed had egged Jonas's car, and there was no telling what they had done to the boy himself.

She approached the driver's side of her own car, which was parked in the spot immediately left of the male's. From her spot, she had a clear view through the window of Jonas's own car, and she immediately felt pity for the boy. From what she could tell, he was pained and visibly distressed. Concern immediately made its way onto her soft features, and she called out to the boy. "Hey, are you okay?" she would speak, unsure if Jonas could hear her from his place inside his car.

Once in his car, Jonas seethed for a moment before punching the steering wheel in frustration. After that, he leaned his head back and sighed. "Get over it, Jonas. This isn't a high enough hill to die on." With that thought in mind, he started the engine, looking for pedestrians over his shoulder before pulling out. He didn't notice Cassandra trying to get his attention and turning on the radio, he completely destroyed any chance of hearing her through the closed window. After pulling out of the spot, he put the jeep into drive and sped off towards the football parking lot where he was supposed to pick up his brothers five minutes earlier. It seemed like he had brushed her off for the second time that day when in reality, he had just missed her completely. Frankly, it was for the best. He didn't have time to stop and chat, especially if he was going to make his interview for the new landscaping job.

"You're late." Rodney's tone held no kindness as Jonas pulled up and turned the radio down. "Just get in the car." Jonas had no patience for this today. He had no doubt James and Rodney had orchestrated that little stunt in the parking lot even if they hadn't been present to watch the execution. They knew good and well why he'd been late getting here and honestly, he wasn't in the mood for their attitudes. Luckily, Rodney was in too good a mood to retaliate to Jonas's short tone. The brothers climbed into the car, James making extra sure to kick Jonas's seat as he claimed the back. Before the door was even fully shut, Jonas lurched the car forward, throwing James off balance a little and getting them out of there in no time.

Normally Jonas had rotten luck, but today, things seemed to be looking up a little. Aunt Hodge had gone out for something (usually Jonas's job) and had only left a short list of chores for him to get done before he was free for the afternoon. The first thing he did, of course, was go to his cabin/shed and drop his stuff off. While he was there, he took the time to stop and examine his busted knee. His hip ached, but it was only bruised. His knee, on the other hand was swollen and purple with tints of red and green mixed in. Cursing, he let out a long sigh before going to work on bandaging the appendage up. If he could put some pressure on it, maybe it would help... Of course ice and rest would be better for it, but he didn't have time for that. Once that was taken care of, he went back into the house and got to work on his chores.

With a set goal in mind, Jonas made quick work of his chores, getting back in the jeep and heading out before their aunt even got home. Lucky for him, she didn't care much if he ate with them or not, so the plan was to stop at McDonald's or something on the way home after the interview. For now, that was his main focus, food later. Arriving at the house at 5:20, Jonas was unsurprised at the grandeur. Letting out a low whistle, he parked his car in their driveway before making his way up to ring the doorbell, hoping he didn't look too scraggly. He'd taken the liberty of rolling his sleeves all the way down so that his tattoos wouldn't be seen. He wasn't ashamed of his ink, but some people didn't think much of it and he didn't want to make a bad first impression. Jonas was lost in thought when the door opened, causing him to jump slightly. And so it began. Little did Jonas know the girl he'd snubbed twice that day would be inside this huge house somewhere, about to change the entire story.

  • // Cassie's father's dialogue will simply be bolded. I'll play him for the time being, unless you want to do it.

Perhaps Cassandra should have been angry at Jonas for ignoring her once more. But she wasn't. Perhaps the boy hadn't heard her from inside the car over both the radio and the steady hum of his own vehicle. It was a better thought than him purposefully ignoring her again, and it was a much more comforting prospect as well. She watched the boy back out and drive away without a second thought before hopping in her own car and heading home. The girl remembered then that her father was supposed to be having interviews that afternoon for a landscaper of sorts. Great.

She wasn't quick to get home, even if she had to prepare and get ready for the dance that night. Hopefully Rodney would be okay if she was a bit late, albeit fashionably so. Although, she wasn't particularly concerned with what Rodney wanted out of her. He asked her, not the other way around. The boy would just have to be okay with whatever she had in mind.

By the time she had gotten home and pulled into the quite expansive driveway of their grandiose home, another car had already been parked. Her father's. That meant that there would be an expectation of interaction, which she dreaded. Cassie had been hoping that he wouldn't arrive until she had already gotten home. That way she would be able to hide from him, in a way. Instead, she took her sweet time getting out of the car, and when she finally headed inside, she attempted to be as quiet as possible, hoping not to attract her father's attention.

She tip-toed through the mudroom, but to her own surprise as well as detriment, her father happened to be in the foyer, which the mudroom opened up to. His gaze immediately fell upon his daughter. "Cassandra." He swiftly made his way over to the girl and embraced her. The brunette reluctantly accepted the hug, and it took her a moment before she decided to reciprocate it, which took more willpower than she was willing to admit.

"Hi, dad," she uttered eventually. She quickly broke from the embrace, not wanting the hug to last any longer than it had to. The man stepped away for a moment to get an up and down look at her. It had been probably a month since the two had last seen each other. It was apparent that Mr. Hall still loved his daughter, but his efforts came in vain because Cassandra certainly did not reciprocate. How could she love someone who left her all alone after her mother died?

"Cassandra, it's been-" the man started, but she quickly interrupted him. "Dad, I've got to get ready for the dance tonight. I don't have any time to stop and chat." The man frowned slightly, but he understood and let her by. "Thank you." From there, Cassandra quickly headed upstairs and to her room where she began to get ready.

While she was getting ready, other things were taking place downstairs. She wouldn't have noticed due to where her room was positioned in the house, but while getting ready Jonas arrived at her home. However, her father noticed, and he was the one to open the door for the teenager.

"Hello. You're Jonas Wilde, correct?" Mr. Hall would say upon opening the door. He was the curt, straight-to-business sort, and he would not waste any time in beginning the interview.

As the door swung open, Jonas straightened his posture, raising his eyes to meet the gaze of the older man that stood before him. As Mr. Hall acknowledged him, Jonas nodded politely and stuck out a hand to shake. "Yes Sir. It's nice to finally meet you." Once he was welcomed into the large home, he scanned the front room quickly before looking back at the man who'd be interviewing him. So far they'd only spoken over the phone and email but Jonas could tell he was a no-nonsense kind of guy. Before he'd left his aunt's estate, he'd put some icy-hot on his knee to hopefully help the swelling but he was still walking with a small bit of a limp. He'd done a pretty good job of hiding it so far, but it was pretty painful.

Ignoring the pain in his leg, he turned his attention back to his hopefully future boss. "Sir, if you don't mind me asking... What exactly do you have in mind for this job description? When I spoke to you before, you had mentioned landscaping and some other responsibilities but we hadn't been able to really talk about specifics." Jonas was beyond qualified for this job with all the odd jobs he'd done around town. He'd landscaped for multiple small businesses as well dabbled in some construction from time to time. The work people were usually most interested in was his work on his aunt's estate. Next to the Halls, the Hodges were nearly the oldest and wealthiest family in town. Since his uncle had gone to prison, the image had changed, but Aunt Hodge never missed a chance to show that they were better off without the old man. As it was, that was the only thing Jonas and the old woman agreed on.

Somewhere in the back of his mind, there was an itch. Jonas had a feeling he was missing something blatantly obvious standing here now. Subconsciously, he knew this was Cassandra's house. He knew she was part of this uber rich family and all that, but it had yet to occur to him that she might be here. He was more focused on just getting the job. Again, forcing his attention back to the man before him, Jonas tried to prepare himself for any question he might have. This wasn't an opportunity he was going to pass up.

  • // I should apologize for how infrequent my posts have been recently. Between school and real-life responsibilities becoming increasingly prevalent, I haven't had much time to respond. Hopefully everything will clear up by the weekend.

Mr. Hall shook Jonas's hand in return and gave him a small smile. "No, the pleasure is mine," he would say before stepping back, as if offering for Jonas to come into his home. The duo made their way through the mudroom and a grand foyer into an equally grandiose living room. It was lavishly decorated with modern furniture and several pieces of contemporary art hung from the walls of the large room. It was clearly a very expensive room, but for the Halls it was barely scratching the surface of their wealth. The room also happened to be where Mr. Hall had decided that he wanted to conduct the interview.

The older man had been thinking that perhaps their short journey to the living room would be silent, but instead Jonas had asked him a question. What was the irony in that? The interviewee asking the interviewer a question. It made the older man chuckle slightly, but he would answer irregardless. "Well, as far as landscaping goes, it's just the normal stuff. Mowing the lawn, tending to the garden, trimming the shrubs; the usual. The 'other responsibilities' that I mentioned would just be to repair anything on the off-chance that something breaks."

When they finally reached the living room, Mr. Hall took a seat on one of the couches situated on one side of a rather large coffee table and gestured to the opposite sofa with his hand, as if offering the seat to Jonas. After the boy sat down, Mr. Hall wasted no time in beginning the interview. "So, Jonas — is it alright if I call you that? — why do you want this job? Convince me that you're the best candidate." In the back of his mind, Mr. Hall knew that there had been few other applicants, and quite a large sum of them were somewhat questionable. He was hoping that Jonas would be more dependable than the others had seemed, and would come with a better work ethic, too.

While the two chatted, Cassandra remained upstairs so that she could get ready for the dance. She spent more time considering her options than actually dressing up. After many minutes of contemplation and consideration, she decided that maybe it would be best if she chose to dress fancily, but like no one in particular. That way she didn't have to embarrass herself with revealing who she was dressed up as. With a large gown, the girl could easily just say that she was dressing up as a queen and anyone would be inclined to believe her.

It took only a few minutes to actually get dressed. Cassandra had finally decided on a billowing red dress accented with black lace around the collar and the bottom. It was an elegant gown, and she was undeniably beautiful in it. And since it was red, if anyone asked, she could just tell them that she was the Queen of Hearts or something. A matching red and black mask was meant to be worn with the dress, but she wouldn't put that on until she got there.

The brunette would take a few more moments to add the finishing details on the look — makeup and jewelry, namely — before heading downstairs. The stairs opened up into the foyer, and to the side was the living room. She could the faint sound of chatting coming from that room, but she assumed that it was just the TV.

Despite her assumption, she still figured that maybe it would be best if she said goodbye to her father. After all, this might be the last time she would see him in months. There was no telling with that man.

Cassandra approached the living room, eyes trained partially on the floor. Once in the doorway, she would say, "Hey dad, I'm —" and subsequently cut herself off when she looked up and saw Jonas sitting on one of the sofas in the room. That was definitely a curious detail. Perhaps he was applying for the landscaper position? "Oh, hey, Jonas," she would stand after standing there for a moment like a deer in headlights.

Mr. Hall looked up then to see his daughter in the doorway. He found it oddly intriguing that the boy knew who Cassandra was, and from the way that Cassie spoke, it sounded like they were some kind of friend. This couldn't be farther from the truth, though, and they were both basically acquaintances. Mr. Hall did not know this, however, and his gaze would revert back to Jonas after examining his daughter for a minute. "You two know each other?" he asked, cocking his head to the side ever so slightly in an inquisitive manner.

Luckily, Jonas was more than used to being around rich people. He would never consider himself one of them but between his aunt and the boys, he had some experience around this lifestyle. After shaking the older man’s hand, he followed him into the living room. Just like the other rooms he’d seen so far, this one was just as grandiose, filled with expensive furniture and decorations, nothing like the little shack he lived in on the Hodge estate… Accepting the offer to sit, Jonas seated himself across from the man with just a little bit of resistance from his injured knee and looked at him politely as he waited for the interview to start. He nodded along as the man explained what the ‘other’ category of his responsibilities would be. Since he was a kid, Jonas had always been pretty good with his hands so fixing things and working in the yard were pretty much right up his alley. This was a position he was more than qualified for.

When Mr. Hall asked his first question, Jonas nodded. “Yes, Sir. I am a good candidate for this position because of my extensive experience in landscaping and construction. For the last three years I’ve helped renovate a lot of the business fronts around town, such as the bank front on East street and the vet clinic on Third. I also fully maintain the Hodge estate for my aunt year round. I also have a letter of recommendation from John Jay from the bank like you requested.” Digging through his bag he pulled out a crisply folded letter before handing it to the man. Jonas omitted the fact that getting that letter had been about like pulling teeth thanks to his aunt. She’d taken a big issue with him working for anyone but her, probably out of the fear that someone would pick up on what was going on behind closed doors. Getting her to even agree to let him interview for this job had been a stretch.

A multitude of emotions crossed Jonas’s mind as a familiar voice greeted him from the base of the stairs. He cursed himself for not having realized what he was walking into before and he managed to hide the split second of panic upon hearing her voice. In the back of his head he’d known this was her home… With a friendly smile, Jonas nodded to her in response. “Hi, Cassandra,” he said, his voice only slightly tighter than it had been with her father. She looked beautiful, all dressed up for the dance she’d be attending with his brother. Jonas pitied her in that respect. “Not well,” he admitted when her father questioned how they knew each other. “We’re in a few classes together and she’s a… friend of my cousin.” He doubted she’d like that little addition, but he didn’t know the nature of their relationship except that she was off-limits. Rodney had been very clear about that much. Either way, this might throw a wrench in his plan to not get killed by his brother. That is… if he told him. Mentally shaking himself, he looked back at Mr. Hall and smiled politely.

  • Mr. Hall leaned back on the pristine white couch as Jonas spoke and placed his arm onto the back of the couch. He examined Jonas's words carefully, considering all of the past experiences that the boy had had while working. An impressive résumé to be sure, especially for someone as young as Jonas was. Mr. Hall knew of all these places, and he was also aware that the Hodge estate wasn't something to be scoffed at. Definitely one of the best candidates that he had interviewed so far. In the back of his mind, though, he knew that Jonas was probably going to be the one to get the job.

"I see," he would mumble. He took even longer to consider the boy's words after Cassandra entered. He didn't miss the note of hesitation in Jonas's speech and wondered why the boy had chosen to say it like that. Perhaps he was leaving out a detail or two, or maybe he was just concealing the truth. He didn't bother to pry further though because it simply wouldn't do to turn away a potential worker just because of some doubt that might turn out to be unsubstantiated.

A moment's silence gave way to him turning once more to his daughter. "You were saying?" he inquired. "I was going to say that I'm leaving now," she returned quickly, wanting to get away from the situation. The less she had to interact with her father, the better.

Cassandra's own thoughts were a bit different though. She recoiled a bit when she heard her full name come from the boy's mouth. Normally, people she knew from school could get away with calling her Cassie, but Jonas opted for her full name. Her full name was usually reserved for teachers and her father, so it felt a bit odd to hear it come from someone else's mouth. Except for Rodney, she supposed, who had only used her entire first name as an act of formality.

"Alright," her father responded quickly. A small frown formed on his face, but Cassie did not notice because of the hurried pace with which she left. The girl was probably going to be late at this point, but at least she would be fashionably so.

After she exited, Mr. Hall turned once more back to Jonas. "Well, Jonas, I think this interview is over. I've heard all I need to." The man decided then on barely more than whim that Jonas was the ideal candidate. He stood and offered his hand for the boy to shake once more. "You've got the job. Don't disappoint me." The last sentence carried an air of hope to it rather than the poison that it often was laced with.

  • I'm gonna be a little less active over the next couple weeks because we're getting into dead week and finals here and I'm drowning. I'll try to check on every once and a while, but I definitely won't be on as much as normal! Will for sure try to get on and post on here later, but I just wanted to let you know what's up so you don't think I ditched!

  • That’s completely fine! I’m approaching finals season as well, but I’m sure it’s not as bad for me since I’m still in high school. I’m also in Tennessee at the moment, so I completely understand being short on time. Your finals are much more important than a roleplay; focus on your exams rather than this.
