This strange noblewoman regarded him with an irreverence that he had only ever seen from his sister, and he couldn't lie about the fact that that excited him and drew him into being far more reckless than he usually would. Aerion was intelligent and perceptive, but he had the recklessness and arrogance of one who had yet to be humbled by the world around him, adding his royal name, titles and a dragon to the mix was a surefire way to result in someone with natural daring and a grand ego who was used to getting what he wanted. Being challenged was refreshing, in a way, and it helped to keep him grounded. Many other young princes of the same background might throw a fit at someone insulting them and threatening to kill them, but Rion could simply laughed at the remarks as the Lannister girl followed his lead to climb up onto the dragon's neck. His father hadn't raised a petulant, immature son, he had tried to instill the virtues of humility in Aerion and had succeeded to some degree. The prince wasn't so easily offended, unless the insults thrown at him were backed with a genuine malice.
"Lady Joanna, my mother won't even hear about this, you have my word." he replied, an underlying tone of seriousness in his response, though it hardly dampened his normal playful attitude. His mother could be harsh in the interests of protecting her children, and although she wasn't cruel, he could understand Joanna's hesitance around angering the dragon queen considering who her parents were. If questioned about it, he could just say that he went for a flight himself, his mother would be far from happy but her anger wouldn't lead back to Joanna. Aerion didn't want to harm someone else with the repercussions when he had goaded them into joining him in his foolishness. But thoughts about the potential consequences could wait until the feared outcomes arose, they hadn't even left the ground yet! With a grin still plastered onto his features, he wondered how Joanna felt, being on the back of a dragon for the first time. There was a feeling of power that came with it, like you could do anything in the world. Whatever the feeling incited by sitting astride one, that was magnified by a thousand when you actually flew - seeing sights that others never would, and experiencing something that few ever had. "Are you ready to go? Make sure to hold on tight." he said, though he didn't wait for a response to his question before calling out a single Valyrian word. "Sōvegon!"
With that one word, Silverlight roared in understanding, eager to be setting off for the skies. It took a few flaps of the dragon's pale wings to get them off the ground, but this didn't worry Aerion. It only took a few seconds for them to ascend sharply out of the entrance in the arched roof of the dragonpit and further still above the city, the wind whistling past them as they climbed towards the clouds, the only sound beside being the prince's joyous laughter. Flying was an exhilarating feeling and he was proud that he could share that with someone else, someone who didn't fear him and his dragon as much as everyone else. There had to be time to appreciate the experience, he knew that as much as he wanted to push his dragon as fast as she could go and see how many tricks he could do, he should probably take this slow for the Lannister girl wasn't as much of a natural dragonrider as he was. Another Valyrian word, "gīda," and their ascent leveled off, the dragon slowed, soaring in circles high above the city, even above the towers of the Red Keep itself. The plumes of smoke from hearths streamed up towards them and the lights of a thousand candles flickered in windows. The people they had passed not long ago looked like mere dots, if they could be seen at all, illuminated by pinpricks of light from nearby lanterns. Turning back towards Joanna to see her reaction, he was stunned for a moment by how she looked - her hair whipped around in the wind, as unruly and wild as she was, looking silver-blonde in the moonlight, her blue eyes looked fathoms deep and had a spark of something untamed in them. "I think the city looks better like this." he said, finally, "You can see just how many people there are, and that it's alive even at night." then a pause, and another bright smile crossed his face. "Are you enjoying being closer to the stars than any Lannister ever has been?" he asked, his gaze moving from the young woman to the myriad of stars above them, making the sky look like a velvet blanket that the gods had spilled diamonds on. Aerion always thought they looked brighter from up here, more beautiful when you were viewing them whilst dipping around low clouds, there was something ethereal about it.
( Have you seen season 8 yet?? Because if you have, do you mind me talking about it? I have lots of Feelings about it. )
