  • ♛ Aerion Targaryen ♛ 19 ♛ Crown Prince ♛ Betrothed to Nymeria Baratheon ♛

This strange noblewoman regarded him with an irreverence that he had only ever seen from his sister, and he couldn't lie about the fact that that excited him and drew him into being far more reckless than he usually would. Aerion was intelligent and perceptive, but he had the recklessness and arrogance of one who had yet to be humbled by the world around him, adding his royal name, titles and a dragon to the mix was a surefire way to result in someone with natural daring and a grand ego who was used to getting what he wanted. Being challenged was refreshing, in a way, and it helped to keep him grounded. Many other young princes of the same background might throw a fit at someone insulting them and threatening to kill them, but Rion could simply laughed at the remarks as the Lannister girl followed his lead to climb up onto the dragon's neck. His father hadn't raised a petulant, immature son, he had tried to instill the virtues of humility in Aerion and had succeeded to some degree. The prince wasn't so easily offended, unless the insults thrown at him were backed with a genuine malice.

"Lady Joanna, my mother won't even hear about this, you have my word." he replied, an underlying tone of seriousness in his response, though it hardly dampened his normal playful attitude. His mother could be harsh in the interests of protecting her children, and although she wasn't cruel, he could understand Joanna's hesitance around angering the dragon queen considering who her parents were. If questioned about it, he could just say that he went for a flight himself, his mother would be far from happy but her anger wouldn't lead back to Joanna. Aerion didn't want to harm someone else with the repercussions when he had goaded them into joining him in his foolishness. But thoughts about the potential consequences could wait until the feared outcomes arose, they hadn't even left the ground yet! With a grin still plastered onto his features, he wondered how Joanna felt, being on the back of a dragon for the first time. There was a feeling of power that came with it, like you could do anything in the world. Whatever the feeling incited by sitting astride one, that was magnified by a thousand when you actually flew - seeing sights that others never would, and experiencing something that few ever had. "Are you ready to go? Make sure to hold on tight." he said, though he didn't wait for a response to his question before calling out a single Valyrian word. "Sōvegon!"

With that one word, Silverlight roared in understanding, eager to be setting off for the skies. It took a few flaps of the dragon's pale wings to get them off the ground, but this didn't worry Aerion. It only took a few seconds for them to ascend sharply out of the entrance in the arched roof of the dragonpit and further still above the city, the wind whistling past them as they climbed towards the clouds, the only sound beside being the prince's joyous laughter. Flying was an exhilarating feeling and he was proud that he could share that with someone else, someone who didn't fear him and his dragon as much as everyone else. There had to be time to appreciate the experience, he knew that as much as he wanted to push his dragon as fast as she could go and see how many tricks he could do, he should probably take this slow for the Lannister girl wasn't as much of a natural dragonrider as he was. Another Valyrian word, "gīda," and their ascent leveled off, the dragon slowed, soaring in circles high above the city, even above the towers of the Red Keep itself. The plumes of smoke from hearths streamed up towards them and the lights of a thousand candles flickered in windows. The people they had passed not long ago looked like mere dots, if they could be seen at all, illuminated by pinpricks of light from nearby lanterns. Turning back towards Joanna to see her reaction, he was stunned for a moment by how she looked - her hair whipped around in the wind, as unruly and wild as she was, looking silver-blonde in the moonlight, her blue eyes looked fathoms deep and had a spark of something untamed in them. "I think the city looks better like this." he said, finally, "You can see just how many people there are, and that it's alive even at night." then a pause, and another bright smile crossed his face. "Are you enjoying being closer to the stars than any Lannister ever has been?" he asked, his gaze moving from the young woman to the myriad of stars above them, making the sky look like a velvet blanket that the gods had spilled diamonds on. Aerion always thought they looked brighter from up here, more beautiful when you were viewing them whilst dipping around low clouds, there was something ethereal about it.

( Have you seen season 8 yet?? Because if you have, do you mind me talking about it? I have lots of Feelings about it. )

  • nineteen | bastard daughter of cersei & jaime lannister | allegiance to herself | single

Joanna climbed up onto the dragon's back. Something she never thought she would be able to check off of her list. She had kept a mental list since she was a list, of all the things she wanted to do before she died. She was like her father in many aspects and she wanted to do many extraordinary things before she died and impact the world in her own way. She was one of the last Lannisters after all. She wrapped her slim arms around Aeiron's waist and her cheeks pressed to his his back. She felt soft pants fall from her parted lips. She wasn't terrified like others would be. She was... ecstatic. She was going to ride a dragon and see King's Landing from the sky. She never imagined she ever see a dragon up close, much less ride one. She decided then, that maybe, the Prince wasn't so bad. Sure, he was doing all of this to impress her and get her to like him. But she also saw something else in him. She wasn't sure what it was yet but she hoped she had the patience to find out. Aeiron spoke, saying his mother would never find out about this. She sighed, feeling relief. At least a little bit. It was what she needed. She loved to be reckless but she would also protect her own life with vigor. She would not let her father's death be in vain. She would live a long and happy life. And something in her heart told her that that happy life started tonight. She looked up at the white-haired Prince from over his shoulder as she saw the sly grin spread across his features. She let out a contagious laugh, almost one that sounded like one would imagine bubbles would sound. She held tight to his waist at his words and she felt her heart thunder against her chest. A part of her felt powerful, she had to admit. Silverlight had accepted her and allowed her to ride her which she thought was very special. She had never heard of a Lannister riding a dragon and she felt beyond proud to be the first. Aeiron shouted a word in another language and at first, Joanna was confused. But then Silverlight let out a roar of excitement. She then moved and the both of them shifted on her back and Joanna let out a squeal, tightening her grip on Aerion. Silverlight took to the sky in a few flaps of her wings and Joanna felt the air leave her lungs and her heart halt in her chest. She hummed, overwhelmed with emotions as she pressed her face against Aeiron's back.

Joanna felt the wind slap against her cheeks and shake through her hair as they flew out of the Dragonpit. She panted and opened her eyes, finally pushing her small tinge of fear to the back of her mind. She inhaled sharply and her heart fluttered as she realized she was in he sky. She let out a laugh when then bubbled into a fit of laughter. She felt the adrenaline pumping through her veins and making her very skin tingle. She heard Aeiron's laughter and she couldn't help but smile ear to ear as she looked up at him over his shoulder. Joanna felt tears of joy brim her eyes and she looked down below her, seeing the Dragonpit seeming to become a distant memory. She sighed and tried to swallow the lump in her throat but all she could think of in this moment, were her parents. She hoped they could see her, see how happy she was. She laughed softly, a tear running down her cheek as Silverlight leveled out due to Aeiron's command. She felt her heart thundered against her chest and her entire head seemed to be spinning. This... was an experience she had no words for. She looked down below them and she felt the wonder fill her body, she was afraid she might burst. She brushed some of her blonde curls behind her ear before she wrapped her arms back around Aeiron's waist. She gulped thickly and watched as the buildings seemed like something she would be looking down on, like on a map. She laughed to herself as she saw people walking about but she couldn't make out features. They looked as small as ants up here. She giggled and her blue eyes shimmered with pure joy, something she hadn't felt in many years. She felt at bliss, at peace. She never thought those would be the words she'd describe about being on the back of a dragon but something about this was... freeing. Joanna looked to Aeiron as he spoke, finding that he had already been staring at her. She smiled to herself.

His words resonated with her and she smiled brighter, silently agreeing with him. She had to admit, she had thought King's Landing was beautiful in its own way. It was nothing like Essos and she would always consider Essos her home but she could find the beauty in Westeros. She smiled as she looked down at the city once more, her blonde curls dancing in the chilly night air. She shivered but it wasn't from the thinner air. She then looked to Aeiron as he spoke once more, asking if she was enjoying being closer to the stars than any Lannister had ever been. She had been so preoccupied with looking down at the city, she hadn't even thought to look up. She looked up at the raven black and eggplant purple sky and a sigh of wonder left her parted lips. She smiled ear to ear and an innocence sparkled in her eyes. The stars sparkled like the jewels she had seen in Essos, taking over the night sky. She inhaled sharply and she found the pure beauty in the world, smiling to herself. She reached upward, almost feeling as if she could touch the night's sky with her fingertips. Tears welled in her eyes and she silently hoped her parents did exist among the heavens. She could only hope to be in their arms once more and for now, she would settle with touching the stars and being that much closer to them. She retracted her hand and smiled small, a look of bittersweet happiness on her beautiful face.

  • ♛ Aerion Targaryen ♛ 19 ♛ Crown Prince ♛ Betrothed to Nymeria Baratheon ♛

Silverlight had been his constant companion since she hatched nine years ago. She wasn't as big or strong as the other Targaryen dragons, but she was agile, quicker than most thought she was. Flying on dragonback was an enchanting experience, a natural one for Aerion given that he had been doing it for years. When you were that high up or going that fast, nothing mattered, you didn't have any problems anymore, the only thing that was real was the rush of the wind. Aerion was grateful for that, that he could get a moment to run away from his responsibilities as Prince and heir to the throne, that he could forget that one day he would be King, married to a girl that he didn't even know if he would love. There were worse problems to have, he supposed, but the amount of responsibility he held wasn't to be belittled. He was glad that he could share that moment of carelessness with someone, that Joanna would know what it felt like to be powerful and weightless and without worry. It seemed like she needed it, as plagued by her family's reputation as she was.

The thought of her made him turn back to her, breaking his view from the stars above to something equally as beautiful. He wasn't surprised that she had been silent, normally a first flight on the back of a dragon would render even the most talkative people speechless, it was an experience that most could never even dream of, and that made it all the more special. He wasn't expect to see tears welling in her eyes, though, visible by the cool light of the moon. The prince almost didn't mention it, almost turned and pretended like he never saw the vulnerability in the first place because he wasn't sure how she would react if he brought it up. But something about the fact that she was alone, that she probably hadn't spoken to anyone about the pain she had been through in not having a mother and in seeing her father die, it tugged at his heartstrings. He had no idea what he would do if his parents died, as smothering as his mother could be, as brooding as his father could be, he loved them dearly all the same. "You miss your parents." he commented, though there was a pause, as if he wasn't sure where to take it next, his usual eloquence evading him. "You don't deserve what happened to you. I imagined I would hate you for who your parents were, that's probably my mother talking. But you're just-" 'enchanting' he wanted to say, or something equally sweet and heartfelt, but his emotions were wrangled before he spoke up again. "You're just like anyone else." he said, unsure if his words would help any. Something about the way she acted towards him told him she saw something similar in him - she didn't see him as a prince, as a Targaryen to be feared, she saw him as a person. That was more than anyone else outside of his family had ever seen him as.

( yes! i'm not sure if i should be angry with it or like.... accepting of it? some of the characters had decent endings to their plotlines, but the ones i'm really disappointed with are Jaime and Dany. For Jaime, I think it's just throwing all of the development he's made away, especially after the situation with Brienne progressed to the point that it did, by having him just go back to Cersei. I thought that at least he would be going back to King's Landing to get close & kill her to fulfill the valonqar prophecy but that's another point, the showrunners don't care at all about prophecy, only shocking their viewers, if he had died like that then I wouldn't be happy, but I wouldn't be as pissed off about it.

& Dany. Just.... ugggggghhhh. Why did they make her go all Mad Queen in the space of one or two episodes? Some people have said that there was foreshadowing because she's been burning people since Mirri Maz Dur, but also burning people who have wronged you, slavers whose slaves you want to free, or enemies who won't surrender and would be a threat if they continued to live is in no way the same as burning tens of thousands of innocents. I mean what happened to 'i'm not here to be queen of the ashes' in season 7????? What happened to that??? I'm just very angry about that because it's not revolutionary to make her mad, it doesn't fit with the kind person who is trying to be a good queen (who does make mistakes when ruling, but who doesn't?? she's 16 at the start of the series, which makes her 21 in s8, you can't expect her to make wise decisions. I know I'm 20 & I sure as hell don't.) that they've built her up to be & frankly it's taking a character who has gone through hell and overcome trauma and reduced her to insanity, giving the message that she was always supposed to fail just because she's a Targaryen and madness runs in her family.

I also thought that the Night King was going to be a bigger problem than he was. I was expecting Jon or Dany to kill him, fulfilling the prophecy about the prince that was promised which had been built up for literal years. But I think the writers just like the politics aspect, not the fantasy, which is why they're so happy to kill off the dragons and sideline other magic stuff like Bran's greendreams and warging (or other magic that's in the books and not the show), and why they've completely ignored the multiple prophecies that crop up in favour of surprising the viewers with 'subversive' outcomes. It's just bad writing, tbh. I'm gonna pay attention to see how they wrap it all up, but I doubt they can really save it at this point for many of the viewers.

The music is amazing though. Ramin Djawadi really killed it this time! I've been basically listening to the Night King theme on loop for the last three days lol. Also that's kind of a short ic post, sorry about that! )

  • nineteen | bastard daughter of cersei & jaime lannister | allegiance to herself | single

Joanna was lost in her own world. In this world, she was not a Lannister. She was not a bastard. She was nothing but a girl. A girl, touching the clouds and touching the stars. A girl completely at bliss. She had never felt this... peaceful. She had been on the run in Essos since she could remember. Daenerys had always sent assassins after her, feeling as if Joanna somehow was a threat to her throne. Joanna knew she would never want such a title, much less such an ugly throne. She nearly sneered at her own thoughts but a soft laugh left her lips instead. She let her soft hum drift on the air they glided through. She had one hand wrapped around Aeiron's waist. And her hand was sprawled against his chest, feeling his racing heart beneath her delicate fingers. She reached her other hand upward once more, a bright smile on her face. Her hair glowed almost white in the moonlight, making her look almost like her Targaryen enemies. Her sea-blue eyes glistened amongst the stars like diamonds and her cheeks flushed a soft pink tone. She inhaled deeply, her heart thundering against her chest. She felt the coolness of the cloud slip between her daft fingers and she let out a bubbly laugh, her face glowing with pure joy. She had never experienced something this magical and she knew she would never forget it. Even if she died the next day, she would say she lived a good life just because of this one magical experience. She didn't have to think while up on the clouds. She wasn't worried about anyone else or anything else. She was just there. Breathing, amongst the stars with a Targaryen Prince. Something she never thought she would be doing. She hummed as she ran her hand through a puffier cloud, sighing with glee as she watched the cloud disperse into the night sky. She felt... happy. She giggled, her blue eyes lit like the stars that made her glow almost like an angel. She then looked to Aeiron as he spoke, lowering her hands from the clouds delicately. She blinked at his words, wrapping her hand back around his waist. She sent him a sad smile to confirm his words. It was true, she missed her parents. More than anything. She prayed to all the Gods that she would be with them once more. One day. But not today, and not anytime soon. She had to live a good life, for them. She opened her mouth to speak on missing her parents but Aeiron spoke once more. His words shocked her and made her heart flutter. Her blue eyes widened and she looked at him, almost puzzled. Her brows knitted into a frown. She had... never heard those words. She had always been hated for who she was. She had never been told she didn't deserve it. She felt strange but... good. When he said he had imagined he would hate her for who her parents were, she couldn't help but laugh softly. She wrapped her arms more secure around his waist and rested her chin on his back, looking up at him.

He then went on to say she was like anyone else. She smiled fondly at those words. She had never expected to be treated kindly by anyone in Westeros, much less a Targaryen Prince. But here she was, riding amongst the stars with him while he told her that she didn't deserve what happened to her in her life. If she could go back in time, she never would have imagined this would be where her life would leave. But she wouldn't change it. Aeiron understood her in a way she had never had and she truly felt a beautiful friendship could blossom between the two of them. If his mother didn't find a reason to behead her or kill her by dragonfire before then. She nearly laughed to herself. She knew the Dragon Queen had a vendetta against her and she knew she would never live it down. Even if she did chose to avoid Aeiron. Joanna also knew though, she had to tred on thin ice. Aerion was engaged to a Baratheon. She couldn't give him any kind of hope that they could be anything more than friends. The last thing she wanted was to get between a couple, arranged or not. She inhaled deeply and looked back up to the starry sky, smiling to herself. "Thank you. I've never heard someone say that to me before." Joanna's voice was as smooth as silk and she looked to Aeiron with a bright smile as her chin now rested on his shoulder.

-- also, i completely agree with all of that. this season has been just a shit show tbh :(
