    background and setting

The general kingdom is placed in a valley surrounded by a gigantic mountain range. It is expansive and grassy, dotted with trees and small forests on every side, and the valley's inhabitants are even spoiled with hot springs just an hour's trip South of the village. It's a small kingdom, of only a few hundred members, so all the stables are placed fairly close together in a tight circle around the palace near the center of the village where the royal family lives on one level, and the protectors and council members on another. There is also a crystal clear river running through the center of it which originates from the top of the tallest mountain and ends at the Caelum Pool.

The Caelum Pool is a place only the queens and their subordinates have seen. It is considered a sacred place, a connection to the equines' ancestors that only those chosen by the stars are allowed to set eyes upon. The queen visits here for visions of the future, advice from the past, and in the case of a new queen, for her to be given her powers. A queen is typically replaced by her daughter, however if she has none or the council decides she is unfit, the council will then choose a new queen on its own.

The true center of the kingdom is the courtyard, a large circle of shops and open space where parties and meetings are often held. The biggest attraction is the amphitheater, a giant round construction with a wide stage where equines perform or battle.

    current setting

To the horse herd emerging from the harsh snow-capped mountains, it may seem like they've arrived in the heavens. The valley is experiencing late spring at the moment. Everywhere, flowers are blooming and baby animals skitter around; the sun is bright and warm, but not intolerably so, and the lake just north of the village is fairly busy on the warmest days.

  • She with a Soul of Fire

They had made it. They had finally made it. After a long, grueling month of trodding through snow and losing hope that there even was a place like they heard stories about, they finally made it. They even lost a couple on the way. Lucelia and Bullet. A dashing wild mare and a young and foolish colt. The journey was worth it, at least. They didn't die in vain. At least, Griffin hoped they didn't. As steely-faced as she remained, their losses weighed on her; she was, after all, the herd's self-appointed protector.

She stood among the other horses as they all looked down upon the valley in a stunned silence. The snow only just petered off a few hundred strides ago, and now they were standing on mossy outcroppings and looking down upon a field of lush green grass (her stomach growled just looking at it). A crystal blue river cut through the valley, pooling into a wide lake at the near center. And right smack in the center of the valley was a cluster of buildings. A village, more like. She looked even closer, and was surprised to see dozens of small figures mulling about. They were too big to be humans, but she couldn't exactly make out what they were. Maybe those blathering daydreamers weren't entirely wrong. Maybe there were other horses here, far from the reach of humans and living their best life. The valley existed, at least. Was it too much to hope that her search for a purpose had ended?

Quit your daydreaming, she scolded herself. We'll see what we see. Let's just get down there first. The giant mare turned her head to face Levi, and was the first to break the awestruck silence. "Well?" Her voice didn't betray her emotion, as it never did. It was gruff and impatient as always, though her eyes held a small glimmer of something that resembled hope.

    Casanova of the Sands

"I say we go down and meet these fine folk!" An posh, accented voice spoke up from the herd, and a gorgeous grey stallion stepped up to the edge of the outcropping. He raised his fine head, his mane fluttering gracefully in the wind as he looked down upon the valley. His body was thin and pelt dusty from the rough month he had just endured, but his posture was still powerful and regal. Kakhent certainly wasn't one to let someone else take the spotlight, even as tired and hungry as he was. He could feel judgmental stares at his back, the most burning of which was Griffin's. Kakhent turned his head only slightly to glance at the mare out of the corner of his eye, and picked his tail up higher in an act of playful defiance.

As he saw it, the creatures moving around at the bottom of the valley were certainly the near-godly animals he was told about, and boy was he ready to be accepted and welcomed into their world. Oh, how wonderful he would look galloping across these plains! They couldn't get there soon enough. "I don't know what you're all waiting for," he snorted quietly, and wasted no time in beginning to pick his way down the cliffside, step by careful step.

  • Ooc:Adding images soon. Also I hope this post is ok. This is how Levi would truly act, but I don’t want it to be too much. Lol

Once Casanova began to pick his way down Levi was on the move. The large stallion was much large then the other stallion he out weighed and muscled him. He bared his teeth after having nipped the over excited stallions rear as a sign to stop.”Do not be rash Casanova. We have lost some during our journey and not all of us are up to par. Think clearly for once you can see they outnumber us who’s to say they are not hostile.”he snorted. Then his tail slapped roughly showing his agitation. The wounds upon his back and sides were still bleeding though much slower then before. His gaze held Casanova’s then went towards the others who had held back.”We will all go together and once we’ve had a small rest.”he said in a tone that held no room for arguments. He then looked back to Griffin he would seek her counsel in a moment trusting the older Naren greatly.

It was like any morning the sun beamed calmly down on his home. The wind tickled his mane as it brushed a kiss along his back. Lapis stood upon a cliff looking over the hustle and bustle of the village. Everything was at its norm nothing was different or thats what he believed. His stoic gaze swept the lands gliding over it with a projective gaze. He huffed as it ended on a bunch of dots in the distance... Wait.. Jerking back he let his gaze focuse on.. What.. What is that.. The heavy chain that clung to his neck chimed in the breeze. Lapis instantly sounded the alarm. Queen we have.. Visitors.. Unknown ive never seen them before im going to investigate He sent the mental image of his words to his sister while he backed away and took long quick strides across the valley. If they happen to look they would see him galloping towards them in a effort to cut off their entrance. Lapis made it a habit to patrol his home keeping danger at bay. Once the stallion stood a few steps away his cold distant gaze shifting to one face then the other. Ya... Queen this...you.. You have to see it.. Its horses..like in the story book... Lapis didnt lie nor joke he was straightforward and unbending. He stomped his hoof to the earth and the thick chain vibrated from the impact. The earth shook with his intentions clear. He demanded attention without saying thats what he wanted. You mare whats your business here.. His voice was low and echoed off the breeze. He confronted her with a stern gaze that held no soft spot for the weak.

  • Queen of the Valley

Kismet was rested in the throne room, laying among the pillows and padded rug as she often did. She was having a wonderful chat with one of her helpers, an earth bender mare who did her mane and tail on the regular. The queen was so unprepared and startled by the tone of her brother's call that she snorted and flinched her head, poking herself right in the eye with a blunt braiding needle. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" Conversation stopped abruptly, and the equine controlling the needles looked horrified. The needles pulled away from Kismet quickly. "My queen, I'm sorry, did I pull something?"

"No, Sitka, I'm alright. Just a message from my brother is all." The other mare nodded, though still looked worried. The braiding needles resumed, slowly and carefully. Horses? Kismet responded to Lapis. Have you been rolling in sugarcane? Even before she said it, she doubted herself. Lapis wasn't that kind of stallion. He wouldn't play pranks on her, nor lie about something that could be a threat. Still, there was always a chance he just wasn't seeing it right. How would you know they're horses, anyway? They could just be equines that don't want to use their powers. No one has ever been beyond the mountains, there could be more of us out there.

Horses... in the valley. Absolutely impossible. They've never shown up before, they certainly won't now. A memory sparked in the back of her mind; the stories her father read to her about the horses. Crude beasts that let two-legged creatures control them. She always loved those stories when she was younger, but she was queen now. She couldn't believe in those nonsense fairy tales anymore. Still, Lapis' wariness worried her. If he really was serious, either something was wrong with him or... the stories were true. Be careful. Keep them away from the town for now, and learn as much about them as you can. Let NO civilian approach them.

In a moment of quick thinking, she opened a connection with one of her most trusted protectors. Aragorn, go find Lapis. He's found some strangers and I feel something is off. I demand you keep everything you see there a secret, and report back to me before you do anything. Kismet closed the connection and relaxed back into the pillows with a sigh, letting her mind wander as her mane was gently pulled and twisted into a lovely braid. Only the sounds of the needles clicking and the birds outside the windows could be heard. The mare could feel her helper's eyes on her, but the other didn't ask any questions despite being able to sense her worry. "He'll be fine," the equine said with a smile, referring to Lapis. He's a sensible young lad."

That's not what I worry about, Kismet thought to herself. The other equines ignorance made her worry about these strangers even more. It was only a matter of seasons that she was appointed queen, and already it seemed there was a major issue on the rise. Wolves and storms were easy foes, but a band of unknown, mythical beings? How on earth was she supposed to protect her subjects from that?

    Casanova of the Sands

*also PS his name is Kakhen not Casanova lol sorry that's a little confusing*

At the nip to his rear, Kakhen gasped and flicked his tail, turning to pout at Levi. His pelt, his beautiful pelt could have been damaged! "Well sitting in the woods like a bunch of mangy raccoons isn't going to look much better," he argues, though falls silent after the leader's second retort. "Honestly," the Arabian huffed under his breath, though a glance at the giant stallions weeping wounds made him feel a pang of regret. His eyes scanned the herd, and he noticed the tired look in all of their faces. Levi was right, no one was at their best at the moment, not even Kakhen. He supposed it wouldn't hurt to take a few and get some rest before meeting the equines.

With a bit of hesitation, he bowed his head to Levi slightly. While he wasn't a part of the herd for more than a day before they departed for the mountains, the other more familiar horses respected him well enough and it was Kakhen's decision to follow him in the first place. He figured it had taken a lot of patience and perseverance to get almost all of them over the mountain anyway, and he could respect him for that.

She with a Soul of Fire

Suddenly, Griffin snorted a loud and low warning. Heads turned to see what it was about, and horses all around tensed up as a strange silver dapple galloped up to them, scaling the rocky terrain like it was nothing. He shopped short just a few paces from where Kakhen stood, and looked Griffin right in the eye. He had a strange metal chain wrapping up his entire neck, much different from any kind of tack a horse would wear and even the decorations Kakhen refused to leave behind. Whoever he was, he meant business, and Griffin meant to protect her damn herd.

The stocky mare stared right back, gaze unwavering. Despite her exhaustion and hunger, and the ice still melting off her whiskers, her stance radiated power and assurance. "I might ask you the same thing," she said curtly, her fiery eyes boring into his own. It was clear she wasn't about to bow to the stallion and apologize for the intrusion, but she also knew it would be unwise to be too harsh and risk annoying Levi.

At her question he simply didnt respond if they were one of them they would have announced by telepathy seeing as those animals looked beyond saving. Your probably right.. They just dont feel right.. They feel weak and speak out and have wounded.. This mare looks like the leader.. Though ill not play friendly.. His statements was blunt and very rough but he had that habit of putting logic and myths together he believed his mom with every story. The male felt the earth seeking out any other bender like himself. They should respond to his vibration maybe even flinch. Till then he looked over the herd taking a step foward. Narrowing his gaze on the mare that didnt know her place. You come to my home asking questions that make no since.. He snorted stepping forward once again his chain jingled and vibrated with his ever growing rage. You and a weak group of tag alongs will leave by force or answer my question.. Very simple.. Lapis couldnt help but chuckle inwardly at the confidence this mare gave. But he didnt allow it to express on his features. His tail flicked a bit waiting for something. They smell like frost.. And something very unnatural.. Wounds and sick the look of hunger.. They look like hell Queen..

  • Counselor of The Moon

Amelia was the ambassador of the queen and took her job very seriously she always had a calm aura to her and she remained collected when things seemed to be falling apart. She did have a problem of being a bit too harsh but she was working on being a bit more gentle when it came to giving advice. The mare was currently making her way to visit the queen and update her on how the people were doing. As she stood in front of the door to the queens room she made sure looked presentable Hera her familiar rested on her back. Once she deemed herself ready she opened a connection with her queen. Your majesty I'm here to speak with you ,I can leave if is not a good time. She hoped not to have come off as rude or forceful but their had been a nagging feeling in heart e something was wrong. She was simply worried this wouldn't be a task she could help the queen with ,and she knew the protectors would always be around to ensure their safety.

Aragorn being one of the protectors of the kingdom was familiar with danger and laying his life down whenever his queen asked him. That morning when he arose to greet the morning sun the whispers of the wind told him something was different about this day and he wasn't sure why. He choose to momentarily push this fear aside and put his casul armor one to begin his patrol he had seen the youngest duke out hat mornig since the stallion like to patrol the kingdom along side the protectors. He was close to finishing his rounds when his queen opened a connection with him and requested he go investigate Lapis and the strangers he add found. Yes of course my queen. With that being said the connection between the two and Aragorn headed off in the direction he had seen Lapis head last. When he arrived he could see the young duke talking with a large mare he could also see a herd gathered around as well. He used his powers of earth to stay hidden from their sight as he watched.

Sunlight fluttered throw the window, soft white curtains fluttered as the gentle breeze blew in. Nova inhaled deeply, then sighed softly as she shook her forelock from her face. "It's getting long again Ziva, Looks like I'll need another trimming soon." Her voice was just barely above the whisper as if she didn't want to break the enchanting few moments of early morning. Behind her, she could hear her faithful hand maiden, fussing about the room. "My lady, you look beautiful with a long flowing mane. I think you should let it grow out." There was a soft chuckle in her teasing voice. "I'll can take care of it now if you wish.." The snow white mare moved calmly to Nova's side, giving her a soft nudge. "You must miss it..." She whispered lightly,"...to be concerned about how you mane is growing.." Warm brown eyes gazed into Nova's as they looked at each other. "Yes and no, Ziva...but not today. I think just the feather and a walk out into the village...let's just enjoy the day, shall we?" The spotted mare moved away from the wind stepping lightly and gracefully as she had for so long. Retired...it's gonna take some getting used to...but my daughter is doing just fine. She thought with a loving smile. With a nod she laid down to allow Ziva to groom her hair, while she closed her eyes and relaxed under the care of her loyal Ziva. As the maiden worked on Nova's mane a small yellow and black bird flew in singing his merry song and lighted on Ziva's head between her ears. Nova's ears perked at him. "Good morning to you Aries.." She chuckled at Ziva's expression. "Oh, don't fuss at him, I enjoy his music." Resisting the eurge to shake him off her head, Ziva went back to work while Aries continued to sing to them.

  • Levi had looked Kakhen over again glad he had agreed and settled down in the end. Then he heard a strong voice and a stallion stamp his good for attention. He looked over eyes wary and holding nothing else within them. He moved over closer to the fiery older mare in case anything happened. He also gave a dip of his head to her as a thanks for confronting this random stallion.”I believe your questions should be directed at me I’m the Leader of this group. Though we are injured I don’t take threats lightly.”he said calmly yet his voice held a note of he would fight this stallion if necessary. He was much larger then Lapis yet he condo detect something radiating off this stallion. His ears flicked and he looked the stallion over once more.”We have no reason to fight you we didn’t even know you were over here. We are just seeking a safe place.”he said firmly. He wouldn't mention yet about how some of them were searching for horses from stories that had powers. His tail flicked slightly annoyed but he stood firmly ready to protect his group if needed.

Lapis took in the mare a little while longer waiting to see if she would respond to the question. The stallion approach didnt go on deaf ears he listen to his statement feeling annoyed with thw round about. The earth didnt answer his will but it did seek out Aragorn whom protected the valley along side him. He made no move at showing he knew he hid perfectly with the forest back drop. Ignoring the stallion he stepped back taking a look at the herd searching gazes for any sign of traitors or maybe a trick but still found hunger and wounded. Blinking a bit to calm his nerves he snorted and took a deep breath. You should take my threat and think it over.. The bigger fall harder stallion.. Lapis gaze flicked to the stallion. Holding it with his own protective stance. Aragorn.. I dont feel as if he is lying.. But.. Lifting his head he narrowed his gaze searching behind them. Well this valley belongs to Queen Kismet.. I am Lapis one of the many protectors who will lay down their lives for this valley.. He let that hang as he purposefully moved in his direction stoping a nip away. Aragorn.. They say they are seeking a safe haven.. But... From what.. If someone or something is after you then... They threaten here as well.. Could you tell me what has happen to your wounded... If you'd like we can step over here to a fresh patch of green and talk about whys and whos... He gestured away from the valley were their homes lay and more towards Aragorn. Mentally he knocked at his sister mind wanting to relay the message. He still held a rough cold and uncaring note to his tone.. The chains swung with the breeze thick and bruised like they have seen many battles. Ill see if i can find a healer in the mean time.. I meant to come off as a threat because your strangers on my queens lands but you speak as if you mean no harm.. And have the need to protect as much as i.. Ill respect that much about your mare and yourself.. He said finally after a long pause studying them. They have young.. Aragorn.. And seem badly wounded.. I cant get a read from their abilities.. He switched to his sisters help and barked into the telepathic connection. Tell my sister to answer me..
