When Grace had said she was wanting to lose weight, he gave her a puzzled expression. Sure, her cheeks were a bit puffier and she had a slight bump to her stomach, but he thought she was beautiful the way she was. Though if she wanted to lose weight then he would support her, as long as it was in a healthy way.

Then she called the noisy teenagers on the other side of the diner "meatheads" and he decided he loved her even more.

"Peanut butter." He answered with a toothy grin. He used to have buck teeth and would be bullied for it, but then he got braces and it fixed them. Lucky for him, they took the braces off before high school started. He didn't want to start off school like that.

A shrill bell sounded, signaling the entrance of another person. Eric Howe strutted into the diner like he owned the place. He was a senior on the basketball team and was pretty popular with the ladies. He was one of those hyper-earnest over-achievers who couldn't understand why anyone would disagree with him about anything ever. Or so he had been told by his friends. They were his main source of basic information.

Eric walked over to Eddie's table and handed them a highlighter yellow paper each. They talked for a bit before he made his way toward the two of them. He had a pep in his step as he approached their booth.

Booker looked over the flyer and noticed it was for the schoolwide formal dance where the girls invited the boys. He had forgotten about it until now.

"So we went with a kind of space theme. Like, not science fiction-y, but more astronomy, all planets and stars and stuff." Eric said as he held up one of the flyers and pointed at it. "We're gonna cover all the pillars and the walls in black felt and use christmas lights for stars. It will be super cool."

Eric was smiling pretty proudly which made him think he had brought the idea to the student council himself. So Booker smiled up at him encouragingly.

    "This is such a joke."

The words caused everyone to turn and look at Eddie. He was holding a flyer in his hands and Booker could smell the weed from where he sat. He wondered if just his friends were high or if he was too. Eddie slouched in the booth, looking uncharacteristically morose.

"What are you talking about, Eddie?" Eric was staring hard at him with his lips in a thin line.

"I mean, I'm pretty sure there are better things to care about other than just dances and football. I'd rather do something that actually matters in this world."

Eric was stomping toward Eddie and getting right up in his face. He was large and athletic and could probably beat the shit out of him.

"Like what?" He couldn't hide the frustration in his voice.

Eddie took a bite out of his slice of pizza and chewed loudly before speaking. "I don't know. Its just so messed up. Even at school, we have all these kids who are probably going to drop out at some point or at least not gonna go to college. Can't the student council do something about that instead?"

There was a long silence. Mavis was grinning from ear to ear and leaning more into the troublemaker.

"Totally, Eddie." She said before kissing his cheek.

Eric took a deep breath, but he didn't seem angry anymore. If anything, he seemed to agree with Eddie. "I will bring it to the council's attention on Wednesday."

With that, he spun around and left the diner. The bell chimed again. The waitress walked up to the pair and asked if they were ready to order.

    "The, uh, burger, please."

*:・゚✦ Grace couldn't help but smile ear to ear when she heard his response to her question. Peanut butter? That was a bit unexpected. She had expected the generic, vanilla or even strawberry or chocolate. But Peanut Butter? The thought made her realize that Booker would never chose a generic flavor because he wasn't like anyone else she had met. He was different, he was unique. Which Grace liked. She had dealt with enough guys who just acted a certain way to get in her pants. Eddie had been the only one who had succeeded and Grace grimaced at her mistake every day. She opened her mouth, prepared to say something snarky to her date but the bell to the diner rang. Eric Howe walked into the diner and Grace nearly snickered at the sight. He was one of the more people in school and she only knew about this because Savvy never seemed to shut up about him. He was cute, she had been right. But Grace felt like he was too... cocky for her taste. She nearly snorted at her thoughts. Cocky? Eddie was the epitome of cocky and here he was, the father of her unborn child. She blinked and turned her head to the side, seeing that he was passing out flyers for a dance. The flyers were a bright yellow which slightly hurt her eyes. She grimaced slightly and she inhaled deeply. Eric approached them and she turned her head to the senior, her hair swinging over her shoulder. Grace took one of the flyers and from Eric with a warm smile, looking over it. She then glanced up at Eric explained it all and she saw that he seemed really proud of it. She smiled at him and set the flyer to the side. "That sounds beautiful, Eric." Grace commented and then her happiness disappeared when she heard Eddie speak up about his opinion. Grace rolled her eyes and lifted herself to look over her booth. She rested her arm on the top of the booth and there was a fire in her electric gaze as she looked over to Eddie's table.

Her eyes narrowed as she looked at the bad boy and she watched the interaction between him and Eric and after his little speech about the students who might not go to college or would even drop out, she scoffed audibly and eyes turned to her. "Must you piss on something that someone is obviously proud of? And since when do you care about students like that, Eddie? Or did you only start caring when you realized that you were grouped in with those students?" Grace said bitterly, a venom in her words. The diner ruptured with 'ohh's and laughter. Grace laughed bitterly at Eddie and shook her head. She looked up at Eric as he walked out of the diner, giving her a high five as he left with a smile. She snickered and narrowed her eyes at Eddie and Mavis, almost as if she was daring them. She huffed and sat back down in her booth, facing Booker once more. She smiled at his shocked expression and looked up at the waitress as she approached. "I'll have the garden burger, without mustard." Grace spoke confidently and took a sip of her water. She handed her menu to Hannah and then crossed one leg over the other under the table. The garden burger was a smaller burger with more lean patties, not as much fat. There was fewer calories and it came with a side of salad instead of fries. She hummed softly, looking over to Booker. Her electric gaze sparkled and she gave him a soft smile.

Booker had not expected for Grace to speak up like that. It wasn't that he thought she was shy, exactly, because he knew she wasn't. But no girl had ever spoke up against a guy like Eddie.

He was the kind of guy that girls' parents wished their daughters would date. He was every parent's first draft pick, really. Yeah, he was a player, but he was many other things too. He used to be an athlete, but had since quit, yet he still had an athletic body. He was probably going to go to some nice university with his good grades, if he even decided to bother with it. He was tall, attractive, and could easily play the part of a gentleman. This was why Booker had seen him as competition. He figured that Grace's parents would have been pleased as punch if she brought home a guy like him. But after watching their interaction, he decided that they weren't a fit for each other.

Personally, Booker thought that Eddie was a little bit stupid, despite his good grades. Not direly stupid. Not pushing-on-the-pull-door stupid or 2 + 2 = 5 stupid. Just not quick to get the joke, not sharp, not cultured. Not only that, but he could see the guy throwing away his whole future to be a drug dealer or something. And he knew that, for all of his Abercrombie & Fitch looks, Grace would want nothing to do with him. They just didn't share the same spark as she did with him, her date, the one she came there with.

This made Booker smile brightly and his chest swell with pride. He knew that his memorization of classic literature and poetry would pay off eventually. Now he had the perfect girl who could appreciate it. She was the type to not fit into the mold and he thought that was sorta punk. She was pretty cool, in his opinion.

After the waitress took their menus, Booker smiled at Grace with his eyes sparkling with pride. Then he glanced back toward Eddie who was slumped further down into his booth. He looked genuinely hurt by her response, not angry like Booker thought he would. Mavis was glaring daggers at Grace, only pausing to kiss Eddie's cheek - leaving a lipstick stain.

"That was really badass." Booker chuckled as he leaned over the table to speak to her. He knew she had some issues with hearing and he wanted to make sure she could hear him fully. He was just trying to be considerate.

The two of them chatted about random stuff until their burgers came. Booker felt extremely unhealthy just by looking at her garden burger. Still, he took a huge bite into the greasy burger and decided that he didn't care - it just tasted too good. They mostly stayed quiet while they enjoyed their food and eventually Booker forgot that Eddie and his gang were even there at all.

After all was said and done, the waitress came back around and asked if they wanted anything else. Booker ordered his peanut butter milkshake and glanced toward Grace to see what she wanted.

"Be careful, Grace. Don't want to eat too much sugar. You're looking a little pudgy there."

Booker swiveled his head to look at Eddie and his gang. They were walking toward the door to leave.

"Shut your mouth, Eddie." Booker said through gritted teeth - his face red and splotchy from anger. He was not only pissed that Eddie was making fun of Grace, but that he was ruining their first ever date.

Eddie and the others just laughed as they walked out the door - the bell chiming as they did so.

Booker was quick to place his hand on Grace's and he gazed deeply into her eyes. "Forget about them. They're assholes."

*:・゚✦ Grace looked to Booker as he stared at her in shock. She giggled softly, shaking her head. She hadn't exactly expected to snap at Eddie like that but she held alot of anger for him. He had slept with her and made her think she was special before he abandoned her the next day for Mavis. And now she was pregnant with her child. She felt she had every right to be angry. She hadn't asked for this pregnancy. But she had had sex and she had to deal with those consequences. She already loved the child growing inside of her so she wasn't worried about that. She was mainly concerned for her child. She did not want Eddie around her baby if he was going to continue to be as reckless as he had been for so many years. He treated her with no respect, or anyone for that matter. She had even told him that she was pregnant with his child but she almost guaranteed that Eddie still wouldn't respect her. That was just who he was. And she wouldn't allow a man like that around her child, even if he was the father. She knew he would most likely deny the baby and go about living his life. And she would raise his baby, on her own. Which she should have guessed such a thing would happen since Eddie was the father. But as she looked to Booker, she realized there was good in her future. Her child would be a big part of her happiness but with Booker by her side, she could see herself even more happy. She could see herself falling for him. He was very kind and understanding. Which was something she was not used to, not in this town. But she had him. And he had her. She felt, in that moment, that that was all she needed. Her electric gaze looked to Booker when he mentioned that what she had done was bad ass. A bright smile curled onto her lips and she laughed softly, seeing the pride for her in his eyes. He was glad she had stood up to Eddie. Which was not something she expected but she gladly welcomed it. She imagined Booker would be even more annoyed by Eddie's presence when he found out the truth.

Grace giggled and talked with Booker, just getting to know one another as they waited for their food. She sipped on her drink here and there, glad it was quenching her nausea. She brushed her loose hair behind her eyes and a soft blush rose to her cheeks. She was on her first date and she genuinely was having fun. She may think it was too forward, but she could see a future with Booker. She could see the two of them having a home on some land. Their children rushing to him when he got home from work and she would be in paint covered overalls, making dinner. She would kiss him and they'd have a loud and happy family dinner with their children. And all the while, she'd be gazing at Booker from the end of the table and looking at him with all the love her body could hold. Her heart fluttered at this thought and a soft gasp left her lips. She felt her hand rest against her small baby bump and she nearly smiled. She truly saw a future with Booker. And she wished for it to come true. When their food arrived, Grace thanked the waitress and began to eat her food. She first ate her burger, eating it delicately and not taking too fast of bites. She usually didn't care what she looked like when she was eating but all day, she had been nauseous. She didn't want to risk another trip to the bathroom. She finished her burger with a soft sigh before moving onto her salad. She picked out the onions from her salad and set them to the side, on a napkin. She ate her salad over a few minutes and finished her water. The waitress got her another glass and her electric gaze turned to Booker. She smiled softly at him as she watched him eat. She found him to be messy and clumsy and goofy and nervous but he was beautiful in her eyes. He was her Book, her future boyfriend. She smiled at the thought.

Grace looked up to the waitress as she asked about if they wanted anything else. The young beauty smiled at Booker as he ordered his milkshake and she was about to order when a voice sliced through her thoughts. Eddie. She frowned deeply at his words and just lowered her head. She felt her heart sink to her feet and she gripped her slightly swollen stomach. She knew she had gained a few pounds and this bothered her. She wanted to remain perfectly healthy for her baby and Eddie's words didn't help her insecurities. She cursed herself mentally for ever falling for him. Once he left, tears pooled in her eyes. She looked up with a shaky breath and thanked the waitress before she walked off with a worried look on her features. Grace gulped thickly and looked to Booker as he grabbed her hand that wasn't holding her stomach. The tears were clear in her electric eyes. Even though she was mad at Eddie, a part of her still cared for him. And he knew she was insecure about her body. She had opened up to him about it during camp. But yet, he had used it against her. She shook her head and gently pulled her hand from Booker's, brushing the hair from her face. "No, he's right. I need to lose weight anyways." Grace murmured, almost bitterly as she lowered her head.

Booker officially hated Eddie and he wanted nothing more than to punch his smug face. But they were already driving off in Mavis' flashy red car. Still, their absence did nothing to quell the anger that was bubbling up inside of him. He wasn't usually a violent person, and was more the type to make peace with an enemy. But after Eddie started acting like he cared about world hunger and other like-minded subjects, then insulting his date, Booker could have sworn he was seeing red. His hand, which was resting on Grace's, was shaking from it.

But as he saw the tears pool in Grace's eyes as she bowed her head, the anger slowly subsided and was replaced with sorrow. Eddie had hurt her feelings and now he needed to fix that.

"No, you don't. You're perfect the way you are." His hand still rested on the table after she had pulled it away and the voice he used was a comforting one, or at least he hoped. He had never been the best at lifting others' spirits.

Grace didn't respond, didn't even look in his direction, so he scooted down his booth and stood. He then made his way over to her side and scooted in next to her. His hand reached forward to tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear as he said, "Hey, listen to me. Don't listen to that guy. He's a loser. You're beautiful."

    Then, quieter, "You're beautiful, Grace."

It was then that the waitress brought his milkshake, but didn't leave right after. Instead, she clucked her tongue and shook her head at the booth Eddie and his hooligans were once sitting at.

"Guys like that need some sense knocked into them. He had no right to say that to you, honey. You're too pretty for him." She smiled warmly down at Grace before setting down the check. Then she sauntered away - leaving Booker smiling after her. She was such a nice lady for doing that and he would have to leave her a big tip.

"She's right." Booker said quietly, leaning closer to her. He loved this girl and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. He never wanted anyone to hurt her ever again.

Noticing that the waitress, Hannah, had set two straws down, he unwrapped both and placed them into the milkshake. He then slid the milkshake between them, closer to her. He took a sip and hummed happily to himself. He loved peanut butter, it was one of his favorites.

"Here, have some." Then he sort of sang, "Its really good."

He hoped that would get a laugh from her.

*:・゚✦ Grace sniffled as a few of the tears that pooled her eyes ran down her cheeks. She hated that she had even opened up to Eddie like she had. She had told him all of her insecurities, thinking the two of them truly had a future together. She didn't feel skinny enough. She felt like she constantly had to watch what she ate and when she ate but this wasn't the truth. She truly had very high metabolism and was naturally a skinny girl but the sight of her curves made her feel at least fifty pounds heavier. Which wasn't true at all. It was just all the bullying over the years and how everyone seemed to remark on her full cheeks. She held her hand on her stomach, her thumb gently caressing the small bump. She wished she could give her child a better life. One without a father that would never be there or with an older mother who knew what she was doing. But Grace knew she didn't have the strength to give her child up for adoption, that was never an option. Even if her Moms didn't accept her, which she highly doubted, she would still chose to keep her child. And she knew gaining a few pounds was a guarantee when a girl was pregnant. But that didn't make it easier on her self confidence. At Booker's words, she blinked slowly. She didn't say anything or even really respond. She didn't believe his words. She found herself appalling. She kept her head low as a few more tears danced down her cheeks and she sniffled. She felt all of the memories she had with Eddie being replaced with anger from Eddie's words. He had chosen Mavis but he still thought it would be okay to insult the mother of his child? She had every right to be angry at him. He had chosen another girl. And gotten Grace pregnant in the process. But that didn't mean he had any right to return the anger. She sniffled and sighed slowly, her heart sinking to her feet.

The young mother glanced to the side and slowly lifted her head when Booker moved to slide into the booth beside her. She sniffled and she looked up at him, not realizing until now how the height difference impacted them. She nearly giggled at the thought. Her heart weighted down her chest but then fluttered when Booked reached forward. He brushed a piece of her loose hair behind her ear and her eyes met his, her own electric gaze sparkling despite the tears. He had called her beautiful and her breath hitched in her throat with a soft gasp. She looked deeply into his eyes, almost seeming to search into his soul to see if he was telling the truth. Eddie had said the same thing to her but she knew how that had turned out last time. She exhaled shakily, her heart racing as he spoke quieter. He called her beautiful once more and her bottom lip trembled. And then the waitress dropped off Booker's milkshake and she sniffled, looking away as she pushed herself to sit up more. Her puffy eyes looked up to the waitress as she spoke and she sighed softly, smiling small at the woman. She hadn't expected her to defend her in such a way but Grace was grateful for it. Her hand gently rested on her stomach and she smiled softly. Hannah truly was a beautiful name for a daughter. Booker said she was eight and the teenage mother felt a small giggle leave her lips. She felt a weight lifted off of her chest and Booker's soft words genuinely made her feel better. And she felt as if he was telling the truth, and that was a nice change from Eddie. She watched him unravel both straws from their papers and put them in the milkshake. Grace playfully quirked her brow at her date and watched as he slid the milkshake between the two of them. She sat up in the booth, moving to sit on her knees. She watched him take a sip and his reaction caused her to laugh, the sound was one of the laughs that you couldn't help but smile or laugh along with. She grabbed the cherry at the top of the whipped cream and licked the whip cream off of the bottom before she popped the cherry into her mouth, sighing softly as she bit into the sweet cheery. She smiled with her mouth closed at Booker as she ate the fruit, her mood already seeming to be boosted.

The limo dropped them back off in front of the school right before seven, right when the party was about to start. Booker got out and held the door open for Grace, shutting it behind her. The driver rolled the window down, and looked up patiently at him.

"I'll be back in a couple hours." He said, and Booker nodded.

They began to walk toward the school. It was raining, but the kind of rain where the droplets were so light that they floated around like snowflakes in a blizzard, without a discernible slant. He kind of wanted to kiss her in the light rain, because it was always romantic in the movies, but he wasn't sure if he should kiss her just yet. He wanted it to be extra special, since it would be both their first kiss.

Inside the school gym, Booker's sweater was now covered in small droplets, and his hair was a bit frizzy from the humidity. Majority of the high school was already there, and waiting for their victorious football team to enter. It had been a good game, and a short one too. Booker couldn't keep up very well, so Grace had helped him follow along. They also got some Berry Razzmatazz or something like that from the Jamba Juice stand.

They weren't there for very long when the football team rushed into the gym and everyone began to cheer. Especially the cheerleaders, who were chanting something over the uproar and dancing with their pom-poms.

Erik Raymond was the football captain, and he was the local pastor's son, so he was just the golden boy in town. Rose Porter cheer captain, and she was adored by everyone in town, with her father being the town doctor. And since they were dating, they were the ultimate power couple. Totally, undeniably untouchable.

As the football team members streamed into the gym, Rose screamed happily and ran into Erik's arms. She then kissed his cheek, an innocent gesture. Everyone knew that the two had pledged to stay virgins until marriage, which Booker thought was sort of silly, but to each their own.

Booker sort of watched them for a moment, as the music started up and they went off to dance. Rose was the kind of bland and curveless beauty advertised on the cover of just about every magazine in the country. He used to have a huge crush on her, like every other guy, but now he realized her appearance paled in comparison to Grace.

There were also rumors going around that Erik had cheated on Rose, but Booker never put much stock in gossip. People were always trying to bring down folks on top. Then again, he had spotted Erik and Mavis whispering in the shadows during lunch before.

"That was such a fun game, wasn't it?" Booker couldn't help but laugh to himself, smiling from ear to ear.

They were just sort of standing there, so Booker glanced away shyly, and reached his hand down toward hers. After a moment, he inched close enough to intertwine their fingers. A slight blush rose to his cheeks.

Then he noticed everyone in line for food. He was a growing young man, and so he was always hungry.

Tugging on her hand, he led her toward the buffet. There, he grabbed a plate and offered her one. Then he grabbed a sloppy joe, his stomach rumbling. It wasn't a good ol' burger, but it was still delicious.

Once they had gotten their food, Booker headed for the back, where they could have a bit more privacy. Once they were alone again, he licked at his lips, which was a nervous habit of his.

"Thanks for coming out with me tonight. So far, I'd call this a pretty good first date." He laughed nervously, starting to feel a bit embarrassed.

Grace was just so good looking, and so smart, and musically talented, and funny, too. He suddenly lost his appetite to nerves.

    GRACE LYNN MARYWEATHER

Cello Player Crushing on Booker/Pregnant by Eddie Fifteen

They finished their dinner at the quaint diner and she actually had cheered up with his goofy words. They talked about random things. She had learned a small bit about his family, specifically about his father. She knew her father had always been super rich in the small Southern town but she had never known why. She had silently admired his father for making something of himself while everyone else had seemed to fall in a line set for them in this suburbia. She knew she would never allow herself to conform to such customs. She wanted to travel the world, play for people all over the world. Learn different languages and different cultures. She wanted to swim in the bluest waters and climb the highest mountains. She wanted the world, she always had. She could never be happy staying in one town for the rest of her life, especially one as judgmental as this one. Her Moms still got death threats to this day and so did she and Greggie. And she was constantly discriminated against for being partially deaf so she knew being a teenage mother would only add to their hate and prejudice. But did she care? Of course not. They were opinions of people who wouldn't matter once she graduated and went to Julliard. She had plans for her future, which now included the life growing inside of her that she already loved more than her own life. This baby was everything to her and she would give this child more than they could ever dream of. She would make sure of it. After finishing the milkshake and talking, the two of them left the diner and left in the limo that belonged to his father. They giggled and talked as they made their way to the school, once more talking about pointless things. She found Booker surprising. She had thought he was just another shy nerd when she had seen him in the halls but now, she saw so much more. She smiled warmly at him as they rode, making goofy faces when he made a silly comment. They seemed to be completely infatuated with one another and it was clear to see. They arrived at the school within a little over twenty minutes and with the held of Booker, she climbed out of the limo. She hummed softly and straightened out the skirt of her dress, adjusting her hair after. She smiled fondly to Booker as he came to stand beside her once speaking to the driver. She looked up at the dark sky as she felt a raindrop fall on her cheek. She smiled softly, more to herself than outwardly. She looked to the school, seeing the florescent lights leading the way to the gym entryway on top of the stairs. She looked to Booker and in silence, they approached the entrance.

Grace climbed the steps with surprising ease. Her wedges had seemed to give her no problems and she looked as if she had stepped out of summer itself. She sighed softly as they came inside the gym, giggling as she brushed down her now slightly frizzy hair. She looked to Booker as he fidgeted with his hair and she looked at him fondly, almost as if she was unaware of the way she looked to him. They walked inside the gym and Grace blushed softly as she felt a few surprised eyes fall on her. She ducked her head and pursed her lips, moving off to the side with Booker as the entire school waited for the football team to arrive. Then they came running in, loud as thunder and just as glorious. She thought back fondly to the football game and she smiled small in the dim lights. She liked sports, despite her looks. She wasn't super crazy about them as some people were but she was a fan. She especially liked hockey. She wasn't sure why. But a part of her had found it adorable that she had to explain the game to Booker as time went on. He was so unlike the boys she had encountered and a big part of her liked that. She had a very good feeling that this date would be something like a dream. She smiled warmly, biting her bottom lip as she thought dreamily of how she'd be after the date. She'd likely lay in her bed and stare at the ceiling with a goofy smile on her face and think fondly of the boy she had her first date with. She lowered her head, seeming to almost tune out the loud football players and their cheerleader counterparts as they screamed in celebration. But she was brought back to reality when Booker spoke and she looked up to him, her electric blue eyes sparkling like neon light almost. He spoke about the football game and a bright smile came onto her lips, a sweet and intoxicating giggle falling from her lips. She looked to him and almost seemed to glance at his lips for a moment before looking back to his eyes. She blushed. She then noticed him look away shyly and she began to wonder why he was so shy around her. They had been joking around and giggling before at the diner and in the limo. She supposed it was their surroundings. So she looked forward and her eyes scanned the crowd, almost seeming to try and look busy. But then her eyes locked with Eddie as he glanced over to her and she quickly averted her gaze, fury and hurt in her blue eyes. And in that moment, Booker reached down and grabbed her hand, intertwining their fingers. Did he have good timing or did he notice how upset Eddie had made her? She brushed these thoughts off and the fury and hurt seemed to melt from her eyes as she looked to the boy she had grown so fond of. And then he tugged on her hand and she let out a bubbly giggle, one that rose over the music and would make anyone love her. She smiled brightly as they approached the buffet and she hungrily licked her lips. She saw Booker load a sloppy joe on his plate as she held her own hand. She grimaced. She had always hated sloppy joes and shepherd's pie as well. She moved to look through the buffet, trying to find something to eat. She saw some barbecued turkey and her stomach roared as she stacked the thickly sliced turkey onto a bun. She licked her lips and grabbed a roll as well, as well as a small brownie and two sugar cookies. She decided to splurge, her stomach was grumbling anyway. She would just work it off later. She walked after Booker as they came to the back of the gym, almost hiding in the shadows.

She looked to her date as he spoke, a bright smile on her face. "Of course. I want to pick the next date though, I have a few cute ideas." Grace spoke with a warm smile before popping the small brownie into her mouth. She chewed with her mouth closed and looked to Booker as he looked at her with shock clear in his features. She nearly giggled, covering her mouth with her open hand. She swallowed and shook her head with a big smile. "You've been been nothing but a gentleman and I've had a great time. Why wouldn't we go on a second date?" She asked as she raised her brow at him.

When Grace said their next date, his eyes had lit up and his jaw practically dropped. She giggled and he blushed at her words. So were they dating now?

Booker was smiling fro ear to ear, staring down at his food, the tips of his ears red. Then he glanced up and saw his best friends giving him a thumbs up, which only caused him to become more flustered. Still, he smiled back at them.

He felt good. Like really good. He didn't think he had felt that good since before his mom's death. He could still picture himself standing in front of her open coffin, one of her cousins singing her favorite song for the end of the service. Afterward everyone seemed to ask about what college he wanted to go to, and how he had to help his dad through this, and if he had an interest in any girl. His aunt Maria was the worst with her comforting that didn't comfort him at all, but luckily uncle Felix shooed her away.

Then his uncle laughed and slapped his hand on Booker's back. He told him, "Chin up, kid. Your mom wouldn't want to see you frown like that."

"I guess." Booker had said, all of the good feelings he had ever felt seeping out him.

"So don't do it. You can make the decision to be happy, Booker."

But that was easy enough for him to say. His mom hadn't just died - just his brother's wife, who he had never been very close to.

Booker watched Grace, the way she smiled and messed with her hair and picked at her food, and he started to smile without noticing. She really was the best thing since sliced bread in his opinion.

It was then that he saw Grace's two best friend running up to them, with huge smiles on their faces and excited expressions. Before they could reach them, Booker set his food on the table behind them and turned to Grace.

"I'll go grab us some drinks."

He left her to her friends, going over to the drink station. He grabbed a plastic cup and filled it up to the rim with water. He tapped his foot to the music, moving along to the beat.

Jane and Savvy arrived to the school a little later than the rest. Mostly because Jane couldn't figure out what she wanted to wear, to which Savvy picked out a lilac summer dress for her and told her to hurry up. Savvy herself wore a teal tank and a black ruffled skirt, as well as a jean jacket covered in patches she had sewn on herself.

The two had spotted Grace as soon as they walked through the door, and they were quick to make their way toward her. Booker noticed and took his leave. They squealed happily as they reached her.

"So how is the date going?" Savvy asked, getting straight to the point.

"I've been spying on him, and I saw him ask the school counselor if he could switch one of his classes to one of yours!" Jane said, practically jumping up and down. "He so totally likes you! Like a lot!"

"And I checked him out. He is an only child and he comes from money." Jane was smiling dreamily, as if already picturing being at their fabulous, expensive wedding.

Both of the girls kept chattering on and on, saying how they couldn't wait for the two of them to fall in love and whatnot, talking loudly over the music.

    GRACE LYNN MARYWEATHER

Cello Player Crushing on Booker/Pregnant by Eddie Fifteen

Grace giggled as she saw Booker's reaction to her saying there would be a second date. She supposed it was because he was shy and this was both of their first dates. But she could already tell she really liked Booker. He had written her a poem, come on! She knew she would soon be completely smitten with Booker and a big part of her was very excited for that. She had always wanted to find love, like in the movies. She was a hopeless romantic and that seemed to be a strength as well as a weakness. She'd put on grand shows to show the person she loved that she loved them but she was also pulled into a spell if someone used the right words and right actions. She supposed that was what had happened with Eddie. He had said all the right words, knowing the influence he had over women. But now, she saw right through him. He had just wanted to sleep with her and then blow her off the next day. She knew that now. And she would never let Eddie hurt her like that again. And based on his reaction to the pregnancy and how he treated her after, he obviously wanted nothing to do with this baby. While that saddened her the slightest bit, she knew that that would be the best for the baby. She couldn't have a father that was only there half the time, if that. She wanted her child to have a father, to be shown love. She guessed Eddie wasn't the type to take responsibility for his actions and this baby was part of that equation. She knew Booker deserved to know. She just wanted another date before she told him. She wanted him to like her for who she was and not see her as this teen mom that everyone else would see her as. She wanted Booker to see her as more than an object, like Eddie had. She was so much more than that. She was intelligent and an excellent cello player and all this other things. Other than a teen mother. But of course, that was all people would label her as. First, it had been the 'devil' spawn of two gay women. And then she was some kind of monster for being partially deaf. And now, it seemed the prosecution would never end. Not until she got out of this small minded town. Which she planned on doing right after she graduated. Her plan was to get a scholarship to Julliard and play for their symphony before graduating and joining the Russian Symphony. She wanted to prove everyone wrong about her. And she would bring her child along every step of the way. She needed her child to see how hard she was working and show her child that anything is possible if you work hard enough for it.

The young girl began to eat her roll, eating slowly and one bite at a time. Her stomach was starting to get a bit queasy and she would really hate if she threw up all of the food she had eaten today. She sighed softly and out of the corner of her eye, that was when she saw Booker staring at her. She blushed brightly and before anything could be said between them, Savvy and June rushed toward her excitedly. She giggled at the sight and her electric gaze turned to Booker as he set down his food. He seemed to dismiss himself to get the two of them some drinks and she smiled softly at him. She watched him go and a few moments later, her best friends had reached her and she turned her gaze to them. Grace laughed as they squealed and seemed very quick to the questions and rambling on and on about how he came from money and how excited they were for them to get married. Grace shook her head and motioned for them to slow down. "Guys, stop." She laughed. "The date is going really well, we already agreed on a second date. And when I tell him about the baby, I'm not gonna force him to do anything. Eddie wants nothing to do with this baby so I won't force another guy to step in because Eddie isn't being responsible. If I have to, I'll do this on my own." Grace said with a sad smile and a shrug.

Both of the girls quickly hushed her and glanced around the gym. Luckily, no one was paying attention and they seemed satisfied. Both of them sighed in a relieved manner.

"Not so loud." Savvy hissed underneath her breath, stepping closer to her friend with a worried expression.

"So you guys are going on another date?" Jane lit up at the idea, her smile only growing. She was simply beside herself with joy for her friend.

The two girls exchanged a glance, remembering what they had talked about in class earlier that day. They still thought she should consider her options when it came to the baby, such as adoption, or telling Booker he's the father, as he would make a much better one than Eddie. Though they decided to keep quiet, as they didn't want to upset her. Especially not when she was on her first date with Booker. What kind of friends would they be if they ruined this for her?

It was then that Savvy noticed Eddie standing across the gym. He was staring hard at Grace and she could have sworn she saw him smiling.

"What a creep." She snickered, flipping her curls behind her shoulder. The girls already held a low standard for him before, but now they absolutely loathed him.

"Why won't he stop staring at you?" Jane's brow furrowed in confusion, her teeth grinding together, as if she was ready to pick a fight with him. She even balled her hands into fists.

Then Eddie began walking toward them, pushing past his dancing classmates, still smiling. Jane gasped while Savvy cursed under her breath.

"I'm gonna kill him!" Savvy was seething as she moved to meet Eddie, but Jane grabbed her arm and held her back. Savvy wrenched her arm free, but didn't move to slug Eddie.

When Eddie finally reached them, he stuffed his hands into his pockets and offered that charming smile of his. "Hello ladies."

The girls scoffed and rolled their eyes, clearly disgusted with him. As they started to walk away, they heard Eddie ask Grace what was wrong with them.

"Who does he think he is?" Savvy grumbled, crossing her arms over her chest.

They started to pass by Booker on their way to the food table, but Jane paused and spun around to face him. "Hey."

Booker turned around, startled, almost spilling his water. "Oh, hey."

"That Eddie guy is trying to make some moves on your girl." Savvy said, jerking her head toward the pair.

Booker's eyes narrowed with jealousy. He started to move in their direction, clearly not liking the way Eddie was eyeing his date. He almost seemed territorial, which made the girls uneasy.

Jane grabbed his arm. "Wait. It's only the first date. Play it cool."

Booker frowned at them before turning to look back toward Grace. He looked like he still wanted to walk over there, but decided against it.

    GRACE LYNN MARYWEATHER

Cello Player Crushing on Booker/Pregnant by Eddie Fifteen

Grace sighed softly and pursed her lips when her friends quickly hushed her. She looked around with a raised brow, not surprised at all that no one had been listening. This was a school function celebrating the victorious football team. A loser cello player seemed to be the least interesting thing to talk about. She blinked and turned her electric blue eyes to her friends as they spoke up. Savvy told her to not speak so loud and Grace rolled her eyes, looking to Jane as she asked about Booker and herself going on a second date. She nodded excitedly and she smiled brightly, talking about the date clearly seemed to be the thing that cheered her up. But then, she noticed the glance between Jane and Savvy and her smile faltered and she scowled. She knew what she wanted, she didn't need her best friends to change her mind. No matter what happened, she was keeping this baby. She would figure things out, she had to. She clenched her jaw and was honestly annoyed that her friends hadn't accepted her choice. She knew she had made the choice to have sex with someone like Eddie and that had consequences. Not the ones she had expected but she wouldn't take them back. They had led to the life growing inside of her and despite who her baby's father was, she wouldn't blame her child for her being hopeful and choosing to see the good in Eddie. She glanced up through the various lights in the gym and her electric gaze landed on Eddie as he stared at her. She inhaled deeply and an instant sadness glittered in her eyes. She blinked and quickly averted her gaze. She clenched her jaw hard and lowered her head, her heart sinking in her chest. His actions over the summer still felt like a very deep and real wound. And his comment about her weight in the diner only made her hate him more. Well, she claimed she hated him. But she knew she didn't. She was just angry because she wished she could hate him. Savvy then made a comment about Eddie and Grace lifted her gaze, looking to her friend. She smiled weakly, nodding softly. She could still feel his eyes on her and she tried her best to avoid his gaze. She couldn't fall for his stupid act, not again. She had been hurt before and he had chose Mavis. And he would chose Mavis, again. She simply wasn't enough for him. But she knew she was enough for someone. She smiled softly to herself. She seemed to be enough for Booker. She bit her bottom lip with a soft blush as she thought of her date. She lifted her gaze and watched Booker from a few feet away. She smiled fondly as she gazed at him, really liking the idea of possibly calling him her boyfriend. Jane then made a comment that Eddie wouldn't stop staring at her and she blinked, turning her attention to her friend with a frown.

It was then Grace noticed Eddie making his way toward her. She inhaled deeply and her eyes narrowed. Eddie weaved through dancing students and she heard Jane gasp and Savvy curse. She glanced over at her best friends and lifted her chin, an anger in her electric blue eyes. Savvy made a remark that she was going to kill Eddie and Grace was half-tempted to let her. But Jane grabbed her and stopped her before any harm could be done and Grace crossed her arms over her chest. Grace huffed, obviously annoyed when Eddie acted like his usual charming self. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and flashed that smile of his, making Grace just want to strangle him. She quirked her brow at him as he spoke and she blinked slowly, as if he had said something stupid. The girls scoffed and walked away. Well, more like Jane dragged Savvy away. Eddie asked Grace what was wrong with them and Grace rolled her eyes, shaking her head. "Nothing is wrong with my friends. What do you want, Eddie?" Grace barked back, her gaze turning to the male beside her. She blinked and looked at him for a few moments. She wanted to know what had been so bad about the night they had spent together that he had gone straight to Mavis afterwards. Had she been bad? Or was he just that much of an asshole? She clenched her jaw and looked out to the dance floor as she crossed her arms over her chest. "You're so hot and cold. Make up your damn mind. One minute, you want me. The next you want Mavis. One minute you are trying to be nice to me, the next you're insulting me. Which is it? Or is it that your masculinity is so frail that you have to push every woman you encounter down to your level to feel better about yourself? Well, I'm done. With this stupid game and with you." She growled out and unfolded her arms and went to march off when she felt Eddie grab her hand she spun around to face him, her eyes narrowing. Almost seeming to warn him that his next words better be something good.
