//a song-study to this song
Touch my mouth
And hold my tongue
I'll never be your chosen one
I'll be home, safely tucked away
You can't tempt me if I don't see the day
If there was one thing that Eagle knew, it was that he was meant to lead the group in Creed's absence one day. But looking across everyone, he also knew that he would never follow in his father's footsteps. He wouldn't, couldn't. So, he planned. And finally, when he was getting up in moons, knew that his time was coming, he decided that there was only one things to to do - and when they found his empty room, he was already far gone.
The pull on my flesh is just too strong
It stifles the choice and the air in my lungs
Better not to breathe than to breathe a lie
When I open my body and breathe alive
He had not meant to live. But it seemed that the universe was against him in that respect, and he woke up coughing yet certainly alive, in a strange place with a strange cat. 'You're lucky I found you' he had said, and Eagle bit his tongue.
I will not speak of your sin
There was a way out for him
The mirror shows not
Your values are all shot
Eagle and this stranger - who never gave him his name, as Eagle never gave him his - stayed living together after that, as he recovered. They got close then, closer than Eagle had been to anyone (Sparrow notwithstanding), in a way different than anyone else. It was night, and they were curled up next to each other by a dying flame some humans had left out in those round bins, watching the flames dance across the other's fur in a way that made his heart thump. 'Kid listen, I'm a monster' he had stated, before telling Eagle of the terrible things he did. Eagle should've been scared - here he was, barely older than a boy, with a murderer for company. The tom was dangerous, they type of dangerous that he tried to escape from.
But oh, my heart was flawed
I knew my weakness
So hold my hand
Consign me not to darkness
But Eagle was weak. His heart had been taken, and no matter what being by his side was worlds better than back before, back with Creed and all those expectations. Here he was loved he was sure, here he was happy. The first time they kissed the other tasted of stale prey and a vague hint of smoke, yet it was perfect to Eagle. Everything was perfect for him.
Crawl on my belly til the sun goes down
I'll never wear your broken crown
I took the rope and I fucked it all the way
In this twilight, how dare you speak of grace
He didn't know how they found him, found he was still alive. It had to only a months at the most, and then him and Tom (as he mentally called the other, both too stubborn now to ask for their real names. And Eagle preferred being 'Kid' than 'Eagle' anyways - even if the other was only a couple months older than him in the first place), they had to run for it. There were many good trackers in his past home, and he knew that Creed would stop at nothing to bring him under his control again, now that they knew he was alive. He wasn't - he was going to be with Tom, and that was it.
Crawl on my belly til the sun goes down
I'll never wear your broken crown
I took the rope and I fucked it all the way
In this twilight, how dare you speak of grace
'This is grace, my dear Eagle. Never leave me again.' Creed had said, the night that everything changed. A couple more months have passed, and Eagle was not a boy in any standards - not that he hadn't been one for a while now. Not like he ever was able to just be a boy. But once again, it was fire, fire that seared his memory. He struggled, but Creed had a whole army behind him, and Eagle only had Tom. Tom had stood up to Creed the best he could, and Eagle could say that he fought with all his soul. Eagle had taken out a few of the cats he had grown up with - now grown as well, and trained to kill. He had cried, Eagle remembered, trying to coax Tom back up, to run away and save himself. 'Bear' the other had said, 'Eagle', Eagle said in response, committing his name to memory as he dragged away by a multitude of others, feeling a bit of satisfactions on needing so many to bring only one of him down. Bear.
Crawl on my belly til the sun goes down
I'll never wear your broken crown
I can take the rope and I can fuck it all the way
But in this twilight, our choices seal our fate
'you have been corrupted - you were supposed to be perfect. I will make you perfect again.' Creed had stated, as he tied him down (too big and too ready to fight back now) and beat him, as he starved and dehydrated him. As he locked him in a room away from the others for weeks upon end. Eagle saw Sparrow sometimes, but he barely recognized the one in front in him. He knew now - Creed will always haunt him, will always track him down living or dead. But he would not be apart of this game, not be apart of this evil. He refused. He gained the trust of Creed back, gained the trust of the other back, until he saw his chance one night in a simple rope someone left. And when they found Creed's empty room, he was already far gone.
