  • Stonekit | Darkclan | 3 moons | grey + amber eyes | plotting open

Eyes screwed shut, Stonekit sniffed the mossy curtain protecting him from the outside world. Slowly, hesitantly, he cracked one eye open. It stung, and he had to fight the urge to close it again. This was not a pleasant first experience with leaving the nest. Why was it so bright out there? Stonekit let his eye close again, then reluctantly poked his head past the moss. The world was flooded with a horrible light, but he had to endure it. He had to explore, even if it hurt. He was not going to open his eyes.

One shaky pawstep after another, Stonekit left the safe dullness of the nursery. It wasn't so bad, he decided. The ground beneath his paws was the same solid rock. Although... He would wait before opening his eyes again. As gracefully as he could, he tried to explore by scent and sound alone. A soft, trickling sort of noise made him pause. What was that? He took another step forward, then let loose a terrified yowl as he slipped off the edge of a rock and into a stream.

    Jewelpelt

Jewelpelt lays aside the nursery- she needed to clear her head. A kit. Yes, she now had a kit- and she needed to care about it, and think about an excuse when other cats ask her whose in StarClan sake is that kit. Thinking there, bees buzzying inside her head, she suddenly realized the kit- Stonekit- was outside. He was pretty big already. Suddenly, she saw him dangerously close to the stream. She leaped forwards, aiming to grab him by the scruff and pull him up. Suddenly, she could feel slippery under her own paws, and after she rather harshly threw the kit on the ground, she was in the stream, half of her body underwater. She pulled herself up and shaked her fur off. She padded towards the kit nervously, and licked him. “Be more careful... Stonekit,” she said slowly and gently.

Stonekit dangled loosely from Jewelpelt's mouth for what felt like forever, his amber eyes wide open with fright. If he hadn't just been thoroughly drenched, his fur would have been standing on end. His paws were back on the blessedly still ground again and although they were wet, he could grip just fine. "Sorry, mother." mumbled Stonekit, looking down as a wave of embarrassment and shame crashed violently into him.

Under usual circumstances, being groomed by Jewelpelt bothered him - he could do it himself - but for now he tolerated and evened enjoyed the oddly soothing nature of it. "Should go inside now?" He asked, unsure if he was disappointed or relieved by the prospect.

His eyes were adjusting to the light now, so that it was no longer harsh and jarring. Without the pain deterring him, Stonekit was much more eager to explore.

Jewelpelt smiled warmly at Stonekit. Look at him how was he cute! He now opened his eyes and talked! Mistypaw would’ve been proud... Jewelpelt’s eyes slightly flashed when she heard the words. Mother?! Oh, well. He was supposed to think that. She would make others stay silent about his adoption. And also, she cared for him between the duties, every now and then. Actually, she did it all the free time she had left. Plus Misty gave him milk from time to time. But it would probably have to stop, now that he could see. She smiled warmly at the question. “Go when it’s dark or when you are tired or feeling cold. Or afraid of something. I can always protect you, give you food or warmth. Don’t forget not to go out of camp. There is snow and cold outside. But you can wander around a little, meet new people. Just be careful!” she spoke with a warm voice. She was even starting to think she liked being a mother- but no, it was just... what wouldn’ she do for Mistypaw?

Stonekit brightened, although his tail was still curled beneath his body nervously. He stepped forward, away from Jewelpelt, and turned to look her in the eyes as he spoke. "Promise?" He asked solemnly.

She hadn't promised yet, but Jewelpelt's protection certainly made him feel safer. She had rescued him from the stream, after all, and always kept him fed. Well, not always. Sometimes the other mother fed him. Stonekit paused, then looked around to see if the other mother was outside. "Does the other mother live here too?" He wondered, when he didn't see her.

He had expected to recognise her immediately, despite not being sure what she looked like.

Jewelpelt got a little startled by the questions. Here came the time to lie. She was a good liar, afterall. Some of her lies were still buried down inside, and she had almost forgot them. Forgot her own children? What kind of cat was she?! She shook her head authomatically to shrugg the bad feelings away, than looked down at her adopted son. “Yes, I promise. Oh-oh, you mean the feeder? She just- brings- milk- huh, she may be around somewhere. She is an apprentice,” she answered, her voice shivering at places.

Stonekit blinked, unable to completely believe Jewelpelt. The other mother's scent was distinctly memorable and comforting, like Jewelpelt's scent. It smelled like safety. She was important. She must be. "Can meet her?" He asked, hoping that the other mother would tell Jewelpelt she was being silly.

Of course they were both his mother. They could share. The stories he had been told about the warrior code made it clear that Darkclan shared with each other. Stonekit opened his mouth to speak again, then paused. A shudder racked his tiny body and instead of speaking, he sneezed.
