  • this is, essentially, going to be a compendium of herbal knowledge that heatherbloom picks up over her career as medicine cat. feel free to track, but don't spam as i'd like to be able to find these easily.

  • pre-medicine cat training.

    • marigold: good at preventing infections. chew into a poultice before applying. it grows near twolegplace, asking skyclan for help is the best bet when in a pinch.
    • horsetail: good at preventing infections. apply ?? horsetail is found near the river, but don't mistake it for simple reeds.
    • feverfew: good for fevers, coughs and belly cramps. ingested by the patient grows in the forest, but due to the fire outside help is needed in gathering it.
    • sticks: good for setting broken bones and clamping down on to relieve pain-induced tension. it's a stick.
    • bindweed: ivy like vines with white and yellow flowers. good for binding broken limbs, hence the name. found nearby skyclan territory.
    • poppy seeds: the seeds from the centre of a poppy flower. used as a sedative and a sleeping aid. ingested by the patient. found ??
  • winter 2018-19.

    • chamomile: good at returning strength. ingested by patient. found ??
    • sorrel: encourages a patient to eat. ingested by patient. found ??
    • cobwebs: used to staunch bleeding and cover wounds to prevent infection. applied topically to wounds, sometimes on top of a poultice. found wherever spiders have been, but try to avoid arachnids when harvesting.
    • catmint: used as treatment for whitecough and greencough. ingested by patient. found nearby skyclan territory.

    identifications and treatments:

    • seizure: there is nothing you can do except let it pass. it should only last a few minutes. keep the area clear in case of errant claws, so nobody gets injured. keep a patient on their side with their legs stretched in front of them to open their airways.
    • bleeding: apply pressure to the wound until it stops bleeding. if necessary, moss can be used to soak it up.
    • internal bleeding: press nose or paw against the suspected site. feel for swelling and excessive warmth. distinguished from bruising how ??
    • snake bites (standard): treat as any other bleeding injury, but be aware that infection is likely.
    • snake bites (venomous): there is nothing that can be done. make the victim as comfortable as possible, because they will die.
