Hadley sighed softly when Tony said he was alright. That's when the adrenaline left her body and was replaced with immense pain. She winced and looked down at her thigh, seeing the bullet was deep inside her skin. She knew it would be a bitch to pull out, especially if it had splintered. She looked up at Tony, pain in her blue eyes. She watched him walk over to her and she let out a surprised squeal as he picked her up into his arms so easily. She was a light woman to begin with but she definitely wasn't used to being carried. Hadley wrapped her arms around Tony's neck weakly, one of her hands covered in blood. She leaned her head against his metal suit and it was strangely comforting. She winced as they began to move, the pain making the area around the wounds throb. As they came back onto the ship, the crew was in ruins. People were running around and screaming and trying to figure out what the hell to do. Hadley whimpered in pain, her weak grip on Tony's shoulder. "Is everyone alright?" She asked him weakly, her blue eyes lifting to meet his gaze. That's when the pain in her thigh got worse. She cried out, tears brimming her eyes. She gripped tightly to Tony, as if he was the only thing tethering her to the Earth. She had advanced healing but she couldn't do much healing if the bullet was still in her thigh and causing her to bleed out. She could already feel the wound on her side stitching itself back up and she found it easier to breathe.

When Tony came to the medical wing, it was chaos. SHIELD soldiers were everywhere and so was blood. The doctors were running around rampant and wanting to fix everyone. Hadley weakly lost grip on Tony as her body fell limp, her skin becoming paler from blood loss. She fell unconscious and couldn't hear Tony scream for someone to help her. One doctor rushed forward and urged Tony to lay her on a bed. Once she was, the doctor assessed the bullet wound and told Tony it had shattered in her leg. And they would need to, quite literally, dig into her leg to get all the pieces. The doctor told Tony to hold onto her tightly because she would scream. As soon as she felt the alcohol touch her wound, she sprung awake and cried out in pain. She felt Tony's arms around her as he sat behind her, supporting her body. She felt the tears brim her eyes as she looked down at the doctor pulling medical tools out. She felt nauseous. She gripped tightly onto Tony's arms and as the doctor dug into her leg, she let out a blood curdling scream, squeezing her eyes shut. She felt the entire room spin and she groaned, her face pale. She felt the doctor dig again and she nearly threw up. The doctor pulled out the first piece, that largest piece of the bullet. He urged her that there was just a few more and she shakily exhaled with a nod. The doctor dug deeper and Hadley screamed, pain coursing through her body and making her dizzy. Blood covered the bed under her leg and she cried, gripping tightly to Tony. She felt herself on the verge of passing out once more, when Tony's voice broke through her mind. His voice was calm and kind and she clung to it, knowing she needed to stay awake. She felt the last few pieces be dug out and she sobbed each time, the pain getting worse each time. When the doctor said she was done, she panted heavily, tears running down her cheeks. The doctor watched, amazed as the wound began to stitch itself together. The doctor checked her file an rushed off to get her blood type.

Hadley gripped Tony's arms weakly and she panted, looking up at him with tired eyes. Her face was still severely pale but some color was returning to her cheeks. "Thank you, Tony." She whispered softly before she fell asleep from exhaustion on his chest. She sighed softly as she slept and the doctor came back, hooking her up to a bag of blood, just to make sure she healed properly. Hadley slept softly, her breaths uneven but gentle. She had her arms weakly coiled in Tony's and she seemed to find comfort in him. The doctor told Tony that with her advanced healing, she should be perfectly fine in an hour. The doctor smiled softly and then walked off.

Steve was glad to see Adelaide was alright to see the least. Despite the pain he was in, he couldn't help but smile at her as she walked over to him. Steve chuckled at her worried eyes and the way she assessed him, like a worried girlfriend. He blushed softly. He liked that idea. It was too early to really tell but he could see something in her, something others didn't see. When she called him an idiot for fighting the Hulk on his own, he simply shrugged. "I would've rather died by the Hulk killing me than letting anything happen to anyone on this ship." Steve said with a soft smile but the twinkle in his eyes made it seem as if his words were meant for Adelaide and her alone. When she moved her hand away, Steve looked around the room. He guessed she wasn't used to showing her true self and was embarrassed since they were in a room full of people. Steve lowered his gaze back down to the beautiful woman, his breaths soft. The pain still coursed through his veins like a fire but he knew he would be alright. Steve decided to let her have her way and let her patch him up. He began to walk toward his cabin and nodded for her to follow. "There's one in my room." Steve said calmly as he walked down the halls to his cabin. He opened the door and walked inside, grabbing the medical kit from under his bed. He set it on his bed and stripped off his shirt with a deep wince.

His body was covered in bruises, especially his ribs and his back. There were cuts here and there from the glass but there was one large gash across his stomach. It had been Hulk threw him into a pile of pipes and one of the pipes had been broken and sliced his stomach. Blood gently ran down his stomach and he moved to grab a chair from his desk. He sat down in the chair with a wince, squeezing his eyes shut. He opened his eyes once more, a black eye already forming and a severe cut on his lip. The male was in terrible shape. Even he could admit that. But he wouldn't trade any moment of it. He saved everyone on this ship, including the goddess in front of him.

Adelaide nodded her head, swiftly following after the man. She just wanted to get out of that room and everyone’s curious and wandering eyes. Of course she didn’t really know how much better it would be for her concentration to be alone in a room with him but she figured it would probably be easier for her to tune to his wounds rather than getting him to the medical wing where the doctors were probably busy taking care of all the other people who had to have gotten hurt during the last twenty minutes. On the way to his room she remained quiet, arms hanging loosely from her side. It felt nice standing beside Steve, almost calming in a way and she wasn’t exactly sure if she liked it or not. She kept telling herself that she couldn’t get attached. Any number of them could die before this was over, and even then she hardly knew the man so it made no sense for her to feel this way about him. Adelaide wasn’t going to risk getting attached only to either get her heart broken, or watch him die. But, that didn’t mean she couldn’t have any fun with him.

Walking into his room she looked around for a moment. Nothing new, it looked just like any of the other rooms on the ship. When he set the medical kit on the bed she crossed over, picking up the box and opening it. It had all the supplies she would be needing. Looking up her eyes landed on him and she sucked in a breath at the sight of Steve without a shirt on. Just like she had previously thought he looked just as delicious without a shirt on with one on. Even with the scars. Or maybe she was just use to sleeping with men in the industry like her and at this point she even thought someone could look gorgeous with multiple wounds decorating their body.

Luckily for Steve the only cut that would need stitches was the large gash on his stomach. The others just needed the pieces of glass pulled out, cleaned, and covered with a bandage. Pulling on some latex gloves and grabbing the tweezers from the box along with some alcohol-free cleaning wipes she went over to him and stood behind him. She was going to take care of the smaller cuts and then make him lay on the bed and take care of the large cut. ”I need you to lean forward for me some, Steve.” She knew it would hurt some what with the wound on his stomach but the sooner they got this done the quicker he would feel better. Once he did as instructed she went to work on getting any pieces of glass out of his skin. It didn’t take more than a few minutes and after that she took the wipes and started cleaning them all before covering them with the bandages. Now for the wound on his stomach. Standing she grabbed his hand and led him over to his bed, ordering him to lay down. Grabbing a wipe she cleaned the area around the gash before putting some numbing cream on it so he wouldn’t feel any pain when she started suturing it. Waiting a few minutes for it to kick in, she used the time to get the needle and thread ready and putting an ice pack over his black eye. Once she was sure the area was numb she began closing the round up, hoping that if he did feel any pain it wasn’t extreme or agonizing. After she was done she stood and wrapped his midsection in a long bandage to better protect the area. ”There good as knew.” She mused, her bright blue gaze moving to meet his as she moved to sit beside him. Running one of her hands through his cropped hair to get it out of his face she smiled softly. ”How you feel? Need any pain medicine?”

Tony looked down towards Hadley once she asked if everyone was alright. Of course she would still be more concerned with everyone else rather than herself. He supposed they needed more caring people like her in the world. ”Yeah everyone’s good.” He hadn’t responded to Steve’s question but he could hear everyone calling in to let him know they were fine so she had nothing to worry about. When he heard her cry of pain he picked up his pace, walking faster. As they moved he saw all the people running around in a state of panic like a chicken when it’s head gets cut off. He silently felt like an idiot as he carried the hurt woman down to the medical wing. Loki got exactly what he wanted. He had to have known that they would get into an argument and that those people attacking the ship would get Bruce to Hulk out and they all fell for it. He felt even more like shit knowingnhe hadnt been out of the engine in time to keep Hadley from getting shot at. Of course it wasn’t his fault that this all happened but it didn’t mean it made him feel any better.

The medical wing was chaotic. Doctors were running around trying to tend to everyone and there was tons of people in need of assistance. Feeling Hadley loosing her grip on him his eyes flew down to her and saw her slipping into unconsciousness. ”Hey I need some help over here!” He screamed out, tightening his hold on the small woman. A doctor came over and told him to put Hadley on a bed so he did. He winced slightly at the idea of having to hear Hadley screamed but he knew it needed to be done in order for her to heal properly. Sitting behind the blonde, he wrapped his arms around her stomach tightly, holding her close to him. He squeezed his eyes closed when he heard her let out a scream. That was probably once of the worst things he had ever heard in his life and trust him he’s heard plenty of bad things. He knew it was painful, and he wished he could do something to make the pain less but he was a engineer and technician not a doctor. It was a shame they couldn’t put her under or even used something to numb the pain but there was so many people that they needed to get her fixed and attend to the next set of patients. When he felt Hadley start to fall asleep he shook his head and spoke up urgently. ”Come on, Hadley. I need you to stay awake for me.” Just until the bullet was completely out and knew she wasn’t going to be dying from blood loss. Once the bullet was completely out he let loose a sigh of relief. Thank fucking god.

He didn’t let go of her. Tony wasn’t sure why but he felt compelled to stay there with her, like he didn’t want to let go of. When she thanked him he chuckled softly and shrugged slightly. ”Don’t mention it.” He said, rubbing her arm gently. Once he noticed she had fallen asleep he leaned his head back and closed his eyes for a moment until the doctor came back and hooked her up to the bag of blood and letting him know that she should be good in a hour. He thanked the doctor quietly. This was one hell of a day.

Hadley slept softly, holding weakly onto Tony's arms. Her breaths were soft as they left her parted pink lips. She was sleeping peacefully, despite the vents that had just happened. She hummed softly in her sleep, nuzzling into Tony's chest. He was still wearing the metal suit but she found comfort in him. Just his touch. She wasn't sure why but everything about her made her feel safe. Hadley's wound closed up completely and the color began to return to her cheeks. Hadley was asleep for about forty five minutes before the nightmares interrupted her dreams. Images of her mother appeared and the taser gun she would use. Hadley swore she could still feel the sting of the electricity coursing through her body as her mother's evil cackle echoed in the background. Hadley whimpered in her sleep, her grip tightening on Tony. She got images of the male scientists. How they looked at her with a sickening smile, even as she was a child. Her screams echoed in her dreams as she felt them slice at her. She saw the main scientist come into the room with a twisted smile on his face. She began panting in her sleep, the panic and fear making it clear she was reliving her childhood. The main scientist grabbed her chin and looked down at her with hunger while she heard the other male scientists laughing. She felt his hand move up her thigh and...

Hadley woke with a jolt, sitting up and panting heavily. Everything was a blur. Her panic only increased, so terrified that she was back in her mother's lab. That they had somehow found her and brought her back Hadley let out a scream as she felt someone touch her arm and she whipped her head around, only to see Tony. Her face relaxed as tears brimmed her eyes. She cried and crawled back into his arms, not knowing what else to do. She sniffled and her body shook, still terrified from the nightmare she experienced. She clung to Tony, as if he was the only thing tethering to reality. She sniffled and wiped the tears from her cheeks as she sat up. Her panic had decreased and she felt slightly better. Slightly. The woman looked up to see she had used all of the blood bag. She looked down at her arm and pulled out the IV with a slight wince. She felt better now, completely healed. She brushed her curls behind her ear as she hugged herself. Her blue eyes looked at Tony with a soft smile. "I'm sorry. I had a nightmare. Usually Walter calms me down but he isn't here right now." Hadley said softly. She knew Walter was alright. As soon as things went south, he probably ran back to her room.

Steve watched her go through his small kit, his blue eyes sparkling in the dim light. When he watched her put on the latex gloves, he chuckled softly. He saw a different side to her in all of this. The kind who wanted to care for others but was too scared to. Steve watched her as she crossed over to him and he leaned forward with a slight wince. His stomach wound seeped more blood and he clenched his jaw. As she picked out the glass, he had to admit, he barely felt it. His body was already working on healing his body and it would only need help with the stomach gash. He smiled softly as she tended to his wounds. She was kind and caring, even if she didn't want to admit it. If this was nothing more than a mission for her, why would she want to help Steve and Steve alone? He knew they got along but this was a different story. Steve looked up at her as she grabbed his hand and brought him to his bed. He blushed softly. He had to admit, he hadn't been alone with a woman in his room... ever? He couldn't remember if he had ever been alone with a woman. He cringed at the thought. He was a virgin, how embarrassing. He had been under ice for most of his extended life but still. The only woman he wanted before was Peggy. But she was in the past, even he had to admit that. As painful as it was.

Steve watched her clean the area around the gash on his stomach and then add the numbing creme. He leaned his head back. He was fine with having battle wounds but needles? He was not a fan. He clenched his jaw, wincing softly as she began to stitch up his wound. The numbing creme helped him not be in excruciating pain but it was still painful. He had been so distracted by the needle, he didn't even notice that she had placed an ice pack on his eye. Steve chuckled as she wrapped his midsection in bandages. He understood that she was good at this sort of thing but this was something else. The way she was gentle with his wounds and took her time and everything. She cared for him. Even if she didn't want to admit it to herself. Steve smiled softly, adoration in his blue eyes as he watched her sit beside him. He blinked, feeling her brush the hair from his face. He looked up at her, entranced by her. Not just her beauty, but her kindness, her gentleness. Steve reached forward and brushed a long lock of her dark hair behind her ear as he blushed softly. "I feel fine, Adelaide." Steve chuckled softly, his soft gaze meeting hers. His lips parted as his eyes drifted to her lips. He felt his body already healing itself so he was feeling much better. He sat up, ignoring the pain in his torso. His face was inches from hers and he looked at her with a soft gaze. Patient, gentle.

"Can I kiss you?" His voice broke through the silence and his breaths were uneven. When she agreed, he smiled widely. He gently moved so that his hand held her face in his hands. He gently caressed her cheekbone with his thumb, admiring her beauty. He leaned in, his breaths shaky. He felt like a teenager all over again. His heart raced against his chest and he finally kissed her. Fireworks made his head spin and he deepened the kiss, feeling like her lips were a drug. Their lips seemed to melt together perfectly, seeming to know exactly what the other would do. Steve smiled in the kiss, feeling something he had never felt before. He suddenly moved the two of them, she was laying on her back and he was hovering over her. He smiled warmly down at her before he leaned down once more, kissing her passionately. His body melted into hers as one hand was on her hip and the other on her waist. He kissed her with fervor, his body igniting at her touch. He let out a soft groan as she tugged on his hair and his lips trailed down her cheek to her chin and then her neck. He placed hungry kisses on her lips but they still remained soft. His hands gripped her body, yearning every inch of her. He panted softly, never wanting this moment to end.

When Steve said that he was fine, Adelaide smiled softly pulling her hand away from his hair. Reality started to set back into her. She needed to close off her walls again and turn back into the emotionless person she had been taught to be. Showing kindness was weakness because then people would abuse that kindness. Steve seemed like a nice guy but you could never be too sure. They always said it was the really sweet ones you should worry about but when Steve sat up, his face inches away from hers and he stared at her with those beautiful ocean eyes of his Adelaide knew she wouldn’t be leaving this room or this bed. Her gaze looked down towards his lips with a half lidded gaze. They looked so soft a kissable. She wondered just how many women had kissed him. Was she one of the only one’s? She remembered watching those documentaries with Margaret Carter and the way she had always talked about Steve proved that they had been more than just ‘friends’ so she assumed that had kissed but then Steve had gone under the ice did that mean she was going to be one of two women who had gotten the chance to use the famous Captain America.

When Steve asked if he could kiss her Adelaide looked back up and locked their gazes and stared at him for a moment. Nodding slowly she opened her mouth the speak. ”Uh, yeah.” She agreed softly, mentally slapping herself for sounding so breathy already. She felt her heart beating loudly in her chest, not understanding why she was suddenly so nervous to kiss him. It was just a fucking kiss it wasn’t like she was marrying the guy. When their lips finally met Adelaide let out a sigh. It felt like she was a teenager kissing her crush for the first time. They’re lips moved against each other as if they were use to kissing, her hands lifted up to grip at his shoulders and pull him closer. A surprised gasp left her when he flipped them over and she was on her back. She stared up at him, her chest lifting and falling as she panted. When he bent down and kissed her again she lifted her legs and wrapped them around his waist. Her hands dugged into his hair, a soft moan leaving her when she felt his hands roaming her body. So she tugged on his hair in retaliation, relishing in the groan she managed to bring out of him. She wondered just how many noises she could get him to make.

Since she had never been the type to let someone dominate her without a fight first Adelaide moved her hands down to his shoulders and shoved, forcing the large blonde onto his back. Swinging her leg over his hip so that one leg was on either side of him, she stared down at him with a devilish smile on her lips. Grabbing the back of his neck she pulled him up and kissed him hungrily, biting his bottom lip playfully. Running her hands down his side she hummed her lips softly. Pulling away from the kids she trailed her lips down towards his neck. Before she could continue on a loud knock sounded against the door but she ignored it at first but when Natasha’s voice rang through informing them that Nick wanted to speak to them all in the room they had met in so Adelaide yelled out that they were finishing up but would be done in a minute.

Tony simply sat there and held Hadley. He wasn’t compelled to move, or even go to see if everyone else was okay. He just wanted to stay here and make sure she was okay even though the doctor had assured her that she would be he wanted to be here to see it with his own eyes. The man wasn’t sure why he cared so much but he was drawn into her. Not only because she was outstandingly beautiful but also because he saw himself in her. They both hid behind masks of what they thought people wanted them to be. She was a agent trained by an agency, he was a man burned rich and had always been called that so he just acted like the world saw him as. Forty five minutes past before Hadley started to squirm and he looked down at her with concern. He wasn’t sure what was going on but he wanted to help but he knew from experience that waking someone up during a nightmare was a horrible experience. So he waited and waited, silently dying inside whenever he heard a whimper or felt her press closer against him. He assumed that it was about what Loki had said earlier. Her mother and the organization she was raised by. It really was a shame that not everyone had a mom that had been great like his. No one deserved a mother like the one she was cursed with.

When Hadley shot up in a state of panic he felt like absolute shit. He saw her afraid she looked and reached a hand to touch her arm and instantly saw that it was a mistake when she screamed out in fear. Luckily she quickly realized it was just himbut before he could say anything or apologize she turned and fell back into his arms crying. He immediately wrapped his arms around her stomach and held her close. He understood how awful nightmares could be, lived them practically every day. He kept silence and just let her let it all out. When she finally spoke up he smiled softly. Why was he surprised that she would mention the cat. He figured he was used as a service cat for her which he thought was interesting. He had never thought to get a service animal but maybe he would now because of her. ”I can go get him for you if you want. Or you could talk to me about it if you’re comfortable.” He offered. He wasn’t sure how opened she would be to the idea of talking to him about it especially when they just let each other but he would listen if she wanted to talk.

Hadley looked at Tony, tears brimming her pain-filled eyes. She thought his offer was very sweet and she would love to open up to him but the more that she thought about it, she realized she'd be putting him in danger. This thought terrified her. She didn't want someone else to get hurt because of her. Especially if she could prevent it. She moved to be sitting in front of him, crossing her legs in an indian style. She ran her hands through her curly hair and pulled her hair into a messy bun. She looked at Tony with a soft gaze and opened her mouth and spoke. "Why are you being so nice to me? I thought you were supposed to be an asshole." Hadley teased with a soft giggle. She wanted to change the subject and she hoped he noticed and went along with it. She was ready to have a full conversation with Tony Stark, to truly get to know him. But then Natasha came in and said Nick wanted to talk to everyone in the main room. Hadley just nodded, glancing to the side at the redhead. She turned on her heel, assuming she was going to round up the rest of the group. Hadley looked back over at Tony with a small smile before she stood. She wobbled a little and before she could fall, Tony was there to catch her. Their eyes met and she inhaled shakily. Their faces were inches apart and she felt her eyes drift to his lips. She looked back up at his eyes and for a moment, she thought, she could be happy. If she let him love him and let herself love him. But then her mother's voice broke through her conscious and she pushed herself out of his arms softly. She frowned and walked out of the medical wing, heading down the hall. She held herself and came into the main room, her blue eyes filled with pain. She saw Nick standing in front of the table and Natasha, and Thor sitting at the table. She looked up as Steve and Adelaide walked into the room, looking a little flustered. They sat by each other and Hadley sat at the end of the table once more. She had had her mask off, her beautiful true self shining through. But the thought of letting herself love put her mask back on. She was the monster her mother wanted to create. Isolated, lonely, and sad.

Once Tony sat down, Nick spoke up finally. "These were from Phil Coulson's jacket. Guess he never got you to sign them." Nick said to Steve as she tossed bloody Captain America cards onto the table. Hadley winced, looking away from the bloody cards. Phil had been kind to her. He was a genuinely good guy, he deserved better. "W're dead in the air view. Our communications, the location of the cube, Banner, gone. I got nothing for you. Lost my one good eye. Maybe I had that coming." Nick continued and Hadley glanced over, seeing Tony pick up a card. She saw the guilty look in his eye and it made her heart quench. "Yes, we were going to build an arsenal with the Tesseract. I never put all my chips on that number though cause I was playing something even riskier. There was an idea." Nick said calmly and Hadley looked to Nick as he began to circle the table. Everyone looked grim and she couldn't really blame them. "Stark knows this." Hadley looked at Tony and he looked at her, his brows furrowing. She looked to Nick once more as he continued. "It's called the Avengers Initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, see if they could become something more. See if they could work together when we needed them to. To fight the battles that we never could. Phil Coulson died, still believing in that idea. In heroes." Nick explained and when Nick mentioned Phil, Hadley squeezed her eyes shut and looked to the side. She refused to cry, at least in front of all these people. She would mourn Phil when she was alone. Tony stood, looking very distant and emotionally overwhelmed. He tried to hide it behind a mask but Hadley could see his pain. Tony walked off and she felt the air leave her lungs. She wanted to rush after him but then she thought about it and decided to stay put. "Well, it's an old fashioned notion." Nick said softly and Hadley clenched her jaw, unsure of what to say.

Steve felt a soft gasp escape his lips when she wrapped her legs around his waist. He inhaled sharply, his entire body feeling like it was on fire because of her touch. He had never felt something like this and he never wanted to leave. He wanted to kiss her until he couldn't breathe. He wanted to touch her until his hands went numb. She was extraordinary and Steve would make sure she knew that. Suddenly, he felt his body shoved back. He looked up at Adelaide with half lidded eyes and a small smile. He felt her straddle his hips and he let out a soft groan, his blue eyes shimmering with hunger. He wanted her, all of her. Her body, her mind, her heart. Everything that made her Adelaide. When she grabbed the back of his neck and pulled him up to her, he moved his hands to grip her bum. He gave her bum a soft squeeze with a small chuckle. Their lips met once more, hungry with desire. He moved to sit up fully, her curvy body in his lap. He let his hands wander, his soft pants filled with need. When she moved to kiss his neck, he let out a low growl filled with desire. Before she could continue, Natasha knocked and talked through the door. Steve tried his best not to groan and continue with what they were doing. But, he was a hero. He would rather help Nick save the world. As badly as he wanted and needed Adelaide. Steve listened to Adelaide tell her that they'd be done in a minute. He snickered and leaned up, kissing her neck once more before getting off the bed. He slipped on his shirt with a slight wince. He ran a hand through his hair, wanting it to look less messy. He looked over at Adelaide and offered her his hand, to help her get out of the bed. He assumed she wouldn't continue to hold his hand once they were out of the room. Which made his eyes sadden. He opened the door and walked down the hall, walking into the main room. Thor, Natasha, and Hadley were already there. They all looked grim. He took his seat, Adelaide sitting beside him.

When Nick began to talk, Steve's eyes lifted to the male. The cards were thrown toward Steve and he clenched his jaw, pain in his blue eyes. All happiness from the moments before were gone. He felt nothing but guilt. He picked up one of the bloody cards, his breathing ragged. Nick was trying to guilt trip him and it was working. When Nick continued and finished his speech, Steve looked up to see Tony walk out of the room. Steve just hung his head, trying to blink away the tears in his eyes.

Adelaide was frustrated to say the least, well, annoyed was a more appropriate definition of how she was feeling at the moment. Of course, of fucking course someone would show up just as she was about to get what she wanted. Couldn’t this have waited ten more minutes or twenty minutes? Sure maybe it sounded selfish but she never claimed to be a saint. She continuously said that she was only here for a paycheck, at least that’s what she told herself to keep from feeling like she actually cared. Looking at herself in the mirror she frowned softly. Running her hands to try to tame her hair back down, she straightened her shirt back up. This was about as good as it was going to get right now. Once Steve offered his hand she took it hesitantly, climbing off of the bed. She wasn’t sure why she was so interested in Steve when she hardly knew him but he brought an odd sort of comfort over her that she knew was dangerous. She wasn’t a good person. When he was talking about Tony he had almost described her perfectly. She wasn’t the type of person who allowed herself to lay down on a wire and let someone else climb over so they could live and she wouldn’t. That wasn’t how the young babe was raised. But she would allow herself to feel comforted by him. At least until they left the room and she slowly pulled her hand out of his. Reality was waiting for her.

When the got to the main room Adelaide sat down beside Steve, crossing her legs as she wondered what exactly was going on. Her eyes narrowed in on the bloody cards Nick had thrown their way. Feeling a sense of anger fill her at the way Nick was practically guilt tripping the man beside her she glared silently at the director. Adelaide didn’t entirely think it fair that Nick wanted to make Steve feel bad for Phil’s death. It wasn’t his fault any of this had happened or that Phil had been killed but she understood why Steve was upset. At this point she didn’t care that they weren’t the only people in the room, she bent forward and placed her hand on his knee waiting until he placed his blue eyes on her before speaking up, albeit at a soft whisper. “Don’t let him make you feel guilty like this, Steve. None of this is your fault.”

Hadley’s question surprised Tony, well honestly he should have expected it truth be told. A part of him realizes that she was trying to move on and deflect off of what just happened and he could sympathize with her on that. He normally didn’t like talking about his problems either and on top of that they were practically strangers so he was sure she was even more resistant on spilling her monsters with him. Chuckling he shrugged. ”Believe it or not I’m not always an asshole. I like to think of myself more as a sarcastically blunt man.” People could take it however they wanted but at the end of the day he didn’t care what people thought of him anymore. He tried that with his dad and that really didn’t turn out well. Before they could continue on Natasha showed up and said that Nick wanted to speak to them all in the main room. Tony nodded silently, curious as to what the man wanted now. He watched as Hadley moved to stand and just before the blonde could fall he quickly stood himself and caught her. For a moment they simply stared at her and he wondered what it would be like to kiss her, to take her on extravagant trips and to have her by his side but the moment quickly came to and end when she pushed away from him and walked off. Well. So much for that day dream.

Shaking his head he followed after her. Walking into the main room he looked around. He saw Thor and Natasha already there and soon after Steve and Adelaide came in looking incredibly flustered like they had just been in a middle of a makeout sessionbefore being called here and trust him he would know what a post makeoit session would look like and they both had it written all over them. Sitting down he placed his arms over his chest and looked at Nick. He knew something was wrong, the way the director was standing and had a solemn look on his face as if he had just lost a family member proved it. A part of Tony wished whatever was about to be said wouldn’t be. His eyes narrowed in on the bloody cards on the table, his heart beat slowing down as he assessed what was going on. Phil was dead. Tony has known the man since they were both younger and to find out he was dead was like a stab through the heart. He couldn’t help the sense of guilt that shot through him like a wild fire. He reached forward picking up a card and looking at it. All this and for what? Like Nick said Bruce was gone, they lost the cube, Loki escaped, and now what were they suppose to do? He felt his eyes starting to water and since he was Tony fucking Stark and he wasn’t about to let everyone see him cry he threw the card back down on to the table and stormed off out of the room. He went back to his lab, leaning against a table for a few moments. He didn’t cry. Tony never cried anymore, not since he was younger but oh he wanted to but he just couldn’t. He had better work to do like figuring out where to put a portal up for when Loki’s army comes.

Hadley saw the entire table was tense and she decided to chase after Tony. Despite their differences, he needed someone. And Hadley wanted that someone to be her. She pushed herself out of her chair, glaring at Nick with a certain degree of hate. "Just because you lost a soldier doesn't mean you get to blame us. Tony nearly died fixing the engine and Steve nearly died containing the Hulk. We all did what we could. War means that soldiers die. Grow a pair and realize that just because we're the monsters and the freaks of the world, we will not be your scape goats." Hadley barked at the Director, causing the one eyed man to look at her bewildered. She clenched her jaw and turned on her heel and stormed out of the room. She ran after Tony and eventually caught up to him. She came walking into his lab, the light behind her seeming to make her glow. Her skintight cat suit clung to her curves and her blonde curls bounced. Her blue eyes were filled with countless emotions, namely worry. She came up beside Tony, seeing the pain in his eyes. She wanted to kill Nick for being so cruel to Tony and she wasn't sure why she felt so protective of him. She didn't even realize it yet, but he was her weakness. She reached out and gently brushed his hair from his face and gave him a soft smile. She then turned to the screen he had been looking at. Most of the lab was destroyed from the attack but there was one screen. One screen that could help them find the portal. She moved to stand in front of him, her blue eyes focused. She felt his presence mere inches behind her and she felt her body become tingly from anticipation. She exhaled, forcing herself to focus. She began entering the algorithm but then she frowned. She turned to face Tony, her face inches from his.

"You said Loki needs a stable energy source that would be able to support itself, a whole building?" Hadley thought out loud and then when he agreed, she tapped his forehead with her finger. "What is Stark Tower?" Hadley said and then Tony's eyes went wide. She chuckled softly, kind of proud of herself for finding out where he would be. Tony cursed and then almost immediately used his ear piece to tell everyone to get on a quinjet and that they were going to New York. Hadley smiled at the male and rushed out of the room with him. They ran down the halls, holding each other's hands. She felt an energy surging through her body, one she hadn't felt in so long. Happiness. She watched as the rest of the team boarded the quinjet and Natasha was the pilot. She whipped around to Tony, gripping tightly to his hands. "Take me with you." Hadley said in a warm tone, a beautiful and breathtaking smile on her lips. She saw Tony smile before putting on his mask and picking her up into his arms in bridal style. She let out a scream as he took off of the helicarrier and into the sky. She gripped him tightly, panting as she glanced down. She watched the clouds and the ground below them. She whimpered and gripped tighter onto Tony. She looked behind them, seeing the quinjet following right behind them. She giggled and threw her head back. They arrived in New York shortly and Tony landed at the top of the Stark Tower, Hadley still in his arms. Loki glared at them as they arrived and the machines took of Tony's suit as he walked inside. He still held Hadley close to him, making her blush. Once they got inside, Tony set her down.

Steve looked over at Adelaide when she placed her hand on his knee and whispered to him. He smiled softly at her, tears brimming his blue eyes. He gently placed his hand on top of hers. When Hadley went off on Nick, the male couldn't help but feel what she was saying was true. He blinked and grabbed Adelaide's hand and stood from the table. He guided her away and they came out to a porch of sorts, overlooking the ground and clouds below. Steve ran a hand through his hair and lowered his head, his heart weighing a million tons on his chest. He clenched his jaw, trying his best not to cry in front of Adelaide. He knew she saw it as a weakness. He just needed someone right now. He had lost a soldier, a person he considered to be a friend. A person who admired him, who looked up to him. Steve sniffled and looked back at Adelaide. Just then, Tony said they were going to New York and to get a quinjet ready. Steve looked at the black-haired goddess with a sad smile before walking down the hall and heading toward the quinjets. He needed to get out and fight some bad guys. Get revenge for his fallen soldier. He straightened himself out and he came onto the deck with the quinjets, seeing Natasha was the pilot. He chuckled as Thor kept bothering her and he looked behind him, seeing Adelaide. He let her go onto the quinjet first and then once they were inside, the door closer. Steve frowned and then he saw Stark fly off, with Hadley in his arms. He shook his head with a slight chuckle and he sat back, sitting beside Adelaide.

When Hadley starting laying it on thick on Nick, Adelaide couldn’t help but to agree with the blonde. This wasn’t their fault at all. They had all tried their best to keep this from happening. Hadley went through her past with Loki, Bruce hulked out, Steve fought the Hulk, Adelaide tried keeping Hulk back, and Tony and Hadley helped fix the engine and what was Nick doing? Blaming all of them. Last time she checked Phil willingly became an agent and therefore knew the risks and what could happen to him, they all did so Nick needed to back off. The black haired beauty followed Steve silently, throwing an angry glare the director’s path on their way out. Once they were on the porch she stared at Steve for a moment, her bright blue eyes filled with worry and the wind blowing through her hair. She felt awful, but she wasn’t entirely sure what she could or say so she just sufficed on putting her hand on top of his hand and moving to lay her head on his large shoulder. She hoped her being there was enough to calm him down or at the very least let him know he wasn’t alone. Adelaide had met Phil before but she hadn’t really known the man all like that but the pain she saw in Steve’s eyes made her heart clench painfully. Adelaide decided right rhen and there that she didn’t like that look, that she would rather see him laughing and being playful like earlier over seeing him cry anyday. Not long after Tony was speaking over the intercoms and said they were heading back to New York. Following after Steve she sighed softly before taking in a deep breath. Opening her eyes she put her mask back up. Now wasn’t the time to show emotions. It was time to kick some ass, that she was good at. Climbing onto the quinjet she walked over and sat down, crossing her legs. She felt a little odd sitting next to Steve, as if something had changed between them but she wasn’t entirely sure what that was exactly. It didn’t take long for them to arrive in New York at all and when they did she stood and turned to look at Steve with a smirk. ”Ready to get some bad guys?”

Tony didn’t even bother to look up when he heard footsteps coming this way. He wasn’t really in a talking mood and what he was doing was far more important anyway. In fact he still didnt pay attention until he felt someone running their hands through his hair and his eyes moved from the screen to his side before landing on Hadley, earning a smile in return. He couldn’t help but to give off a fleeting one of his own. What could he say? She had the prettiest smile he had ever seen. He moved to step back some when she moved in front of him to look at the screen. He was still stumped on what building would provide enough energy for Loki’s portal because if they’ve figured that out they could stop him and try to keep it from opening and stopping whatever it is that wanted to come through. The billionaire nodded at her question his eyes slowly widening once she said Avengers tower. Now why hadn’t he thought of that himself? Seems she was smarter than he had previously thought. Telling everyone to get on a quinjet because they were going back to New York. Grabbing Hadley’s hand he raced down the hall, her running right next to him. When they got on the jet he started to reach for his mask, almost positive that Loki was already on his way to the tower himself. Before he could grab it though Hadley grabbed his hand and told him to take her with him. He simply smirked, grabbing his mask and slipped it on before picking her up bridal smile and took off out of the jet and into the sky. Not long after they arrived in New York and they got to Avengers tower. Landing on his platform he saw Loki glaring at them as Tony walked, allowing his machinery to take his suit off as he continued to hold Hadley close to his chest.

Setting down Hadley, Tony walked over to his bar watching Loki. ”Please tell me that you’re gonna appeal to my humanity.” Loki said as he walked towards Tony and Hadley. Tony simply shook his head, seemingly unfazed by this entire situation. This was simply a tactial plan. ”No I’m planning on threatening you.” Tony stated moving to make himself a drink. He watched as Loki pointed his stupid scepter at him and said that he should have left his armour on if he was planning on doing that. Walking down some stairs he shrugged. ”Yeah well you do have the glow stick of destiny. Would you like a drink?” He asked gesturing towards the very large, and very expensive bar. ”Stalling won’t get you anywhere.” Tony put up a finger and raised his brows, wagging his finger as if scolding a child. ”No, no. Not stalling. Threatening.” Of course he was obviously stalling what did Loki take him for an idiot.

Loki shook his head and walked towards one of the many glass windows. ”The chitauri are coming. Nothing will change that.” The Demi-god stated before turning to Tony. ”What have I to fear?” Tony shrugged, taking the top of his alcoholic drink off. ”The Avengers.” At Loki’s confused face he rolled his eyes and continued on. Jesus Loki needed to keep up. ”That’s what we call ourselves. We’re sort of like a team. Earth’s mightiest heroes type thing.” When Loki said that he already met them Tony smiled for a moment before going back to the frown. ”Okay good lets do a headcount here then. Your brother the Demi-god.” He watched and Oko turned away at the mention of Thor, using the distraction to put on two metal bracelets. Tony already had a feeling he knew where this fight would be going. ”A super soldier, one who lives up to his name. A man with breath taking anger management issues. A couple of master assassins, two of which just so happen to have powers as well and you big fella.” He paused to point at Loki. ”Managed to piss them all off.” Walking towards him he lifted a brow when Loki said that was his plan. Well it certainly wasn’t a good plan. ”Well it wasn’t a good one because when they come, and they will, they’ll be coming for you.” Loki scoffed and glared at him as if looking at yet another insufferable human. ”I have an army.” Tony immediately shot back closer to the man now. Hadley looked at Loki with anger in her blue eyes once Tony set her down. She kept her eyes on the God and then Tony started speaking, her blue gaze softening as she looked to the billionaire. As Loki lifted his scepter, Hadley snarled, her eyes changing to black in the blink of an eye. Loki met her gaze and the two bared their teeth like dogs. Their aggression defused once Tony spoke again. Hadley looked at Tony as he went on with the conversation in such a nonchalant kind of way. How could Tony be so calm in a situation like this? The world was at stake. And then she understood what he was doing. He was stalling. So that Natasha could disable the portal. She had to admit, it was a good plan. When Loki and Tony had their little conversation, she smiled softly when he mentioned the Avengers. Hadley truly believed they could be a team. They just needed to get past the initial pissing contest first. Hadley walked over to Tony, standing by the bar. She brushed some loose curls behind her ear as she clenched her jaw. When the two men moved to be mere inches from each other, she tensed. She was ready to jump in between Tony and Loki and take any hit that was aimed for Tony. She wouldn't let anything happen to him. She wasn't sure why. But she needed him by her side. Alive. As the continued to speak, she felt her black glow around her intensify. She didn't mean for it to but her powers were based on her emotions. She was worried for Tony, angry with Loki. She was overwhelmed. When Loki stepped closer to Tony and spoke about the Avengers fighting Tony himself, Hadley gasped. Loki raised his scepter and Hadley raised her hand, pointing about a dozen knives at Loki. Loki pushed the scepter to Tony's chest and Hadley cried out, her eyes changing black. When nothing happened, Hadley panted softly and dropped the knives. The went clattering to the ground as Loki tried again. The scepter clinked on something on Tony's chest. The Arc! She held in a laugh and clenched her jaw, still defensive. When Tony said something snarky, Hadley rolled her eyes. This man was going to get himself killed. Loki grabbed Tony by the throat and tossed him a few feet from him.

Hadley growled and ran at Loki and Loki blocked her hit, narrowing his eyes at her. He grabbed her by the hair, making her scream in pain. He moved to press the scepter to her chest when Loki's attention flew back to Tony. He said to Tony that they would all fall before him. Hadley grunted and moved her core to swing herself and kicked Loki in the jaw. He groaned and flew back and Hadley made herself go into a back flip and she landed in a kneeling position. She looked up, her blue eyes glazing over to pitch black. Loki chuckled and grabbed Tony, throwing him out of the window. Hadley screamed and ran to the window, tears in her blue eyes. Seconds later, a machine came crashing through and went flying down to Tony. She smiled, tears in her eyes. Loki yanked her up by her hair again and she grunted, kicking and punching at him. The God just rolled his eyes. Hadley kicked him in the chest, making him release her hair. The two glared at each other with nothing but hate and anger in their eyes. Hadley shut herself off and was now the monster her mother trained her to be. She screamed, her glow burning bright as her eyes turned black. She moved her hand in a upper cut motion and the knives sprung up from the ground. She grunted and threw them at Loki and he hit away most of them with his scepter. One sliced his cheek and Hadley smirked devilishly. She sprinted at the God and wrapped her legs around his head, tightening her grip and moving her core to flip the God. They both went flying and Hadley went into a roll and landed in a kneeling position once more, panting. She saw the God glare at her with anger and raise his scepter at her. He shot a ball of angry at her and she easily rolled out of the way. She kicked herself off of the wall and when she came down, she punched Loki with all of her strength. Loki stumbled back and held his nose, which was now bleeding. Hadley smirked deeply. Loki screamed and launched at her and knocked her back down onto the ground. She struggled against him, knocking his scepter away from him. She cried out in pain as he twisted her arm. She looked up at him, disgust in her eyes. He spoke about how she had fight and he hated to kill someone with a warrior spirit and she spit in his face. He growled and she moved her legs, kicking him in the ribs. He groaned and got off of her. Hadley panted and stood, stepping back from him. He screamed that he had had enough before raising his scepter. Hadley's eyes widened and Loki shot her with the scepter, sending her flying back and out of the window.

Hadley screamed as she went flying back, beginning to panic. She was terrified of heights and here she was, falling to her death. She groaned, feeling the wind whip her curls around and the pain in her chest, made it hard for her to breathe. She screamed once more, squeezing her eyes shut and hoping she would die quickly. But suddenly, she felt arms wrap around her. Her screaming stopped and she opened her eyes. She saw Tony, or at least his helmet. She sighed and wrapped her arms around him, not knowing whether to kiss him or punch him for being so careless before. Tony set her down on the ground and she panted softly, the pain in her chest quickly healing itself. She looked up at Tony, her blue gaze soft. "Be careful!" She yelled at him as he began to fly away. She couldn't help but smile as he flew away to save the world. She watched Tony shoot down some of the aliens coming through the portal and she felt her heart jump. She hoped he followed her advice. She'd have to kill him otherwise. She heard the entire city go into a state of panic as Tony flew around, shooting the aliens and Thor fought Loki. She watched as the quinjet was also shot down, along with the rest of the team. Luckily, it only took out one engine. They should be safe if they get off before its too late. Hadley then swung around when she hard a growl. An alien launched at her and she kicked him back, throwing a car on top of him and crushing him. She grunted and fought off another alien, punching him and shooting him with a black ball of energy that left a hole in his chest. She fought alone like this for a few minutes until the rest of the team besides Thor, Tony, and Banner, came running in alongside her. Hadley looked up as a huge alien came though the portal, bigger than most buildings. She sighed, alien blood on her suit as well as dirt and dust on her face. She groaned, wondering if this could get any worse.

Steve chuckled at Adelaide's comment and he couldn't help but smile at her. She was stunning. She was so complicated and yet, so simple. "Always." He mused back. Suddenly, the quinjet was thrown off balance and he could tell that they had lost an engine. He stumbled and grabbed Adelaide's waist, pulling her to his muscular body. He gripped the railing with one hands as they went crashing down. Natasha had landed them in a somewhat safe zone and he panted, still gripping tightly to Adelaide. The back of the ship opened and Clint and Natasha jogged out. Steve looked at Adelaide with worry in his blue eyes. "Stick by me, okay? And don't try and play the hero." Steve told her with a soft voice. He gently caressed her cheek with his thumb before jogging out of the quinjet as well. He took off running, toward Stark Tower. "We gotta get back up there." Steve told the rest of the team. He came running up to a bridge and saw Hadley fighting some aliens. He ran up and helped her kill off the last that remained standing and smiled softly at the blonde. He looked back at Adelaide and was glad to see she was right behind him. He then looked up as the giant alien came through the portal with a roar. He rubbed his temples, groaning. He went on the earpiece and asked Tony if he was seeing this. He said he was and then he saw Tony fly toward the alien. The hero chuckled softly and shook his head.

Adelaide simply smiled at him but didn’t get a chance to say anything else the quinjet lost an engine and it was thrown off balance. She stumbled backwards a bit but ultimately didn’t fall over because Steve reached toward and grabbed her and pulled her close to him. Her hands instinctively grabbed at his shoulders and she pressed her curvy body against his, hiding her face in his becknjust in case anything went flying to protect her head. Seems ships just liked losing their engines today. Looking up once they were landed relatively safely, she painted softly. When the ship door opened and Clint and Natasha jogged out Adelaide looked up towards Steve with wide blue eyes. At his statement she scowled softly. She didn’t need him to protect her. She had been fine protecting herself these last few decades so she damn well could do it another day. A part of her wanted to state that she was no hero but frankly this wasnt the time or the place for that. Running off towards Stark tower after them she looked to the portal. Dozens of aliens were spilling out of it. This was going to get messy really soon. Running to the bridge she stood by and watched as Hadley and Steve killed one of the aliens. A loud roar caught her attention and her bright blue eyes darted up to the sky once more, her gaze locking on the giant alien that emerged from the portal. Letting out an annoyed huff she shook her head. She was starting to regret signing up for this. No amount of money was worth all of this. Turning back to Steve she frowned. ”What do you want us all to do?” Someone needed to get to the top of that tower and close the portal but they also needed to deal with that giant alien and the only one she could think of was Banner but he was clearly no where in sight and they had to get everyone out all while fighting off aliens.

Tony continued to walk towards Loki, his eyes narrowing at his words. Growing tired of this he finished down the staircase. ”You’re missing the point of this. There’s no throne! There is no version of this where you come out on top.” The man stated, standing in front of the Demi-god now. His shoulders were tense and his anger was clear in his dark brown eyes. ”Maybe your army comes and maybe it’s to much for us, but it’s all on you. Because maybe we can’t protect the earth but you can be damn sure we’ll avenge it.” Tony explained, taking a long sip of his drink while Loki walked more towards him menancingly. The brown haired man stared at the evil god as he said that they would all be to busy fighting Tony himself. He silently braced himself to be mind controlled, watching Loki press the scepter against him..but nothing happened. His arc was in the way and it took everything in Tony not to laugh. Loki mumbled something about it usually working, seeming genuinely confused so Tony simply shrugged casually. ”Well performance issues, its not uncommon. One out of five-“ he didn’t get to finish because Loki grabbed by the throat and threw him to the floor. Tony moves to stand calling for Jarvis. He blindly watched as Loki and Hadley went at it but it didn’t take long before Loki was back at him, grabbing him by the neck and saying that everyone would fall before him and threw Tony out the window. Acting fast he spreaded out in a t-shape to cause him to fall slower and give his armpit more time to attach to him. Just like he planned the shit came flying out of the building and sailed towards him and in no time attached itself to Tonyms body. He pressed on his blasters just in enough time to keep from crashing and flew back up, seeing Hadley falling out of the window he quickly caught her and held her close to his robotic body. Flying back down to the ground he let her go.

Flying off he started to shoot down any aliens he possibly could. They needed to get that portal closed and fast. He could see Thor and Loki fighting and chuckled flying off. He had a trail of aliens following him but the quinjet everyone else was on started shooting them down until Loki shot them down. Not long after a giant came through the portal with a loud defiant roar. Well that was a big boy. Steve called him over the intercoms asking if he was seeing all of this. Well duh. Tony responded saying that he saw but was having a hard time believing it. Flying beside the beast but in a safe distance away he told Jarvis to find him a soft spot for him to hit. Once he did he flew towards the giant alien and started to hit it which resulted in nothing but pissing it or the thing off. Honestly what were these things? Were they animals or ships? Turning around he flew off towards the group.

The blonde woman exhaled as she saw the aliens approaching. She clenched her jaw before popping a piece of gum into her mouth. She had this routine, anytime she would be getting into a fight she thought could result in her death. Hadley popped her neck, then her back and her knuckled. She even popped her elbows. She pulled her curls into a high ponytail and then pulled two daggers out of her boots, twirling them in her fingers. She smirked as an alien ran at her and she slid in between his legs, slicing the back of his knees as she went. She watched the alien fall to his knees and Hadley came up behind him, growling. She slit his throat and without turning, she kicked the alien behind her with all of her strength. He went flying back and Hadley threw the dagger straight into his chest. She pushed herself into a front flip, pulling her dagger out of the dead alien. She grunted and dodged the alien that swung his spear at her and she went into a back flip, kicking the alien's chin as she did so. She chewed her gum, her blue eyes narrowing in focus. She launched at the alien, slicing his stomach with one dagger then his face with the other. He roared in pain and Hadley kicked him off the edge of the bridge. She laughed softly, her blue eyes shifting to black. She felt the glow around her intensify and she turned her head, seeing Banner approaching them. She crossed her arms over her chest, her cat suit hugging her curvy body. She watched the interaction with Steve and Banner. And then when Tony said he was bringing the party to them, she winced at the thought. That couldn't possibly be good. And then sure enough, it wasn't. Tony came flying around the corner, the giant alien following behind him with a roar. Hadley face palmed and shook her head. She looked up, seeing Banner transform into the Hulk and punch the alien like it was nothing. She felt Clint grab her and pull her behind a car as Tony shot the alien's stomach once it flipped. The stomach exploded and Hadley thanked Clint with a soft smile. He returned the soft smile before he stood. Hadley stood beside Clint and Tony, her arms crossed in front of her chest. When Steve gave everyone in the team their orders, she listened. She watched as Tony took of flying with Clint and as Thor flew away. Hadley nodded as Steve told them that they would be the ones fighting on the ground. Hulk launched off and Hadley couldn't help but smile, watching him destroy the aliens. Hadley turned her head, seeing a group of aliens running at her. She lifted her hands, balls of black energy circling in her palms. She grunted and shot the energy at them, knocking a few off them down. She turned her energy into a whip, her eyes turning black and the glow around her curvy body intensifying. She let out a grunt and cracked her whip around an alien's throat, twisting her hand and breaking his neck. She kicked another alien back as she used her other hand as a cannon of sorts, and shot him with a large energy ball. She snickered, popping a bubble with her gum. This was way too much fun. She forgot how much she loved fighting.

She whipped around as Natasha was thrown onto a ship and she panted softly. She knew she was going up to the tower to try and take down the portal. She also knew Natasha could handle herself. The three woman on the ground were master assassins, after all. Hadley whipped around, blocking a punch coming from an alien. She kicked his knee caps with a hiss and then upper cut his chin. She then used her powers to throw him off of the bridge, a few hundred feet away. She shot an energy ball at an alien that charged at her and she sliced another with her daggers. She fought like this for a few minutes before she felt something press against her back. She turned her head, seeing Tony shooting at aliens. Their backs were pressed to one another and she couldn't help but smile. She did a slicing motion with her energy and cut down about six aliens at once. Tony flew back up and she turned, seeing Steve punch back an alien. Hadley used her powers and tore the alien apart with the grunt, her blue eyes now black. Steve nodded and she just turned and went back to fighting. She jumped onto an alien, wrapping her legs around his head. She hooked her foot into his gun and tossed it off the bridge and then snapped his neck. She kicked off the dead alien and then did a back bend, avoiding getting shot by another alien. She felt a spear slice at her side and she hissed, standing. She tore the alien apart with her powers and looked down at her side as it already worked on stitching itself. Hadley whipped around as Steve told her to stay on the bridge and keep fighting while he and Adelaide saved the civilians. She nodded and then turned, throwing herself on top of a car. She turned her energy into a giant fist and she grunted, making a punching motion on the hood of the car and punched the concrete on the bridge, killing a few dozen aliens. She got shot in the shoulder and she went flying back. She groaned, holding her shoulder as she hid behind the car. She panted softly and peeked around the edge of the car, getting shot at. She pushed herself back against the car and squeezed her eyes shut. Her heart thundered against her chest. She grunted and panted, hearing voices over the earpiece. Tony said there was a nuke heading their way. She went on the earpiece and spoke, "Tony, don't do anything stupid." She panted and then shot energy balls at the aliens approaching her. She killed a few but it didn't look great for her.

Steve panted softly as he looked around. At Adelaide's words, he inhaled. Before he could say anything, he heard growling and turned to see the aliens run at them. He moved into a defensive position and then lunched at an alien, punching him and then knocking him back with his shield. He yelled and hit another alien with his shield, sending him flying over the bridge. He turned to see the rest of the team fighting aliens and he looked up, seeing more coming through the portal. He clenched his jaw. He would save Earth or die trying. He ran to an alien, kicking him off of Adelaide and then punching him in the face. He punched the alien in the stomach and then swung his feet to make the alien fall. Steve growled and raised his shield, decapitating the alien as he brought down his shield with a shout. He kicked another alien in the chest and they fought like this for a few moments, Adelaide at his back. The duo fought as hard as they could, making one hell of a team. He panted once they killed that wave of aliens, dropping his head. Thor flew in, killing three approaching aliens with his lightning bolts. Steve chuckled softly and nodded to the God, glad he was safe. Thor informed Steve that whatever force was around the Tesseract was impenetrable. Steve then came on the earpiece and said Thor was right and that they had to get rid of as many aliens as possible and try to deactivate the portal. Steve thought for a moment, on how to best split up the team to get rid of this situation. The aliens had to be dealt with but the portal was the most important thing. He clenched his jaw. He opened his mouth to begin instructions when he heard a dirt bike engine. Steve turned his head and saw Banner, in his human form. He chuckled softly, glad to see he had come for the fight after all. Steve went on the earpiece to inform Tony that Banner had arrived. Tony then said he was bringing the party to them and that made Steve frown. That couldn't be good. He watched s Tony rounded the corner, with the giant alien following behind him with a roar. Steve couldn't help but snicker at Natasha's comment and he told Banner that it might be a good time for him to get angry. When Bruce said he was always angry and then transformed into the Hulk, Steve had to admit. He was impressed. Hulk turned and punched the giant alien in the face and the alien almost coiled in on itself. The armor fell off his body in ripples as he roared, flipping and exposing his stomach. Tony flew up and shot the alien in his weak spot and Steve turned, pulling Adelaide under his shield as the stomach exploded. The alien fell over the side of the bridge and landed below. Aliens all over began screaming and Hulk let out a scream. Steve stood, Adelaide standing beside him. The Avengers all stood in a circle, ready for battle. When two more of the giant aliens came through, Steve clenched his jaw.

"Alright, listen up. Until we close that portal, our priority is containment. Barton, I want you on that roof, eyes on everything. Call out patterns and take out strays. Stark, you've got perimeter. Anything gets more than three blocks, you turn it back or you turn it to ash." Steve spoke as he turned to the group. Clint asked Tony for a ride and the two flew off together. Steve nodded and then turned to the team once more. "Thor, you gotta try and bottle neck that portal. Slow him down. You got lightning, light the bastards up." Steve said as Thor nodded and flew away, flying straight toward the portal. "Us four, we stay here on the ground, keep the fighting here. And Hulk, smash." Steve added with a small smile. Hulk smiled widely and then launched himself off the ground, attacking some aliens scaling up a building. He looked at the rest of the team. Natasha, Adelaide, Hadley, and himself. He had to admit, they could easily control the aliens from the ground. Steve turned as more aliens came running at them and he looked at Adelaide with a smirk. He ran forward at the aliens and punched through a few with his shield. A few shot their guns at him and he jumped behind his shield before punching one in the face. He jumped and kicked the same alien in the chest and then threw his shield with a grunt, knocking a few off of the bridge. He caught his shield and ducked as a alien swung his spear at the super human man. He pushed himself off of a truck, flipping behind the alien and kicking him in the back, sending him flying into the truck. Steve hit the alien in the face with his shield, panting softly. He spun around and let out a grunt, throwing his shield and hitting an alien that had snuck up behind Adelaide. He chuckled and caught his shield, their eyes meeting. He winked at her and then jumped on top of a car, kicking an alien in the face. He sent the alien flying back and he jumped down, pushing his force into his shield as he shoved a few aliens back. He raised his shield above his head and swung it like a lasso, watching it fly around and knock down aliens. He caught it again and yanked an alien that had been pinning Natasha down off of her and then threw him hundreds of feet away. He helped her up and then hit an alien running at him, panting. Natasha spoke about going up to the tower and that she needed a boost, looking at his shield. Steve exhaled and crouched, putting his shield in a spring position. Natasha jumped on top and Steve grunted, throwing her into the air. She grabbed onto an alien ship flying by and he lost sight of her. He knew she could take care of herself, regardless. Steve panted and watched Tony and Thor destroy aliens as they flew by, same with Hulk.

Tony came flying down to assist with the aliens attacking the bridge, shooting his rays at them. Steve grunted and pushed an alien off of him, punching them back and Tony shot it. Steve watched Hadley and Tony fight together. He seemed surprisingly protective over the blonde woman and Steve had to admit, it was admirable. Steve grunted and pushed forward his shield, Tony using it as a reflector for his rays as they took out at least twelve aliens at once. Tony flew back up again and Steve grunted, punching an alien and watching as Hadley ripped him apart. He nodded to the blonde and then heard Clint go on the earpiece, mentioning a bank that was being held hostage with a bunch of civilians inside. Steve said they were on it and he turned to the two girls. "Hadley, stay here and hold down the bridge. Adelaide and I are gonna go save the civilians." Steve ordered. Hadley simply nodded and Steve clenched his jaw. He looked at Adelaide and then motioned for her to follow him, running in the direction of the bank. As they arrived, Steve kicked threw one of the windows and came up behind an alien, twisting his neck and tossing him to the side. He then caught the punch from another alien and twisted his arm back, pushing back and then kicking him in the chest. "Everyone, clear out!" Steve yelled at the civilians before an alien came up behind him and put him in a choke hold, ripping his mask off his face. Steve grunted, his cropped hair wild and his blue eyes shimmering. He elbowed the alien in the side but he didn't budge. Steve flipped as he saw another alien approaching, using the alien that had been holding him as a shield. He heard a bomb's tick become more accelerated and he went to roll out of the way, grabbing his shield. The alien threw the bomb at him and Steve went flying out of the window. He flew a couple stories down and landed on top of a car. The superhuman groaned and pulled himself off the hood of the car, glass surrounding him. He grunted and saw his vision clouded with black dots. Steve got up, Thor landing beside him. Steve hit away an alien and turned, getting shot in the stomach. The hero cried out in pain and dropped to the concrete, blood on his suit. He hissed, spitting out some blood. Thor helped Steve stand and the man coughed, his torso burning with pain. Natasha came on the earpiece and said she could shut the portal down. Steve commanded her to do it when Tony said for her to wait. Steve frowned deeply and he winced, holding his torso. When Stark said there was a nuke coming, Steve's eyes grew wide and he looked at Adelaide. His heart thundered against his chest and he felt as if his entire world had come crashing down.

Before Steve could give out instructions a growl caught everyone’s attention and Adelaide turned around quickly to see a hoard of aliens coming their way. Taking up a defensive stance, her bright blue eyes narrowing in at the horde. This was going to be fun. Pulling her to katanas out of her boots she lunged at the nearest alien, stabbing it in the head. Grunting she rolled off the dead corpse, slicing at another beast that charged its way towards her before lifting her foot and kicking it harshly in the stomach and watching as it fell over the bridge with a snicker. Looking at the portal she frowned deeply. If they didn’t close that thing then more aliens would just keep spilling out and they would never win. Just then she heard growling a little to close and looked to her left to see a alien not to far from her before it lunged at her. Adelaide’s eyes shifted to an electric blue and she had just enough time to conjure up a rectangular shield to keep the alien from getting to her. She groaned pushing against the shield and trying to reach for her katana that had dropped but it proved to be difficult. Luckily she didn’t need to worry because a few moments later Steve was running towards her and kicked the alien off of her. Sighing, a feeling of relief washing over her, she lowered her shield and stood quickly, grabbing her katana along the way. Before long she and Steve had their backs to each other, taking out aliens together one by one. She had to admit, even if just to herself, that they made a good team. And that he looked absolutely delicious fighting but that was a topic to think about when they weren’t on a battlefield. Once that wave of aliens were killed she lifted a hand and wiped at her nose, a small trail of blood leaking through. Soon after Thor showed up, destroying three aliens and letting them all know that the force around the tesseract was impenetrable which caused the black-haired goddess to frown, one hand landing on her curvy hip. Not exactly the answer she would have hoped for. When the sound of a dirt bike started ringing in her ear she looked up and saw Banner, a laugh leaving her. Seems the big guy hadn’t ditched them after all. A frown lifted her full pink lips when Tony said they were bringing the party to them and then she looked up and saw Tony rounding a corner, the big alien following him. So much for a party. She couldn’t help but to stand back when Steve told Bruce to get angry which caused the doctor to say that he was always angry before turning and changing into the hulk. She watched as Hulk punched the alien and the way it rippled into itself had her chuckling. When Tony started shooting it in the soft spot she moved to hide with Steve behind his shield. No way was she going to get nasty alien guts on her. The alien fell over the large bridge and they all formed into a circle, watching the area around them intently. The fight wasn’t over yet though.

Listening to Steve give out orders Adelaide nodded. She could handle taking out a few aliens. Smirking at the blonde it quickly turned into a scowl when she saw more aliens coming their way. Now it was time to get serious. Dropping her katanas she walked forward her eyes completely turning electric blue and she could feel her powers running through her veins like a wild fire. Conjuring up a shield she dodged some alien gunshots before jumping into the air and kicking at the shield sending it the aliens way. Landing down in a kneeling position she smirked proudly, clenching her hand and making the shield wrap around one of the aliens. Standing she started to swing the captured alien around like a rag doll, using him almost like a bat to knock a lot of the other aliens off of the bridge. Pulling the shield back she morphed it into a large spear, running towards a car and climbing on top. Panting heavily, she looked around. Seeing an alien towards her she narrowed her eyes. Running across the top of the car she jumped at him and swung the spear down impacting it deep into the alien’s chest. Ripping it out she turned and kicked another one, knocking it off the bridge. She felt something fall behind her and turned to see a alien that had been hit with Steve’s shield. When he winked at her she chuckled and blew him a flirtatious kiss. She was definitely going to finish what they had started earlier. What could she say? Seeing a hot guy fighting was a major turn on for her. She watched as Steve threw Natasha into the air, her eyes staying on the redhead until she was out of view. Adelaide knew Natasha could take care of herself. They were all assassins that had been trained for things like this. Well, maybe not exactly this but you got the point.

Adelaide twisted her makeshift spear in her hand, swinging it behind her and stabbing an alien in the stomach before rolling and kicking it in the knee watching as it fell before she drew the spear out and stabbed it in the head. When she heard Clint talk about the bank she paused in her fighting to listen. Nodding her head at Steve’s orders she followed after the large male in the direction of the bank. Jumping threw the window Steve broke through, she clenched her jaw and assessed the situation. Twirling the spear she created out of her shield material she growled like a angry feline and ran towards an alien, slicing at it. When the alien started to swing at her she flipped out of the way, landing on her feet and glaring at the ugly creature. Smirking she jumped spinning in the air and impaling the alien. Looking up her eyes grew wide when she saw Steve being held back by an alien and she worriedly called out his name in panic, realizing then and there that she didn’t want to see him hurt. Before she knew it the man had been flown out of the window by a small bomb. Anger filled her electric eyes and she quickly took care of the two aliens left. Huffing she ran and jumped out of the window, creating a shield under herself to keep from receiving any injuries upon landing. She saw that Steve was in a lot of pain and looked towards his stomach, her blue eyes glossing over with silent worry but she knew that right now wasn’t the time to dote over him, especially with everyone else around. When Natasha said she had a way to close the portal Adelaide sighed happily, glad this could all be finally over. Or so she thought. Not soon after Tony told them to wait because he had a nuke coming. Glancing towards Steve she shook her head and looked towards the sky. ”What the hell are you doing Stark?” Did the man particularly have a death wish because that’s what it seemed like.

When Steve said that Banner was back Tony simply smirked inside his suit. ”Good because I’m bringing the party to you.” He stayed, flying off and towards the group. It didn’t take long before he was rounding the corner to the street they were all on, the largest alien hot on his tail. He knew that Bruce, or rather the hulk, would be able to take the big boy so here they were. Once he was close enough he flew out of the way and let Hulk do his work. Staying in the air he advised everyone to step back and raised his hands and blasted at the alien’s soft spot, effectively killing it but also making it explode. The party wasn’t over yet though. He flew down to the ground and stood right next to Hadley as the Avengers all lined up in a circle surveying the area. They were all ready to fight and fight they would. Two more aliens came through the portal and the billionaire refrained from groaning. Of course. Kill one and two more appear. Just their luck. Listening to Steve talk Tony nodded his head. Now that he could definitely do. Grabbing on to Clint he flew off in a hurry. They had a planet to save. Dropping the man off on top of a very high rooftop he asked Barton to keep him posted on anything. Flying off he got to work. He shot at any and all aliens he saw, making sure to keep them from leaving out of the perimeter Cap had set for him. Normally he didn’t take orders but like he told Hadley, he wasn’t always an asshole. He wasn’t really an asshole to begin with just a sarcastic blunt man. As he flew a few aliens were hot on his tail and he asked Barton for any ideas. The older man suggested a tight corner. So Tony being Tony said that he would Rodger that as he looked around. Finding an underground tunnel he flew towards that, the aliens quickly following him. He flew in every direction possible and once they got out of the tunnel he flew towards a building before making a tight turn, the aliens crashing and blowing up. Satisfied with his work he asked what else Barton had for him and when he said there was a fight on sixth street and Tony simply looked at the screen and as sarcastically hurt as he could muster blankly said, ”And you didn’t invite me?” As he flew off towards where the rest of the group were.

Once there he fought hard with Steve before flying off, suiting at a bunch of aliens on the side of the building. When the man commanded Natasha to close up the portal Tony quickly intervened. Of course Steve asked what he was doing so the genius explained that he had a nuke coming in that would go off in less than a minute. Tony ignored Hadley’s statement. What he was about to do was not only stupid but also incredibly life threatening as well but like he said to Loki. They were all willing to do anything to win. Maybe if he did survive this it would show Steve that he was the type of guy to lay his life on the line to ensure everyone else survived. After he spotted his nuke he flew up under it and grabbed it, flying off towards the portal and even using the side of Avengers tower as a slide almost and headed straight into the portal. Almost immediately he started to run out of breath and lost grip over the nuke watching as it went sailing towards a large ship and once it hit it exploded. Before long he slipped into unconsciousness and started falling.

Hadley grunted, trying to come out from behind the car but one of the aliens shot her in the arm. She was surrounded and she was trapped. She felt tears brim her eyes as she winced in pain, blood soaking through her suit. She looked up toward the sky with a shaky breath, a loose curl falling over her face. She watched Tony grab the Nuke and ignore her words as he began to fly toward the portal. She cursed under her breath and shot up, shooting down three aliens with energy. They fell but the aliens continued to shoot at her. She panted heavily, closing her eyes. She squeezed them shut, wishing for some kind of miracle that she and Tony could make it out of this alive. She wasn't sure she wished for Tony's safety as well but... it became second nature to her. She rolled open her eyes, thinking he would just release the nuke into the portal. Her heart sank to her feet as she watched Tony fly through the portal. She felt the tears stream down her cheeks. He had no oxygen, he would die! How crazy was this man? She panted and jumped up, hitting the aliens with a wave of energy and a shout, making them crumble to nothingness. She panted and looked up, wincing as the blood from her arm ran down her arm and was now dripping from her fingertips. She was hopeful. Then, she heard the bomb explode on the other side of the portal. She covered her mouth, worry and fear in her blue eyes. He had to come back through, right? She whimpered, holding her hands to her chest. When Tony came back through the portal and that Natasha had finally closed it, she breathed a sigh of relief. She hadn't even noticed all the other aliens had fallen because of the mother ship being destroyed by the nuke. But then, she saw that Tony was falling. She let out a cry and moved to somehow sprint forward and save him but Clint grabbed her and held her still. She kicked and screamed, crying as she did so. She panted, watching all the other Avengers come running up and Thor began to swing his hammer, ready to fly up to get Tony.

Hulk came out of nowhere and snatched Tony from the sky, dragging down buildings to slow down their speed and their impact. He came down on the bridge with a loud boom and he set Tony down on the ground with a huff. Hadley grunted and shoved Clint off of her, running to Tony. She cried, brushing her loose curls behind her ear as she took in shaky breaths. She ripped his mask off and saw that his eyes were closed and his face was dirty. She whimpered, fear replacing the worry in her blue eyes. "Tony, wake up. You can't be dead. Please." Hadley whispered as she exhaled shakily. She brushed his dark locks from his face and the pain in her bleeding arm seemed almost non-existent now. She caressed his cheeks and cried, her soft tears falling down on his cheeks. She felt like she couldn't breath. She wasn't sure why or how she felt this way, but she needed Tony to live. She needed him in her life.

Steve grunted and stumbled into a car, his stomach bleeding. His wound from earlier had been opened back up and had also been replaced by a blast from the alien's gun. He looked up toward the sky, a pained expression in his blue eyes. He watched Adelaide walk over to help him and he accepted her help. He watched Tony fly toward the portal with the nuke and he felt his heart drop. "That idiot is gonna get himself killed." Steve said and watched as Tony flew through the portal. His head dropped, shaking his head. He regretting all the mean things he had said to tony earlier, about him not being self-sacrificing. He felt as if Tony was trying to prove a point, now. He began to walk back toward the bridge, wincing as he did so. He knew Hadley was there and knew that if she needed help, he would fight until his dying breath. He panted softly and watched Clint holding back Hadley on the bridge and he frowned out of confusion. Then he looked up and saw Tony falling to the ground. Clint didn't want Hadley putting herself in unnecessary harms way. He looked to his right, seeing Thor swing his hammer, ready to fly and catch Tony when Hulk came in out of nowhere. He grabbed Tony out of the sky and began to dig down buildings, hoping to slow himself and the impact. Hulk landed with Tony and set him down and Steve watched Hadley cry for Tony and he grabbed Adelaide's hand, purely out of instinct. He clenched his jaw, pain in his eyes. He couldn't imagine the pain Hadley was feeling.

Adelaide gripped Steve’s hand tightly and helped move him to stand on his feet. Looking back up towards the sky she frowned deeply watching Stark’s retreating figure. ”He can’t be that dumb can he? He knows that he won’t be able to prove up there.” Bt seems she was ultimately wrong because Tony flew right into the portal with the nuke and she sucked in a breath and stared for a few moments. Was he trying to prove something here? That he was actually a good guy? Adelaide was starting to think he wasn’t as smart as he looked or was perceived as. Starting to walk back she kept her eyes on the portal for a few moments before turning to walk with Steve to the bridge. There she saw Hadley being held down by Clint while she was thrashing and squirming to be let go. Curiously she followed the blonde’s gaze back to the sky. Tony was falling back down to earth and for a moment she assumed he was fine until she realized he wasn’t flying. ”Guy’s he isn’t moving.” Thor caught the hint and started to swing his hammer in order to fly up and save the man from crashing to his death. However before he could Hulk launched out from no where and caught Tony while he was still in the air and began sliding down buildings to get to the ground. They all crowded around Tony and watched as Hadley cried and begged for him to wake up. She felt Steve grab her hand and she swallowed thickly, tensing up for a moment before relaxing and returning the hold. Adelaide didn’t know why but she knew that if the roles were reversed she would probably be the one bending over and crying for Steve to wake up too and that honestly scared her. The last time she had cared for someone this much he had betrayed her and left her like she was trash. Their fingers interlocked and she threw a quick glance his way, her blue eyes seemingly innocent in a way before she darted her gaze back to Tony.

Tony had known even before he went into the portal that there would be a high chance of him dying but he had been willing to take that chance and he felt it was worth it when he saw the space craft controlling all the aliens blow up and realized that it was over. He had slowly lost breath and the pressure caused him to pass out as he slowly fell back at first but once he was through the portal gravity struck and he started to descend even quicker than before. He still wasn’t aware of anything going on. He didn’t feel Hulk catching him and bringing him down safely, he didn’t feel or hear Hadley crying over him. What did manage to wake him up though was Hulk slamming his fists down and roaring near them. He shot awake harshly and he jolted up and looked around frantically for a moment before calming down. His brown eyes landed on Hadley and he smirked for a moment once he saw how much she was leaning over him as if protecting him. She actually did care despite what she might act like. ”What no true love kiss?”

Hadley cried out in surprise when Hulk roared and Tony jolted upward as he woke. She laughed softly, happiness instead of fear in her blue eyes. Then the anger set in her frown. Tony was an idiot! He had nearly died, all because he wanted to prove himself to Steve. She clenched her jaw at his words and before he could blink, her hand came across Tony's cheek in a harsh slap. She shoved his head off of her lap and stood, cursing under her breath. She shook her head and moved to storm off, her hips swinging. Hulk made a confused expression before following after the angry woman. Hadley mumbled under her breath, calling Tony an idiot and saying he was so stupid and needed to think before he did such a thing. Hulk walked beside her, his large shadow casting over her and making her nearly disappear from beside him. She grabbed onto a pillar from a building and pulled herself up the pillar and sat on the ledge. She sniffled, wiping the tears from her eyes. Hulk looked at her, his angry demeanor gone. He shifted back into Banner and Hadley grabbed his hand, helping him up so he could sit beside her. They sat in silence while Hadley sniffled. She let her hair down from her bun and held her bleeding arm with a wince. Hadley watched the rubble and saw the people of New York slowly come out into the open. She still had a view of the bridge and the other Avengers. People began to come out and started clapping and cheering, approaching the heroes on the bridge. She sniffled and lowered her head. She guessed they probably didn't see her but her mother's influence over her confidence convinced her that they could never cheer for a monster like her. Hadley clenched her jaw and her blue gaze lifted as she looked Tony. He was soaking all of the attention up and it made her roll her eyes. Bruce gave her a look, understanding her pain.

"You care about him, don't you?" Bruce finally spoke up and Hadley scoffed, tossing a pebble to the ground below them. "I get it, you don't want to get attached. You're afraid you're going to hurt him one day." Bruce continued and Hadley glanced over at him, a frown on her brow. How did he know exactly why she was afraid to love? Then again, the more she thought about, the more it made sense. He was a monster, just like her. He could easily kill someone he loved, just like her. She sniffled and looked down at her hands, picking at the dry blood on her hands. "I'm a monster. And he may be a narcissistic playboy billionaire but he doesn't deserve the pain I would bring him." Hadley said in a grim tone, her blue eyes watching Tony smile and take pictures with fans, like he didn't almost die. Bruce smiled sadly at the blonde next to him. Hadley continued to pick at the blood on her hands, a sour expression on her face. Hadley finally decided she had had enough of the emotions she was shoving down. She jumped down from the pillar and clenched her jaw. She glanced toward the group, her blue gaze meeting Tony's. She pulled her hood over her face and shoved her hands in her pockets, walking off down the street. She stepped over rubble and dead aliens, not seeming to pay them any mind. Bruce climbed down and turned his head as he saw Tony come jogging up, trying to catch up with Hadley. Bruce stopped him, putting his hand on the billionaire's chest. "Tony, I wouldn't. She needs to be alone right now." Bruce spoke chasing after the blonde. Bruce sighed. As Hadley walked, she grabbed the cigarettes from her boots and sparked her lighter, lighting one up. She inhaled the smoke as she shoved her lighter back in her pocket. She took another deep inhale before exhaling slowly, kicking at some rocks as she walked. She turned her head to see Tony jog up beside her and she rolled her eyes. "Tony, can you just leave me alone? I thought you got the message." Hadley scoffed and inhaled from the cigarette once more. She scratched her head, pain in her blue eyes. She laughed with a shake of her head when Tony moved to stand in front of her, blocking her from walking away. She inhaled the smoke once more and tapped her foot impatiently, letting the smoke come out of her nose as she looked up at Tony.

Steve sensed Adelaide tense before returning his grasp on her hand. His blue eyes glanced her way, nothing sinister in his eyes. He just held adoration for the woman beside him. He wasn't sure if it was because he could tell she was a damaged soul and he felt the need to help her heal or if it was some other unknown reason. He clenched his jaw and looked back at Hadley and Tony. He felt his heart quench for the blonde woman. When Hulk slammed his fists down and roared, Steve jumped a bit. Tony shot awake and Steve chuckled softly, shaking his head. His eyes then grew wide when Hadley slapped him as hard as she did. He winced, seeing Tony's dazed expression as the femme stormed away. He watched the Hulk follow after her and his eyes lit up with curiosity. He then turned his head to Tony and helped him stand, patting his back. "You truly are an idiot, Stark." Steve joked with a smile. He looked back at Adelaide with sparkling blue eyes. He was covered in blood and bruises and cuts but he still wanted to see she was alright. He winced, trying his best to ignore the wound on his stomach. He approached her and looked her over, his blue eyes worried. "How are you feeling? They didn't get you, did they?" Steve asked in a gentle tone, his thumb gently touching her cheek. He saw that she was covered in dirt for the most part but he couldn't see any wounds. Steve blinked, not caring if the team was around them. He cared for Adelaide, even in this short amount of time. She was so complicated yet so simple. He wanted to know everything about her. What made her smile, how she liked her eggs, which side of the bed she slept on, all of it. He needed to know anything and everything. He wanted her. He needed her.

A crowd began to gather around the group and Steve turned his head, watching people emerge as they clapped their hands. He chuckled softly. He had to admit, he wasn't expecting this. He saw people rush to Thor and Tony and even Clint and Natasha. He chuckled as a few people came up to him, covered in dirt and thanked him for saving their lives. He stood by Adelaide and smiled. "That's what the Avengers do." Steve said and then looked at Adelaide with a sparkle in his eye. He turned his ehad to see Tony soaking up the attention. Girls were all over him and flirting and giggling. He saw the sour expression on Hadley's face as she watched this. He frowned. Tony was a tool sometimes. Steve grumbled and then turned his head to Adelaide, a goofy grin on his face as she tried to ignore the pain in his stomach. "Are you hungry? Cause I'm starving."

Adelaide hardly even winced when Hadley slapped the hell out of Tony. Let’s be honest he probably deserved it after risking his life and then trying to make a kissing joke. She honestly probably would have done the same if she was in the blonde’s position. Dropping her hand out of Steve’s grip she watched him walk over to Tony, her arms moving to wrap around herself as she tried to tell herself that holding hands and flirting with Steve didn’t mean anything. That she was just trying to sleep with him and would be done with him afterwards like all of her other one night stands, but deep down she knew that wasn’t true. She knew she cared for him and that she wanted to get to know him better and it honestly scared her. The goddess hardly even knew the soldier and already she felt like she would risk her life for him. Shaking her head she sighed softly, her brows furrowing deeply. As much as she wanted Steve and wanted to believe he was a good guy who wouldn’t hurt her she couldnt risk it.

Tucking a long piece of hair behind her ear she looked up when she saw Steve coming back her direction. When he asked if she was alright or hurt in anyway she instinctly leaned her head against his hand, one of her own gently grasping his waist while the other grabbed his hand. Right now she didn’t really care that they had the team around them. She was going to enjoy this until she forced herself to move on from Steve as painful as she could already tell it would be. ”Funny I should be asking you that since you’re the one who got his wound reopened. I’ll have you know that I spent some good time closing that up.” Adelaide was good at deflecting questions about her health. She didn’t like to admit when she was in pain, she could still hear her trainers voice telling her that pain was a weakness that your enemies would use against you so she just kept quiet. Her interest peaked when she saw a crowd of people coming their way, her brows furrowing in confusion. When they all started clapping and saying how they were heroes that saved their lives she huffed softly and looked away. She wasn’t a hero. She only did this for the money and the only reason she was still here was because she wanted to have sex with Steve. That’s what she kept telling herself. Adelaide saw Hadley storm off and frowned throwing her attention towards Tony’s way and saw him entertaining a bunch of girls. Rolling her eyes she crossed her arms over her chest. Classic playboy, she wasn’t even surprised. Looking back towards Steve she chuckled at his question. Only he would think about food at a time like this when he had a cut on his stomach and was covered in dirt and blood.

”Yeah I could eat. Come on my place actually isn’t that far from here.” She was actually starving since she hadn’t eaten since that morning before getting on the ship and fighting and using her shields always took a lot of energy out of her, especially with the serum boosting her metabolism. Grabbing his hand she started to lead him down the street quietly. Thankfully it wasn’t to damaged everywhere so she was sure her apartment building was still in tact. It didn’t take very long to get there either, only about five minutes but when she was with him she didn’t mind the walk or the quiet. It was calming in a way and they all knew they needed some peace and quiet after what just happened. Getting to her building she buzzed herself in. Normally she would have changed out of her clothes by now because of the whole secret agent thing but she was sure that they would be all over the news tomorrow along with their faces and the city had been evacuated so she didn’t see the point. Before long they got to her apartment and she let him. It really wasn’t all that extravagant, simple really just mostly black and white coloring. ”Make yourself comfortable.” Adelaide offered, crossing into the kitchen and opening her fridge and looking for some food. Looks like they would be having some lasagna. Putting some in the microwave she stood by it and waited for it to heat up before taking it out and taking it to the table he had sat down at. ”Hope you like pasta.” She mused, sitting down next to him and giving him his plate.

Tony wasn’t entirely sure what he had been expected after his little joke. A laugh, her rolling her eyes in annoyance even, but a slap? That was not expected. He stared off into the distance for a moment, his eyes wide and blinking slowly as he cheek stung painfully from the slap and all he let out was a tiny little ‘ow.’ Well that certainly could have gone better. Maybe it had been a wrong time for a joke but he hadn’t thought she would take it so negatively! This was just Tony’s personality, he likes to lighten up the mood. Taking Steve’s hand he stood and huffed at the blonde’s words. ”C’mon it was just a joke.” He stated with a frown, watching Hadley walk off with Hulk following after her. He didn’t know why but he didn’t want those two alone together. Tony could tell that Bruce liked her but Tony also liked her and he would be damned if Bruce got her before he had the chance to. Shaking his head he looked up when he heard clapping and saw a large crowd around them and he smiled brightly. Show time. He had to bring his playboy side back out again. When a group of women came his way and starting flirting with him he couldn’t help but to feel his ego swell. It felt nice knowing you could go out and have fun without the fear of commitment glooming over your head. He didn’t want to get to attached to someone and only end up being betrayed so he was a playboy and always had some new hot model on his arm for every event he went to. He could never be tied downnit seems but maybe if he met the right girl she could get him to.

When the group of girls left after managing to get a picture with him and gossiping to each other on how handsome he was he chuckled and looked around for Hadley before he spotted her walking off even more. Groaning he started off on a jog to go catch up with her. Before he could Bruce got in his way and told him that she should be left alone to cool down. Yeah like he was going to listen that. Moving around the scientist he went back into his jog and before long he caught up with her. When she made her comment on him leaving her alone he simply shook his head. Not going to happen. Going a bit faster he got in front of her and blocked her from moving anymore. ”You see I would if you hadn’t of been the one to have my head in your lap and if you hadn’t of been the one who raced after me after me to see if I was okay after Nick told us about Phil.” She cared about him even if she didn’t want to admit it to herself.

Hadley clenched her jaw as Tony spoke, saying he knew she cared for him. She scoffed and shook her head, rubbing her temples. She mumbled about how she couldn't believe this was happening and she pursed her lips. She laughed softly, thinking he was so naive. Didn't he see how dangerous she was? Why was he doing all of this hard work if he just wanted to get inside of her pants? Was the chase that important to a man like Tony? He must have a pretty miserable life if he wants to chase around some monster mutant girl. She took a deep inhale from her cigarette, looking down at the ground. She kicked at some of the rubble and exhaled slowly. She watched the smoke dance up and into the sky before disappearing. She looked back at Tony, emotions swimming in her blue eyes. Anger, worry, fear. She sighed and shook her head. "Why don't you go back to those girls that were fawning all over you? They seemed like your type. Dumb and beautiful." Hadley barked and took another deep inhale from her cigarette. She moved to walk past him, shoving herself into his shoulder. She grumbled about how he was nothing but a play boy as she exhaled the smoke. She felt her heart clench. She knew this wouldn't be the last time she saw Tony but she knew he didn't deserve this kind of hostility. But, it was the only way to protect him in her mind. She clenched her jaw and stomped out her cigarette before whipping around to face Tony once more. "Why are you putting this much hard work into trying to get close to me when once you sleep with me and get what you want, you're just gonna toss me to the side and forget I even exist?" Hadley hissed with tears in her blue eyes as she panted softly. She exhaled shakily and brushed the curls from her face, trying to contain herself. She wanted to scream at Tony, for him to leave her alone. For him to leave before either of them actually got attached. She clenched her jaw and looked up at Tony with tears in her blue eyes. "You don't have to pretend, Tony. Just leave. Leave before either of us get hurt." Hadley said with a crack in her voice.

Steve smiled as she laughed at his question, clearly amused by the male. He let her grab his hand and as she began to lead him away, he couldn't help but feel his heart flutter. He wasn't sure why but he felt so vulnerable with her. It was like having a teenage crush all over again. It made him feel silly to be reacting in such a way. He was thirty! Steve pursed his lips and tried his best to hide his blush on his cheeks. They walked in silence but there was a certain comfort there. He wasn't sure what it was but he shyly looked at his feet as he kicked some of the rubble. He was never a ladies man and to have such a beautiful woman interested in him really boggled his mind. He decided not to jinx it thought, and followed her inside as she buzzed herself in. He followed her up some stairs and walked inside as she let him in first. He looked around curiously and was pretty impressed. He expected a dungeon, if he was being honest. Steve looked over at Adelaide as she told him to make himself comfortable. He nodded and wandered over to the couch, sitting down with a soft grunt. He leaned back, wanting to air out his wound instead of staying scrunched up. He winced, trying to hide his pain. He looked up, his eyes sparkling as she walked up with a plate of lasagna. He chuckled softly and accepted the plate. "I love lasagna." He said softly.

Adelaide smiled brightly, sitting down on the large couch next to him and crossing her legs in a pretzel formation. ”Good because it’s literally the only cooked thing I have.” She stated, leaning back into the soft fluffy pillows with a sigh. Adelaide wasn’t really much of a cook, hardly cooked at all or kept her fridge stocked. In fact she didn’t even make the lasagna, her new neighbor made her some as a ‘Welcome to the building’ type thing. It was good though and she was never one to turn down free food. Taking a bite out of the warm food she hummed happily. Nothing better than kicking ass and then rewarding yourself with delicious lasagna. Lifting a hand up she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and threw a glance at him. Her stomach flipped slightly and she looked back down to her food with a soft frown. It was weird. She felt all tingly and weird around him and it felt like she had butterflies in her stomach and she didn’t particularly like it. Adelaide wasn’t going to let herself fall for him. It was already a big risk even bringing him here and wanting to sleep with him in the first place because then if he got attached and was upset about her not wanting to be with him or something it would make working with him awkward, and she would feel like an asshole. Huffing softly she shoved another piece of lasagna into her mouth to try and regain her thought process. She didn’t get why she cared about his feelings before. She had slept with a lot of men and women before and left them the next morning and didn’t care if they were hurt or not but with Steve? It was different and she didn’t oarticulalr want to hurt his feelings but let’s be honest here all men were the same. All they wanted was sex and then would leave once they got bored so she didn’t feel bad doing the same. Looking him over again her eyes landed on his stomach. ”You know I’m going to have to stitch that up again right?” She pouted with a sigh, shaking her head dramatically. Tossing her hair over her shoulders she smirked at him. ”Just went and ruined all my hard work.” The sentence may seem like annoyance but the way she said it was phrased in a way to show that she was only teasing. Well, sort of. She didn’t fix him up, start making out with him only for him to reopen it. That wasn’t really in the plan but hey if it meant she got to see him shirtless again it was a win in her book.

Tony simply raised an eyebrow at her when she brought up the girls who had been fawning over him. Could she really blame them? One he was handsome, and secondly they had all saved the world so of course there would be a bunch of girls who would be fawning over him. For instances like this he always looked at it like they didn’t like him but they liked what he did for them. It was like if you pushed someone out of the way of a car and let yourself get hit and then the person wants to date you. Theh aren’t with you because they like you, they’re with you because of what you did. After she shoved past him he turned and stared at her. He wasn’t really use to women not falling at his feet whether that was because they wanted to have sex or simply thought they would have a chance of being with him so this was weird for him in a way. ”You know it’s kind of rude for you to just assume that they’re dumb because they’re interested in me. For all you know one of them could be a top graduate from Harvard.” He sassed, standing up straighter and looking at her. He was a lady’s man but he wasn’t an ass to the girls he slept with. He never called them out of their names, never publicly ridiculed them or anything of the sort. Sure some might think it was wrong for him to sleep with so many but at this point they played a hand a well because all of them knew of his title and therefore knew what they were getting into. At her next statement he tilted his head slightly to the right, eyes narrowing as if trying to get a good look on her. ”I mean it would be kind of hard for me to just forget you exist if we’re on the same team.” He pointed out as if her logic was flawed somehow. Placing his hands on his hips he frowned at her. He was sure they probably looked ridiculous standing in the middle of a park almost arguing, well, more like her trying to get him to leave and him refusing. Looking up at the sky he hummed. ”See if I only wanted to fuck you I would have invited you to my house already.” Tony wasn’t use to the chase so this was honestly fun for him.

Hadley scoffed at all of his answers to her questions and statements. She placed her hands on her hips and shook her head. She looked down with a soft laugh, not believing that he was still so deflective. She sucked in a breath harshly and lifted her head, her blue eyes filled with a fire. She stepped closer to Tony, her blue eyes slits. "You know, most people might think your whole deflective and snarky attitude is cute. But I don't. It just proves that you can't take anything seriously, Tony. You're nothing but a child with billions of dollars and an empire that no one can share with you because you shut out anyone who ever cared about you" Hadley said with a harsh tone, her words like acid in her mouth. She truly did get annoyed by his answers to her statements. She found his attitude aggravating and childish. She put her hands back on her hips as she moved to walk away from him. She scoffed and turned to face him once more, a few feet from him. "You know, your answers show exactly what kind of person you are. You are responding to me as if I'm dumb." Hadley began, placing her hands on her chest and then shook her head with a smile that was not at all friendly. "You deflect and deflect until everyone leaves because you are so damn afraid of letting someone all the way in. You brush it off, convincing yourself that you don't need people in your life but in all reality, when you get home and are alone in that big building and in that empty bed every morning and night, it catches up to you. You are so afraid of being alone but that's what you're left with at the end of the day." Hadley scoffed as she threw her hands up.

Hadley clenched her jaw and folded her arms across her chest as she watched Tony walk closer to her. She narrowed her eyes at him at his harsh words and she got the urge to punch him in the face, give him a taste of what his words felt like to her heart. She lifted her chin and listened to his words, making sure to keep an expressionless face. She didn't want him to actually think he was hurting her. She knew he would blow up on her. She just needed to give him a little push. And that push would save him from her and he could be safe. She swallowed the lump in her throat as their eyes met. "Good, Tony. Bite back, push me away. This mask you put on has rooted itself in your heart and soul so deeply that you've convinced yourself that this is how you are now. And because of that, you can't have me. I need a person, someone real. Not a mask. And I know you just want to sleep with me, it's so obvious. I'm nothing but a notch on your belt, Tony. Mutant Monster, check." At the last words she spoke, her voice cracked and she sniffled, looking away as tears brimmed her eyes.

Steve began to eat the lasagna, sending glancing toward the black-haired goddess every now and then. He noticed her kind of freeze, as if she was in thought. He frowned softly but his face softened once she started eating again. He wanted to know what had come across her mind but he decided to leave it be. He had to admit, the lasagna was delicious. He loved every bite and he wanted more but he didn't want to eat all of her food. He set down his plate on the table with a wince before sitting back once more. He looked over at the beauty beside him as she spoke and he chuckled. He looked down before looking back up at her, a twinkle in his eye. He noticed her smirk and couldn't help but feel allured to her. The way her lips curled into that smirk of hers. He wondered what her lips would look like around his-

Steve cleared his throat and chuckled lowly, shrugging. He moved to stand and he stripped off his shirt, blood covering his shirt and his stomach. The gash was much bigger now and blood ran down his torso. He winced and ran a hand through his hair. He looked down at her, trying not to smirk. "So you didn't want to see me shirtless again?" Steve mused, throwing his shirt at her. He snickered and moved to lay down on the couch, putting his hands behind his head. He smirked up at her, a heated gaze in his blue eyes.
