[ hawkpaw ] [ marbled tabby bengal mix with milky blue blind eyes ] [ six moons ] [ male ] [ trad. windclan mca ]

upon entering apprenticeship, hawkpaw's head had become flooded with thoughts. on one paw, he felt the path of a medic was better suited for him and he no longer felt concern as to how he would manage in battle as he would be spending most of his time in the medicine den treating the aftermath instead. on the other, training to be a medicine cat wasn't a role to take lightly and he never imagined such a responsibility upon his shoulders.

padding through the darkness of his world to the fresh-kill pile, his nose led him to pick a rabbit from the heap. he only took what he needed in the unforgiving moons of leaf-bare to do his part in ensuring that the queens and kits didn't go hungry. a shiver coursing through his lithe frame, the winds of the moor had turned bitingly cold leaving hawkpaw no longer able to bask in the sun's comforting rays.

"ugh, wake me up when it's new-leaf." he remarked, his mumbling a cloud of frozen fog drifting from his tabby maw.

The small white kit, blending into the snow padded towards the fresh-kill pile. Her fur bristled against a blow wave of wind, her eyes closed against the sharp frozen pieces of snow. She looked up at the fresh-kill pile and saw the blind mca. She smiled. She liked the cat very much! The kitten would become an apprentice in new-leaf, but now she was to be here for the winter. “Hey! Me too! I wanna skip the time so I can help the clan!” the kit squeaked, touching the tom with her tail for him to know she’s there. Of course he could hear her, but she didn’t want to confuse him. She sat down by him! Taking a mouse a tapping it a bit.

  • Mouse had felt the chill. It was really not ideal for her...considering she was going to have babies. Of course, she'd only told Flint and Eaglespirit so far. It wasn't like she was expressing to everybody that she was pregnant with a loner. How could she admit such a thing? Of course, a trained medicine cat would certainly see the developing signs. Her stomach was expanding and she had the faint smell of milk surrounding her, as it began to come in. She was about two weeks away from giving birth...any cat who'd been around an expecting queen could guess by now.

But she continued doing warrior duties. She really didn't understand that she should retire. One had to remember that Mouse had never really had a mother. Nor had she been aroudn queens. Hell, the kittens that she'd grown up with? Half of them didn't even make it to adulthood. She didn't know what a pregnant cat was supposed to do. She didn't know how to give birth or raise kittens. What was she going to do?

Sighing, she put on a brave face, stepping out into the cold. Shivering, she made her way over toward Hawkpaw and Diamondkit. She gave them a strained smile, nodding in their direction. "I imagine herb hunting is going to be difficult now. I already know the prey disappears...but I know nothing about the herbs. I've...never been around medicine cats before."

  • ✦ ✧ ✦ fortunately for the apprentice, Talonpaw was well equipped for the cold weather with her thick, fluffy coat, something she enjoyed quite a bit when the temperatures dropped this low during leaf bare. though her breath still formed a cloud as she exhaled, the young blue and white tabby she-cat was mostly unaffected as she made her way out of the apprentices' den and out into the camp. sniffling softly and wincing slightly at the familiar sting of the cold on her ears, nose, and paw pads, Talonpaw quickly grew used to it. it was all likely due to her mixed clan heritage producing some odd traits not typical of WindClanners, but she was extremely grateful for it in this moment. as her extremities began to acclimate to the chill, the apprentice sat down and neatly wrapped her fluffy tail over her alabaster paws, her mint green eyes surveying the camp and her clanmates who were out and about. noticing that a few of her clanmates were gathering over by the fresh kill pile, Talonpaw perked her ears for a few moments, trying to determine if they were having a private discussion or if it would be alright for her to approach the small group and make conversation. from the looks of it, she wouldn't be intruding, and so the blue and white tabby quickly rose to her paws and trotted over, mint green eyes bright.

Talonpaw had always been particularly fond of Hawkpaw, despite not having interacted with him personally, but the young tom was able to persevere through challenges life had thrown at him and he was now beginning to reap the reward of it. she had been pleased when her brother took him on as an apprentice, because she felt the two would be able to relate in a way many of their clanmates would not be able to. giving him a gentle brush on the shoulder with the tip of her tail as she approached as a kind greeting, the young she-cat offered both Mouse and Diamondkit a soft smile, before grabbing a small mouse from the fresh kill pile and settling down off to the side. looking at Mouse for a moment, she studied the grey she-cat up and down slightly, still a little nervous around her due to her long past with her father. there was still so much she didn't know about Eaglespirit, and the appearance of these cats from his past had slightly pushed back the progress of their father-daughter relationship that had been developing over the past few moons. every part of her felt guilty for feeling slightly uneasy about the whole situation, and she wanted to put in the effort to get to know both Mouse and Flint because of how close they were with her father, but she still found it difficult just as she had found it difficult to adjust to WindClan after being sent away from DarkClan.

blinking back to reality after zoning out, the she-cat smiled again, opening her maw to speak, "i hope it's alright that i'm intruding. you all look a little cold, this is one of those days i'm glad i'm the one who inherited Eaglespirit's long coat," she laughed, trying to make light of the situation.

// all opinions are ic<333 talon really just cannot handle change in the slightest haha

"Cold?" Diamondkit grinned, "I'm never cold! I'm the snow itself," she said, referring to her white coat. She looked over at Mouse, smiling. "Well, I can help Hawkpaw with herbs!" she meowed happily, standing up by Hawkkit and slashing her tail.

listening to diamondkit's musings, his whiskers twitched in response. he had been scared he wouldn't be able to help the clan, and that had made him feel rather bitter. now, he felt like maybe his future could actually amount to something more than moping around the camp wishing he could see.

"it won't be too long." he assured his clanmate, though he knew the moons in between now and her apprenticeship would probably be filled with insufferable boredom. time seemed to pass more slowly in leaf-bare; sometimes the forest seemed to come to a standstill, the only consistent sound the howling of the moors as if they too were complaining about the cold.

untrained, hawkpaw hadn't the slightest clue that mouse was expecting a litter. she had been carrying out her duties, and it wasn't as if he could see her belly anyway. "i'm sure we'll manage," he attempted to soothe. after all, stress certainly wouldn't help keep cats at peak health- even the young bengal knew that. "buzzardflight knows what he's doing."

in contrast with talonpaw, hawkpaw was not well-suited for the drop in temperature. smooth coat along a slender frame, he shivered like a twig against the strong gusts of windclan. a tawny ear flicked toward her voice. long coat? hawkpaw would have never known had she not mentioned it. in fact, he hadn't been aware that eaglespirit had a lengthy pelt either. "you're one of the lucky ones, then." he noted to the fellow apprentice in a cloud of white forming before his muzzle that he himself was blind to.

the snow itself? he wasn't sure what she had meant by her comment; he couldn't see her fur or the snow. she wasn't cold, but she was the snow itself... which was cold? he blinked his sightless orbs in confusion. "maybe buzzardflight will let you help sometime." he remarked. well, he wasn't sure if the deaf medicine cat would allow it. however, it seemed rather unreasonable for his mentor to refuse an extra helping paw.

Diamondkit giggled. “Sure! I’d love that!” she said, sitting down again and licking her fur. It as actually really cold. Brr. She curled closer to Hawkkit to get warmer. They were waaarm. She purred a little, then looked at the others. She knew Hawkkit was blind, so she wanted to show him some friendship. The world was all white now anyways, or not?

//okay this is too fast but I think I came up with a ship. She doesn’t mean it like that but me totally xD

so, other cats found herbs at least semi- interesting even though they weren't forced onto the path of a healer. well, it wasn't that hawkpaw didn't find the subject matter enthralling- blizzardflight's skills were really impressive and the young bengal hoped one day his abilities would reflect his mentor's training. he felt it had been one of his only options though, and probably the most favorable outcome of his circumstance as he wasn't exactly keen on spending his moons in the nursery watching over pestering kits while the queens were busy.

visionless blue orbs blinking in a jolt of surprise as a pelt pressed against his, he realized diamondkit had shifted closer. the molly's frame blocked out some of the biting chill; their nearby purr amplified in his auditors akin to a light rumble of thunder.

"...yeah, you could gain some useful knowledge in case of emergencies." he said finally after a brief struggle to actually find something to say, his tawny ears warm as if the green-leaf sun were beating down upon them.

//hahah omg, poor hawkpaw didn't know how to react
