  • ((OOOO Congratulations!! I hope you get a good grade, essays are the worst))

Luckily for him, Rin hadn't given any attention to his internal struggle. In fact, his silence had led them into a false sense of security; they were just starting to think that maybe it wasn't his plan to talk to them after all. Needless to say, they were both startled, and a little annoyed that they were proven otherwise. They were sure that he was an okay guy...They just weren't the best with conversations, and it looked like hewasn't too good either, so they weren't really looking forward to this. A small, foolish part of them was hoping this was all he wanted answered.

"...I am." They answered quietly, gaze focused still on clearing stains out of fabric. There wasn't anything particularly aggressive in their tone, or body language for that matter, though they certainly didn't seem relaxed. Not that they had seemed relaxed before.

  • ((No,no! They wont be in the way ^^ Perhaps they stop to eavesdrop? I'm not to sure of Lily's character/how she feels toward Rin as a whole ect, but she might see this as an opportunity to get Maria out of there depending what direction the conversation takes ? you don't have to take my suggestions uwu))

  • Alright thank you I am going to take you up on that))

Lily was going to continue walking with Maria when she had over heard that the new guy was from the wasteland and this made her perk up a bit. She gently guided Maria back over to the mat and found a place where they wouldn't be seen but could listen in on their conversation. Maria was going to ask Lily why they had come back to the mat but in her sister quickly shushed her so she could listen in without much interruption. Lily may not have spoken much English but she could understand it well enough that if she could figure out where this guy came from then maybe she could find a way to get her and her sister out of this place. Nor Lily or Maria had really heard about anyone surviving outside the walls(?) that protected them from the outside world. Lily knew about the horrors that laid past the wall but she tried to keep her sister from hearing about it as not to frighten her and give her nightmares. Lily briefly peaked to see who had been brave enough to speak to the outsider she recognized the person a bit since she had stolen from once when her sister had gotten sick with the cold.

  • A response was a start, certainly, but Giovanni had lots of questions about just about everything - Were there places where it was warmer? Were Zed Hunters real? Was it rare to live on the road like vagrants did? He had to focus on something specific though, he got the sense that if it was too vague, then they wouldn't answer at all. "How long have you been outside the cities?" he asked, figuring it was safe enough to ask questions because they didn't seem to be angry about his talking. He was nervous in case this took a turn for the worse, but keeping his hands busy hid that for the most part.

His grandfather had said that some people spend their whole lives outside the walls of cities, and Giovanni was amazed that someone could survive that long out there.

  • Rin sighed quietly, mostly to themself, and partially to Alexandria, who they liked to pretend could understand them and their reluctance to socialize. Who knew, maybe she related. Either way, Rin didn't speak chicken. They had to answer the question in English anyway, so even if they could, that wouldn't have been much help.

"...Since I was a teen." They mumbled. Simple enough, but this time they weren't as foolhardy to think that this would be the end of it. Two questions could only be leading into more "..ask more than one question at a time. You'll get answers faster." They actually glanced over at him this time, gaze flickering across his face, before resting back on their work.

  • That would have been a long time to survive out there, he supposed, and the sigh didn't seem like it would be a good idea to press any more questions. Perhaps they were sick of people asking questions, or maybe it was the opposite, Giovanni didn't claim to know other people's minds. A smile came across his face when the stranger gave him the go-ahead to ask more questions, he could actually get concrete answers on what it was like out there, not just stories from 40 years ago that he had heard a hundred times.

"Great! I mean, have you seen the Zed? How frequent is it to find them? Are the hunters real?" He asked, his enthusiasm shining through and his work forgotten in favour of the conversation. If they were to be having a conversation, it was probably polite to give his name. "Oh, I'm Giovanni. I work in the clinic here." he added, holding out one of his hands to shake as he introduced himself, the smile ever-present on his face.

  • With how little he had spoken before, they were almost startled by his sudden liveliness...or maybe they just weren't used to people "..Rin." they eyed his hand a moment, taking a moment to wipe their own hand on their pants before they took his, giving it a firm, if awkward shake. Alexandria clucked quietly at the sudden movement, but thankfully didn't try to move again, and Rin as able to return back to their jacket.

"... It depends." They started, slowly, first figuring out how, exactly, they were going to answer "Usually, I don't see them in groups, just one at a time. And yes. There are Hunters out there too." They picked up their jacket, starting to carefully wring it out. Honestly they'd done the best they could with how deep set some of the stains were "..I see them as often as I see zombies though." Which was a little vauge, but unlike the hunters, they didn't spend their whole life studying the patterns of Zed.

  • Lily listened especially close to his piece of information since she had never really dealt with the Zed or zombies before so she knew she would have to learn so she could protect Maria. She was also especially happy to here that they were hunters out there thinking maybe she could get their help or borrow something of theirs if they weren't willing to help them out. Maria couldn't really understand what they were saying she she choose to instead watch her sister's facial expressons to see if she couls figure out what was going on but at the moment it wasn't working seeing as though Lily's expresson was still and concentrated. The most she could get from that was this was a serioud matter and should keep quiet and listen in as well.

  • Well, that information was far from exact, but there were a couple of things he could tell from it. Plus, now he had a name to put to a face. This person wasn't a hunter, because they talked about hunters as if they weren't one. Not that Giovanni knew what to do with that information now that he had it. "Oh, how long are you staying here?" he asked. If they were staying for very long, he could find them again and bother them some more, this time with his sketchbook- or maybe he could just go with them. That would be the smarter option, and while he didn't know much about surviving out there, Rin did know. Surely there was safety in numbers out there, and that would mean that he could see things for himself! The fact that he had a job and family and some sense of stability here failed to cross his mind, as he was always rather short-sighted and impulsive when ideas struck him.

( sorry about the short post, muse isn't super great rn :/ )

  • (You're fine! Like I told pride, I'm not a real stickler for length)

Rin finally accepted that they would just have to deal with the fact that they were going to have to actually interact with Giovanni, and resisted the urge to sigh again "I'm here for one more day, after tomorrow I'm leaving again." Maybe sooner, maybe later. However long it took for them to find some food they could finagle from the gang, and maybe fire starters. Some travelers might've stayed longer to rest up, or wait for a caravan to pass by as well, but Rin found that it was somehow easier for them to rest when out in the wasteland, and it was easy enough to resupply in the cities without waiting for some rowdy merchants. So two days. They didn't bother to think about why he may be asking this, assuming that it was just one of those questions people ask when they're waiting for another topic to come up.

  • Lily pressed her lips together into a thin line frustrated by the fact that he may be leaving soon. She would have to follow him around for a while so she could pick up on what he did to survive out there especially since she would have Maria with her. She hoped they would talk so more so she oculd get some more information to collect. Maria at this point was bored and began looking around to see if she could find something to entertain herself. She wanted to play with the hen again but she knew she would have to wait to ask her sister about it and she would have to till later when they had done rounds.

  • ( I was out here trying to remember what I'd forgot to do... Turns out it's this. Sorry guys! I have an essay to write today & tomorrow & I really shouldn't be procrastinating, so I'll be posting tomorrow. )

  • ( Ngl this week has been a Bad Week™️ & we're only halfway through it, but I'll do my best to write a decent post! )

That was a short amount of time, usually people waited for groups of merchants, but given that this person wasn't exactly talkative Giovanni didn't blame them. All the merchants he had ever talked to had done most of the talking for him. That did have a downside in it for him, though, because if he was going to suggest going with them then he had to do it now - he would be cooped up in the clinic for the next few days no doubt. Lowering the level of his voice a little before he spoke, he figured that if his father caught wind of him trying to leave then it wouldn't end well. "Can I go with you? I can bring medical supplies if that's what you need. To pay you, I mean." he asked.

  • Aahh awh :( I hope it gets better for you ! Or at least, I wish you luck in dealing with the shitty things))

In wake of what the man said, Rin was quiet, for a moment. Part of this was making sure they had heard him correctly, and they other part was waiting for him to take it back. no one wanted to travel with them, why would anyone want to travel with them unless they were desperate?... Or perhaps, if they had poor judgement "...Why?" They ended up asking, in all honesty they weren't sure how they would want to respond, and so made an attempt to stall while they gathered themself "The wastelands aren't safe, regardless of how many people you travel with."
