  • Amelia let out a small breath that she didn't know she had been holding when she saw Théo smile. Well, atleast she'd have answers and conversation. She had fully turned to him, leaning forward slightly in her chair. If nothing else, this would save her some reading. She nodded wordlessly in reply, processing the new information in her head. It made sense, the hunters probably killed off most of the stronger monster breeds and thus could expand their operations. They might be spread thin, but their smaller numbers allowed for fast and precise agents rather than a whole squad. She almost considered taking notes, they would be useful if she ever found herself in military strategy.

She grew even more curious when Théo said that he had been "picked up." What did that actually mean? Was he an orphan? Maybe he was exiled from his home? Many thoughts circled in her head about the man in front of her, but she didn't even consider thinking about asking him more of his past. Neither of them knew the other well, and she wasn't sure if it was a difficult subject for him not. She'd keep it in mind of course, but she was still curious. Just who was this man?

The princess took an interest in the training and mutations, hanging on to the hunter's every word. She wasn't too surprised at how hard it must've been, they had to be highly specialized and powerful to kill monsters. Especially if they happened to be on their own. She noticed his moment of melancholy and bit her lip, wondering if he had said too much already. He still continued though, so she kept listening. When he was finished she sat back in her chair for a moment and processed everything. "Thank you Théodore, I must say that you've satisfied my curiousity."

(Maybe we should have the barebones of a plan, I myself am one for improvising rather than planning, but it's always good to have a bit of a plan in mind.)

  • ( Yeah, that sounds good. Maybe we should leave it for a bit to let the character development sort of set in & maybe they travel to somewhere else for whatever reason (a formal visit to somewhere, or a different castle owned by the royals?) and the assassin chooses to strike then? We would need a motive for whoever wanted them dead. Maybe it's a royal or noble from Théo's country who wants to start war/weaken Trenith? That would sort of bring Théo into question & up tension maybe? )

"Happy to help, princess. Talking makes things far less boring, I find." he replied. It seemed that she didn't have any other questions, and he wasn't sure that it would be appropriate for him to ask anything of the princess just yet. Torn from his thoughts by a noise on the other side of the door, a frown came across his face and he had to focus to listen to the faint noise on the other side. "The queen has requested-" oh, just that rather bothersome steward, no doubt talking to another servant as he made his way through the corridors. Happy that there was no threat at hand, he focused his senses back to his immediate surroundings. Hopefully the princess wasn't too worried by his reaction, the thought didn't quite cross his mind that she likely would not have been able to hear it from where she was with unaltered senses.

  • (I think I may have an idea, what if they eventually go to another kingdom to arrange a marriage or something like that, but it turns out that that kingdom has hired the hunter-assassin to destabilize the country and prepare it for conquering?)

Amelia nodded, a small hum of agreement being her only reply. She had to admit that Théo was probably one of the most interesting people that she had met. Everyone else was so simple, they did what they did for such simple reasons and as such never caught her attention. Théo however, was a bit of a mystery to the princess. A mystery that she intended to unravel, but that made her wonder. Did her mother plan this? It wouldn't be too out of character for her. She glanced back at Théo and furrowed her brows in confusion, was he listening to something? She didn't hear anything, it was just like usual. When he seemed to focus back on the room she spoke again. "Théodore? Are you alright? You...spaced out there for a moment."

  • ( That sounds like a good idea! I guess we need to sort of plan out what exists where in this world then, at least vaguely, so that we know what we're talking about. I would say that the country they're travelling to should be reasonably far away so that we can have some interesting things happen on the road? )

He considered her with a look of near-confusion, and then it hit him that he had enhanced senses compared to her. He had just been talking about it, how could he manage to forget that? "Oh, yes, I'm fine. I heard someone outside the door, it was just the steward walking past, nothing to worry about." he explained with a smile to try and calm her again. Perhaps he should ask a question, change the subject from how foolish he had been to assume she heard the same things he did. "Princess, may I ask you a question?" he asked, figuring that he should at least be polite and ask permission first. He didn't even fully know what to ask about, she had said that she was knowledgeable in history, so maybe something of that subject?

  • (Yeah, maybe through some mountains or some other natural obstacle)

"Ah, right of course." She nodded, sitting back in her seat again. Amelia was a bit worried there for a moment, but she supposed that she'd have to get used to Théo's abilities. It made him the perfect guard really, she wondered if her sister and mother also had a hunter watching over them. She blinked in surprise for a moment before she nodded again. "It's only fair, feel free to ask anything and I'll try to answer it to the best of my ability." She didn't mind, it might even be a bit interesting to answer some of his questions. It would make some conversation if nothing else.

  • ( Sounds good! I'm happy with that, unless you want to clear other things up first? I was thinking that maybe in going through a more isolated/dangerous area they run into one of Theo's adoptive siblings? Like, maybe There's a snowstorm in the mountians and they get separated, only for another hunter to find the princess? To sort of give her more information on Theo that he wouldn't give himself? because he isn't going to admit that he was a scrappy street kid who first had a roof over his head and a real bed at 13 )

To his knowledge, there were no hunters he knew in the castle, but given that they were royals, he wouldn't put it past them to hire from several different schools and each have a hunter as a bodyguard. Theo decided that he wasn't truly interested in knowing what the princess knew about history, but asking personal questions may be out of line. Well, if he never tried to pry, he wouldn't know what the reaction would be. "If you don't mind my asking, aside from studying what do you like to do? Surely you have enough time for other hobbies as well." he asked, perhaps the sentence he tagged on afterwards wasn't necessary, but he wasn't watching his words too closely right now. A foolish move, to be sure.

  • (That sounds really good actually, let's do it!)

Amelia thought for a moment before she replied. "Well, I also do fencing and a bit of gardening here and there. The gardening is mostly for my mother, but I enjoy it." She was a bit surprised that she had answered that so easily, she usually just shied away from most questions or just didn't get asked at all. "Sometimes I help out my sister with her animals, but I'm not really that fond of most animals if I'm honest." She shrugged, glancing back at Théo for a moment. "That's about it really, heh, I'm rather boring."

  • Theo nodded in response, apparently he was being far too worried about the right things to ask and if he was going to offend, because there wasn't an adverse reaction to his question. He felt that he owed a response of his own to the question, but the fact of the matter was that he didn't have much to do outside of hunting. He didn't stay in one place for very long, so he generally didn't have the opportunity to do anything outside of training and contracts. "I would say it's more than what I have. When I traveled with my mentor, I had a habit of picking up stray dogs, even a wolf pup once, but I was never allowed to keep them. I always figured if I'm from the wolf school, I can have a sort-of-wolf." he explained. If he had to choose something as a hobby, picking up and training strays wasn't a bad one, he supposed.

( Also, idk how fast you want the kind of romance aspect of the rp to go?? Are we just going to improvise & see what happens in that respect? )

  • Amelia hummed and nodded, a small smile appearing on her face. "Well I suppose it doesn't get too boring with all the traveling right? I mean, seeing all new places and people all the time has to be tiring but still. At the very least I'm sure it's rather interesting." She decided that she might like that, it would certainly be better than just staying in the castle and reading about foreign places all day. Then again, she wasn't sure how much time Théo had to enjoy the scenery when he was hunting monsters.

(Yeah, I don't know about romance necessarily but I plan on Amelia developing a bit of an interest in Théo fairly early on. She kind of lonely so she'd be eager to get attached quickly.)

  • ( Okay! Théo is probably not going to act on it when he develops feelings for Amelia, most likely due to his 'code' & major sense of duty. Not to mention the major difference in their social statuses, with Théo not even knowing his parents. He'd probably think of himself as 'not worthy' & so not make a move. )

He hummed in agreement at what she said. "Sometimes, creatures have their lairs in the most beautiful places. Griffins or wyverns usually live halfway up mountains, and you might be covered in blood and exhausted from the fight, but the view still takes your breath away." he explained, seeming almost mesmerized by his own memory of that particular event. "The people... Well, it depends on what hunters have done for where they live. In the mountains, they rely on us to keep the passes clear so trade will keep going. So you find that they're nicer to us than most. In cities, they just think we're going to steal their children, so less friendly there." he said. Théo wasn't much of a people-person anyway, really, he preferred the views of isolated highlands or mountains to cities that were far too crowded and noisy and only served to remind him where he came from.

  • (Fair enough, more than likely Amelia won't be sure what's going on and will probably have some awkward flirting moments)

Amelia nodded as she listened to Théo, trying to imagine those breathtaking views that he had mentioned. The castle was probably the most breathtaking thing that she could think of, but the farms and rolling hills of the kingdom were nice too. "People can be rather difficult to deal with. They don't like making it easy sometimes." She knew a bit about that, not everyone liked the royalty after all. Sometimes there wasn't even a good reason other than jealousy. "If it helps, I don't spend much time around people." She inwardly slapped herself, as if that fact wasn't already fairly obvious.
