As monotone and severe as he was certain he could seem, Narukami was not immune to holidays or festivities. He had a childhood too- perhaps not to the same extent as some, but when he was of an age, and with his father still alive, he and his siblings had been allowed to celebrate as they'd heard they were supposed to. Narukami had dressed as a vengeful spirit, Asahi a pumpkin, Touma a sword, and he could still remember that Taema had been a cherry blossom. His younger self had stolen many abashed glances that night, and the memories amused him as much as they pained him, which was an improvement over what they evoked in the past. The point, however, was that it had been his first Halloween, and he supposed this month would be his second, as the Octobers between now and then had been spent...very differently. Narukami hoped he could recall all the small traditions involved.
Pumpkins were an obvious aspect of Halloween. Carvings ranged from childishly simple to expertly complex, and as this was his first carving, Narukami was convinced he would be toward the former. It was perhaps not the best idea to give a perfectionist a knife for a task he'd never done before.
Grumbling to himself where he sat cross-legged, he viciously stripped the pumpkin -his third- of its seeds, distaste clear on his features. "Disemboweling a man is cleaner than this," Narukami declared as he dropped another handful of orange, goopy mess into a bowl. "Disgusting." With his forearm, he shoved aside strands of hair that had escaped the hair-tie, frown deepening.
