As monotone and severe as he was certain he could seem, Narukami was not immune to holidays or festivities. He had a childhood too- perhaps not to the same extent as some, but when he was of an age, and with his father still alive, he and his siblings had been allowed to celebrate as they'd heard they were supposed to. Narukami had dressed as a vengeful spirit, Asahi a pumpkin, Touma a sword, and he could still remember that Taema had been a cherry blossom. His younger self had stolen many abashed glances that night, and the memories amused him as much as they pained him, which was an improvement over what they evoked in the past. The point, however, was that it had been his first Halloween, and he supposed this month would be his second, as the Octobers between now and then had been spent...very differently. Narukami hoped he could recall all the small traditions involved.

Pumpkins were an obvious aspect of Halloween. Carvings ranged from childishly simple to expertly complex, and as this was his first carving, Narukami was convinced he would be toward the former. It was perhaps not the best idea to give a perfectionist a knife for a task he'd never done before.

Grumbling to himself where he sat cross-legged, he viciously stripped the pumpkin -his third- of its seeds, distaste clear on his features. "Disemboweling a man is cleaner than this," Narukami declared as he dropped another handful of orange, goopy mess into a bowl. "Disgusting." With his forearm, he shoved aside strands of hair that had escaped the hair-tie, frown deepening.

  • IM JUST A FULL TANK AWAY FROM FREEDOM —

"If you cut a hole in the bottom instead of the top, the pumpkin will not collapse over time as it starts to decompose." Would come the monotonous tone of Leifsdottir. She was always full of various tidbits of information, however useless they were. Well, I suppose this wouldn't be considered useless seeing as it was relevant for once, no? Traditions and festivities; Leif had witnessed it all as a child, as they would tend to move from place to place often, thus exposing them to various cultural traditions. Halloween was always fun too, she supposed. Like Narukami's, her first proper Halloween had also been a memorable one. Fenech dressed up as a slice of peanut butter on bread, and she was a slice of jelly on bread. PB&J. Their mother thought it was adorable, though the two of them loathed their costumes. But that was a while ago. A lot had changed since then. For the worse, for the better, she didn't know.

"The seeds may also be toasted for a healthy snack."

  • I BELIEVE IN SOMETHING MORE, ALL THE DAYS THAT CAME BEFORE, LED US RIGHT TO WHERE WE ARE—

If there's one thing Kady thrived off of, it was halloween. It was the spookiest time of the year. It was her calling. Her style could be considered 90's grunge with a modern twist, but at her core she was just another girl who enjoyed creepy things. However if there's one thing she has come to hate over the years, it was pumpkins. There was no real reason other than having to deal with small children covered in paint rather than the small pumpkins they were supposed to be decorating. It was a teacher's worst nightmare, and one that made her vow she would never touch another pumpkin unless the situation truly required it.

Her upbringing however did not focus on halloween, but instead the day of the dead. As a child pumpkins were painted as candy skulls and trick-or-treating was not allowed given that she and her mother lived in a bad neighborhood in NYC. She missed out on many things most children experience when it comes to holidays, but there's no regret in that. While she despised her mother at times, she knew that Hannah was just doing her best to raise Kady while dealing with criminal activities. To see adults still partaking in the events though? Well, it was amusing. "Well aren't you just full of snapple facts?" The young woman muses with a quirked eyebrow as she looks over at Leifsdottir. Narukami was struggling, yes, but he was a grown man. He'll figure out the science to carving a pumpkin eventually.

    Well.

    Maybe not.

    Sweet Little Unforgettable Thing

  • Halloween was a holiday he was extremely fond of, and every year he had dressed up. Even as he blossomed from a child to a teen to an adult, he continued to find costumes and utilize them for his own guilty pleasures. He had been scolded late in his adolescence for continually dressing up, given how old he was, but he simply ignored his mother and father and continued to do what made him happy. Other holidays were somewhat trivial, though the last three of the year were his favorites. One would think that the Fourth of July would be among his favorites, given that he was the embodiment of an American cowboy, but it was quite the contrary. The spookiest of the holidays was his favorite, and it was he who had somewhat forced Narukami into aiding him with pumpkins. It was amusing to watch the male slice into them, and disembowel them. Their contents were everywhere, and the room itself smelled of pumpkin guts. It wasn't the most pleasant, but Rosemont was attempting to clean up after his significant other.

Listening to Leifsdottir talk to Narukami in her usual monotone voice was also amusing, especially since she seemed much more knowledgeable on the topic than the male seated on the floor. Rose merely watched from the doorway for a moment, chuckling to himself as the interactions were laid out before him. Kady was a welcome sight, especially since they shared the same feelings for the holiday. He eventually pushed off the doorway with his foot so that he could approach the trio, a pleasant grin written upon his features. Rosemont crouched down next to Narukami, watching the male as he cut into the pumpkin with his knife, a taunting grimace eventually making its way to his face. "Well, it's like yer tryin' to kill it or somethin'," the cowboy teased, soon taking a seat beside Naru to continue observing him.

  • His brow furrowed, and he viciously scraped more vein-covered seeds from the walls, nose wrinkled as another wave of disagreeable smell wafted out. Why was this a tradition? There were much cleaner alternatives. Fake pumpkins, for instance, would suffice just as well, and his amber gaze lifted from his task to Leifsdottir, the set of his mouth saying -without speaking- what he felt about her advice. "Apparently, vaseline preserves it as well, but I do not want to preserve these monstrosities," he answered tartly, stripping off his glove and rotating the pumpkin between his legs so that he could attack the front of it with his knife, offering Kady no greeting beyond a flick of his eyes. To say he was currently frustrated with carving ridiculous faces into pumpkins was an understatement, and he wondered if it would still serve the same purpose if he simply embedded the knife in the pumpkin and left it outside. But then a small, idiot child might pull it free, and that was an entirely different mess he didn't want to deal with.

The sound of a familiar gait had his hands pausing, before resuming their task with more ferocity than before, sawing out the outlines drawn on its surface. Narukami's fingers stilled when Rosemont lowered himself down beside him, and his head turned to him, lips pursed. "At least I do not dress like a Halloween caricature every day," he sniffed, with a thread of not-entirely contained amusement in his voice, and a slight curl to one side of his mouth, before he abruptly lifted the pumpkin and dropped it -gently- into Rosemont's lap. "Show me your technique, then."

Narukami looked to the two women present and gestured to the variety of pumpkins in the corner. "You are free to carve your own, if you wish."

    ALREADY CHOKING ON MY PRIDE

  • Halloween was not a holiday that she celebrated. It just seemed pointless in the teen's eyes and she couldn't be bothered with focusing her time on it. Even as a little kid she had never celebrated the holiday but she had watched as others went about their own joys in life. Even then she was confused about the want to dress up as something different than who they were. It confused her and she couldn't understand why. The idea of getting candy also didn't sway her from her thought of the whole thing and so she was a bit miffed about the circumstances. She'd never had a sweet tooth to begin with so seeing others enjoying themselves made her feel a bit...left out. But the princess would never say anything about that and instead she watched from a distance as one complained about carving the pumpkins and another spoke of facts about pumpkins. The thing that made her come to life was the offer that she could make her own pumpkin. Her gaze slipped away and toward the gourds that were not in use and she then looked back at the adult. For a moment she didn't move and then very slowly she reached out a slender pale hand to gasp the top of a white colored pumpkin. It felt rough against soft skin as she pulled it to herself quietly, eyeing the surface of it before she reached for a spare knife. One she had never used before in her life but it couldn't be that hard. Dark locks hid her face as she lowered the point of the knife to the side of the pumpkin, narrowing her gaze as she attempted to apply the force necessary to pierce the skin.
