history summary: Kaytlyn was born due to infidelity. Before all magic dwellers were sent away her father, who was married with two children with his wife, was having a secret affair with her mother. The only difference with this affair was that the pair actually did love each other. Her father wasn’t happy in his current marriage and had only married her because his mother thought she was a good fit for him but she had been wrong. He actually had plans to divorce her and marry Kay’s mother but then all magic dwellers were banned and exiled to the northern isles. Kaytlyn was born there. Her mother had been well off, not rich but not poor either, so growing up Kaytlyn had lived in comfort. Still living on the isles was not an ideal place to grow up. You always had to look over your shoulders wherever you went because you never know what might happen or who could be trying to hurt you. Her mother would always go on about her father and how the two had plans to get married themselves after he divorced his wife and growing up Kat would always have this images in her head of what the man was like and if he ever thought about them or if he even still loved her mother. She tries to keep those thoughts to herself though. After they came to the isle her mother never really used her magic because she believed whole heartedly that it was the reason she and Kaytlyn’s father couldn’t be together anymore and be a family and therefore wouldn’t teach Kat anything either. So she did what any rebellious young girl would do when they wanted to do something their parent disapprove of. She taught herself. She would steal books out of her mother’s room, only one or two at a time so she’d never noticed and would spend hours practicing and would lie to her mother saying she was just studying for school. When the law was lifted saying that all magic dwellers could return back to the main land Kaytlyn and her mother were more than ecstatic. Kaytlyn saw this as a new beginning and a way to finally meet her father and believed it couldn’t come a moment to soon.

history summary: morgana was born to a very powerful and malicious witch named kleio and a sorcerer named hagard who passed long before morgana's birth. hagard's death was linked to kleio, however there was very little evidence to trial her for his death. kleio had been young when her and her family were shipped to the isles and yet her hatred for demwire only grew as she did and when she birthed her first child, samandriel, she taught his all about her hatred and when kleio birthed her second child, morgana, her hatred only grew, for she was forced to raise her children on the isle, the place she hated most.

kleio's family was on the wealthier side while in demwire so they lived on the wealthier side on the isles, meaning things weren't too hard for them to get by. morgana was left alone by her mother for the first few years of her life, focusing most of her attention on samandriel, teaching him everything she knew. morgana focused most of her attention on learning as much as she could while her mother was distracted, often snooping and sneaking her mother's spell books and usually self-teaching herself spell that she would often practice on the guards. as a child, morgana was fun-loving and a bit reckless.

as soon as samandriel turned eighteen, when morgana was only eight herself, he left home, not wanting to be corrupted by his mother any longer. he married young to a young witch named elisa. with her brother gone, kleio turned her attention to her youngest child, pulling morgana into her wicked ways. kleio taught morgana all she knew about black magic, teaching her the most important spells. however, morgana found herself rather skilled with blood magic, both of which her mother congratulated her on.

morgana was forced to harden up due to her mother's cold and calculating nature, forcing morgana around and emotional and mentally abusing the young child. it was around this time that morgana started to cause more trouble. an unknown anger grew within her, not only at demwire but also at her mother. she took the anger that she wished to take out on her mother onto the poor people of the isle and the guards, even managing to kill on or two along the way, however all evidence was burned by her mother who was forced to clean up her daughter's mistakes.

kleio eventually fell ill and no amount of witchery could save her or slow down her illness and she only started to grow weaker and weaker, and still she taught her daughter. at the age of seventeen, the daughter and mother pair received some news that would usually be grieving had the both of them not been heartless, both samandriel and elisa had passed away, leaving their newborn daughter orphaned. all at once at the mere age of seventeen, morgana became the maternal figure to her niece elasyia. the baby girl was the only thing that made morgana soft, her own little weak spot.

morgana continued to practice her magic during the day and cause trouble at night until she was nineteen when here mother passed. unsurprisingly, morgana felt nothing when she passed but was instead slightly glad. she lived contently with her newfound daughter until the news that the gates would be opened.

history summary:

growing up in the northern isles, ramona came to appreciate that life wasn't always fair. unlike the mainland, no one there was particularly 'wealthy', per say, and those 'wealthy' people living in the isles scrambled to make ends meet while the poor were destitute. it was an endless pit of penury and inevitable financial ruin, which liam and lucine montgomery had always been a part of -- even when they tied the knot and joined households.

for as long as she knew, ramona never shared the same fiery psyche as her sister. there was rae, the eldest montgomery daughter with a heart ablaze and a spirit ceaseless, and then there was mona, the youngest, who rarely left the comfort of her mother's arms and aided with menial housekeeping. she grew close to lucine and learned many things from and about her, except for the fact that she believed she'd failed at raising her reagan and through her somber principles regarding the ruthless world around her, she decided to ground her youngest instead. it was always fear that motivated her to watch from the sidelines instead of take action, which ramona would eventually adopt.

however, there came a time in her life where all of that changed, if only briefly. being young and impressionable, she wanted to see the reason behind her sister's rebellion and, soon enough, began tagging alongside reagan and getting involved in matters she wishes she'd never gotten herself into. at first, it was all fun and games, literally, usually involving pulling harmless pranks on the dewmire guards. she didn't see the burning need for retribution in her sister until the day the two of them started using their magic, hanging around the wrong crowd, and committing crimes.

there came a day when the guards changed up their usual rounds during the night due to reports of theft and travelled on the trading ships towards the northern isles, to which neither her, reagan, nor the rest of the group were made aware of as they left at dusk to steal some goods. to put it simply, they were all in the wrong place at the wrong time. ramona was captured by the dewmire guards and nearly executed on the spot -- she recalls the sensation of the guard's blade grazing the back of her neck, the stinging pain, and the trickling of blood down her chin. if not for reagan's quick-thinking and reckless use of magic, she would've died then and there. the incident terrified mona to no end, and her mother's teachings came flooding back to her, where they remained ever since.

ramona quickly fell back into her mother's arms, refusing to leave the house, once again hiding under the shadow of her elder sister. reagan, on the other hand, continued to spiral out of control. worrying about herself was one thing, but worrying about her sister was a whole other. she would sit in front of the front window as the days turned to nights and nights to days, waiting anxiously for rae to return home. it wasn't until her father fell ill that, due to to a lack of healthcare and funds, reagan finally had to give up her vigilante lifestyle, becoming the support the family needed. mona didn't know what to think about the sudden change, and hasn't brought it up since.

her father's death was expected, but grim nevertheless. however, with it came a new chapter of life for all magic users living in the northern isles. after only a couple of months, the magic ban was lifted and those who practiced it were allowed back into dewmire. her mind was set on staying alongside her mother, but to her surprise, lucine actually wanted ramona to leave her and go with reagan, figuring it would be safer and therefor necessary. she didn't fight her mother, she couldn't, and despite her swelling anxiety regarding the prospect, alongside her sister, she boarded one of the ships which would take them to the mainland.
