  • midday was overwhelming in the sweltering heat of savannah, georgia. the heat in itself was torture but with the added humidity, sweat began to build up as soon as hunter took a step outside. however, this summer he was dedicated to making it fantastic regardless of the heat. as he placed his last bag in the back of old blue and white van, he whistled to zao. they both quickly loaded up in the spacious van, on the way to pick up each of his friends. the ac was turned on full blast along with the distinct sound of his favorite genre of music, eighties rock. with the windows rolled down, he put the van into gear and backed away from the house he had known all his life. saying goodbye to his home was tough but he knew the goodbyes which would take place at the end of summer would be far worse. he hoped everybody would be ready to go but knowing his friends, there was no way everything would go smoothly. the first stop would lyndsey's house. she lived the closest to him so it would only take about five minutes to arrive. he shot her a quick text to let her know he was on the way.

ooc: sorry not the greatest first post. i was in a rush.

  • lyndsey had been feeding her budgie, kiwi. she'd had him ever since freshman year as a sort of parting gift from her father, so she'd formed a close bond with the tiny green bird. as her phone buzzed, she stopped stroking his feathers and noticed that the message was from none other than hunter. rapidly unlocking her phone, she responded to the text and stood up, placing kiwi back into his cage. she'd packed the night before since she couldn't sleep due to excitement. she'd always wanted to travel internationally, and what better way to do so than with friends by her side? she gathered her things and then glanced at the birdcage.

unfortunately, kiwi had always been a bit ill-tempered when it came to his rigorous schedule being disrupted. her mother still had to work and she knew her brother mason wasn't going to wake up early to feed and check up on him, so the only option left was for her to bring the spoiled little bird with her on the trip. she lifted the cage, which would be smaller than what he was used to since it had to fit in the van, and carried it along with her old, beat-up bags downstairs. she hadn't needed to bring much, and due to its neat folding, it was compacted within three bags.

her mom was at work currently, and mason was probably still asleep, so she pushed open the front door and sat down on the step. she peered into one of the bags, making sure she had all of kiwi's supplies and then her own essentials, and then contentedly waited for the vehicle to pull up. however, after a few minutes, she had already began to sweat. knowing that hunter's house was five minutes away from her own, though, she decided to stick it out, and browsed her phone mindlessly.

  • he felt the van creak as it came to a stop in front of lyn's house. hunter spotted her on the front doorstep, rolling his eyes when he spotted the birdcage. of course she couldn't leave him behind. seeing that she had not yet spotted him and seemed to be preoccupied with whatever she was scrolling through, he honked the horn in an attempt to scare her and perhaps the little budgie. he pushed zao out of the passenger seat where the german shepherd had been happily residing, into the back seat to make room for lyn. he figured she would not be happy sitting in the back whilst the dog sat shotgun. he then got out, opening the trunk in preparation for her bags.

  • immersed in her phone's screen, lyndsey hadn't seen or heard the van roll up outside her house, and was inevitably startled by the sound of the horn. kiwi began to freak out and she looked up to see hunter opening the trunk as she nearly dropped her phone. recomposing herself and gathering her things, she did her best to hush the small bird. as she walked over to the van, kiwi's squawking became louder and more persistent. she set the cage down for a minute to shove her bags into the back of the vehicle, and then shot hunter a glare, placing her hands on her hips. lips pursed, she bent to pick up the cage and faced him again.

"really, hunter?" she asked, rolling her eyes. "the poor thing is frightened. you know he hates loud noises." sticking her fingers through the cage's bars, she tried again to calm kiwi, cooing softly at him. slowly, he stopped screaming and quieted down.

  • hunter responded with a chuckle, well, that was kind of the point, lyn. why did you even bring him along? he loved to mess with his friends just a bit, lyn's reactions had to be some of the best though. through the van, he could see zao's attention perk up as he noticed the screeching of the little bird. he tended to bring zao everywhere so the two had seen each other before but the dog tended to not be keen on the little bird. he did his best to tolerate him however, even though both him and hunter agreed on the fact that the budgie could be obnoxious.

  • with another roll of her eyes, lyndsey sighed. she hadn't wanted to put kiwi through the stress of moving around everywhere, but since no one else in her family would be able or willing to take care of him, she brought him. she was also aware of the fact that neither zao nor hunter really cared for kiwi, but decided that they would have to manage.

"because my mom has to work, and mason is not going to get up early to tend to kiwi," she spoke, looking fondly at the finicky bird in the cage. "and he's coming with me to college anyways. might as well get him used to the transportation process." she then paused, looking back up at hunter. "well, i'm sorry that he doesn't know how to cope without getting food at exactly 6 am. i'll try to keep him quiet, but i can't promise anything."

Jack sat cross-legged on his bed, rifling through his luggage one last time while he had the chance. Some could say that the teen had overpacked, what with his large suitcase and several other bags, but he liked to be prepared and the thought of possibly forgetting anything made his stomach twist in worry. He skimmed through the list he had sketched out, crossing off the things he had. Sunscreen, check. Phone charger, check. Toothbrush, check.

Once he was satisfied that he indeed had everything, Jack sat back on his hands and huffed. He had honestly been planning on spending the summer relaxing at home, curled up on his comfy gaming chair with his eyes glued to his PC, but after some internal debate he decided he couldn't pass up Hunter's offer. His friends were important to him, and he wanted to spend as much time with them as possible before they inevitably parted ways.

Speaking of ... Jack realized it probably wouldn't be long before Hunter came to pick him up, so he hauled his bags to the front door (making sure to say goodbye to his lizard along the way), and stood in wait.

  • hunter shrugged, it's okay lyn. we'll make it work. are you ready? we gotta go get everybody else. we'll stop by jack's next. he hurried to get back into the driver's seat, starting the rusty old van back up. perhaps it was not the most reliable method of transportation for a road trip but to him, unpredictable events made trips that much more fun. the inside of the van had already resorted back to a boiling temperature after only being off for a couple minutes but it was not long before the ac once again blasted through the vehicle. he decided that next he would just leave the van running as an attempt to keep it cool inside.

  • lyndsey nodded and practically swung herself into the passenger seat. settling kiwi's cage in her lap, she relished the feeling of air conditioning on her warm skin as it turned on. noticing her little bird's sudden mood shift, she turned around to see zao in the backseat. she reached to pat the dog on the head, then looked forward again. absentmindedly, she fiddled with the strands of her hair in one hand. the other she kept on the birdcage, stabilizing it as the van passed over bumps in the road.

"god," she mumbled to herself. "they need to fix the infrastructure here." releasing her hair, she tapped her fingers to the beat of the song currently blasting from the radio and hummed along. it was one of her favorites, and she knew the lyrics by heart.

  • IVY STUART

ivy had not traveled since she first moved to united states as a child, so she wasn't exactly sure how much packing was needed for a cross-country road trip. she looked questionably at her single duffel bag, but decided it would be enough; if she needed anything else, then she would just purchase it somewhere along the way. her youngest sister, genevieve, was still in ivy's bed, and every so often she'd hear a light snore coming from the eight year old. ivy had decided so say all of her goodbyes last night, which was a good idea on her part as some of her siblings didn't react the kindest. the twins, alexander and william, supported the trip wholeheartedly. they had started to grasp how much responsibility ivy held, and they wished for her to enjoy her summer without worrying so much about her siblings. lillian was a little upset that that her sister would be gone for so long, but, as long as she promised to stayed in touch and sent lots of pictures (mostly ones with or of hunter, as she has begun to take quite a liking to him), she said she would be alright and she wants her to have fun. geneivive, on the other hand, threw the biggest tantrum ivy had ever seen. genny was known to be a bit of a brat sometimes, but she had never been acted out like that before. It had went from screaming, to crying, to screaming, to crying, to silence, to crying, and, finally, to acceptance. they had fallen asleep cuddled up in ivy's twin sized bed, and ivy was thankful when she hadn't awoken her with the alarm she had set for this morning.

she turned away from her belongings and examined herself in the large mirror that sat above her dresser. she was donning the light blue bib overall shorts that she wore every summer with a white, soft cotton t-shirt. ivy had grown a bit taller over the years, now standing at about seven inches over five feet, and the bibs now hung loosely near the top of her thighs, exposing her pale, thin legs. she looked clothes over once more before moving her gaze upward to her frizzy, fiery mess of hair. she reached up a slender hand and raked it through the mess of curls. it was meant to be quite humid today, so she had sprayed a ton of hairspray while getting ready this morning to try to keep the girls under control. she closed her eyes for a moment and let out a long sigh, silently reminding herself that the trip was a great idea.

  • *:・゚✦JACK WAYNE

Jack swung open his front door, awkwardly lugging his bags out to the front steps of his house. Waiting outside would be more practical, he figured, even as the hot sun bore down on him. Maybe I'll get a tan this summer, Jack mused absentmindedly as he waited. It would be welcome; after spending so much of his time indoors the teen had become even paler than usual.

  • noticing lyn was enjoying the music, hunter turned it up a bit. it was one of his favorites, a very commonly known song. the ride to jack's house was slightly longer amounting to about ten minutes. the friends tended to be spread out around the town but the often visited each other. already missing his sports car, hunter groaned a bit at the in capabilities of the van, the acceleration was slow, the turning radius was large, and the van was incredibly bulky. he wheeled it around one last turn before they headed down the street that belonged to jack's house. he turned into the driveway before coming to a stop, spotting jack sitting outside as lyn had been.

as the korean exhaled, he watched the big cloud of smoke nearly surround him with a small resting on his features. there really wasn't a day he wasn't doing something he wasn't supposed to. if he wasn't drinking then he was smoking, if he wasn't smoking then he was drinking that why he was still having a mental debate if he really wanted to go on this trip. sure they were all well aware of what his smoking habit but not so much his drinking one, even if they were aware doesn't mean they wanted to deal with it during the trip. he wasn't really sure if he could handle them all sober and if he could, how long. it was bad to say that but everyone had grown close to each other, everyone expect him of course. he hung out with them every now and again but it wasn't a constant thing. he needed his space and they needed theirs, he of course, just needed more of it. jay didn't really hate them and they didn't really annoy him but he's never been one to grow close anyone, he's always kept up several walls about everything. they really don't even know why he does what he he does, they just assumed he does to simply do it but that's not all completely true. he sees it as a stress relief, everything goes away for just a little bit. but that little bit is never long enough hence why he does it so much and is hardly ever seen sober.

a soft sigh escaped his lips as his gaze landed upon buster who decided it was a good time to plop into jay's lap like a lap dog. "you're too big for this." he chuckled but didn't push the dog off, instead he just adjusted the best could and allowed the dog to grow comfortable. "i may as well go right buster? it's my last chance to be free before doing whatever with my life." in all honesty, jay had not the slightest clue what he wanted to do with his life. he once thought about going and becoming a lawyer but his brother was doing that, so he quickly dropped that idea. his sister was becoming a teacher as expected, she tries to play the innocent child of god but in reality she's lucifer herself. she knows how jay feels about life and everything else and basically bullies him over it but that's a story for another time. he pushed himself off the bed, making buster have to move. he had to pack real quick, he had nothing together. nothing at all. it was a bit weird being at home, he was hardly ever home. he usually stayed at a friend's house or somewhere that wasn't home or sometimes he just waited till everyone was gone for the day then decided to come home. but since no one but himself was here he didn't mind it, he was only here because he had never made up his mind about the trip. any time he was asked, he kinda avoided it. he didn't want to say yes then not want to go later or say no but end up wanting to go.

"let's hope they didn't forget about me." he mumbled, dragging the last of his luggage towards the door. jay wouldn't be surprised if they had forgotten him, seeing as mentioned before he never made up his mind. but we'll cross our fingers and hope they didn't. once he had everything he needed/wanted, he went ahead and changed into the outfithe had set aside before packing. although he did smoke a lot, he never liked to smell like it. never. he always made it a thing to smell good, he knew people didn't like the smell so he decided to never smell like it. plus being in school, if you even smelt like it you were in trouble. so he really didn't have a choice unless he wanted to be in more trouble than normal. after he changed, he took a quick glance in the mirror and ruffled his hair a bit. "good enough."he shrugged and made his way towards the door keeping an eye out for the van in a nearby window.

  • *:・゚✦JACK WAYNE

An amused smile graced Jack's features as he spotted the bulky van pulling into his driveway, and his slight anxiety was quickly forgotten. He quickly rolled his luggage up to the van, tossing it in as he settled inside. "Hey, Hunter! Lyndsey," Jack chirped, arranging his things. "This isn't your usual ride, if I'm not mistaken?" He had noticed the obvious difficulty Hunter had experienced trying to navigate the thing, but wasn't overly surprised. It was in Hunter's nature to be unexpected, even impetuous. This is going to be an interesting trip, the eighteen-year-old thought to himself.

  • ———— Penelope Agnes ————

So thats one gold star for me

To put it simply, Poppy had to sneak out of her apartment. Her niece, Antoinette or Bug as the eighteen year old often calls her, has grown quite attached to her and tends to throw fits if she leaves, even just for a grocery run. So, she packed her bags late last night, wrote a note for her niece (she's also planning on sending postcards), gave her a peck on the forehead, and then headed to the apartment lobby. She is wearing shorts, but it is way too hot outside for waiting out there, especially when she is gonna be waiting for a while. She takes her phone mirror and puts her hair half up, so she won't overheat in a car with all her friends. Yes, all. She does have a few friendly type people in her academic clubs, but she's well aware that any one of them would draw her as soon as she isn't useful anymore.

Thankfully, she has more Instagram followers than friends so she decides to spend her extra time on Instagram, where one of the nerds she is friends with has been asking questions about forensics, which is actually one of Poppy's best subjects. She's planning on majoring in zoology or forensic science, so people often come to her for help with science. She types out a quick explanation of the chemical luminol, then proceeds to scroll through her Instagram. What a nerd.

OOC: Sorry for the late reply! I'm not sure how active I'm going to be this week, since I have to go to quite a few funerals. I should be good to go after that though.

    "Speech."

  • hunter groaned, no but i figured this would be better for a road trip. we'll be fine though. this trip is gonna be amazing even if it kills me. regaining his happy go-lucky compusure he recovered with a quick smile, have you got everything? we won't be able to turn around if anything was forgotten. you'll have to make do with whatever they have at the nearest gas station.

ooc: sorry for the short post. in a little bit of a rush

"I-i'm good." Jack reassured his friend, nodding quickly. "I spent a good thirty minutes going through my things." He glanced around quickly, taking in the interior of the van for a moment before he continued. "I like the van, by the way. It has that whole 'retro' feel. It's cool." Jack smiled. He tended to be a very positive person, even to the point of overlooking obvious flaws. He just hoped what he said was enough to reassure Hunter. He had a tendency to fail completely at social interactions and didn't want to say the wrong thing.

  • lyndsey waved to jack, who she saw sitting on his doorstep as the van pulled into his driveway. with a smile, she turned from her seat to look at him as he opened the van door and climbed in. seeing hunter's exasperation at piloting the huge vehicle, she tried to lighten the mood with a little dosage of kiwi.

"hey, jack!" she greeted him warmly, carefully lifting kiwi's cage so the bird could see. "kiwi says hi!"

well, she thought to herself, hopefully kiwi's on his best behavior for this trip so no one gets annoyed. she submerged this thought as she noticed jack's hurried speech. she smiled at him again, hoping to ease some of his anxieties, then turned back to hunter.

"who are we going to pick up now?" she asked, moving some of her hair back over her shoulder and then busying herself with giving the bird some more attention.
