NIGHTCLAN
An uncomfortable peace has settled over the three clans. After a long period of border skirmishes and petty arguments, each clan is waiting for another to strike. When tragedy starts striking each clan, fangs are bared and claws are pointed, but no one will step up and accept blame-- why are cats turning up dead?
HISTORY OF THE CLAN
The Eclipsim Clan were known for being a superstitious group. They worshipped the night and strange gods, and claimed to be able to read the future in the stars. On the night of a lunar eclipse, a queen gave birth to a single kit-- an unusually small litter. Prophets of the group claimed that the kit- a weak, barely-breathing daughter named Luna- would be the savior of the clan from doom. She was pampered and treated like royalty all through her childhood. An uprising was brewing within the group. A single rebellious tom demanded that the governing system be changed from a monarchy to a democracy, and a divide formed in the group. A battle start, cats started dying, and the prophets turned to their savior to guide them. Luna stood calmly, demanded silence so she could speak, then declared that she, too, thought there should be democracy. She engaged in battle, slaughtered the Eclipsim's leader, and led those who would follow her to a faraway land. There she founded Night's Clan (in honor of one of their deities) which would later simply become NightClan.
The Eclipsim Clan slowly dwindled in number until their ranks were too small to stay together. They disbanded and spread out. NightClan grew, and through neighboring clans they adopted some of the characteristics of the traditional clans we know.
NIGHTCLAN LORE
NightClan has retained some of the superstitious attributes from the Eclipsim Clan.
> the leader is believed to be chosen by their gods-- therefore they should be given absolute respect and loyalty. The deputy also deserves absolute respect as they will be the next leader.
> medicine cats spend about half of their training leaning herbs and the other half learning to interpret signs. They can range from minor ones about the weather, to omens more massive pertaining to the demise of the world.
> it is especially important that no fighting take place at gatherings, as the full moon is said to be Nia's eyes watching every move of the clan.
Night of No Moon- once a month, when the night holds a new moon, the clan gathers for a ceremony as soon as the first star is shining where the leader recites a prayer asking for good fortune for the next moon.
Warrior ceremonies- once a mentor believes his or her apprentice has the necessary skills for survival, he or she must speak with the leader. In the warrior assessment, apprentices must first prove their hunting and battle skill. Should they catch bountiful prey and perform well, Shi has blessed them for warriorhood. Next, they must sleep on the dangerous Nia's Rocks, where venomous snakes are not uncommon. If they survive the night, Nia has blessed their warriorhood, and the ceremony takes place.
RELIGION
NightClan religion varies from the traditional StarClan that both LakeClan and GrassClan follow. While they still believe their ancestors reside in StarClan, they believe the world is governed by two deities-- the sun and moon, more commonly known as Shi and Nia.
Depicted as a massive golden-furred lion, Shi represents the sun. His opposite, Nia, represents the moon and takes the form of a silver-furred panther. Both are given blank-slate personalities, believed to simply act by instinct and as they please. NightClan strives to stay in their good graces.
CLAN RULES
While NightClan has adopted the warrior code, they have altered or added their own rules to go with it.
1. Defend your clan and clanmates with you life. Personal disagreements should be put aside in battle.
2. Do not trespass on another Clan's territory.
3. Queens and kits are fed first, followed by the Esteemed Elders. Everyone else may eat once they are fed.
4. Never speak against the gods-- such is severely punishable
5. Do not threaten clanmates.
6. A cat cannot be made deputy without the blessing of the gods.
7. The deputy succeeds the leader.
8. A gathering of all three clans is held during the full moon. No fighting may happen during this time.
9. Challenge all trespassing cats.
10. Warriors may not neglect a clanmate-- they are not obligated to help anyone outside of their clan.
11. The word of the leader is absolute. To question is severely punishable.
12. Should a cat leave NightClan, they may not return.
THE THREE CLANS
NightClan
- known for their prowess in battle and their skill in using the night to their advantage. They were the least traditional of the clans, and perhaps the most feared of the forest.
territory: NightClan's territory is a mixture of grasslands and forests. To the north is a thinner forest, and near a small stream is where NightClan's camp is found. To the east is thicker forest, plentiful with prey.
LakeClan
- the first to settle in the territories, LakeClan is set in their old ways and are stubborn to change. They are known for keeping order and for being the most social of the clans, and the most likely to offer medical assistance.
territory: settled on the bank of a small lake, LakeClan resides to the north of NightClan and to the east of GrassClan. A small portion of forest lies in their territory, but they mostly lay claim to a large grass field and the lake. Their camp is a large group of boulders on the bank of the lake, some of which create crevices to sleep in.
Leader: Wavestar- blue-furred molly with yellow eyes
Deputy: Mudwhisker- brown tabby tom with green eyes
Medicine Cat: Tawnyfur- tan molly with hazel eyes
GrassClan
- formed shortly after LakeClan by kittypets, what they lack in an intimidating name they make up for in their aggressive personalities. Years of being picked on for their roots have hardened them into stone-cold warriors. They are known for being the most anti-social of the clans, and for their intense dislike for NightClan.
territory: To the north of NightClan and to the west of LakeClan, GrassClan lives not in the grasslands, but in dense forest. Little is known about their territory or camp-- the other clans don't dare travel into their territory, and when meetings are wanted, GrassClan prefers to meet at the border.
Leader: Coalstar- gray and white tom with green eyes
Deputy: Slateclaw- gray molly with green eyes
Medicine Cat: Snakeleaf- old black tom with yellow eyes
MC Apprentice: Lichenstep- orange tabby tom with green eyes
OOC RULES
- be mature, be responsible, and be polite
- quirky characters are encouraged!
- proper grammar is expected at all times in-character. I'm a firm believer in quality over quantity-- there is no limit to how long a post must be. So long as you write something that can be responded to, there will be no problems.
- make as many characters as you can handle
- do not play as your own mate
- kits must have a mother signed up with them
- I strongly encourage talking to other players and creating predetermined relationships (family, friend, or romantic)
- do not be passive aggressive in your posts. All arguments should be in-character only, and they should remain as such.
- I reserve the right to accept and deny any forms-- the key thing I look for is creativity in the character and writing skills.
- please let me know if you'll be gone for a few days-- it's not problem, I just want to make sure nothing's wrong if you disappear on us!
- LGBTQ+ characters are welcome!
- reservations last 24 hours
- there is a maximum of two high ranks per person (senior warrior and higher is considered a high rank)
- it is preferable that each person play only one kit if they desire to play one at all, but there is no official limit
- please keep all chatting to the plotting thread
- names should be traditional and should be based on the appearance of the character-- all names on this tumblr are acceptable
- pictures used on forms should not be stolen (to find images free to use, filter your google search-- ask for help if needed)
- time skips will happen periodically, sometimes just a few day, sometimes a few weeks
- I will personally take over abandoned characters (and probably kill them so don't leave if you don't want them to die ;) )
- characters will age 2 moons every real life month (this is to prevent kits and apprentices from staying in those ranks forever)
- more rules may be added or changed at any time
ACTIVITY
- because this roleplay does have a completed storyline thought out, it is of the utmost importance that those who sign up remain active to the best of their ability. I understand life happens, and sometimes we just can't handle a roleplay. That's fine! Real life should always come before this! I only ask that you don't sign up with the intention of dropping out after a few weeks.
RANKS: [listed in order of most to least respected]
Leader- a cat divinely chosen to lead NightClan prosperously. Leaders are chosen by the Esteemed Elders, medicine cats, and new leader. Once a candidate is selected, the medicine cats wait for a sign of confirmation. If none happens within a day, a new candidate is selected.
Deputy- a cat selected to aid the leader with daily tasks and take over once the leader retires, dies, or steps down from the position.
Medicine Cats- cat who have herbal knowledge and can interpret the signs of nature and the gods
Medicine Cat Apprentice- the cat chosen to train under the medicine cats. Once a medicine cat finds a kit or apprentice who shows potential as a medicine cat, they wait for a sign to confirm the choice.
Esteemed Elders- cats who have retired from being warriors. These elders are granted an honorary title for being wise and skilled warriors in their time. The rank can be taken away in the case an elder betrays the clan or goes into a state of being unwise (especially for those who turn senile.)
Senior Warriors- a rank given by the leader to warriors who are experienced, wise, and have proven themselves to the clan. It is a huge honor to be granted this title and almost guarantees the rank of esteemed elder upon retirement.
Queens- birth mothers or pregnant mollies, valued for their sacrifice of their warrior duties for motherhood. Queens choose when they return to warrior duties, but it is typically two moons after kitting.
Warriors- the bulk of the clan-- those who hunt and fight so the clan may prosper.
Elders- retired warriors. Those who are still functioning well typically care for the kits when mothers are busy on patrols.
Apprentices- young cats training to be warriors
Kits- those not yet old enough to begin training. They must stay in camp until two moons, after which they may leave so long as they are accompanied by a warrior and have permission from their parent(s).
