  • TAGS ✦ ✧ ✦ — First up on the agenda was...well, a tour of the medicine den. The kitsune would make her way towards it, tails flicking behind her. Her head swiveled to make sure her new apprentice was following. "Okay, are you ready, Billie?"

  • BILLIE JEAN --

    "Ready."

This confirmation was made with an eager nod, the silvery grey kitten trailing after the older kitsune, her paw steps careful and her pace a bit on the slow side. Entering the medicine den, her eyes would widen and her nostrils flared, taking in the sights and especially the pungent smells of herbs. This was uncharted territory for Billie and she was exercising the utmost caution, not wanting to knock into anything important. With interest, her head swiveled as she looked about the area, wondering if Sundance had any patients currently.

  • TAGS ✦ ✧ ✦ — "All right, follow me." Sundance made her way to where there were tables made out of pieces of wood shoved into the wall, something Sunny decided to try one day and was surprised it worked, somewhat. On these tables were leaves, and on the leaves were various herbs. "Now, here is where I keep my herbs. As you can see they come in many different colors, scents, and shapes. It's important to know which herb is which. Do you have any existing medical knowledge?"

  • BILLIE JEAN --

"It's important to know which herb is which."

Billie let herself consider this statement for a moment, brow-like whiskers above her eyes furrowing as she thought of the implications attached to this sentence. At one point in time, the grey-furred child may have thought that "medicine was medicine" and it all did the same thing: Made sick and injured creatures better. Now, as she took in the sight of all the different plant-life, of varied colors, shapes, sizes, and especially odors, she recognized that each one must be used to remedy a specific kind of sick. Otherwise, there would not be any need for such an assortment.

A thought occurred to her then and she toyed with it for awhile before daring to ask, "Are any of them poisonous?" This was a concept she knew about, having been warned as all kits were not to eat strange plants out of necessity for their life. If any of the herbs that medics used could also cause health complications, it was even more important not to make any mix-ups. Listening was definitely going to be an important part of this visit, she recognized, and she made sure to keep her ears perfected up and angled towards the kitsune.

As she was asked about any medical knowledge she might have had, she would shake her head. Practically none. "No. . . I know, um, about cobwebs for bleeding. I watched my brother get his paws fixed when he cut them," she explained.
"That's the only thing I know."

  • TAGS ✦ ✧ ✦ — She nodded. "Some of them are, to certain animals. Although, there are poisonous herbs out there that I'll show you later." At Billie's next question, Sunny nodded again. So cobwebs. Pretty basic stuff, and it was a good start. "All right. Now, there are other herbs to help stop bleeding. Cobwebs are a good tool to use, but if bleeding is severe, you can use things like horsetail, or marigold." Eyeing the shelves, she nabbed two herbs: one a bright yellow flower, and another a tall green plant with a bristly stalk. She placed them down in front of Billie. "Can you tell me which is which?"

  • BILLIE JEAN --

A serious nod would follow in the initial reply the medic trainee made regarding poisonous plants, apart of her mind paying attention to the fact that she had said 'to certain animals.' The grey tabby hadn't even considered that you might have to treat different species of creatures with different herbs. There were layers to this healing thing that she hadn't previously considered. And though it made her nervous, as things often did, the revelation did more to increase her determination to learn all that she could.

Learning something new almost immediately, she would nod as she listened to the older kitsune- Not just cobwebs could stop bleeding, then, but 'horsetail' and 'marigold' as well. Peering at the plants placed in front of her, she would crouch low to look at them with keen iridescent eyes. It didn't take her too long to make a decision. The green plant had a stem which somewhat resembled a horse's tail, if she squinted at it and well. . .

"That one is marigold because its yellow," she guessed pointing to the beautiful flower. Marigold. "And that one is horsetail," she assumed aloud, looking to the non-flowering plant beside it. Expectantly she would look up at the queen, hoping she was correct in her assumptions. With this, she also asked a question, "To stop bleeding with them, do you press them onto the cut like you would with cobwebs?" Or maybe you make them eat it?

  • TAGS ✦ ✧ ✦ — "Correct, very good!" She took the marigold and horsetail and placed them on their respective shelves. As she did so, she wondered if the shelves were a bit too high up. Not everyone had wings, or telekinesis. Maybe she should make stairs or something. She filed a mental note for later, just in time to hear Billie's question. "Yes. You can use both to stop bleeding, by chewing one or both into a poultice and applying it to the wound. In addition, both herbs can be used to treat infection." With a small smile on her face, she went to the back of the den and pushed a small jar of a clear liquid out. "This is witch hazel. It can also be used to treat wounds. A good friend taught me this remedy." It was a shame that Clove was gone, really. Sunny missed her a lot.

  • BILLIE JEAN --

Billie would watch as the kitsune returned the herbs to their respective shelves, then listening as more specific detail was given about the herbs. So you had to chew them up and then place them onto the wounds? That was good to know and she made a mental note of this, willing herself not to forget this useful information. As a jar was pulled out and sat onto the table next, she would peer closely once again, having never heard the name 'witch hazel', nor seen it before. Horsetail and marigold were at least vaguely familiar but this was something new all together. "Where do you find it at?" Queried she, looking at the translucent liquid inside of it.

SO TAKE MY STRONG ADVICE, JUST REMEMBER TO ALWAYS THINK TWICE

  • TAGS ✦ ✧ ✦ — Where was witch hazel found at? She...wasn't sure. "To be honest...I'm not really sure. This came from some sort of bottle I found, and after testing it on a patient, I determined that it was witch hazel. I know there's a plant with that name, but I have yet to find it." Maybe it would appear with this shifting of the world.

The kitsune moved forward to another glass jar which had some yellow liquid in it that was a bit more thicker. "Do you know what this is?"

    "speech"

  • BILLIE JEAN --

At that, Billie would blink in surprise, staring at the witch hazel with curiosity. So it was just luck that the medic apprentice had happened across this bottle, it seemed. "What does the plant look like?" She queried, deciding she would keep an eye out for it, as it seemed to be rare; though, she knew that it would not be found in the desert, too cold and barren for most plants to grow. As the second glass was placed before her, she would squint at it, green eyes serious. "Umm. . . I have no idea. Maybe its marigold hazel?" Was there even such a thing?

SO TAKE MY STRONG ADVICE, JUST REMEMBER TO ALWAYS THINK TWICE

  • TAGS ✦ ✧ ✦ — What did it look like? Was she ever told that? She tried to dig deep into her memories. "It's...really weird. Hard to describe. Like...stringy yellow petals." Plus, she had heard it didn't taste so good. Eyeing the yellow liquid for a bit, she shook her head when Billie answered. "Nope! This is honey. It's pretty common, but hard to get unless you like getting stung." Sunny remembered getting stung once when she had tried to get some. Next, the kitsune nabbed a small bunch of a green plant, with a sharp scent, laying it in front of Billie. "Okay, one more. Do you know what this is?"

    "speech"

  • BILLIE JEAN --

Billie would blink, considering the description- she didn't think that she had ever seen anything like that, but she would remember it for the future. And oh - Honey! "I've heard of honey," she meowed after a moment, though she had never seen it before. "It comes from bees." There were a lot of lifeforms you weren't exposed to often in the desert - Plants and insects alike, she had never seen a hive, only knowing vaguely of them. Then again, she was pretty young, and there were certainly a lot of things which she simply hadn't happened upon thus far in her short life. The next bunch of green plants placed before her had a really strong smell, and her nose twitched as she stepped closer, inhaling sharply. "I don't think I know. . . What is it used for?"

SO TAKE MY STRONG ADVICE, JUST REMEMBER TO ALWAYS THINK TWICE

  • TAGS ✦ ✧ ✦ — "This is parsley. It's used for bellyaches and to halt milk production in nursing mothers." she explained. "You chew it up, simple as that."

The kitsune made her way towards the back, flicking her tails to indicate that Billie should follow her. "Now come along. I'll help you make your nest that you'll be sleeping in, then I'll take you on a tour around the territory. Would you like that?"

    "speech"

  • BILLIE JEAN --

Bellyaches, that would come in handy, she thought. Parsley, she repeated in her head, determined to remember the name, and the appearance of the herb. Billie also pondered on why you would want milk production to halt. . . Then decided that it wasn't something she wanted to think about, a lurching feeling in her heart.

Blinking warmly at the Blizzardclan medic she would not and pad after the kitsune, meowing aloud, "That sounds like a good idea. Can you show me where herbs grow?" A bit of nervousness prickled at her paws when she thought of sleeping somewhere other than home, but she pushed this feeling away; she was here with a good purpose, after all.

SO TAKE MY STRONG ADVICE, JUST REMEMBER TO ALWAYS THINK TWICE

  • TAGS ✦ ✧ ✦ — As Sundance approached her own nest made out of various large and small leaves she had found, as well as Angelbeats's, she made her way past them both towards a small pile of leaves. The kitsune nudged the pile with her nose next to her nest, and began to craft another nest. "Yes, of course. Some herbs that grow here may not be found in the Ruins's territory. In that case, I'd be happy to lend you some. Just ask." As the medic trainee kept going, weaving various leaves together, she avoided eye contact with Billie.

    "speech"

  • BILLIE JEAN --

Crouching down on the other side of the kitsune, she copied the older creature's movements as she helped mold the leaves into a nest. Considering what was told to her she would admit, "I'm not sure where plants even grow in the Ruins. . . Its very cold and there isn't much life there, plants or otherwise. Where do you think I should look?" The child didn't think that Sundance had ever been there, but maybe she had some general advice as to where things tended to grow at in cold places. Any tips would help, really.

SO TAKE MY STRONG ADVICE, JUST REMEMBER TO ALWAYS THINK TWICE

  • TAGS ✦ ✧ ✦ — Weaving the last leaf in, she made eye contact with the child again, her features showing hesitance. "I'm not quite sure. I've never been to the Ruins' territory. Tormentil is found in cold places--it's a great all-purpose remedy for wounds and removing poison." Sundance thought for a moment more. "There's also an herb called 'sweet-sedge' that eases infection inside the body when swallowed." She nodded. "Both of those herbs can be found in cold climates. Do you have conjuration?"

    "speech"

  • BILLIE JEAN --

The nest looked great, in her opinion. This would be her first time sleeping away from home but. . . It would all be worth it in the end, and she was already having an enjoyable time in Blizzardclan. Blinking towards the medic trainee, she would listen to the names of the herbs listed. "Tormentil and sweet-sedge," she mused aloud, expression serious as she tried to cement these strange names into her mind. "Thank you, I'll make sure I remember those. Do you have either of them here so I can see what they look like?" If they grew in cold climates, it was likely that they would be among the most plentiful in their medicine stash at home, therefore it was important that she knew how to utilize them properly. "And, do you eat them, or chew them and place them on the wounds?"

At the question she was asked, the kit would tilt her head in slight bewilderment. "Conjur...Ation?" Blinking in confusion she would say,
"Um. . . I don't think so. What is that?"

SO TAKE MY STRONG ADVICE, JUST REMEMBER TO ALWAYS THINK TWICE

  • She nodded. "I do, let me get them for you." The kitsune padded off and came back with the herbs. A long green stem, and a yellow flower with four petals were placed in front of Billie a few moments later. "This is what they look like. Around here, you can find them in the frozen tundra. You can swallow the sweet-sedge sap, but for tormentil, you chew it up and put it on wounds."

  • BILLIE JEAN --

Billie Jean stared long and hard at the plants, determined not to forget them. Sweet-sedge was not as bushy as horsetail, she noted, and she would be able to tail tormentil apart from marigold by the number of petals; plus it was much smaller. "Thank you, Sundance, I promise to remember," she vowed as she thought to herself, Swallow sweet-sedge sap and chew up tormentil to put on wounds.
