  • IC: Dipper pushed several low-hanging branches away from him as he walked forward. The greenery near the forest floor was dampening the cuffs of his pants, but he barely took notice of this as he watched the horizon. He could only see glimpses of it through the thick trees, but what he could see filled him with vague anxiety. The sun was setting quickly. Dipper normally wouldn't mind that, since he'd explored countless other forests at night, but along with the fact that he was lost this was unnerving. He didn't really want to be lost deep in the woods after dark.

Yet here he was. Sighing, Dipper pulled a dark forest green sweater from the bag on his back and pulled it over his head. Considering that it was mid-autumn, it could get quite chilly as the sun went down. This was actually another thing that he normally didn't mind, but for some reason the familiar sweater made him feel better about being lost in the woods at night. Dipper weighed his options as he walked, trying to decide whether it would be a better idea to stop where he was immediately and just rest for the night, or if he should just keep walking. He decided to keep going, since inaction in a situation like this just made the whole thing worse for him. He just felt like he had to keep moving.

In the gathering darkness, it seemed like the twisted trees had faces. Dipper felt watched, and it was an eerie feeling he didn't like. He knew that he'd been getting a weird vibe from this forest, but he was starting to regret checking it out a little bit. Every time he took a step, the crunch of leaves under his feet sounded to him like a second set of footsteps mirroring his. It wasn't long before he decided to sit down on an old tree stump and take a break for a few minutes.

OOC: I wasn't sure how long to make this post, so just write how much you'd normally write, and I'll shape my replies around that

  • //Thanks! I just got home I'll try to keep it up

Hidden deep in the woods lay a place that only few have seen, and Dipper had somehow ended up right in the heart of it all. With the trees slowly distorting and changing, it was clear that Dipper wasn't getting out anytime soon. The sun was setting, the wind was picking up, and in the autumn weather it was bound to get dark and cold very, very soon.

Behind Dipper footsteps were following, yes, but they were quiet enough that nothing would really be noticed yet. When Dipper sat, that's when he knew it was time. The beast, they called him, inched closer silently between the adlewood trees, holding the lantern up to shed light on the darkening clearing. It was a simple lantern, but held a much more sinister secret. The holder of the lantern, however, was..sad. His eyes were dull and forlorn, having forgotten his own name long ago. The branches and vines that enveloped his whole body ruined the once cheerful Halloween costume, ripping and tearing it and coating it in dirt. He didn't look human anymore..he had become one with this world, with these woods.

A new soul within the trees..The Beast inched closer until he was just on the edge of the clearing, watching this boy curiously. Would he be scared? This Beast wasn't mean...he just watched from a distance until the prey became too tired and gave in to the woods.

  • IC: Dipper glanced up as he thought he heard something, squinting through the trees, but he couldn't make out anything. He shrugged it off as the wind in the branches and pulled the bag he carried with him off his back. Taking out a water bottle, he took a few sips from it before putting it back into the bag. A faint breeze whispered past, sending some of the dried autumn leaves scuttling across the forest floor. Dipper looked up at the moon that was becoming brighter and brighter in the sky. Shouldering his bag and looking around again, he wondered whether he should keep walking. The darkness made the trees look even thicker and the wind made a hollow whistling noise that sent a dull shiver down Dipper's spine. He tried to shake it off. He'd definitely been in worse places, including a house that had been possessed by two demons at the same time, and yet there was something very unnerving about these woods. Dipper shifted his weight from foot to foot. He squinted between the trees again as he thought he caught a flash of light. A moment later, he decided his eyes must be playing tricks on him when he didn't see anything else. Turning, Dipper began to walk through the trees again.

  • Wirt seemed taken aback when Dipper began walking again, but he quickly followed silently, almost floating between the trees. Every time he got too close he backed away, not letting the light get too bright so as to not scare the human away. Finally, after what seemed like forever of walking and the moon hitting the peak in the sky, Wirt got fed up and finally crept close enough that the light from his lantern surrounded Dipper. He stayed quiet though, not saying or doing anything until Dipper noticed. This one was..different. He was more put together, not as scared as..as he had been when he firdt arrived here. When did he get here? He didn't remember. Am he remembered was Greg; his brother who's soul remained in the lantern forever now.

  • IC: As Dipper's footsteps crunched through the leaves again, he again had the sense like someone's footsteps were mimicking his own, however he couldn't hear anything to prove this. Trying to ignore that feeling as best he could, Dipper kept walking. He hoped that if he just kept going, he'd either find his way out of the woods or onto a stream or something. Gripping the one strap of the bag that was over his shoulder, he kept glancing around, but all that he could see were the dark and twisted trees surrounding him on all sides.

At some point, he began to notice the quality of the light around him changing. Dipper credited this to the dark clouds that skittered over the moon at first. However, shortly afterward, he realized that it was a light source on the ground that was casting the glow around him. He jumped at the somewhat sudden glow of warm light. Turning around quickly and feeling his shoes slide in a small patch of mud, Dipper saw some sort of- apparition?- standing only a foot or two away from him. The light came from a lantern, but something looked a little weird about the flame that was burning inside. Dipper didn't really spend any time thinking about that as he stared at the apparition, creature, boy, he wasn't sure- at whoever, or whatever, had managed to creep up behind him.

Dipper's first action after the initial shock was to grab his pen and notebook from his bag and turn to a blank page, pen poised to write.

"Who are you?" He asked, his gaze drifting down to the lantern briefly.

  • That..definitely took Wirt by surprise. The boy wasn't running..he wasn't scared. Wirt didn't even know how to answer that question; he didn't remember his name. "I am the holder of the lantern..are you not scared?" His voice echoed, his own voice mixing with a somewhat higher, nore childish voice. Wirt was intrigued, inching closer slightly to get a better look at Dipper. "You are very lost..how long have you been here?"

  • OOC: Sorry! Just been kinda busy the last few nights

IC: Dipper quickly scribbled something down in his notebook, shutting it afterwards but keeping the page with one finger. He shook his head slightly in response to the question.

"I- I've seen worse," Dipper said quietly. He held the book to his chest, his eyes flicking between the lantern and the face of the boy in front of him. Dipper resisted the urge to inch back as he got a little closer.

"I've only been here for a couple hours . . . I just wanted to poke around a bit and then leave, but uh yeah, now I'm kinda lost . . ." He bit back a short and nervous laugh, letting his sentence trail off before he started rambling. Until he was asked this question, he hadn't really thought about how time seemed oddly stretched in this place. Had he really only been here a few hours?

  • //It's okay! That's how it's been here lol I understand

Wirt made mental notes of everything the strange boy was saying and doing, never taking his dull and dark eyes off of Dipper. "Who are you?" He asked, voice echoing in the trees. The whole world seemed to have gone dark around them, leaving them both in nothing but the lantern's glow, as if it were protecting the two from something else. "It's unsafe to wander around these woods alone at night..you're a very far way from home, human."

  • IC: Dipper tapped his fingers along the front of his notebook, his eyes darting around to notice what looked like near-complete darkness around him. There was a circle of light lit in the soft, warm glow of the lantern, but otherwise it was hard for Dipper to make out any features of the landscape around him.

"My name's Dipper," he said after a short pause, dropping the hand holding his notebook to his side. "I'm sort of- uh, a paranormal investigator?"

He shifted his feet in the grainy soil, feeling the soles of his shoes slide in the dead leaves. How far could be be? He'd only been walking for a couple hours, after all.

  • When Dipper said paranormal, an almost chuckle-like sound came from Wirt. "Oh? Is that so? Well..you have certainly come to the right place for that." He glanced around, moving closer to Dipper. "Though..you might not be happy with what you find, Dipper. We can be..a bit of a hassle, sometimes."

  • IC: Dipper suppressed his urge to take a step back by taking a step to the side instead. Holding his notebook up to his chest again, almost a little defensively, he said, "I-I've seen a lot of things in my life . . . not a lot scares me anymore."

This was mostly the truth; he'd had a lot of less pleasant experiences in his time as a paranormal investigator. However, there was something about this particular forest that put him off a little. He wasn't quite able to put his finger on what it was yet.
