he scaled down the tree he had climbed up, muscles rippling under his black pelt as his sight focused on the squirrel that had climbed so high that he didn't realize that the branches further up could hold his weight evenly. he had attempted it though, but he wasn't going to stick around and find out whether it'd come down or not, that would take too long and he needed to collect prey for the clan now. instead of going out into a hunting patrol, he figured he'd have better luck on his own.

he arched his back and stretched, his claws unsheathed and buried themselves in the soft ground below him. a flicker of movement caught his attention, silently he straightened up and his dark orange orbs narrowed in anticipation. the dark god sank to the ground, eyes flickering to the forest floor so he could picture what was around him so he didn't make any noise to disturb his prey. open his maw ever so slightly, he inhaled the scents around him, recognizing the warm pigeon scent that swarmed his senses. his tail straightened behind him as he moved forward, large paws avoiding the small twigs that scattered around him.

lightningstrike advanced almost in slow motion, but his movements were quick, like a shadow he advanced on the pigeon as it tried desperately to pull a large beetle from the ground. it happened to turn its head and see the male and tried to take flight, with powerful haunches he sprung into the air and mid-leap brought his claws into the birds back. bringing it down to the ground, he quickly bit the back of it's neck and gave it the killing blow. he was known for not being messy with his hunts, but when he was an apprentice, blood would've been splattered everywhere. his strong jaw gripped the pigeon and he turned, heading back to camp and making sure to stop at his hiding spots that he had hidden two mice.

  • Mintflower was not a stranger to the idea of how different she was from her brother. Where he was calculating, she was reckless. Where he was strong, an asset to the Clan if there would be battle, Mintflower shied away from any and all forms of violence. Lightningstrike was intelligent, careful. Successful. Mintflower, well, she tried her best. She often spent hours out in the territory, loading up on prey for the Clan, to try to hide her shortcomings from the Clan.

Still, she loved her brother. He was pretty great. His named certainly suited him-though she supposed, so did her own.

As he returns to camp with his prey, Mintflower jumps up to greet him with a skip in her step.

"Great catches!" Mintflower comments happily, "The Clan will eat well today."

  • sootpaw pulled in a long slow breath before sticking her head out of the apprentice den. the sound of the commotion made her head throb and ring. yellow eyes were drawn into a scowl as the smoke molly took a single step out of the den. the stinging of small scratches had disappeared with some extra care on her part, but her hip and head were still evidently unwell. with a slight limp, she went to go investigate all the noise. she spied two cats who she identified as mintflower and lightningstrike. they were siblings yet quite different, quite like her and her littermates. she blinked hard before realizing she was staring. quickly, she tried to cover up with small talk. "uh, nice catch." sootpaw said to the dark colored tom before quickly shifting dandelion hued optics over to mintflower and giving her a friendly nod in greeting.

he entered through the camp tunnel, the bramble thicket tugging through his fur but it hardly felt like anything more than a whisker twitch. leaf-bare almost felt like it wasn't too long ago, during that time his fur had grown thick from the cold. for most cats, it'd be difficult to carry all three. but he planned it perfectly, he carried the mice by their tails and the pigeon by its dainty little legs. sure the pigeon was being dragged half the time, but no one ate the feathers, most of the time kits and young apprentices picked them off to either play with or thread through their nests. he had been stuck in his own little world with he sister appeared, her voice cheerful as she approached and her perked up. where he was warm she was cool, she flowed like water, carefree and burning with a fire only few would ever see behind her gentle exterior. lightningstrike on the other hand was like a boulder, strong and cold. as an apprentice, everything came easy to him with battle training and hunting. but if they match their skills up, his sister was the strongest huntress he'd ever know. nodding, a smile lighting up his usually serious eyes. he quickly dropped the prey on the fresh-kill pile and returned to his sister, his black nose twitched with happiness. "prey is running well, i think we'd benefit from a hunting patrol later. it'd be nice to hunt together again." he turned his head as sootpaw joined them, she seemed a little awkward with her words and a deep chuckle escaped him, "thank you sootpaw, have you gone outside of the camp yet today?" his eye's flashed, remembering his own apprenticeship. although he didn't enjoy wandering in the forest, experiencing the unknown as his mentor explained everything. it wasn't a secret that the black god didn't enjoy being in the dark and not knowing his surroundings, to him, knowledge would always be power.
