  • BLURRED REFLECTION OF STANDSTILL POND !

He was a good man, but he had a broken heart —

It was not pleasant business that brought Standstill to the borders of the Exiles. Ancient history should, by all means, be buried deep and forgotten but it was not in him to forget something so influential. Although the root of the inevitable chaos to come was not currently at his side, he could surely feel the wolf's presence in his mind. Feliks was not a name that was appreciated in the clanlands. He was on the precipice, regarding just how well he would be received, in actuality. But all he could do ow was wait for someone to stumble across him as he waited before the borders.

someone was here and they bore the shadow veil scent. interesting. curious, the white serval would stalk forward, idly wondering why someone from there was here. if memory served correct, perry had made them into enemies because of that one guy, but he had abolished that title, simply because there had been no reason for it. hello, can i help you?

  • It was true that Lav had brought about a new era of peace within the exiles, choosing only to war with the black heart rogues for the moment. But still, when she scented the smell of another clan on their borders her mind immediately went to one thing and one thing only. It’s an attack Her movements were swift, recalling all the espionage training she had had earlier in her life the child moved through the shadows with ease. When she came the source of the scent she found that it wasn’t an attack at all and that lav had already confronted them. Still, the child remained tense. Lav was too friendly, she would’ve challenged him in a much more hostile way. The only time there was a treaty was in the case of clan wide events but showing up unnanounced on the borders was just an attack waiting to happen. Odd colored eyes continued to watch from the background for a moment as she attempted to scan the shadow veil leaders face for any signs of hostility, dissecting the planes of his face into sections as she tried to diagnose his purpose on her borders. The acting warden took a step out from her hiding place after she’s had determined he wouldn’t attack, for now, coming to stand next to lav, although her eyes never left the Shadow Vieler, her gaze locked onto his body, ready to retaliate at any moment in case he did decide to become hostile.

He was a good man, but he had a broken heart —

Quiet cloaked these Exiles that had sprouted from the tortuous earth beneath his paws. It would unnerve him, had there been more than the two of them. But he had decided to take the risk- this was on him. It struck him that he thought what he had to propose was far more interesting and viable, should his body remain functional. As such, there was hardly any hostility splendid across the marbled leopard's visage. It was not a oft visited friend of Standstill's and it certainly did not make an appearance now.

Eyeing the child, of whom looked as if she was primed to tear his hide apart, Standstill sneaked a smile across his muzzle. "You can calm it, kid. I'm actually here to help you guys out." Whether they deserved it or not was not up to him to judge. He held criticism and punishment only amongst those of his own clan and that was the reason he found himself here. "I'm Standstill, new leader of the Shadow Veil. I want to have a chat with your leader, in private if that's cool." He was unaware that they were both before him now. He had not been back in the clanlands for long at all, interclan affairs had not been something he had managed to update himself on so efficiently at all.

  • Acting warden. The child wasn’t actually the leader of the rogues. She was only pretending to be. Lav was really still in charge. She was calling all the shots right now, she was standing in front of the pack, leading them. But Lav was still leading in the shadows. He was still leader. At any point that he wanted the title back she would gladly hand it over to him. She was content with being his second in command, she still had all the responsibilities and duties of a leader as second but from the shadows. Leading quietly from the background. She was more of a protector than a leader. So when he said he was here to help them, she was concerned, much to her knowledge the exiles didn’t need help but she was willing to hear him out. With a quick glance at Lav she stepped forward, the hair on the back of her neck laying flat. “I’m the leader of this place” she said, her tone even. She was used to being underestimated, her age didn’t help much and neither did her size. “What is it that we need help with exactly?” She asked, raising a metaphorical eyebrow in a quizzical glance aimed aimed at the leopard.

He was a good man, but he had a broken heart —

The child was leader. Something that he certainly would not have bore witness to back in his days as tribe inhabitant. The thought brought a stunned raise of his brows, his eyes re-evaluating the child as she had stepped forward. She seemed mature for her age, yet she held an-overcautiousness that children were not often in possession of. Was that attributed to her upbringing or the apparent vulnerability of the Exiles? He did not dwell on it, in any case. Curiosity was not his purpose here.

"Justice, per say," he would answer shortly, his brows resettled into a purposeful expression upon his muzzle. "Again, not something I feel so comfortable talking about in the open. Am I invited in?" He could spot the distrust in their eyes as they surveyed him, leader of Shadow Veil. A clan that was not known for their nobility, Yet, so he could say the same of the Exiles and here he was, so bold upon their borders. He was here to talk and no more. He was no threat to them but he could not decide for them who they allowed into their territory. "All I can say here is what I have to say has benefit for both of our clans. You have my word that the Shadow Veil are no threat to the Exiles, in regard to this."

  • His word choice made her wonder in what regards the shadow veil was a threat to the exiles but she wasn’t going to point it out at this moment in time. The exiles could very much hold their own, even if at the moment their numbers had dwindled a little. Athena was a fucking powerhouse, the war child that’s name used to be feared throughout the clans. She had been part of countless battles in her sort time of being alive. She had been bred for the fight, thirsted for it even, and still did. The taste of blood running through her mouth was one she was very familiar with. But today was not for fighting. Normally, she wouldn’t allow an outsider in their walls. She was very much against it, as a matter of fact. But the look on his face, the tone of his voice, indicated that whatever it was he needed to talk about was serious. Nevertheless she was still very reluctant in her own decision. “We can talk in the wardens office” she finally decided. It would offer some privacy and it wasn’t far into the prison, he wouldn’t get an opportunity to see much of their home. “Follow me” was all she said and she escorted him to the office motioning with her tail for Lav to follow, taking a seat in the giant leather chair and indicating for the Shadow Viel leader to sit accross from her. The office was anything but eloquent, the chairs were torn and stuffing was sticking out of them, the desk was equally fucked, with the top of the desk peeling off and scratched to hell, a chunk of the desk itself missing from the corner. Absentmindely she spun in the chair, not fully around just from left to right, propelling and stopping herself with a single ivory paw “so” when she spoke, her tone was bored, and uninterested, although truly she was very curious as to what he had to say “what did you want to tell us” she said her eyes looking down at the desk for a moment before traveling back up to his face. It was dark in the room, with only a little dim light coming from a small lamp on the desk, not nearly enough to illuminate the room, the blinds were closed and the door was locked. There was no chance of anyone seeing or hearing this interaction besides being the individuals in the room. The child stopped spinning, realizing how immature it probably made her seem. A frown crossed her pretty face but only for a moment. She had been forced to grow up way too fast.

He was a good man, but he had a broken heart —

[ooc] warning that this post contains mention of potentially triggering topics (rape)

    [ic]

It took some time for the female to speak. Even as those long anticipated words spilled from small jaws, they seemed reluctant to leave the cavern that was Athena's maw. They echoed in hesitant fragments, veiled with sturdy suspicion and wariness. A distrust he would had not often encountered. Yet, this place was swollen with the rejected and banished. All the members here seemed to bear a black mark that gave them reason for distrust of outsiders. In that perception, Standstill could allow an understanding for such halting trepidation at his request for entry. "Thank you." Despite the rumours, despite the tales, the gratitude in his words were true. He did not think this was the Exiles those tales had been spun of. This was the aftermath and they, perhaps, did not deserve hostility.

Trailing after Athena (he recalled the name, now, from the Exile invitation received), Standstill entered the decrepit warden's office which, in truth, was in no better shape than the Veil's own buildings. Save for the cathedral that seemed adamantine through anything thrown at it. How customary for it to so nobly do so. Yet, it was not long after entering that the leopard was prompted. It was not for him to waste words where they were not wanted. "Understand that I am telling you this in hopes of cooperation for the better." If anything, he was putting Shadow Veil's necks on the line for a creature that did not seem to deserve it. But who was Standstill to pass on a burden? He was here solely to resolve matters and make history just that.

With those preliminary words uttered, the clouded leopard would finally begin. "Within my ranks, I have Feliks. I had it revealed to me by Aleksei, not long ago, that Feliks was accused of rape of a number of Exilers that had occurred around two years ago." A long time ago, yes. Long enough even for Soundcheck to decide to dismiss it yet, Standstill could not do the same- despite the risks resolution entailed. "I don't condone that in any of my clan members- whether it be yesterday or five moons ago. Whilst the easier option for the Veil would be to exile Feliks, I feel as if it would only allow him to by-pass a well-deserved punishment and may allow him entry to a clan that may not deliver any justice for the crime at all. As the crime was committed against your members, I feel you've got just as much a part to play." Standstill took a pause, waiting for registration on the pair's faces. Although, it was not a long enough pause to allow words nor him to properly gauge their reaction. He would continue only so that they could see his entire proposition.

"For now, he has been demoted to Shadow Veil prisoner- stripped of any authority he previously held. Feliks has agreed with my proposal that you have authority of him, here, to do what you will with him as punishment for a day or two. No maiming, you understand. He is still under my protection as a Shadow Veiler, although if you want to use telepathy to make him think you're maiming him, that would be fine. Otherwise, as soon as it's over, he returns to the Veil." Loyalty and sworn protection included all his clanmates, even if sometimes it meant their punishment. "There'll not be a need for restraints, either. I'm pretty skilled with my telepathy so you can trust I'll alter his thoughts so that running will be worse than the punishment." Of course, for that they would simply have to take his word. Although, there was no reason for him to lie in this situation, not with what he was offering. Justice for the Exile victims and Shadow Veil discipline was reward enough, for Standstill. "Would you agree to this proposal?"

  • Justice. Justice for all the people that he had hurt. The name Feliks was one she was all too familiar with. It wasn’t a stain on the Exiles and thinking of the creature behind the name only made her blood boil with rage. If it were up to her she would’ve shown no mercy, she would’ve executed him. But it wasn’t her decision. The shadow veil leader was offering her a compromise. It wasn’t death, like she felt he deserved but it was a chance of redemption. It was a tough choice though. Athena had been tortured before. She had lost everything, broken, beaten, abused, and they still asked her for more. What more could she give to this place? She had already given her life, her family, a potential lover. And now she had to make this decision. For them. Always for them. For a group that was barely clinging on with wht few members she had seen around lately. They once had been something to be feared. They once had a name that made other clans shake. And they would again, she told herself that. But not now. Now, they needed to build themselves up again before they could start tearing others down.

Justice. Justice for her people, for the exiles. She closed her eyes, thinking. Rolling his words around in her head. “I want him to suffer” her words dropped with venom, something chilling for someone so young to be filled with so much hatred “he needs to pay for what he’s done, I agree. I want it to be public and I want both the exiles and the Shadow Viel to be there that is the only way I can agree to this otherwise I just want him dead” her voice was chillingly cold and her eyes became distant for a moment, she went somewhere else a dark place but only for a moment before she seemed to come back, waiting for what the leopard would say, watching his facial expressions for any adversity and then quietly she added “You can use telepathy or whatever you like just make him pay for all he’s done to us”

  • BLURRED REFLECTION OF STANDSTILL POND !

He was a good man, but he had a broken heart —

Standstill watched as the Exiles leader closed her eyes, brow furrowing as he wondered at the thoughts that must be clustering in the expanse of her cranium. It was a lot, in truth, for someone of her age. Had someone presented this to him at the same age, Standstill wouldn't have known whether to blink or scream. Yet, as the Exile's eyes opened, there was a maturity that attested to her position. "I understand, believe it or not but they were my thoughts exactly." Undoubtedly, there were many that sneered at the Veil, criticised their harbouring of a many-timed Exile and continue to allow him and his brood residency. It was not an act of good-will rather than a claiming of responsibility. Standstill wanted to prove, not only to his own clan but, to all that the Veil was a clan that stuck to their word and disciplined when necessary.

"Although, there is something I want to add." Of course, this was up to the Exiles leader, yet, he could not offer what he was and not bring up the fact. Yes, she was a child but a child that was leader of a group. It was those times and those responsibilities that took priority. At what cost? He did not like to think of it. Not when it brought up thoughts of the same implicated on his own children. "I think it best if the Exile's actually conduct the torture. Historically, it is your group most affected. We have a small part we would like to pay but otherwise, I feel the right is to you and your group. The Shadow Veil's presence is granted, I'll make the announcement as soon as I get back."
