  • One hand remained on the towel in Harus hair, but the other one covered her mouth in horror as tears rolled down her face.

She tried to hold back a sob, but failed.

She was scared to touch him, to hurt him.

Her eyes looked to the bandages on his arms, which were all badly done.

β€œW-We need to get t-these looked at...”

The emotionless, lost look in his eyes physically made her chest hurt.

The state of him truly broke her heart.

How could a person to this to someone?

    It was despicable, hateful.

Eva moved the towel so it lay around his neck, before walking to the storage cupboard and pulling out two clean, large blankets.

She asked him to gently take his shirt off, which he did, before throwing the blankets over his shoulders.

She tucked them around his body, and made a hood out of one of them, so it would cover his head.

β€œYou’re coming home with me tonight okay?” She said with a small stern tone. β€œI can’t let you go back there.”

You know I’d take my heart clean apart if it helps yours beat~

  • The male felt the warmth surrounding him with the blankets.. And could see not only the many injuries he had gotten over the past week, but also how horrified this girl was to see them. They were really.. That bad huh?.. He couldn't tell by this point.

He didn't always feel as though he deserved this sort of care. To have someone sob like this in front of him.. FOR him.

He gently lifted an arm and carefully, with a faintly shaking hand, placed it on her cheek and wiped some of the many tears away that had fallen. Even with a lost and lonely expression, it was enough to show that he was grateful.

"No need to cry though.. Got it?" He murmured.

With that, he lowered his hand and buried it within the blanket and remained staring at the ground, reeking havoc in his own thoughts. Until they too, were just as empty.

"I don't want anything else to start breaking."

    .............................

    "U-Uh Eva?"

The male at the doorway, now recognised as Stephen seemed surprised at the sight that was revealed when he opened the door.

"It isn't much longer till the end of your shift.. So if you wanted to leave early then you can."

Haru covered himself more and hid his face to a larger extent within the blanket. But the worker was an adult. And what was happening was concerning him.

"Did you need to call someone? The police, the hospital-"

    "It's fine."

The worker furrowed his eyebrows. "You are injured, and most certainly unable to perform that on yourself. It's clear that you are in need of-"

"I said it's fine. No need to go on." The male snapped slightly, instantly regretting it.

The adult looked towards Eva. "Best to call your parents and get them to come in and pick you two up and sort everything out. No need to worry about work, I'll finish the rest off and lock up."

Haru didn't say anything else and just let whatever happened. Happen.

  • Eva looked towards Stephen and nodded thankfully.

Once she had sorted out a lift with her parents, she walked back over to Haru, running a hand through his hair gently.

She then bent down to his level, and moved her hand down to his cheek, stroking the skin there.

She sighed deeply, closing her eyes for a split second.

When her eyes reopened, she leaned forward and gently kissed his forehead.

    β€œI’ve got you.” She whispered.

I just wanna build you up, build you up, til you’re good as new~

  • Upon contact, Haru flinched. Yet was surprised that Eva had shown such.. Softness towards him. It made him unsure of himself in a way.. Of what he.. Felt almost.

But images of his parents came back and he was quick to lose that moment of a more.. Positive sort of emotion. And as his gaze remained on Eva for a moment longer, he spoke.

    "Thanks.. I mean it."

Not too long after, Eva's parents had burst into the room, shocked to see Haru in such a state. His mother was quick to go and help him and check everything over, confirming what Eva had already though regarding his need in treatment. And soon helped keep him steady with her daughter to when they reached the car.

"Seems you were in a bit more of a mess than we thought." Eva's father said to him softly, as he opened the door and let them help him get in before getting in himself and starting the car. As they drove away, a couple of people in suits were wandering down the road, almost as if they were looking for something.

    Or someone.

But Haru was in a daze by this point and no longer really in reality as he looked out the window, gripping the blankets tightly around him as he felt more and more tired by this point. After all, he was working on minimum amount of rest.

  • As the men in the suits disappeared down the road, Eva and her parents held a cautious look in their eyes.

They wouldn't let them get to Haru, not again.

Upon reaching the house, Eva and her father helped Haru into the house, whilst her mother started to prepare a bath and her first aid kit.

Her father made sure the door was locked, along with all the windows.

Eva helped him up the stairs and to the bathroom, where a bath awaited him.

    She sat him down.

"Want me to leave you to it?"

  • "Yeah.. I'll be fine. No need to worry." He murmured as he soon shut the door for his own privacy. Only to then prepare to get into the bath and the stinging sensations that would be caused by his accumulated injuries.

Once in however, he tilted his head back and let the water surround him for a few given moments, only to then start washing himself and his hair. It felt weird.. Being in another place. In someone else's bath.. Being treated with care and genuine kindness.

    And being protected.

    It almost didn't feel... Real.

    *knock knock*

"Everything alright Haru?" Said Eva's mother it seems. "Mhm." Haru replied, loud enough for her to hear before going back into his thoughts. Almost like autopilot.

Images of his parents appeared before him, all of what they said, threatened him with, and.. Even the time before that.

When business never mattered and bringing him up was.

Those didn't feel like his true memories of them now. All he could see was.. Monsters almost.

How childish. He was being so childish. And now he not only decided to run away, but to also completely break before Eva's eyes whilst she was at WORK.

And now he managed to drag her and her family into this.

Which was something he never. Wanted. To do.

Before long, Haru got out of the bath, looking at his body whilst it still stung from the cleansing that they had received. The dizziness and weakness in his limbs eased off for the most part, making it easier to move by himself, just at a slower pace. Though as he was dressed, he drained out the bath and even made sure the place remained tidy and clean before wandering down the stairs slowly and steadily, seeing the family there discussing matters regarding him and getting everything from the first aid kit.

They really were.. A family weren't they?

He felt almost sick to the stomach to watch. That bond, that trust, that empowerment to talk about anything to eachother.......

He always saw that it was bullsh*t in his family. And realising that just made him feel-

"Ah, Haru! Best to come sit here for a moment whilst Eva looks towards your injuries, she's rather handy with a first aid kit. Did you want any food?" The woman held an almost sad but gentle smile.

Though Haru merely gave a simple. "No thanks. It's fine."

He grimaced slightly as pets wandered around him, excited to recognise the faint smell on him from his last visit. In fact, Haru seemed rather uncomfortable about it until he seated himself on the sofa looking distant once more.

The family decided to let Eva and Haru be. And that they'll talk about this stuff with him at a later time..

At the moment.. It would probably be the worst time to.

  • Sitting in front of him on a foot stool, Eva gently asked him to take his shirt off again, with a small blush.

Upon doing so, Her attention went straight to his injuries, her eyes wondering over each and every one.

She lifted up a hand, carefully running her hand over his chest.

There was a sad look in her eyes.

But she snapped herself out of it, reaching for the first aid kit.

She pulled out an antiseptic gel and gently cleaned his cuts with it, flinching in guilt every time he hissed in pain.

She then used a bruise cream on the deep purple marks before carefully bandaging up his torso and arms.

Her hair was tied up into a half pony tail, to keep it out of her face.

She was wearing a white t shirt with a pair of black jeans and fluffy socks.

The t-shirt hung loosely on her, often revealing her collar bone.

She worked with a concentrated look on her face, making sure that her work was at top standards.

When she was finished, she stood up, offering Haru a kind smile.

"Are you sure you're not hungry?" She said. "I'll be happy to make you something."

  • Haru could only watch and persevere as the female was treating his injuries, but he felt immense guilt regarding how she had become rather upset over this.

And how even helping him could.. Could cause her to be-

The male noticed she asked a question and after a moment, remembered ti was about food. He pondered for a while before murmuring.

"Just something light.. If that's alright."

He seemed like he wanted to say more, but he couldn't. He didn't know how to explain what he was worried about to her.

Cause what if.. It made it sound worse.

  • As she started to walk out from the room, Eva could tell that there was more Haru wanted to say.

She wanted to assure him that she was here to listen, but didn't want to pressurize him any more.

As she started to make him a light meal, she thought back to when he grabbed her into a hug back in the pet store.

Her thumb went to her lip as she recalled how tightly he held her.

It was almost as if he was desperate for her touch.

Thinking about it that way made her melt a little.

She crouched to her knees for a minute, burying her head into her hands.

If she could have it her way, she would never let him go back.

  • Haru furrowed his eyebrows, soon attempting to stand up despite the bandages and wandered over to the kitchen, placing his hand on the door frame and looking at Eva.

"Is everything okay...?" The male asked, soon wandering in properly and crouching slightly near her. Was she in pain?

Tilting his head, he placed his hand on hers and ruffled her hair a little bit, not enough to ruin the half-ponytail though. For he liked the look really.

"If you want.. I can wait a while. You don't have to rush or anything. I am fine."

  • Eva looked up to Haru, who was crouched beside her.

    She shook her head.

"It's okay, I'll make you something now."

She seemed to lean into his hand that was resting on the side of her head.

The feeling of it being there soothed her.

  • Haru noticed her actions for a moment and couldn't help but to remain gazing at her.

    Her soft, warm gaze......

Her clean, and casually styled hair....

Her pale, yet gently tinted skin which he rubbed his thumb over...

And her smile adorning her lips..

Things he never really noticed about her until-

The male soon stood up himself and glanced at the stuff the girl was preparing soon for the light meal he was having.

"U-Uh.. Well then. You don't have to rush.. Like I said." He murmured, glancing away for a moment before turning back to her when he leaned against the kitchen side.

"I can help if you need me to."

  • Eva soon stood up too.

    She looked to the food.

"If you'd like to, you can." She smiled lightly.

Shall we do a time skip to when the guys interview her at school?

  • //sure!

The male nodded and joined in, still wondering about what there was to come.

And whether or not he'll be able to do anything about it...

    ________________________________________________________________________

A few days later, and Haru had been staying at Eva's place until things were eventually sorted out. Meaning he wasn't attending school and that Eva was. Soo.. He was home alone a lot of the time with those.... Pets of theirs.

Although, he didn't hear much of what was happening at school either.. Though he had an odd inclination that something may not go perfectly sometime soon.

    And it worried him.

For his parents are desperate leeches.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

"Ma'm.. Is your name Eva by chance?"

A male stopped Eva in the hallway, a teacher alongside them. And he wore a suit with a familiar emblem upon it.

"I have permission to ask you and your classmates regarding the absence of your friend Haru."

  • Upon seeing the man, her stomach DROPPED.

Eva swallowed thickly, her hands forming fists.

"H-Haru?" She said, "I haven't seen him for a few days."

She was not going to give him up.

    Not to anyone.

"You might have to try asking someone else, we're not too close."

She attempted to start walking away, but a tight grip on her wrist prevented that.

She turned to the man, whose knuckles were turning white from holding her.

He had a dangerous look in his eyes.

    Eva lost her breath.

"Come with me." the man said, pulling her into the main reception.

The girl struggled against him, attempting to pull her wrist away from his grip, but failing.

When she reached the main entrance, Eva was pushed to the floor and knelt upon, to prevent her from moving.

She'd hit her cheek on something and felt blood run down her face.

    It fucking hurt.

She felt a cold metal being placed around her wrists tightly.

    She cried out in pain.

Soon after, she was placed in a car and driven away.

    But to where?

At her house, there was a sudden phone call.

Eva's mother picked up the phone, and soon found herself yelling at the person on the other side of the phone, somewhat in hysterics.

She throw the phone down and ran to the door, trying to get her shoes on.

  • Haru stood, moving over to where her mother was and spoke. "What's going on?" But suddenly judging by her being in hysterics and her means of rushing he froze.

"What's happened to Eva?.." He said.

He knew. He knew right away. What was the point in asking.

    "Don't go. I will go."

"HARU I- NO! You can't go!"

"You don't know what my parents are like. They will do ANYTHING."

"I still cannot let them get to you. They cannot use MY DAUGHTER for a way to continue abusing THEIR child!"

The mother was quick to grab everything and open the door.

    "STAY HERE."

    *SLAM*

"Why?"..... Why do they think.... That they...."

    "HAVE TO DO THAT!"

Haru slammed his fist into the wall, yelling at himself for being an idiot. He should have left earlier, he should have prevented this.

FOR F*CKS SAKE NOW EVA IS IN DANGER!

    BECAUSE OF HIM!

"I'M SUCH AN IDIOT!!" The male continued, suddenly rushing the best he could, grabbing Eva's father's clothes, changing appropriately and grabbing what he needed.

    Guilty? Yes. He was.

But Eva was about to be hurt in his stead. He wasn't going to stand for that.

She did so much and meant so much by this point.

    He can't. Leave. Her. Alone.

  • Eva was at a police station, a private one at that.

She was along in a room, her wrists in handcuffs leading to a chain in the table.

She had dried blood running down her face from a cut she had gotten from being pushed to the ground.

Her hands were in front of her, shaking harshly.

The man who had arrested her was in the corner, his eyes on her, his arms folded.

She didn't dare to look at him, and instead looked to the wall.

Her expression was blank, but tears were threatening to fall.

Suddenly, the door opened and two figures entered. #

    A man and a women.

Eva shot them a quick glance before looking back to the wall.

    Haru's parents.

The mother sat down first, staring at Eva with hate.

    Then she slapped the girl.

Eva was shocked, her eyes wide and mouth open slightly.

She looked to the woman with fear.

No wonder Haru didn't want to go back.

    The father then sat down.

He looked much more composed than the woman.

His eyes met hers, and Eva felt a cold wave wash over her.

"Tell me now." He spat. "Where. is. my. son?"

  • "Ma'm-"

"MY DAUGHTER IS IN THERE! PLEASE, I NEED TO SEE MY DAUGHTER!" The woman gripped the male's clothes tightly, her entire body shaking as she sobbed loudly in front of everyone.

"YOU CAN'T TAKE MY DAUGHTER! PLEASE...... I LOVE HER SO MUCH... I.. I DON'T WANT HER TO BE HURT.. ALONE.. WITH YOU MONSTERS!"

The woman began to get weaker and weaker from the constant crying. She was terrified.

She didn't want her daughter to be hurt..

"Ma'm, you cannot enter. That is final. Until Haru-sama is found, your family in under jurisdiction."

"DAMN YOU!!!" The woman exclaimed, shaking the male with all of her might, but alas, he did not move from the spot he was posted at.

"YOU CAN'T TAKE HER! YOU CAN'T HURT HER! SHE DID NOTHING WRONG! YOU'RE MONSTERS! YOU ARE ALL-"

A gentle yet pale hand placed itself on her shoulder.

For a moment the woman froze and thought it was another one of those workers, aiming to drag her away. But it gently patted her, giving an almost reassuring warmth. And near her ear, a soft, monotone yet familiar voice spoke.

"It's alright. I will sort everything out. I'm sorry for what I have caused for you and your family."

Her eyes widened and she felt more tears begin to fall down her cheeks as she covered her mouth to stop her sobbing any louder than she already was. And she soon took a few steps back and fell to her knees as she watched the male who was in the centre of all of this speak to the men in suits who moved immediately, almost terrified to defy him and his glare.

Her mother almost didn't recognise that stare. But when he turned around, and spoke, he held a genuine smile.

"Thank you.. For everything you did. It will be okay now."

    "HARU! NOOOOOOOOOOOO! WAIT-!"

    *SLAM*

The doors had shut on her and she knew.. Haru was... Haru was gone.

    Out of her reach.

    ______________________________________________________

    "S-Sir!"

"Where is the investigation being held?"

"D-Down the corridor to the left sir!"

    "Got it."

    *step*

    *step*

    *step*

    *step*

The male could only imagine the horrible things that were being said. He even clenched his fists at the thought. He hated having to go back to them. But He couldn't risk Eva.. He couldn't risk her and her family's lives any further.

    They were too important.

Damn him for letting this happen.

    *step*

    *step*

    *step*

    *step*

And so, he stood in front of the door, ready to go in and stop all of this.

And do what he must to protect her.

  • It had only been a few minutes since Haru's parents had entered the room.

Eva now had a nose bleed and another cut on her temple.

Her head had been slammed into the table by the guard in the room.

It didn't knock her out, and only stunned her a bit, along with the nosebleed and the cut.

She was panting at this point, blood dripping down her face.

"You've got one last chance kid." The father said, standing up above the girl.

Eva merely looked up to him.

"I will never tell you." She spat in return. "He's safe away from you. You're just a poison."

She stood up too, her wrists still connected to the chains from the table.

"You never deserved him, he is 1000 times the man you will ever be."

She pulled on the chains in an attempt to get closer to the man.

"It should be you in these chains."

After hearing enough of the words from the girl, he pushed her back into her chair, before raising a hand.

But suddenly, the door slammed open.

  • There.. Stood Haru. His fists clenched tightly as he walked in to see Eva had already been horribly hurt.

"H-HARU!" His parents exclaimed, standing in surprise.

"Before you start to spit more bullsh*t...."

He turned round, glaring at them with a gaze of pure, pure hatred.

"Get the f*ck out of this room. I promise I will discuss everything momentarily."

His father moved his hand and his mother narrowed her eyes. "TEN MINUTES. TOPS."

And with that, they pushed past him and shut the door.

    ___________________________________________________________________

"Eva.." The male said, concern in his tone as he quickly went to release her and get her to sit up properly. Crouching in front of the chair, he was gentle in examining the sources of blood and seemed so.. So hurt to see what had happened.

"I should've done something sooner. To protect you and your family."

He gently took off his jacket and wrapped it around her softly, pain and sadness in his eyes.

He lifted his hand and placed it on the side of her head, afraid to hurt her.

"You don't have to worry anymore got it?... I'm gonna sort things out so they can never touch you again.."

He used some stuff he grabbed from the first aid kit to clean the wounds and clean mostly everything up from memory when she did it. Only to then wrap her head the best he could.

Once done, he kissed her forehead softly, bringing her in for a gentle and caring embrace.

"Even if it means.. That this is goodbye."

The doors opened, revealing the men in suits who asked for him to go now that his time is up.

He hesitated, saying one more thing before he let go.

"Thank you Eva.. For everything. It meant the world and.. I can only hope what I do now.. Can suffice..."

At the door, he turned back around and looked at her with a faintly teary-eyed expression.

"You need to.. You need to move on. Become the best vet I've ever seen...

And.. Forget about me with all the mess I have made." It was getting harder and harder to speak.

    He almost shook.

"I'm sorry. Goodbye Eva. Take care."

And with that, two men came in as the door had shut, they assisted her to her mother who was outside, now sobbing as she sprinted to her daughter and holding her tightly.

    "THANK GOD.." She cried..

She not only got her daughter..

    But they lost Haru..

    __________________________________________

Seating himself down, Haru glanced up to his parents who sat there eagerly waiting.

    And after starting the discussion..

It wasn't long before an agreement was made..

With a few slaps made throughout.

    This was what was best..

    It was the only way.

    That's final.
