WE'RE A PART OF THE LOST WORLD,

SO DOES THAT MEAN WE'RE LOST, TOO? —

plot & setting

In this thread, you will step into the role of one of 12 paleontologists, tasked with excavating a new dig site that's, oddly, been abandoned by the previous team that had been uncovering it. When the team arrives at the site, they find nothing too out of the ordinary, just a few bones, heaps of dirt, and the equipment, vehicles and tents left behind by the other team. No one is sure where they went, or why they left, but it doesn't seem too suspicious. But when the ground begins to shake around the second group of paleontologists, and quite literally crumbles beneath them, they find themselves plummeting to their deaths.

Yet, when they awake and find themselves not dead, things quickly take a turn for the worst (as if almost dying wasn't bad enough). Strange foliage surrounds them, and even stranger noises — but what's stranger still, is the fact that they're all now dinosaurs in the Cretaceous Period... the time period that brought with it the end of prehistoric life.

The group discovered something they weren't supposed to, whether they knew it at the time or not. A rift, a tear in time, perhaps. What happened to the other team of paleontologists soon begins to make sense, and it isn't long before they discover the remains of humans — the other team. Why they weren't turned into dinosaurs like they were, they don't know. But they do know one thing, they have to find a way out of the Cretaceous, before the extinction event happens, or before they meet the same fate the other paleontologists did. But this is easier said than done; the longer they exist as dinosaurs, the faster they succumb to their primal instincts. If they don't get out of the Cretaceous and escape back into the present, they could lose themselves forever.

brief human appearance desc. > "Brutally grotesque" would be a very good term to use to describe Dean. Having been in a terrible car accident a few months prior, which nearly rendered him dead, he has suffered a broken leg, and severe lacerations to his face, neck, arms and torso, all of which have since scarred over, leaving his face and body completely disfigured. Using crutches to get around, he seems almost like Frankenstein's monster, or the mad scientist himself. Dean's face, under the deep, vicious scarring, is long and thin, with slender cheekbones, thin lips, and a long, thin nose to match. His eyes are a startling blue, framed by long lashes and thick eyebrows, and his skin is very pale in color, almost ghostly so ― surprising for someone like Dean, who has spent a lot of time outside in the scorching sun, digging up fossils. Dean's overall figure is very bony and skinny, and seems to lack a substantial amount of fat and weight. Long legged, he stands at a striking height of about 5"6. Underneath the scars that litter his figure, one might find a formerly handsome young man, turned ugly by an unfortunate incident. His hair, once neatly groomed, has become a blonde bush atop his head since the accident ― unruly and unkempt, Dean clearly doesn't take care of it, and is content to let it do what it wants, as it often does. Dean is Australian, so his voice is heavy with the accent of someone from the outback.

brief dinosaur appearance desc. > Out of all the dinosaurs, it is extremely fitting that Dean ended up as one of the most misunderstood prehistoric predators of the lost world: Dilophosaurus. Since the movie Jurassic Park, Dilophosaurus has ended up with quite the reputation for being a "poison-spitting" small carnivore, when it simply was not either of those. In all of his Dilophosaurus glory, Dean very closely resembles how he does as a human, just with... you know, more scales, teeth, and dinosaur appendages that otherwise a human should not have. Standing at a height of 5 feet tall, with a length of 20 feet, and weighing a whopping 850 pounds, Dean is a very spooky-looking dinosaur, and is nowhere near the top of the food chain. In fact, he is quite nearly in the middle, or close to the bottom of it. His body is long, slender and scaly, with two short, three-fingered arms, armed with three sharp claws on each end, and a pair of long, thin legs built for running, also armed with sharp claws on all three toes. A long, slender tail sweeps out behind him, keeping him well-balanced. Dean's neck is lengthy and S-shaped with dark spines rising along it as it holds up a long, thin head, with a curved facial structure, and a mouthful of jagged rows of sharp teeth. His eyes are small and amber in color; a large pair of nostrils rests at the end of his snout, and a pair of two flattened, semi-circular crests the color of blue nightshade adorn his skull. The coloring of his scales makes him look almost like a fleshy dinosaur, and his scales really don’t look like scales at all, but skin; at least to the naked eye. His colors are very pale, made up of dirty ivory and light browns, respectively, both of which blend together and create a sort of skin “complexion”, adding to his fleshy appearance.

personality > Dean is certainly not the most talkative member on the team. Much has changed in regards to his overall demeanor; once, he would have probably been keen to never keep his trap shut, and would have been a natural leader, who went out of his way to look after everyone's well-being and overall safety. However, since the car accident that rendered him virtually useless, with aches and pains and many scars, he has grown quiet, reserved, and a bit of an arrogant, self-involved snob that is quick to irritation. He's a real dick. Although it isn't entirely his fault; any tragic accident so intensive would likely damage anyone's mental health, and would no doubt greatly affect their personality. As one would expect, Dean has taken on a great bit of anxiety, and is now a fearful young man, who exerts a lot more caution, and can be extremely prone to cowardice. This is something absolutely unheard of with Dean, and is a startling change, both for himself and those who have witnessed this development in him.

brief human appearance desc. > Senna is a long, broad-shouldered figure, with enough height and muscle to make it clear he's not one to stay indoors - but not quite the type to run around and lift weights 24/7. Looking younger than he seems, short-cropped hair and dark eyes maintain the sense of "tired college student" that he lost only a few years ago. Dust always manages to cling to his skin, and wiping away the - usually red - powder reveals dark skin. Calluses cover his hands and feet, and one ear is tilted out more than the other from his excessive habit of stashing and stacking pencils and pens behind it. Despite his tendency to wear an oversized coat with a broad hood, Senna isn't afraid to show his face. In fact, the mishmash of natural colors and neons in his clothing make it clear he's there to make a statement.

brief dinosaur appearance desc. > Around 11-12 meters long and 3-4 meters tall, Senna is fairly large for his age and species. A distinct, scaly, rounded/humped back and thick tail create a semi-heavyset body, with long, sturdy legs holding it aloft. A slightly humped, elongated neck connects to a stylized head and maw perfect for catching fish, while the front arms are equipped with sharp claws (the thumb especially so, with one foot-long claw on each) for slashing. The long face will take some getting used to, but he's far less likely to throw things now that they stick to his pointy fingers. Although most of his body maintains the standard color shift of browns, blues, and greens from light under to dark atop, his head and neck take on the distinct male coloring of rust and peach.

personality > Senna is an energetic, welcoming person. Even if he doesn't hesitate to judge people, he's happy to put things aside in order to maintain a friendly, passive atmosphere. Most of the time. He is an observer, making quick and abrupt remarks based on facts from off the top of his head. He is loud, and definitely not afraid to express his opinions, but for the most part vocalizes the simple things. Senna has a particularly dirty mouth, but does his best to tone it down around kids. Most of his behavior is brash, and he bases his own worth off of actions and contributions to their work. If someone is upset, he is less likely to hug and console them, and is more likely to go out and get a material comfort object and someone who actually knows how to comfort.

Specialized in marine life both living and prehistoric, he has a particular aversion to seafood, and can be caught muttering about skull structure and hydrodynamics. He loves music, and has a habit of singing lines from older songs. He's a runner, a diver, a parkourist, and first and foremost that one friend without any sense of self preservation. He can drive nearly any vehicle, fly a helicopter, and pilot a boat, but he's had experience with submarines too. Senna's favorite thing to do aside from leaning halfway out of a car is to make skulls "talk". He'll settle for stealing someone's food, though.

Human Appearance:

Louise is a tall and skinny girl. Despite her age, she is probably the tallest of the group. She has frizzy brown hair that she can’t quite keep out of her face, pale skin, and rounded glasses.

Dinosaur Appearance: Around the size of an elephant, triceratops Louise has brown scales to math her old brown hair, long lizard-like claws, and a curved beak. However, her most defining feature are her horns. The two on the top are mostly straight, with a slight curve in the center, and her bottom horn is so small and discrete, some could mistake it for a yellowish bump. (I might have it where, as she gets progressively more feral, her front horn starts to get larger.)

Role: The Gentle

Personality: Louise is the often outspoken one of the group. She is quiet, clumsy, a bit of a geek, and has no clue what she’s doing. She’s quick to panic, especially in what seems like a hopeless situation, but if she calms down enough, she can use her academic prowess to think up carefully thought out plans. Even though she may be awkward and not the best at physical combat, she makes up for it in intelligence, kindness, and she can be motherly at times.

Plots:

-The Dinosaurs form their own group with different ranks and jobs (leader, healer, warrior, etc.)

-The Dinosaurs get stuck in a territorial war between two dinosaur clans, and they might even need to choose which side they want to be a part of

-One of the carnivores and one of the herbivores fall in love, but as their progression into a primal state starts to tear their love apart (Sorry I just think an herbivore and a carnivore falling in love would be funny, lol.)

Other: I read the rules. Also, is it just me or does the concept of dinosaurs acting like humans before slowly turning feral sound like We’re Back: A Dinosaur’s Tale?

The Changyuraptor the largest four-winged microraptorine found it is 3.9 feet long and only weighed 8.8lbs so basically the size of a turkey. Like other microraptorines, Changyuraptor had feathers all over its body, including forelimbs and hindlimbs, which gives the appearance of having two pairs of wings. The presence of long feathers on all four limbs also suggests that these dinosaurs could fly the tail feathers can get up to 12 in long, equalling approximately 30% of the length of the animal's skeleton.They could have controlled these feathers a feature useful for a heavier animal, that would have attained a faster gliding speed as well as a safe for landing.

brief human appearance desc. > sasha is a man of good stature, standing about six foot four, and a weighty two hundred ten pounds of primarily muscle. a thin layer of fat softens his otherwise intimidating appearance, although many are still surprised when he says he's a paleontologist. he has a heart shaped face with a defined, but not edge sharp jawline, high and prominent cheekbones, and narrow eyes with intensely dark irises shadowed by thick, lightly arched eyebrows. he keeps his hair long, letting it fall in near-black waves down to his lower back off the clock, while during work he keeps it a top knot. being a native, non-european, russian his skin has a warm terra-cotta color with rosiness in his cheeks, completely unrelated to burns.

brief dinosaur appearance desc. > it's only too ironic that sasha ended up in the body of a pint-sized herbivore, specifically, the kulindadromeus. as a dinosaur he's only a meter and a half tall, and just under five feet long with about half of his length in his tail. comparative to similar species he has long legs, but a rather short face, and arms. his body is covered in an odd combination of scales and feathers, less refined in that he bears six different scale patterns, and three types of feathering from the feather like dino-fuzz, traditional feathering, and a unique type consisting of feathers with long filaments found on his upper legs. his skin is dark with a iridescent shine, while his feathers, in majority, are copper colored with a dark dorsal line, white bid, and russet colored feathers on his arms and legs.

Alice has always been a go getter she has high ambitions and willingly tries to improve herself and her career. She’s devoted and has great work ethic and works to make every idea of hers a reality. She’s the type of person to never give up until she gets what she wants, even if she has to drag her colleagues kicking and screaming along the way. exeedingly stubborn she doesn’t listen to others input well, she believes it’s her way or no way in some cases. She’s also a bit of cynic deep down.

Though most people she meets label her as intense and harsh she generally in quite charismatic and very helpful if she takes a liking to you. She enjoys helping others when she can and will lovingly take a bullet for you. She’s almost as devoted to her friends as she is her work.

By far her worst attribute his her temper, she’s violtile especially when she isn’t getting her way. Though professional anytime else if she loses her temper she’ll make everyone feel her reckoning.
