  • Sayomi stepped onto the balcony, slipping off his shirt to free his feathered wings and let them stretch. He stepped onto the edge and fell forward, black as night feathers catching the air and letting him glide forward. With a powerful thrust he was pushed into the air, soaring into the midnight sky. Over the trees and hills that hid his home, to the city. He loved the lights. They reminded him of something he couldn’t have.

Swooping down he flitted into the centre of a seemingly empty park. He wished it was easier for him to come here. Truthfully he could come during the day, but it was stuffy and painful to tuck his wings under a shirt. He couldn’t freely enjoy his time out like that.

  • It was probably better not to go back home right now...

Daiana had found herself at the park after wandering the city, one of the few places now that she could go to see the stars without too much light pollution. She had been sitting under a rather large oak tree, dressed in warm, green clothes, her head tilted back to stare into the sky. Her hands fumbled with the end of her scarf as she stared in thought, though she was interrupted due to an odd fluttering sound behind her.

She hesitated, moving all of her dark brown hair to sit behind her before getting up, her bright green eyes scanning the area around her as she stepped out from behind the tree. She should be alone here, considering the hour. Perhaps it wasa bit risky to come here so late without something to defend herself.

  • Sayomi walked around the fountain, examining the coins that had been tossed in for wishes. Humans sure were curious creatures.

Still, maybe it could be fun to try. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out a coin and flipped it into the pond with his thumb. He didn’t exactly know what he wanted to wish for but at least it was fun to ‘play human’ a bit.

Sitting down on the edge of the fountain he turned his eyes towards the city. The glittering lights to him were far more beautiful than stars. Humans had built these glittering cities themselves.

  • Daiana slowly rounded the tree to look into the center of the park, her eyes widening as she caught sight of two large dark feathered wings upon a man's back near the fountain. She stared for a few moments before rubbing her eyes and looking off to the city where she saw him staring, keeping her gaze there before looking back to him. She wasn't dreaming was she? She couldn't be dreaming, it felt too real.

She slowly made her way down the hill toward the fountain, confused and almost in awe. Her shoes, however, tapped softly as she stepped back onto the path, now only a small ways away from the man and the fountain now. Her Eyes seemed to shine from the lights in the fountain, and they seemed to scan over his wings with wonder. At this distance she could tell that they weren't fake, and that they indeed were connected in some way to his back, though she still didn't say a word.

  • He hadn’t noticed the sounds of someone approaching, drowned out by the sounds of water. But the hard tap of a foot on pavement eventually reached his ears. Leaping to his feet he whirled around, wings outstretched to make him appear bigger, like a frightened animal. But all he saw was a girl, nobody else. For a moment he was frozen in place, eyes scanning the surrounding forest, before he let his wings rest against his back once again.

“What... are you doing here at this hour?” She certainly didn’t look homeless. Not particularly dirty or carrying anything much with her. How was he supposed to react to this situation? He hadn’t met her type of human in the park at night.

  • Daiana gasped, tensing up as the man's wings spread out, not seeming to relax again until he spoke. She took a few steps closer, seeming somewhat cautious, now meeting his eyes rather than staring at his wings. "... I-I was simply enjoying the stars." She replied. It wasn't necessarily a lie, but it didn't explain why she wasn't at home.

"...Those are real, then. They moved..." Her eyes went back to the feathers, seeming to watch how the light moved against them for a moment before meeting his eye once more. "...They're beautiful. Amazing, even..."

  • The compliments made him freeze. A human had never called him beautiful before. Not since... he shook his head, keeping himself from remembering.

“Beautiful? You wouldn’t think so if you knew me.” Even though that was normally a sad thing to say, he smiled. This human was rather amusing.

He walked up to her, watching her awed expression with silent joy, letting her eyes wander over the large imposing mass of feathers on his back. Stretching them out again he nodded towards them, giving her permission to touch.

At the top, around the joints were soft and fluffy. The further down you got however, towards his flight feathers, the more hard and smooth they felt. They we’re designed to be able to hold up in the rain so he could continue flying in a storm or ever use them to menuever underwater.

“You can’t tell anyone about me... well not that they’d believe you. My name is Sayomi.”

  • Day couldn't help but smile back at the man, though she seemed to tense once more as he came closer and moved his wings for her to feel them. She was an odd one, her curiosity seeming to overcome her caution, though it was still there. She hesitantly reached out a hand, gently petting his feathers as if she could hurt him if she had touched them too roughly.

"Wow..." she whispered, taking a moment before pulling her hand away again and looking up to him. "I-I'm Daiana, but... Some call me Day for short." She then offered up another warm smile before taking a step back, seeming somewhat sheepish now. "I-I'm sorry, this is... This is really strange, you're... You have wings! I... This isn't some... Dream, is it? I was sure I didn't fall asleep out here."

  • She was still fearful of him, like many humans who saw him for the first time.

“... a dream? Maybe it is.” He turned back to the lights. “Tell me, why do humans build into the sky? I... know that these skyscrapers house offices but... why build up? Why so high?” He looked at the buildings with a similar fascination as her to his wings. Did humans desire flight? We’re the envious of him?

“I suppose... the answer would be a lot less interesting than my imaginings.” Sayomi backed off giving her some space. “So then... ‘Day’, would you like to play a game?”

  • Day followed his gaze back to the buildings, about to give him an answer when he asked her if she would want to play a game, a look of confusion crossing her face and her head tilting to the side in question. "A game?..." she hesitated, looking up to the sky again and then over to the park's standing clock, seeing that it was only so long after midnight. "Well, I have time..." She then sat down on the side of the fountain, looking back up at him. "Um... What kind of game did you have in mind?"

  • “We’ll take turns asking and answering questions. I assume you have a lot of them.” He sat next to her, giving her enough space between them that she could easily get away if he reached for her, treating her like a frightened animal.

“But that’s not all. After someone answers a question we decide if it’s a truth or a lie. If we get caught in a lie then you get a punishment decided by the asker. Don’t worry I won’t do anything mean. Think of it like truth or dare. Besides it’s not like I’ll force you to play or anything.”

  • Day kept her eye on him, nodding as she listened to his words. "...Okay, so it's... Kind of like two truths, one lie..." She hesitated before nodding again, offering up another smile and propping a leg up onto the side of the fountain, hugging it to her chest. "Well... You can go first. I-I'm not really sure where I would start in asking you something."

  • Sayomi smiled, watching her from the corner of his eye as he spoke.

“I’m surprised. Most humans who spot me that I play this with ask me ‘am I high’ and I just tell them yes.” He chuckled.

“Well then let’s start with something easy. How old are you?”

He turned his head to fully look at her. It was hard to tell where his pupil was with such dark eyes. They were eerie and hard to read, twinkling with the fountain light. Something in them seemed genuinely fascinated by this conversation.

  • Day couldn't help but giggle at Sayomi's remark before he asked the question, seeming to think on whether or not to tell the truth, though in doing so, she couldn't help but stare into the other's eyes, finding them strange and somewhat alluring. She managed to rip her gaze away before the silence got too awkward, now staring into the water of the fountain, noticing all the coins at the bottom of the pool.

"I'm 29." A lie. She did seem like an adult, in the physical sense, though her strange way of approaching the strange situation made her seem less mature, or at the very least a woman with her head in the clouds and a strangely absent sense of danger. "My birthday was in the summer."

  • He blinked in surprise. “Your almost 30?!” He couldn’t help but laugh at that. All humans look young to him but he really felt that hard to believe.

“Sorry, sorry. I really hope that’s a lie. I just can’t believe that humans age so slowly now.” He leaned back, trying to gauge her age. “At most I’d say your 20. Am I close?” It was amusing she was already trying to deceive him so early on in the game. Didn’t she distrust him so much? He may have been a stranger but he hadn’t thought that was something personal enough to warrant a lie.

  • Day started to laugh as Sayomi caught her in her lie, giving a nod. "Yeah, I wasn't telling the truth. You've got it about right, though. I turned 20 in the summer." She gave him a grin, seemingly amused by this. "I thought it'd be nice to see how good you would be at this. Or, I guess, how good of a liar I am" She rested her chin on her knee, giving a soft sigh. "But that means I get a punishment, doesn't it?" she asked, giving a bit of a pout.

  • “Yes. That’s the game. Alright then...” He pondered what her punishment would be.

“How about... do three jumping jacks. We’re just getting started so you may as well warm up your body along with your mind!” He said with another soft chuckle. He was glad she was playing along. He likes messing with humans.

“Then it’s your turn, what is it you would like to know about me?” He was sure there were a few questions on her mind about him. That’s why he liked this game so much. They could both learn about each other.

  • Day chuckled lightly and stood up to do 3 jumping jacks. When she finished, however, she didn't sit back down yet, looking up to the stars as she thought for a moment before asking her question. "Were you born with your wings, Sayomi?"

  • Sayomi smiled at her question.

“Are you sure that’s what you want to ask? You won’t be able to tell if I’m lying or not.”

Still he followed her gaze to the stars as he answered.

“Yes. My brother and I were said to hatch from an egg like a bird.”

He didn’t take his eyes off the sky, remembering his past.

  • Day didn't respond for a few moments, simply staring up at the stars before moving to sit down on the side of the fountain again, having sat down a bit closer to him. "I think you're lying... When I try to think of men who turn out to have wings, I usually think of old stories of curses. Well, except for Icarus... Though I hope you've never tried to fly into the sun, and your wings don't feel like wax."
