[Welcome to PROJECT GATEWAY, a fantasy-based roleplay where you are a perfectly normal human until you are pulled through a portal, and on the other side, you are greeted with the sight of a medieval fantasy.

It’s not all unicorns and rainbows, though--you will find extreme danger in the form of man-eating dragons and hydra, and you will have to fight to survive. Luckily, you’ve been granted powers the moment you passed through the portal (the download). Not so luckily, you don’t know what your powers are, how to control them, or the full extent of them.

[1] Be respectful Out of Character (OOC). Discrimination or bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated in the OOC chats.

[1a] Of course, it’s alright within the roleplay to some extent if you have a character with those issues, so long you don’t go overboard.

[1b] And out of respect for other roleplayers, please do not hog all of the spotlight when roleplaying! Let others have some attention as well, please.

[2] Power Playing and Mary Sue characters are not allowed.

[2a] Mary Sue characters are characters who are a: overpowered b: have no flaws or c: both. I reserve the right to ask you to make a character weaker and/or to give them flaws. Flaws and weaknesses are what make a character interesting, after all.

[2b] Giving a character a tragic backstory is perfectly fine, but please don’t go over the top.

[3] This roleplay is semi-literate to literate! I expect proper grammar, spelling, and capitalization from every one of your posts, and at least three full sentences in each response.

[3a] Having no muse is fine, but not too often.

[3b] Of course, typos are okay.

[3c] Capitalization is excused if you prefer to type lapslock, but for god’s sake, please do not Type Like This.

[3d] I don’t expect you to be literate in OOC, but you can if you want to be.

[4] When doing something with another person’s character, always ask for permission!

[4a] Of course, you don’t need to ask for permission for one of your characters to fall in love with another character (or characters, if they are so inclined), but if you wish to enter a relationship with that character(s), you have to ask.

[4b] Likewise, when it comes to killing characters, always ask permission first!

[5] You can have as many characters as you’d like to play!

[5a] Please keep track of all of them as well! I’d prefer if you rp’d them all equally, or as equally as you can manage.

[5b] NPCs do not count here! Since you don’t need a form for them, you can feel free to add them whenever. However, if you want to have an NPC play an important role or give crucial information, please run it by me before you do. If you grow overly attached to an NPC, talk to me and you can make a form for them and have them as a permanent character.

In short: Sorrel is lazy, unmotivated, bitter, too smart for his own good, scathing, and has a morbid sense of humor.

The longer version is pretty much that he’s lazy because he’s unmotivated; he has no reason to do anything anymore. His sense of humor is pretty callous and he can come off as insensitive; although it seems like he might not care if his words affect others, he has a horrid guilt complex and if someone shows signs of being effected negatively by his words he doesn’t apologize, but he does stew in guilt for a while and try to make it up to them. Sorrel’s also a genius, but he and everyone around him all agree it’s wasted talent on him, since he doesn’t have the motivation to do anything, which is the main reason why he dropped out of college.

Nothing really seems to affect him, but it’s mostly just him acting aloof because it’s how he learned to survive. Whenever he feels like someone’s trying to insult him, he bites back extremely harshly, though it’s a bit difficult to figure that out since most of what comes out of his mouth is an insult anyways. Sorrel, despite getting defensive over certain things, never really denies anything anybody has to say about him, since he figures if they see it, it’s gotta be at least a little true.

He doesn’t actually like humans very much, and they don’t like him in return, but Sorrel loves animals, and animals tend to like him in return. Since they don’t talk, and they can’t understand a word of what Sorrel says, he has infinite patience for them. He stops to pet cats in alleyways and usually ends up taking abandoned strays to animal shelters.

Sorrel is actually lowkey terrified of children despite them seeming to love him. He’s too scared of accidentally saying something wrong or hurting them, so he tends to avoid kids, though he’ll never say no to one.

He’s patient, though that’s mostly from his being lazy and just being used to waiting for things. He’s also incredibly intelligent, though he never bothers putting his brain to use.

His biological family is just him, his mother (who’s American) and his father (Italian), but after his father died (when he was four, so Sorrel has no real memories of him), his mother remarried three years later. Those three years weren’t that bad, since his mother had a well-paying job, and Sorrel had always been an intelligent and well-behaved kid.

His step-father had another son, three years younger than Sorrel. His step-brother was never unkind to him, but mostly indifferent; they never really had a full conversation, despite living under the same roof for ten years. However, his step-father showed obvious favoritism, rarely ever even acknowledging Sorrel’s existence, and when he did, it was with scorn; Sorrel got used to it and moved on, until his mom started doing the same thing. Bitter, he pretty much decided to stop trying in school and let his straight As drop to Cs and Ds.

Throughout the rest of elementary, middle, and high school, Sorrel frustrated all of his teachers and infuriated his parents. His teachers all agreed that Sorrel was absolutely brilliant--he scored exceptionally high on tests, PSAT and SAT included--but he lacked motivation and didn’t do any homework or projects. He never skipped class, but he did end up just sleeping through them most of the time. This was an endless source of frustration for his parents, so Sorrel eventually got used to the constant berating too. Only time he ever got any attention at all, anyway, not that he wanted it.

He never actually did have friends either since he didn’t have the energy to respond to anything or to do anything at all, and when he did, it was usually scathing. That was okay with him.

Camellia is mostly closed off, prefering the company of animals and inanimate objects over humans. She loves books, and will get lost in one, oftentimes missing what others may say to her. In social situations, she can sound incredibly stiff as her mother had drilled manners into her and she resorts to them as she's socially awkward. Another thing is that she's not fond of physical contact at all, but shockingly if she's comfortable with you, she'll seek hugs and contact from you, albeit shyly.

Devastated, her mother moved back to China to stay with her family and for work, Camellia going with her. She’s been there since.

Lynx is flirty, cheerful, funny, and clever, though sometimes airheaded. That's everyone's first impression, at least, and that's the face he goes for. Despite being talkative, he actually never reveals much about himself at all. He's much more cold and calculating than anyone ever gives him credit for, and logical to a fault. While he does care about people, and would lay his life down for them, there are only a select few people who he feels that way for.

He wears sunglasses because it's harder for people to read him that way. If you can only see part of someone's face and only hear their voice, really, it gets a lot more difficult to figure out what they're thinking. Lynx also happened to dye his hair white because only part of it went white from trauma/shock, and hid it because that's just the easy way out. And despite his flirty and friendly disposition, he despises physical contact and lashes out if touched without being warned.

He's clever, definitely, cleverer than most people assume, but he can be cruel and insensitive, and is honestly a bit of a coward when it comes to his own feelings and the feelings of others. Lynx takes the easy way out most of the time because the hassle isn't worth it to him.
