    Auburn Cafe

Downtown Mallumville, Oregon - a small town in the middle of Oregon - is where the Auburn Cafe is located. The cafe looks pretty normal, nothing out of the ordinary. Just another place to hang out. They've got a large variety of drinks, even a secret menu if you fin it on the internet, and the same old cafe activities - board game night each Tuesday, open mic nights on the weekends. It's a nice place, but it's hardly notable.

After all, that's what the Auburn Cafe was designed to be - unnoticed. Something you wouldn't look twice at. Because every night after the cafe closes, the establishment becomes a different kind of place. The headquarters for the biggest organized crime service in Mallumville. Their primary service? Murdering for clients. They do other things, of course, any type of crime they'll get paid for. Where did you think they got their money - coffee sales?

    The Cafe

    Owner (1/1): Atlas Wilder

Runs the organization, both the coffee and the killings.

    Treasurer (1/1): Grayson Kennedy

    Keeps track of the funds.

    Public Relations (1/1): Hyejin Paek

Keeps the cafe facade believable, tries to get more clients, and keeps the police off Auburn's tail.

Hitmen (4/5): Kassidee Ginny Foxx, Taylor Hill, Gabriel Lee, Finnigan Moore, OPEN

Do the dirty work, actually pulling the trigger. During the day, they usually work as baristas.

Another day, another shift at the cafe.
It was bright and early, 6:00. Kassi unlocked the door to the cafe and walked in, turning the CLOSED sign to the OPEN one. She yawned - last night had been a late one. She had three victims to track down and kill - a lot for her, since her ways of assassinating someone were a bit less straightforward and took her much longer than some of the other, less subtle ones. She shrugged the tiredness off and jumped behind the counter, throwing on her apron and standing in wait for the rare morning customer, along with the arrival of the rest of her coworkers.

Kassi had nearly begged to get some extra shifts this week. Her father was in worse shape than ever. She was still saving up to pay for that long medical bill so she could actually send him to the hospital, but for now she needed to get him food and pain pills. She glanced around to make sure nobody was in the room and quickly snagged a couple cookies from inside the display for herself - she hadn't eaten since last night.

It is Grayson's belief that since the day she got this job, she has never had a normal morning. In the last week alone, her purse has been stolen, she's been stalked, and repeatedly hit on. Today is no different. Her younger brother had shown up to her apartment at 3 am crying because his dog died while their parents were on their anniversary dinner. Her morning consisted of a furry friend's funeral, but her face doesn't show it. She eventually makes it to the cafe with a fake smile plastered on her face. She adjusts the ribbon tied into her hair so it sits better onto her head and unbuckles her seatbelt.

As soon as she steps out of the car, Grayson notices a familiar face taking a few cookies out of their place. She pads into the cafe and offers the other girl a small closed-mouth smile. "Hey Kassi" She quietly greets her coworker while heading behind the counter. Without another word, she opens the cash drawer and her wallet. She takes out a couple bills, easily enough to cover the cookies, and sticks them inside. She pushes it shut, sets her purse down, and pulls her apron over her head.

    「 i love you — i need you 」

The front door gives a cheerful chime as Hyejin stepped her way into the cafe, her arms cradling an iPad as she tapped her finger pads on it and her face hardly giving way that she was tired. Not a single strand of hair ever seemed out of place for her and that was just how she liked it. Despite being distracted by the pressing matters on her iPad, the Public Relations Manager quickly sidestepped the two girls and weaves her way into the back of the cafe. "Good morning ladies," she greeted them, a signature bounce to her voice. "Hey Kass, I got a new contract for you. Should be pretty easy and straightforward. Lots of money too."

Hyejin pulled a pure white slip of paper from a pocket in her professional looking blouse, and she placed it down on the counter, just next to the cash register. There was tiny writing in blue ink upon it, with the signature curl of Hyejin’s cursive. "The client gave everything you need, all you need to do is the dirty work," Hyejin told Kassidee, leaning hard against the counter and dividing her attention between dialogue and tapping a furious reply to her agents on the deep web. With a sudden clap of her hands, she pocketed the iPad in her bag and gave what seemed to be a genuine smile to both Grayson and Kassidee. "Let’s get this place set up now, and act excited to be here for once!"

Hyejin left their presence in favour of taking chairs from their stacked up positions to the sides of the wall and setting them out at various tables with little effort.

  • Sorry it's short! I'm at school at the moment. I'll have a fancypost tonight.

Atlas had woken up early due to a new contract. A contract that was huge in the work, but also the paycheck. Yet the early wake was debatable on his face, as the straight face he held as he came from the back was usual. His steps we're loud, almost pounding, as her came behind the counter. "Ladies, we're staying late tonight. I've managed to snag us a big catch. Kassidee you can be excused from the meeting but I expect you to get in early so I can give you the run down of it, understand? ", his voice was gruff as he spoke, pouring himself some tea as he tossed about orders.

  • i will also have a fancy thingo set up by sometime tonight/tomorrow

Finnigan Moore was pretty bored this morning, strolling into work three minutes late and greeting those who were already there with a friendly smile, which was genuine as far as she was concerned. "sup boss-man," she waved to him, then spun around before she got to the counter and threw up two hands formed in the shape of finger guns. "how's it shakin' Hyejin? what's good, Kass? heya Grayson." she pointed to each of them with her finger guns.

  • "That is not my name" Atlas snapped, not liking her overly laid back attitude. "And you're three minutes late. How can I trust you to tale assignments of you can't make it to work on time? Hmm? He scolded before sipping his tea. Just as he finished his statement the door jingled as the first customer of the day came in. " Alright get to work. I'll be in the back if anyone needs anything" He told them with a turn on his heel.

    Kassidee Ginny Foxx

Kassidee smiled back at Grayson as she walked into the building. "Hey, Grayson," she said back. Her smile grew much wider as Hyejin stepped in and set down the paper. A nice, big deal. Now this is what she had been hoping for. She looked over the information as a couple others walked in; Finnigan, immediately finding a way to annoy their boss, Atlas. Kassi snuck some finger guns back to her and listened carefully to Atlas' instructions before he walked into the back. Kassi stepped away from the counter as a customer walked in - she would let someone else handle this one - and opted to instead help Hyejin set up the cafe.

Gray smiles at Hyejin semi-genuinely and takes a step back so the two can have some space to plan their scheme. When looking around for something to do, she almost instantly sees a few crumbs on the counter, which is unacceptable in her eyes. She is a major neat freak, which benefits her organization, but really just hurts her daily life. She brushes the scraps into her hand and tosses them into the newly emptied trash can. Her attention is brought back to the people around her when her boss walks in, and the semi-smile/smirk is wiped off of her face. She nods respectfully at Atlas while he speaks.

Once again, her day is knocked off it's course when Finnigan walks in and disrupts the peace. A bewildered look is plastered onto her face as she watches Atlas reprimand her, but it is quickly removed when a customer walks in. After noticing that none of her coworkers are jumping at the chance to serve this irritating jogger that comes in almost every morning. She takes her typical place behind the cash register and plasters a giant smile on her face. "Hello sir, may I take your order?" She asks, already preparing his normal coffee behind the counter. He responds like every other day, so she hands him the order, takes his money, and sends him out the door.

    「 i love you — i need you 」

Setting a chair on the floor, Hyejin glances up upon hearing a bell ring against the door and smiled as Atlas steps in. She stands at attention and gives a mock salute, dramatic and showy in her actions. "You got it sir," she chirps back to him, and then throws some finger guns back at Finnegan. "It’s shakin’ pretty good Finn," she parrots back.

It was too bad that she got snapped at by the boss, but Hyejin could barely stifle the gleeful little giggle at Finnegan’s expense. She hides her laughter with another chair, which she sets at a table to complete the ensemble. She nods at Kassidee in thanks for her help, and watches the interaction between Grayson and the customer between preparation for the morning. "The morning crowd should be in soon," Hyejin comments, almost finished with the chairs and tables in order to complete set up of the cafe.

  • "awe, he's just a sour old man." she whispered sort of loudly to the others, smirking to herself as she stood behind the other register and waited patiently for another customer to arrive. she leaned on the counter, resting her head on her hand and yawned though she had no reason to. Finnigan loved to sleep, and usually got enough sleep each night. last night was no different, seeing as she didn't have a side-job to do. she couldn't help her eyes wandering out the windows, looking at all the cars passing on their way to work.

the door swung open and the bell above it jingled a bit (sorry if there's not a bell there probably is now), drawing Finnigan's attention away from daydreaming. she smiled in her best friendly smile, and greeted the man coming in. he ordered, payed, and left just like any other customer. she knew this was going to be a lazy day, and anticipated the job tonight.

fancypost thing is stilll not finished wow im on schedule

  • 4c08987f521c879c840c89545b44e1f1.jpgTaylor was running a little bit late, their bike giving them a little bit of trouble earlier that morning, causing them to be a little later than they really wanted to be, not that they wanted to be late at all, but if they were late they'd want to be a little earlier than somebody, and for now it seemed that nobody would be later than them.

With the ringing of the bell to signal the opening of the door, Taylor walked in and looked at all the other workers. "Sorry I'm late, my bike was giving me trouble and I had to walk all the way here from my apartment." They tried to explain to anyone who would listen, obviously very perterved about the situation.

  • Before the cafe door could fully close, Mori pushed it back open. Her face popped out from behind Taylor with an unapologetic look, as if her late-fellow's apology should cover for the two. The ombre head simply waved a newspaper as her excuse, suggesting her latest work has made it into the headline. It wasn't like the customers would ever guess the 'unidentified cause of death' was cleaning their tables.

The girl always anticipated such media coverage after a job and would wait for the not-so-early newsboy throughout the following week. A tad bit unprofessional, but what else could she do with such moodbooster? To avoid any confrontation, she made her way to the staff room, nodding her head at Atlas on the way as a gesture of respect. A moment later she came back out--apron on, a wash cloth in one hand, a spray cleaner in another, and started wiping dust off of every surface. "Did I miss anything?" she mumbled low enough not to be heard by customer, but loud enough for a nearby colleage to hear.

    Kassidee Ginny Foxx

Kassidee returned a nod to Hyejin and turned towards Taylor as they walked into the cafe, waving dismissively in the air as if she was waving away the individual's problems. "You're only behind by a few minutes; Just don't let 'boss-man' catch you." She gave Mori a grin as she stepped in after the other and set up the rest of the cafe.

Kassi shrugged at the other girl's question after she stepped back out. "Not much," she said, "Atlas is on edge - like always - and I've got a good deal for tonight." She wasn't afraid to brag about the nice job she had gotten for that night; Soon, the favor would be returned by someone else.

  • »»————- i don't love u i'm just lonely ————-««

finnigan watched as the two entered, smiling as Kass called him boss man. she boredly pushed herself away from the counter and stretched her arms. 6:10 in the morning and 3 of those 10 minutes she hadn't even been working, yet she was so incredibly bored. returning to her hunched place on the countertop she clicked her nails on the surface and waited.

"this is going to be a dull day, isn't it?"

    (c)trexgirl

  • Mori's ear perked up at the phrase 'good deal'. She suddenly couldn't wait for her 'even better deal'. Unnecessary as it was, she perceived such thing as something to be competitive about. Her face turned rosy from excitement when she flashed Kass a smile, mumbling "Good for you."

The pink head shrugged at Finn's words, "I wouldn't conclude too early". Starting the day with low expectations was nice though, since they could be in for a pleasant surprise. She walked over to hold the door for a middle-aged customer, then proceeded to clean the windows.

  • (Working on getting my fancypost now <3)

Atlas heard the young employee's comment about his age, but chose to ignore it as she was young and he could punish her via cases rather than scolding. Then his face twisted into a scowl when the new nickname boss-man seemed to be spreading. He sighed getting onto his computer, one of his hands falling into a fist under his chin, scrolling through other major crime organizations offers for the following month. He usually picked out cases and then handed them over to Hyejin to assign.

It felt like years as he sat there, hunching over his work, occasionally sipping. Then the muscles of his back and shoulder began to winding into tightness and knots. With the newfound gentle throbbing he rose up from his desk, pushing his hair out of his face and heading towards the front room, hopefully to refill his half empty mug as well as to ensure they were on task.

Big hands pushing open the door to be met with the employees chattering, but also dealing with costumers and cleaning. He watched for a moment, like a silent hawk, deciding whether or not he could bump the meeting to earlier in the morning, but decided he'd talk to Hyejin about it before he made a decision. He chuckled at Kassidee's comment before deciding to throw himself into the conversation, as he must yell at all late employees. It's only fair.

"Taylor you're late. I expect better from all my employees. That's how you loose your jobs" there was a definite double meaning when he said loosing jobs, the double meaning clearly representing the loss of kills, "And that goes for you too Mori. I will not tolerate irresponsibility" Atlas continued to scold, before staring into the two late employees souls, while also throwing a glare in Finnigan.

  • 4c08987f521c879c840c89545b44e1f1.jpg"I mean, anything could happen today~" Taylor hummed in agreement with Mori as they worked on their apron behind the counter and looked out on the cafe. Tying up the apron with one cute little bow as they then patted it down and looked at their co workers. "We could serve a prince or a king. Or maybe we'll get some suave business type who'll give us a wealthy tip for their coffee." They laughed at their own wild imagination as they took up position by the pastries behind the counter.

They took on a more serious tone when the newly nicknamed 'Boss man' came into the room, with an obviously not good mood under his belt today. "Sorry sir, won't happen again, I'll fix up my bike as soon as I can. Sir." They said, throwing in the extra tone of respect and politeness to try and win a couple of brownie points from the big man as they cast their gaze downward towards the pastries as they looked up again briefly as a customer came up to them and took his sweet time deciding what exactly it was that he wanted. Man, it was times like this that really made Taylor wish she was out doing something more... Fun. She gripped the tongs in their hand tightly, almost like a knife and looked down to them with an air of longing slightly, sighing. They wanted a new contract, something loud, wet work that wouldn't cause too much of an uproar, even something small, like crashing a party or something else, they didn't know exactly what they wanted, just that they wanted something.

  • 68747470733a2f2f73332e616d617a6f6e6177732e636f6d2f776174747061642d6d656469612d736572766963652f53746f7279496d6167652f53574b74306179574275303662673d3d2d3535363130303035362e313532316266643534656631333565613631313130393235333532392e676966?s=fit&w=720&h=720

    ☾ ɢʀᴀʏsᴏɴ ᴋᴇɴɴᴇᴅʏ ☽

Grayson stays silent while everyone else is talking, determined not to get in trouble once again. It's quite obvious that Atlas is listening and she's going to be staying late with him and Hyejin. If they created tension between the three, it could make that situation very awkward. Thankfully, more customers start to pour in so the conversation will not start once again. She takes another customer's order with a large, fake smile and grabs him a hot chocolate and a latte. "Here you are sir, that will be $5.76" She then takes his money and puts it in the cash register, ready to take the next customer's order.

  • The pink head enjoyed Taylor agreement as a little boost for her ego. But there was one thing greater than Mori's ego: her boss. She immediately stopped what she was doing when he appeared, moreover, visibly irritated. Her hands laid helplessly on her side, expression finally showing guilt. "Understood," was all she could muster as she bowed slightly. That was when customers started flooding in and she decided she should help with the serving. What a fortunate timing for 'escape'. In the blink of an eye, she disappeared into the staff room to prep herself.

A moment later she joined her co-workers serving people in a newfound confidence. Mori believed that since imperfection was not her inherent attribute, restoring her face would not be a problem. Deep down, such thing concerned her greatly no matter how far back she pushed it in her mind. She was all smiles and chuckles noting the order of some teenagers. In her head, she was chanting Starting the day with low expectation is good. Starting the day with low expectation is good....
