  • AZASEIL AND KNITTINGTON

Quietly and uneventfully, a foreign creature slipped through a crack in their own dimension. The disturbance was so minor that it would be unnoticed by all, yielding only a single creature who crossed over without a bang nor a roar. The entity possessed no form to be seen; an invisible presence similar to that of a spirit. Yet it was not dead. It's life had only just begun. The consciousness had only just been brought into existence, and brought nothing remarkable into the dimension. Another entity who had been freshly split from his mother only a few seconds after coming into existence might have panicked, but the creature possessed zero emotions. All that guided the creature was the instinct to use others for the purposes of it's own survival. It was devoid of emotions and thoughts that might be stirred up by one's feelings. It wandered around following it's instincts, although it did not remain hidden within the shadows forever. The abomination encountered an object of interest.

A sparrow was perched upon the ground in front of it, pecking at the grass. It didn't approach the animal, instead observing it's motions in total silence. Grasping it's bone structure, it acted accordingly. A physical form finally began to form where it stood; bones connecting to form a network of limbs that were then coated with layers upon layers of muscles. The avian it needed in order to copy minute details startled, spreading it's wings and flying in the direction of the treetops in order to escape the mimic. Yet with a memory that was incapable of overlooking even a single feature, it no longer required the avian to be present in order to replicate it's appearance. Flesh covered muscle, and feathers covered flesh. The previously invisible being spread it's own wings and also flew up, replicating every motion it had recorded without difficulty. However, unable to process that the avian had landed, it continued upwards mindlessly in it's experimental fashion. Only when it saw another bird startle and fly straight from one tree to another did it cease to gain altitude and flew straight ahead; halting within the branches of an extremely tall tree just as it had now seen several other creatures with similar appearances do.

The avian looked around from it's perch. By it's logic, it would be capable of spreading it's wings and taking itself down if going up and flying at a constant height were within it's limits. Despite being newly born, it already possessed impressive intelligence for a being who wasn't even a year of age yet. It's potential for learning was infinite, with a brain that could process even the most complex features and adapt them to it's own physiology. After a few minutes of observance, it finally caught sight of a bird landing upon the forest floor. It copied the motion and made an identical landing, experimentally pecking the grass as they had observed the first lifeform doing. It reaped nothing from the task, so it raised it's head and waited for something else to occur that it could experience itself. Educating itself was it's one and only instinct.

Azaseil knew nothing magical nor mystical was occurring right under his nose. He'd been wandering the forest almost aimlessly, lost in thought and under the excuse that he'd be collecting ingredients to use in his potions. As such, he hadn't noticed something off about the clearing her was heading into, and the chaotic flit of wings and loud, unsettled cry of birds. What he saw through bicolored eyes was a rather calm sparrow on the forest floor, creening it's head to look around. "What an odd bird." the ocelot said, tipping his head.

  • Noises in the distance caused the sparrow's head to turn towards the larger creature. Where another sparrow would have chirped and removed itself from the creature's presence, it stared intensely at this new, larger form. It's beady eyes swept over every detail of his form and even took note of the scarf that was wrapped around his neck. Without a clear view of his neck that it required in order to mimic him, it could not copy their features despite feeling an urge to do so. However, there was an unobstructed item within it's field of vision that could be resized and applied to it's current form in order to identify it's purpose. Any asset that lay upon the figure of a lifeform was a viable asset for it's own innocent purposes.

The sparrow did not perform yet another grisly transformation from one body to the next, but yellow fabric bloomed seemingly out of nowhere and wrapped itself around the bird's neck. It started out large, far too large. The first fragment of the object obstructed it's vision, and for that reason it vanished and then began reforming once again, adjusting itself to the size of the tiny lifeform. Some of the fabric upon the length turned green as the entity willed it to occur, effectively becoming a downsized mimicry of the scarf that the unidentified being wore himself. A being who made unfamiliar noises, which were also engraved within it's memory but were impossible to understand for the creature who did not possess an innate knowledge of any language.

Woah, definitely not a normal bird. Az watched in amazement as it not only hadn't fled from his watchful gaze but had grown a miniature version of his scarf around it's neck. Blinking, he crouched lower to face the sparrow, eyes wide. "That was cool. You're no normal bird." Az mumured, tails flicking. "What are you?"

  • It noted that the being was capable of lowering themselves without truly changing their own height, which it might have attempted to do itself if the structure of the mammal was similar to the form it had already claimed for itself. It was already familiar with the motion of blinking, but still blinked soon after they did. Their eyes were different proportion-wise, but seemed function similarly. So the bird did another copying act, but instead their oculars changed from a beady black with barely visible pupils to green and yellow. Again, a replica of what the organism possessed. It was already rather comfortable with it's observational skills, and was making discoveries. It could replicate the colors of organisms that didn't look like it.

With this in mind, it decided to try mimicking the color of the organism's fur as well in case they might still function. It looked like an avian copy of the organism, although it would have preferred to create a replica of the creature's body with identical functions. The longer it gazed upon Azaseil, the more ideas it seemed to gather concerning it's own form and made adjustments to it's anatomy whenever it believed the conditions for such a change to have been met. It couldn't understand the noises the other made, but it was aware that it possessed a voicebox. It could replicate the words he spoke, regardless of whether or not it understood the meaning behind them.

"Biiiiird," it sounded out the most frequent noise that came out of the other's mouth. It was awkward to force out, but it could produce a similar-sounding noise. However, it's voice was an exact replica of Azaseil's own as it spoke. It had no other provider of such a sound, choosing to simply replicate the words using his exact tone for it's own purposes. It decided to try out another one. "What?" Again, it copied their tone as it sounded out the more complex string of noises both out loud and within it's mind.

Creepy. Weird. Cool. Those are words Azaseil would use to describe the current situation. He watched in quiet amazement as the bird slowly adopted his traits and features, even speaking in his voice. Was it able to mimic anything physical about him? He was liking this being already. "You're a unique one. Do you have a name, bud?"

  • It blinked again, steadily easing into performing motions. It's one and only focus was learning from anyone who might encounter it. There were still birds within the area, perched within trees. But its now bicolored oculars stared at the larger organism. They were making more noises, each possessing more complexity than the chirps of a bird. They were more difficult for it to wrap it's tongue around such sounds, although it still recalled every syllable that had touched it's ears. It still failed to understand the concept of noises carrying meaning. It's mind had not expanded far enough to process complex procedures such as communicating ideas. Only the outer shell could be processed until it learned more.

"You're," it repeated, having heard the same sound twice now. "You're." It was starting to gain confidence in it's ability to repeat the sounds the organism made. There was also a strange sounding word they made, which it also uttered. "Unique," it spun a string of words that had been used either commonly or close to one another, but had yet to attempt the full sentence. It would be able to recall everything that occurred here, but it required time in order to adjust itself to whatever situation it might encounter.

  • No good deed goes unpunished ! —

Blinking, a look of mild surprise crossed his features as the sparrow, colored after him, spoke words he'd used once more. It didn't seem fully capable of forming complex sentences, but seemed to pick up on repeated and complex words. Smiling, Azaseil decided to try something out. "Sally sells seashells by the seashore." he remarked, repeating the sentence and emphasizing a few words. Perhaps he could teach it to speak?

    "Speech" Thoughts Attacking

  • Sally sells shells by the seashore. The sounds within the sentence were so similar, yet nothing was quite repeated within a single run. Yet the avian only took a few seconds of Azaseil's time to consider the sounds it had just heard multiple times. It recognized that he was repeating something to it, and as he had hoped it learned quickly when paired with the method of repetition. "Sally sells seashells by the seashore." It repeated in the same voice and tone. Without any slip-ups to mimic, it was able to utter the sentence perfectly. There seemed to be a wide variety of things to be learned from this particular organism, from a sudden face movement that caused it's mouth to curve upward to strings of complex noises that shared similarities.

It didn't understand the emotion he was showing, and it didn't feel like it was capable of copying his expression due to the differences in their facial features. It was a clever being, but it was unfamiliar with concepts. It possessed an innate sense of curiosity concerning the mannerisms of those it deemed to be organic, but very little else. But this curiosity caused it to repeat the same sentence again. "Sally sells seashells by the seashore." A thought popped into it's mind. A thought that was provoked by intelligence alone. "Sally shells seasells by the seashore..." the words were so similar that it was able to identify what it believed to be a connection, and attempted to use them interchangeably despite still being unsure of what it was communicating; let alone what the object of it's attention was trying to get it to understand exactly.

  • No good deed goes unpunished ! —

A soft, satisfied purr left his chest as the unnamed bird repeated his sentence back to him endearingly, then was pleasantly surprised when it exchanged shells and sells. If he could clap, he would. "Very good! You're forming cohesive sentences and relative sounding words. I'm surprised." the ocelot murmured, twitching his whiskers in amusement. Sitting up, he tapped his chin with a scarf end. Then, Azaseil chirped, "Let's try something a bit harder. How much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood?"

    "Speech" Thoughts Attacking

  • A noise of a different nature. It once again mimicked the organism in the purring. A strange sound to hear coming from the throat of a sparrow, but it was as it had discovered physically possible to accomplish. It was a strange sensation, but everything it was experiencing was strange within it's mind. It had only just come into existence, and was already beginning to educate itself. Admittedly, the ability to learn seemed to come naturally to the entity. The methods it would have employed in order to survive within it's own dimension were glaringly obvious. Perhaps it was fortunate that it hadn't brought with it the form of some monstrosity, and was instead a newborn who had arrived with perhaps a second of experience within it's own dimension.

You're. It was used frequently, but it was difficult to link it to any scenario in particular. All that seemed to be happening was the act of it copying whatever was provided for it. A conversation and experience of sorts on one end, and a source of information on it's own end. It didn't know why the sound kept appearing, which gave it something to consider. It noticed that a short pause always cut off "you're" from the previous string of noises that the creature uttered. There wasn't enough information. It couldn't determine anything for the time being. It needed more to work with in order to form it's first understanding of the language that was being used.

Now they used two new words frequently and close together, in a similar fashion to what they had done previously. That most likely meant something as well, but it still couldn't make a definite connection. The logic just wasn't laid out properly for them. "Wood chuck chuck. How much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?" As usual, it chose to repeat the consistent string rather than the other ones. However, it dedicated everything to it's flawless memory. It would have mimicked the action he performed with his paws too, but it's wings were ill-suited for the task.
