  • Pierce knew... very little about medicine. He had some very basic knowledge, from spending a lot of time in the medic's den when he was hurt, and being around Lottie a lot, but he'd never had any real training, of course. He loved helping others, but the possibility of holding someone else's life in his paws, being very much aware of how pretty much anything he did could kill them? It was terrifying. So, he left that work to the professionals, but now, Blizzardclan was in dire need of help. Once, they had had people lining up to become a medic. Now? Mija had left months ago, and now Chess had disappeared, too. They had no one in that place, and that was something that needed to be fixed fast, because knowing Blizzardclan, they were going to need a healer for some disaster or another very soon. Fading, who had had some knowledge as well, was gone, too, so he figured he might as well take initiative, even if he hardly knew what he was doing. Someone had to, after all.

The vice-leader stood just outside the medic den, taking a deep breath as he surveyed the camp surrounding him. At his paws were some herbs and other supplies - more advanced medicine, bandages, etc, -, ones he'd identified using some of Lottie and Chess's books, and the knowledge from the occasional lessons his big sister had given him so long ago. This was for her, carrying on what she'd helped keep going so long ago, and it was for his clanmates. Since, let's face it, they'd all die pretty soon without someone to take care of them. Pierce had spoken with Aleksei, and they already had someone in mind for the position of Head Medic, but he figured they might as well get themselves a few more options for medics, just in case. "Hey-" he called, raising his usual soft voice so as to be heard over the sounds of chatter around camp. "Anyone with medical knowledge that might be interested in becoming a medic, come over here."

  • THE MEMORIES OF YESTERDAY ARE NOW GONE / TAGS

Ladon couldn't believe this they where already trying to replace Chesspieces!. Was he so replaceable for them?. They had not even taken out a search patrol for him yet to make sure not someone had taken him just assuming he had gone of into smoke and so thought they needed to found a new one?. Never before had he felt such bitterness inside of him. Ladon had never had any ill feelings towards Pierce but for the first time he felt anger towards him for doing something like this. What he did was taking away his hope that Chess would come back without even consider the possibility here. Ladon knew Chess, he would never leave them on his own decision!. He refused to believe that because if he did let that opportunity sink in that meant he had left him behind, abandoned him without even asking if he wanted to come along with him.

" How could you." Tears streamed down the pup eyes as he stood a bit away as his heartbroken blue orbs glared at the serval for doing this towards him, for thinking so lightly of Chesspieces. They did not cared did they? Everything Feliks had said, everything Sollux had warned him about was true. You are a simple tool once you are not to any use anymore they will simple replace you. His clanmates was the worst. So little had they done, just assuming the worst so had decided to found someone new to fill up his space. All of them were horrible for doing this.

Leaving out a sniff the pup then simple turned around his paws and rushed out from there not knowing where he was going but he was taking himself as far away here as possible. He couldn't stand to be close to anyone of them right now.

  • BlizzardClan always had a deprivation of medics, it seemed, with many leaving or dropping off the face if the earth entirely. Maybe it was the pills talking, but the boy somehow persuaded himself that it would be... helpful if he tried to step up in place of the absent healers. He did have all the time in the world to train himself, and he already had a head start considering his boyfriend owned plenty of medical notebooks Beck begrudgingly helped him study with. The boy was a quick learner when given a good reason, and there was selfish motivation hidden behind his nervous smile to Pierce as he wordlessly volunteered. There was a void in his being, plaguing his mind with boredom. Perhaps the guise of medic training was only to benefit himself with added benefits coincidently assisting the injured and ill as well.

He had hoped to slip into the tryouts unnoticed, but unfortunately, he was the first actual volunteer, aside from the kid darting away with tears streaming down his cheeks. Hoarsely scoffing after Ladon for barreling past his scrawnier frame, Beck flopped onto his haunches to lazily watch Pierce. So sometimes people needed to be replaced, who the hell cared anymore? It wasn't exactly a relevation for the desensitized boy. As if his presence was questionable and needed to be explained, Beck shook his head and finding more interest in staring after Ladon than meeting Pierce's gaze, gave a muffled rasp, "I know some medicine stuff already -- I wanna be a medic, I guess, then." Months ago, the poltergeist would have sorely avoided anything to due with doctors and helping those besides himself. Things changed, even for entities trapped in limbo.

  • SUITE VEINTITRÉS AT THE CHATEAU —

Perhaps it was harsh of him to judge Ladon so cruelly for the outburst, but Milepaw had a reason to. He remembered the kid babbling about how Chesspieces would never leave Blizzardclan during the meeting. The denial was stupid since it was the truth. The medic was gone in search for a new home and this kid did not want to let go of them. Hell, if Ladon loved Chess that much, why didn't they follow the older canine? It made no sense, and it wasn't like Chess was dead, they just moved. Everyone moved. Disdainfully eyeing the crying pup as they dashed away, the pale catsune promptly situated himself in this tryout session. "Not interested in a rank but I wanna learn shit," the pale apprentice would then state his intentions as he shifted his gaze towards Pierce.

    — WHITE LINEN WHITE ROSE

  • The disappearance of Chesspieces had also hit Irene rather hard, as he had been not only her first crush, but also one of her closest friends. She could remember him taking her to see the lake as if it were just yesterday, and now he was gone. And damn it if she didn't feel guilty about the fact that she was now interested in his old position... But she couldn't help it. Healing had been one of the only things that Irene had ever been truly passionate about, and it had been a huge part of her life back in Sunclan. It was what helped her form bonds with Suga, Hexane, Angeldust, and even Chess himself. Once she was put into the position of Goldenblood of Commune, the femme had thought her chances at being a medic were gone. So when Pierce's voice called out to the clan for any interested in becoming one, she couldn't have showed up faster. The girl's cheeks flushed slightly and her amber gaze was slow in meeting the vice-leaders as she murmured softly, "I was in the medicine guild in Sunclan.. and I would be interested in being a medic." She would love to, really, but felt it would be best to keep her enthusiasm to herself for now. Best not to get her hopes up. And maybe Ang would come too?

  • Swiftly after the appearance of their friend, Angeldust did meet Irene's expectations and arrive at the call of those interested in becoming a medic with gentle intent visible in their sapphire gaze. Something Angeldust had poured abundant effort into achieving under the apprenticeship of Sugaredpoison. While the silvery kitsune didn't like to think of themselves as worthless without the medical knowledge in which the Blizzardclanner crammed, it was something the kitsune took great pride in showing off even when they were the head of medicine in Sunclan.

Coming over to settle beside Irene's multi-hued form, Ang's gaze drifted over to the only other member who had epressed interest - a small sense of surprise washing over Ang as they found themselves looking upon the distinctive appearance of Beck. While Angeldust was idly aware that the ghost did have a good portion medical knowledge - it wasn't something Ang had expected. But the ghost was always full of surprises. "I'm the same, I'm interested in any medic-orientated position."

  • Approaching quietly Lucas found himself standing far from Angeldust, eyes focused on Pierce. "I'm also interested though I don't have any clan expierence," he said, though it was untrue. He had been the former head medic of Sunclan, much like Angeldust. It wasn't like he could say that though. His former ranking didn't matter though, his medical knowledge and desire to help others did. Months of studying and a personal interest in herbal remedies left him suitable for the job, as did his ability to work through almost anything. Death, tragedy, self sacrifice, he could do it all, and he had.

Keeping his attention on Pierce he fiddled with the corner of his cloak, claws gentle as he looped the cloth around them.

  • Ladon was greeted with a sweet smile as he approached Pierce, tail giving a small wave behind him, until he noticed the expression on the younger male's features. Oh god, hadn't he been close to Chess? Like, really close? Pierce knew what it was like to lose someone you cared about, to feel as if they were being generally overlooked, replaced, forgotten so soon after their death or disappearance, particularly with Lottie, but he'd been an adult when all that happened. Ladon was just a little kid. Chesspieces wasn't even dead, as far as they knew, but he doubted that'd be any help to the boy. As the canine addressed him, voice quaking and tears spilling down his cheeks, the serval tried to calm him down, speaking gently, "Ladon, sweetie, I-" but it was too late, and the boy had run off before he could do anything. Seeing as people were already approaching, Pierce couldn't go after him, so biting his lower lip, he sat back, offering each person who approached a nod and a slight smile. He hadn't expected Beck to be interested, but then again, it had been a while since he'd last seen the poltergeist - a lot could have happened in the months he'd been gone. And Miles wasn't interested in a position. Okay.

As Lucas - he didn't really know him, but he seemed nice - addressed him, Pierce offered a soft smile, tilting his head slightly to the side to listen. "That's fine!" he said lightly, tail curling around his paws as his emerald gaze flicked over those gathered. Four people, plus Miles, who was just here to learn. It wasn't that bad, though he could remember how high in demand the position of medic had once been. Beside him was a little mannequin made from what looked to be a few different sacs and pillow cases sewn together and stuffed with leaves, one he had stitched together the night before, for them to practice on. It... wasn't pretty, but it had a torso, a head and neck, and legs, so it was good enough.

Glancing down at his supplies, he grabbed a few things - simple bandages, some rush, and a few other plants, some "tricks", like the mint and the juniper berries he'd got, and others that would actually be useful, like a bit of comfrey and some some broom. All the herbs were prepared as if for a poultice, though he hoped the others would be able to differentiate them. He'd only gotten everything in very small amounts, so as to not deplete the already small medic supplies, but he wanted to see what all these people knew, and how good they were at executing it. By no means was the vice-leader a medical professional, but he remembered what his older sister had taught him and had studied a bit before this, so he at least knew all the theory. "Can anyone show me how you might treat a broken bone?" Pierce nudged the little person he had made forward as well, taking a step back to let the Blizzardclanners have at it.

  • "I can, and I assume a broken leg or something like that?" Lucas said. There was multiple types of fractured bones and where the bone was, well, it all went into how one treated it. So, he just went to the most common type, or more what came to his head. Stepping forward he said softly, "may I?" Glancing to the doll he smiled and looked back to Pierce, "that's pretty cute." He said this with a small smile and a slightly humorous tone. Turning his attention to the task at hand he grabbed the bandages before walking to the mannequin.

Quickly and without pause Lucas carefully wrapped the bandage around the mannequins leg. Pausing he looked up and said, "I'd then give them something to help with the pain. Dandelion maybe, chamomile. Or poppy seed maybe, I imagine that'd do the trick. If the skin was broken I'd clean it with water, probably some kinda antiseptic around the wound like garlic, and put on a loose bandage." Was there anything else? "I can name some more stuff that'd help with pain." He hadn't exactly been thorough. Was he supposed to be detailed? Well, duh. Stepping back he glanced to the other people looking to show their medical knowledge and nodded politely.

  • The first task was something simple and easy, which was quaint. The mannequin in which the volunteers were bestowed to "heal" as such was also kind of crude, but Angeldust could admire Pierce's effort. It wasn't as if the vice-leader was a medic, so he had to be given at least some leeway.

Watching Lucas come forth Angel stayed behind to watch the boy and his work, his vague assumptions giving way to a solution that would be somewhat precise and accurate. "Obviously one would assess the situation but as Lucas stated, we're to assume for now. May I ask though, what kind of fracture did you have in mind? There are at least five and some don't require much more than an ice pack and long rest. While others could require external fixation." Disdainfully Angeldust added their own two cents on the issue seen as how there wasn't much more that could be done with the mannequin. "Also give that poor sack of feathers some morphine. Preferably extracted, but poppy seeds are fine too. And if we're feeling extra cautious, maybe give some advice on a high-calcium based diet"

  • I'VE FALLEN AND I CHOOSE NOT TO GET UP —

"Open fracture, whole pieces, try to reset it, bind it and brace it, give them something for the pain, make poultice for infection, wrap and do regular check ups. Broken pieces, salvage what you can, same thing. Closed fracture, bind and brace it, something for pain, infection treatment, wrap. Treat for shock in both cases, form some kind of treatment plan, yeah? Help them adjust to limping around and all that," Nicklaus would offer gruffly as he wandered over, old bones cracking slightly. Huffing, he'd continue, "I've been practicing medicine my whole life, sonny, and I'll keep practicing medicine whether I'm an official medic or not. I am old and all, but I've got lots of experience, so I guess I'm interested in the position."

Oh... he had a doll thing to practice on. Whoops. Looking at the materials provided, he raised a metaphorical brow, huffing again, "I'd use a relatively straight stick as a brace, or the rush you have there, comfrey for the pain, and some of that broom to help it heal faster. I like to carry lavender and such with me as well, to help calm them down and such. All that, put some dried oak leaves on top if it's an open fracture for infection, then some horsetail tea to strengthen the bones." that's all he could think of for the moment, so he remained quiet.

  • What the others had to offer instead of him was intimidating, to say the least. Two of his apparent competitors were from a medicine guild, while he had his suspicions on the other, and the last was a damn doctor. Would he even be accepted? Anxiety was obvious in his face as he listened and watched the others' procedures, storing their instructions away for his own benefit. Broken bones were easy to notice and easy to handle, unlike irreparable internal damage.

Hesitating slightly before noticing there was an opening for him to blurt out an answer, Beck gave a hitching sigh before rattling out his own method, trying to ignore the prior suggestions. "Well, I had to fix my own 'fractures', uh, back when I was, you know, alive. Just clean it up if the bone pokes out, line it up and set it as best ya can, do that binding thing they're talkin' 'bout and use, like, a sling or brace to keep it from moving and making it worse. I guess y'all can use seeds or whatever for pain, if ya can't handle it. And the herbs..." The boy paused, squinting down at the supplies of nameless leaves at Pierce's feet. He knew how to identify them, mainly because he spent most of his short-lived time in a forest teeming with foliage, but the names were lost in translation for him. "I, I actually dunno what the herbs are called in English, though, but you could use that one, with the kinda-typical leaf shape for makin' it heal faster -- the rest don't do nothin' but add more and more things onto the injury. Guess if they ask, ya can give them things for pain. Oh, and I saw a show once where they used ice to help the swellin'."

The poltergeist hoped it was enough, considering he was unaware of the medical lingo that the others were fluent in. Should he mention that he had watched a lot of hospital shows before he stumbled into the clans? They probably didn't even know what a hospital was, considering they were still using plants and not the fancy drugs like on television. Tracing nervous circles in the soil, his auburn hues glancing up at Pierce in wait for any sign of approval.

  • leviathan was not one for excelling in the medical arts. his past history was brief because to be fully honest, he had always depended on either angeldust's talent or other medics that knew what they were doing. he had managed to figure out a few things when angeldust had ran away to the sanguine ruins, his own bloody paws attempting to stop wounds from fights and battles. he was a fighter, coming from the section of warfare back in sunclan and had been considered one of the best fighters there to the point he ended up becoming the goldenblood for the entire warfare guild. the former leader could end a life very easily but to save one through medicine...that was perhaps his biggest struggle. perhaps this would give him a chance to at least learn some procedures and steps.

the broad shouldered shadowy figure of leviathan followed shortly after the familiar apparition of beck, his stoic bullet gray eyes flickering briefly towards the freckled creature and noticing the new "feature" on his appearance. beck seemed a bit uncomfortable and if beck caught him watching, levi would offer a curt nod before stalking towards the taller form of angeldust. once he wove his way through, the charcoal japanese bobtail seated himself beside the kitsune, his dark fur gently mingling with his lover. he remained silent, obviously only here to listen and observe, not to try for a position in medicine due to his inexperience or interest.

  • Beware the broken girls. They've learned how to survive —

Charity had absolutely no interest in being a medic, nor did she have any medical knowledge. She was merely here to listen in and learn from others. She was an ambitious vixen, but not in this field. So she shows her participation by laying down yards away from the group with her head on her paws, doing what she does best. She observes. There was no reason to speak. She didn't have any friends here anyways, so there was no reason for her to waste her breath.
