  • She'd arrived in the city by boat. It had already been a trip into new boundaries, what with her first boat ride and all. But the first time she saw Republic City, soaring above her with its buildings and skyscrapers, that was when she'd truly begun to feel small. And to miss her home.

Verene had stepped off the docks, clutching onto her few bags of belongings that she'd been able to bring with her on this... trip? Move? She wasn't sure how long she would be staying in Republic City; no one had told her as such. The young girl had glanced around as she stood on the docks, people streaming around her. She spared a hesitant glance at the silent guards who had accompanied her all the way from Chen Village, but it was clear that they were going to offer no advice. However, the crowd parted, and a dark haired woman strode purposefully towards her. Verene thought maybe this woman knew who she was, and her suspicions were confirmed mere moments later when the woman stopped, bowed deeply in respect, and greeted her with, "Avatar Verene, welcome to Republic City." And that was just about how she had ended up standing in a sprawling compound located near one of the city's large canals.

Shortly after their meeting, the woman had introduced herself as Nylah, and the pair had set out into the city. Verene's guards had disappeared at some point, but she barely noticed as she followed Nylah through the towering walls of buildings around her, albeit numbly. It was all very hard to take in. They'd arrived at the compound, which had several different areas outside that certainly looked well-equipped to train in all types of bending, but Verene didn't get to see very much of it. Nylah had taken her through winding halls in order to show her to a barren looking room, in the doorway of which they now stood.

"If you'd like, we could go out for dinner this evening after you get settled. It would let you see some more of the city," Nylah suggested with a kind smile. Verene didn't remember agreeing, but apparently she had because they did go out that night. Verene had just finished unpacking her few precious belongings (three books; one of haikus, one about animal species, and one full of flowers she'd pressed, her prized tea pot, a picture of her mother, her favorite vase, and assorted clothes) when Nylah came to retrieve her and show her out.

    ~

And that had been her first day in Republic City. It had been three days since she'd arrived, and she was supposed to be starting her training soon, as well as meeting the bending masters who would be distributing said training to her, a thought that scared her. Nylah, as she'd learned, was apparently her guardian of sorts while Verene remained in Republic City, and the woman had yet to leave her side out in public. Currently, the Avatar and her guard were hanging around one of the local and very sunny parks. Verene had wanted some time to be immersed in nature after having spent the past few days surrounded by the very strange city. Currently, she was seated near the edge of a pond, halfheartedly tossing little bread crumbs into the water in order to feed the koi fish there. She was clearly distracted though, lost in her own thoughts about her impending doom --- er, destiny.

Nylah stood a few yards away, under the shade of a tree. She had a sheathed sword at her waist, and though she looked casual, she was clearly on alert. It did appear, however, that the older woman was trying to give the Avatar some space.

  • Jhin the Enigmatic Airbender

"Didn't give you much of an issue, did he?" A middle-aged man asked a small boy as the two made their way to a covered manhole at the very end of an alleyway. The boy cast the man a glance, and shook his head. "You still don't talk much do you?" The man asked with a quiet chuckle once they reached the manhole. The two crouched, turning for a moment to make sure they weren't being followed. The two slid the cover as silently as possible, revealing the opening to a sewer. One would be able to see a large motionless burlap sack. "Alright, I'll bring him on over to the big guy. Nice catch, kiddo." The man hopped into the opening, quickly swinging his right arm in an arch above his body, slamming the cover shut.

The boy stood up, his civilian outfit standing out in the sunlight. To help blend in as an everyday civilian, he wore a simple pair of black pants with a gray shirt that fit to his torso. His shoes were black boots, kept in pristine condition. While this outfit was a bit uncomfortable to wear, Jhin understood the reason behind it. Being caught or even watched would put Fang at risk. He left the alleyway, eyes pointing up at the clear blue sky decorated with puffy clouds. His eyes focused at a nearby marketplace, across from Republic City's park. There shouldn't be any harm in stopping by the marketplace to sit down for a cup of tea? After carefully crossing the street, the boy with piercing citrine eyes entered the park as a shortcut to his destination. Jhin took note of the park's wide open area, not filled with too many people today. To his right, was a woman carrying a sheathed sword. On his left not too far away, was a girl about his age feeding fish in a pond.

    Songin/Norrin

Some days even their eccentric adoptive mother found it difficult to handle them, especially when she and her company were intensely working on a big new project or other pressing matters occurred. Those were the days the twins were shoved outside with some pocket change and told to explore, and today happened to be such a day. Both Songin and Norrin knew of the Avatar coming to Republic City and of the request made of their mother, thanks to the awful habit they made of peeking into their mother's business, so today they complied without any arguments or complaining. They knew it would arouse the suspicion of their mother, and their peeking situation would soon be uncovered as a result, but the girl's possessed enough common sense to know when their mother meant business; besides, who got to say they taught the Avatar? The girl's could barely contain their surprise and pride when they found out, albeit Songin would never admit to such a thing.

Thus they found themselves wandering about Republic City without a clear cut plan or even the slightest idea on how to occupy their time. Norrin slyly suggested to her sister that if they were to take a walk, maybe they could enjoy the air in the park, an obvious ploy to go somewhere where she could practice her airbending that was swiftly picked up by her sister. Songin felt the boredom growing already, but seeing as she had no other idea on what to do, decided she could spend the time working on her own thing while letting Norrin practice to her content. It would just cost a bug in her food later. Content with the other, the two were on their way and made it to the park, then looking for a place to practice and generally seeming to ignore everyone that they passed in their self-involved conversation, even initially ignoring the openly armed guard and girl. It took a hot second for it to register and they booked it to gain distance again, wary of such weapons after their time on the streets. With a second and calmer outlook on the situation, they pondered what exactly was going on.

    Roka | Firebender | Catgators

All morning held the heat of training, almost literally with my firebending, and now was a well deserved break. Oh man did I work hard today and it wasn’t even noon. Ok fine, we worked hard today. Now you may know me from the radio or pro-bending matches. Ha, that’s right, it’s me in the flesh. Roka of the Catgators. The greatest pro-bender to ever live! Now I know what you may be thinking; ‘But Roka, your team helps.’ Yes yes, but I do most of the work. They’re just my backup in case I get in a pickle. ‘But Roka, you haven’t won the championships ye-‘ Shut up subconscious! I’m working on it!

I sucked up the berry smoothie through the straw and savored the icy taste on my tongue. The vender said it was strawberry and leche. An interesting mix, but an awesome taste nonetheless as i swallowed it. The cup was cold in my left hand as I lowered it from my face contently. What was I doing right now other than slurping on a smoothie? Walking through the city park. It was fairly warm today, so I stuck with my normal outfit of my black and red vest. And on my right shoulder sat Vasco; my Messenger Hawk that my father gave me several years ago.

He sat silently there, watching the surrounding people wander about the grasses and the animals scurrying around. Not to brag or anything, but I was sorta a big deal. Oh man, all the autographs I have to hand out for my rowdy fans...ehehe. What? Fine. No one came up to me for that. Happy? My boots crunched on the grass almost silently as I walked. There weren’t many people out right now on the paths. I did see a girl and a woman up ahead by the lake, and several others making their way through. Wait. Was that girl feeding the fish? Huh, I wasn’t sure the police would like feeding the animals. Aquatic creatures. Whatever. I hated water anyway. I didn’t even care if she got in trouble.

Claws detached from my shoulder and my hair was thrown up by a puff of wind from wings. I raised my hand to wave it away and suddenly I realized there went my bird flying towards the pond. “Vasco! Get your feathered-tail end back here!” I picked up the pace into a jog, but my Hawk was always faster. The red bird landed next to the pond several feet from the girl and curiously waddled and hopped forward towards the edge to peer at the fishes. His head tilted to the side as he watched them. I knew what he was doing. “Vasco, dont you dare eat those fish,” I warned. Man I really didn’t wanna deal with talking to these strangers. The girl wasn’t half bad looking...heh. Ignore that! And then Vasco had the nerve to look back at me with those beady eyes and then ruffled up his feathers in defiance. The audacity of that Hawk!

  • Now, recieveing... questionable looks from people isn't something Juneau isn't used to, but this just tops the cake.

Maybe it's because of the Mongoose-Dragon behind her, sniffing at a rather bland rock that is shoved aside by her boots, but she digresses.

Republic City seems just as she'd expected it; big, smelly, and just like any other industrial manhole. The technology is certainly something intriguing, but technology only ever seems to be worth bothering to pick apart when it's coming at her from a thug or some other poor sap that deems it wise to pick on the water-bender. She came here for work; simple as that, and coins come clanging in clamors when you come to a city like this, gurgling and boiling underneath the calm surface. Truth be told, she'd rather be on the outskirts of the city where the people were rougher and the shops seedier, but a bit of sightseeing before getting involved as a hired Triad or bodyguard is typically a good thing. A lower profile would be easier to keep if she hadn't brought Jormun along with her (Mongoose-Dragons being a very rare find, indeed, nowadays) but such things blow over in a gossiping city far too quickly for her to truly be bothered. It's almost like a vacation for her, if she really thinks about it.

Deciding to take the idea to heart, she takes hold of Jormun's reins and leads him over to the park area. He immediately perks up with the sight of a pile of flat rocks in the park, and as soon as she lets go, he skitters over to the steppes and basks in the sun, splayed and happy. Shaking her head, she sits atop his back and enjoys the sun for now, if only for a little while.

    (Low, lazy muse.)

  • Nylah's eyes flicked with sharpened clarity over to a thin boy with rather well-kept clothes who had just entered the area. She had chosen her vantage point under the aged, old tree with careful precision; it enabled her to have a full view of the area around Verene, and all of the directions from which someone could approach the young Avatar. Additionally, the tree allowed the swordswoman to keep of the facade of a casual day in the park, at least to some degree. And if she leaned her back up against it, she was also protected from a direct attack from behind. Of course, someone could come at Verene from the other side of the tree, where Nylah couldn't see, but the perpetrator wouldn't get very close before Nylah would be able to identify their intent and strike them down.

This boy, however, was the first person to come anywhere near them all day. Nylah had seen him coming from a distance, noticed as he'd crossed the street towards the park, and her focus had zeroed in on him the closer he had gotten. Of course, he didn't seem to be malicious in anyway, just an average, albeit quiet looking teenager. Still, Nylah knew better than to disregard anyone as a threat, especially by now. As such, she kept her eyes carefully trained on the boy before carefully scanning the area some more. If this boy did have dangerous intent, she wasn't concerned. Nylah felt she could subdue him if necessary.

She did, however, remain from placing her hand on her sword hilt. It was a common intimidation tactic she employed, one which worked often on easily-identified low-life criminals, though if it would scare this kid, she didn't know. now would she. As she had been standing contemplating the situation, she had noticed two girls, very similar in appearance and stature, hustling past Nylah herself rather quickly. At first, the sentinel glanced the way they had come, trying to identify if something had startled them. It took her a moment before she realized that perhaps it was the sight of an obvious bodyguard that had done as such. The exchange was a good reminder of one thing; this was a public park. There were civilians present. And the majority of these people were probably not out to hurt the Avatar.

As such, Nylah exercised some self-control and kept her hand away from her sword. She plastered a placid expression on her countenance, making it seem as if she was at ease, simply enjoying the day. However, if someone thought she still wasn't actively alert, they were certainly very wrong.

A few feet away, Verene was still half-halfheartedly tossing bread crumbs to the koi fish, when the sound of footsteps drew her attention. Her head turned as she glanced over her shoulder, looking upwards from her seated position to see a boy was walking across the grass a few feet away from her. Although he looked to be about her age, she quickly turned back around, hasty to avoid eye contact. Her face warmed in embarrassment. Had he seen her looking at him? Had she offended him? She hadn't wanted too, she just didn't ever know what to say to someone she had never met before, so it was just easier to avoid conversation altogether.

A moment later, however, the sight of a Firehawk landing near the pond drew Verene's attention. She jumped at first, startled by its sudden appearance and the sound of ruffling feathers. Once she'd recovered from the initial shock, she stared at it, fascinated. Apparently she recognized that it was looking at the fish, because she thrust her forearm out without a second thought, crumbling bread held in her hand. "Would you like some?" she asked cheerfully, hoping to draw the bird's attention to her. She had never gotten to see a Firehawk in person before. "Where did you come from?" she asked the bird, clearly talking to it. "Did you...." However, the words died on the blonde-haired girl's lips as she heard someone calling out. Verene glanced up, and saw a boy hurrying towards her position. She noticed the bird seemed to be looking at the newcomer boy, and as such, she deduced it must be his. The hand holding the bread faltered at the sight of a new appearance, and she dropped what remained of the loaf on the grass. Verene stood up hastily, her hands folding behind her back without her knowing as she seemed to shrink in on herself. "Is--" she stopped and swallowed, her mouth having dried up. "Is that your Firehawk?" she managed out in a small voice, sparing a small glance down at the bird, mostly to avoid making eye contact with the guy.

She shifted unsure of herself, and as her eyes scanned anywhere but the person in front of her, they caught an amazing sight. A Mongoose-Dragon! Sunning itself right there on some rocks several yards away! How had she missed such an amazing creature come in? Of course, she had been rather distracted by the fish, but still. Verene knew such beasts were an amazingly rare sight, and she wanted nothing more than to rush right over for a close-up look. Several things stopped her, namely the guy who was approaching her, but Verene also noticed a woman seated on the mongoose-dragon's back. That made sense, she supposed. Why else would such a rare creature be in Republic City if it did not belong to someone? And Verene knew for a fact that she absolutely could not go over and talk to a woman who looked so confident, she the girl tore her eyes away from the rare beast and, finally, she looked to the boy who had been calling out to the bird, waiting to see if, indeed, the Firehawk belong to him.

    Roka | Firebender | Catgators

While Vasco eagerly waddled after the tossed aside breadcrumbs in the grass, I was left to clean up his mess. As I drew near, the girl quickly stood up as if I startled her and I came to a stop. What was her problem? Hadn't she seen a good looking firebender before? Of course the first thing that came up in conversation was Vasco, not 'oh my, aren't you that smoking firebender from the Catgators?' or 'hey, aren't you famous?' Did she not recognize me or was she just slow? Cause all the young ladies loved me.

"Yes, yes, that is Vasco." I gestured hastily to the bird pecking at the crumbs with my free hand and sent a little glare his way. "Glutonous bird." Vasco looked up towards me and gave an angry screech, fluffing his feathers up, then going back to his business. I rolled my eyes and went back to the girl, idly sipping again at my smoothie. "Who cares about firehawks when you got the Red Hawk right infront of you, eh?" I offered a lopsided grin and spread out my arm. "What? Don't recognize me? Well, I'm pretty famous around these parts, if I do say so myself..." I lifted my smoothie up to continue my conquest to finish it. Man was it good. Surely she knew the nickname right? ...right?

    Songin/Norrin

As the two pondered, Songin perked up when she seemed to recognize a new face joining the ground and letting herself scowl as a result. Now, as their mother had been a Pro-Bender for the longest time before she adopted them, at least what they had been told by Ahan herself, the twins watched a lot of the sport with their mother and heard of the news constantly as their mother kept up to date.

"Norrin, try that sound trick you showed me the other day, I think I recognize the boy." Songin directed with intense brown eyes; Norrin obliged willingly and raised her hands to make a few gestures before they suddenly had sound from the conversation that they otherwise wouldn't have been able to detect. It fluctuated dependent on whether a breeze was coming through and Norrin's concentration, but enough of the conversation came through.

".....this is Vasco. Gluttonous bird. Who cares about firehawks when you got the Red Hawk in front of you, eh?"

"Is that not...?" Norrin started at the voice before stopping herself as it was confirmed by the nickname. For once she agreed with her sister's scowl but refrained from mimicking it. They were familiar with what they saw as a cocky newcomer in the field of Pro-Bending, and again their talents for peeking into others business while in the stadium (they explored because of surprising leniency for the kids of such a former star and current contributer Ahan) gave them hints about the athletes true personalities, and this guy took the cake from what they had seen this season. Norrin did attempt to contribute to the boy's overwhelming confidence that also allowed him to contribute so much to his team, but Norrin realized how wishful that train of thought was with her current knowledge about the boy.

"We should probably take our leave before he notices-----Norrin, look!" Songin felt her initial desire to leave dissipate in the breeze as she noticed the Mongoose-Dragon a little further away. When had that gotten there? Such a rare specimen! The girl felt a familiar tingle as she watched it shift ever so slightly on the rock, and a notebook whipped out from somewhere in her clothes so she could start taking observatory notes. Norrin rolled her eyes in affectionate exasperation, fixing her clothes and hair from the wind and deciding eavesdropping on the conversation would keep her busy and interested. She could do her own thing while Songin did hers, that worked for her.

The pause did give her a moment to think of how much she already sympathized with the girl as she noticed the obvious dislike of social interaction and of her own personal bias towards what she currently thought of the Red Hawk. Maybe Norrin could continue eavesdropping so she could jump in the help he girl.....? Though what was with the armed guard? Maybe that wouldn't be a smart choice considering......

  • Sunbathing isn’t her most typical hobby, seeing as she prefers a colder climate, but even she cannot deny the wonderful, relaxing benefits of it.

That is, until, she feels a particular pair of eyes leering in her direction.

She shifts uncomfortably atop Jormun’s back, feeling the giant lizard-rodent twitch nervously. Taking a moment to pat his scaly ribs, she subtly opens her eyes and scans the crowd. A girl at the pond— no big deal, doesn’t seem invested enough to state a hole into her back, a man beside her slurping a smoothie (probably too caught up in flirting or whatever he’s doing), a guard who doesn’t seem to give two hoots about her existence (much to her pride— it takes hard work to appear earnest and not-dangerous) some kid lurking in the shadows, too small to pose a threat and—

    Ah. There.

Two girls, one scribbling with a fury onto a notepad and constantly shifting her gaze between the paper and Jormun. She knows that type— very invested in animals and art. A cute, sheltered type everyone loves and tends to be either a very nice person, or a bratty one. It’s a flip of the coin, really, but Juneau will take bets on the former from her gentle appearance.

And alas, who is she to obstruct a master at their work?

So, trying not to alarm Jormun, she slides off his back and props her shoulders on his side instead to mostly remove herself from view. Can’t have someone knowing her face , after all. Discretion is key.

  • "Vasco?" Verne confirmed, a hint of a smile ghosting across her lips. "That's a very handsome name! For a very handsome bird, I made add," she smiled down at Vosco, pleased to see that he seemed to be enjoying what remained of her bread crumbs. It seemed, for the moment, that the blonde girl was actually more interested in the hawk than the actual person standing in front of her. But as the guy began to speak again, something else about Firehawks, her eyes slid back to his face, and her smiled faltered away.

The Red Hawk? Famous? Verene was smart enough to know that he was trying to convey something to her, but she had absolutely no idea what that could be. She looked between him, then Vasco, then back to him. "Do... do you raise Firehawks?" That was her best guess. Perhaps he was some kind of famous breeder or trainer. Verene supposed someone had to teach all those Firehawks to carry messages to so many different places. "I mean, are you a famous bird trainer?" she asked hesitantly. She shifted on her feet awkwardly, and her eyes slipped away from him again. Rather than search for something else to look at as she had done before, she instead focused in on Vasco, a hint of admiration glinting in her green eyes as she deliberately avoided looking at smoothie guy in front of her.

It’s nice to finally have a break. Avani thought, taking a sip from the tea she had stopped to get on her way to the park. Maybe the most cliche place to go when on a break but the park was beautiful and it was a lovely day outside so of course she was going to come here. Plus Hiru deserved a walk after being trapped in one place for hours while Avani and the rest of her probending team, the Catgators practiced. She wouldn’t exactly call them famous or anything, this was their first year after all but they were getting there! Only a few more games until the championship and when they won people would surely know who they were. It had always been a dream of hers to become one of the best probenders in history, she wanted to die one day with a legacy and what better way than by doing something she loved? It was a win win situation. Well that was if Roka didnt try to hit all of the spotlight.

“Speak of the devil..” She mumbled to herself, her green eyes narrowing in the very person she had just been thinking of, who happened to look like he was bothering a girl. Though by the looks of her she didn’t look like she was around her, at least Avani had never seen her before and her hair looked weird, it was lighter than normal people’s hair. It was cool in a strange way. And there looked like she had a guard with her, why would she need a guard? Was she royalty? Was she someone important? Well only one way to find out. “Come on Hiru.” She grasped his hassles in one hand, and started to lead him over to the pair, hoping Hiru wouldn’t scare he girl. Ava thought her Shirshu was adorable but not everyone would agree with that statement.

Just as she was reaching the two, she could faintly make out the conversation. Apparently Roka thought this poor girl would automatically know who he was, the thought made Avani roll her eyes. Did he not realize that they weren’t even that big yet? They hadn’t even gotten to championship! He was so arrogant! Please remind her why she even liked him? Oh because he’s cute, and he isn’t a jerk all the time- Shut up mind! She didn’t ask you.

“Roka, why are you harassing this poor girl?” Avani’s spoke up, walking up closer to the pair. Turning her attention to the new girl, she let out a dramatic sigh. “Don’t mind him. He thinks that just because we’re a pro bending team that ou automatically must know us, but unless you live here or watch probending matches that isn’t very likely.” She explained, leaning a hand up to scratch behind Hiru’s ears automatically when she heard the great beast grunting and patting at the ground. “I’m Avani by the way.” She introduced with a smile. “Are You new around here? I’ve never seen you before.

  • kalera shrieked as she sped down the winding road through the city. This all began because she just happened to run into an officer who knew her a bit too well, and well one thing led to another, a car was stolen and now out of control. " DAMN IT ALFRED I THOUGHT YOU SAID DRIVING WAS EASY!" She shrieked. 'I never said that, I said its easier than being a mechanic" he voice spoke the voice dismissively. She opened the door and jumped out tumbling across the pavement. She looked up and saw the car crash into the building and huffed in relief. " SORRY PEDESTRIANS!" she YELLED. 'Your about as bright as a worm ya know that... they have two butts for crying out loud" alfred spoke in her head. " yea yea calm down al" she huffed. " now, where are we?" She asked getting up and glancing around. 'This is why i said to get a map' the voice scolded.

  • § Lihua §

—The day was nice for a stroll through the city park. She was feeling like having a nice, quiet day. Maybe she’d have a picnic for lunch if she decided to stay long enough. She hummed softly to herself as she walked down the stone pathway spiraling throughout the entire park. She sighed with relief, feeling the warm rays of the sun gently kissing her skin. She was pretty pale after all, all those years in the swamp had sheltered her from the swamp. Her home was definitely beautiful to her, but she enjoyed the light and the openness. The fresh air untainted by the bog.

Lihua noticed a pond with a tree next to it not too far up ahead. The spot was perfect for some meditation and maybe some practice. She wanted to improve that pro-bending style everyone was on about here. Apparently it was the modern style of bending. She still liked the traditional bending styles, but even she had to agree that pro bending was much more athletic and maneuverable, it could come in handy to learn some techniques. Who knows, perhaps in the future she could even become a pro bender, she loved the sport as it was from the bleachers, imagine being on the stage.

As she got closer, she heard voices by the tree, but she couldn’t see anyone. Maybe they were on the other side? She hoped she wasn’t interrupting or intruding. She also hoped the spot wasn’t completely taken... it was so beautiful. Lihua came around the tree, noticing a girl and a boy, and a messenger hawk.

She got closer to them, clearing her throat, "Excuse me," She began, ”is this spot taken?”

    ❖ Lian ❖

—Lian was doing his routine patrols, wandering the street in his squad automobile. It was usually boring this time of day, most things happened at night. So he didn’t expect anything to happen, which allowed his mind to drift off a little. He didn’t start daydreaming of course, he knew the dangers of not driving while paying attention, but he wasn’t just focusing on the radio waiting to hear for someone to start blaring codes and report accidents.

Of course, he ended up being wrong. Just as he turned a street corner, voices blasted through the radio, saying an automobile just drove straight into a building. He flipped on his sirens, the familiar whining blaring on the streets as he pressed on the acceleration pedal. He honked at cars that were too slow to get out of the way, and in no time he was pulling down the street where the car was still inside the place. He slowed to a stop, opening the door immediately and hopping out. How the h*ll did this happen?

Lian glanced up as some more police cars came roaring up. He was going to need help getting this thing out without causing the building to collapse. He hurried to the car and looked inside, no one was there. He slipped into the building where there was a giant hole, looking around inside. There were some people cowering in the corner, dust on their clothes and faces. "Out! Come on!" He shouted hurriedly, hurrying over to help them out. Officers were starting to pile inside to help with those who were too in shock to move.

Once everyone was out, Lian joined the other officers outside. He lifted his hands, concentrating on the metal and earth in the building’s infrastructure. Some other officers were doing the same, keeping the building up as best they could while the others bended the car out of the wall. They were honestly just lucky no one got hurt.

It took great care and precision to ensure that more parts of the building crumbled off. But they got it out without any surprises.

Lian felt bad for the owners of the shops, of course the city would help compensate for the damages, but repairs could take days. Some of those people also lived in the apartments above the shops. It bothered him how some people could be so reckless, but there was only so much he could do.

  • Kalera watched as sirens blaired and police cars drove past her. She was still covered in dust, cuts and bruises from her close encounter with death, otherwise known as almost killing pedestrians and herself. She stood with the crowd of terrified people as to blend in. However due to her past actions and run ins with the republic city police department she was still far from safe. " this is your fault" she whispered angrily to Alfred however not receiving any of his usual snarky remarks. She brushed the hair from her right eye so she could see the damage and her jaw dropped down enough for it to slam into the pavement. " oh boy," she whispered to herself. "My bad " she wheezed backing away from the scene ony to be blocked by two police officers. " ehe" she laughed nervously as they pushed her forward to the male helping to keep the building together. " H-hey come on akira what happened to you loving my probending plays" she asked the officer. " ok i know this seems bad, but it was an accident" she told the male " now since thats cleared up cleared u-" she turned around to walk away only to be blocked once again. " OH COME ON" she exclaimed in frustration. 'You brought this on yourself kala,' alfred sighed. " it was your idea!" She exclaimed. To most that would seem off, however this was quite normal and only a few officers knew of her condition. ' you also need to come up with a better name than alfred,' he spoke out of the blue. " what does that have to do with anything" she asked. ' nothing, just putting that out there' he huffed

    Roka | Firebender | Catgators

"Bird trainer! No way! One Vasco is enough. A bunch of him? Oh man would that be a nightmare. He'd eat my family out of our home," I huffed out the last of my reply. I didn't even have to look down to know my hawk was glaring me down for the insult. What? He eats almost everything and chases every little bit of food down. My father may be rich, but this stupid bird...ugh. I still liked the feathery thing though, much as I didn't want to admit. Tons of personality.

I jabbed a thumb at myself with a grin, showing off my white teeth. People always did say I had a fabulous smile, heh. I couldn't argue the facts. "I'm a pro-bender, gal. One of the best, if I do say so mys-" "“Roka, why are you harassing this poor girl?" Avani. My grin faded, the edge of my lip curling as I released a groan. I lowered my hand and whipped around to greet her. "Come on! I didn't do anything to her." I argued, but only came face to face with Hiru. The creature was quiet as a mouse sometimes and I truly hated it. I stared at the sightless beast and stood there emotionlessly for several seconds, then jerked another crooked grin awkwardly. "Hiruuu~ tell your master she's ruining my vibe, would ya?"

    OOC:

  • Verene hesitated, seeming to shrink in on herself. The number of people in her immediate area was growing rather quickly, leaving her feeling nervous, and unsure. However, as one person approached, a girl who called herself Avani, the presence of her shirshu seemed to relax Verene slightly. “It… it’s nice to meet you,” she mumbled. “Avani,” she added as an afterthought, knowing it would probably be polite to show she had heard and understood her name.”Could I pet your shirshu?” she asked in a rush, before she lost her nerve. She had never gotten to see an actual shirshu in person before, only pictures in the big animal book she owned. Personally, she felt that it was a much more majestic creature in person, and that the illustrations didn’t do it justice. She froze abruptly though, realizing she had forgotten to introduce herself. Which made it kind of weird that she had just asked to pet a stranger’s shirshu. Hiru? She remembered hearing the boy with the firehawk (Roka? That’s what Avani had called him) address the creature as such, and he appeared to know Avani, so it seemed like a logical assumption that he would also know the shirshu’s name. “I, uh, I’m Verene, by the way,” she stated shyly. “Sorry for not saying so sooner.”

As she was speaking, Verene heard someone behind her and turned slightly in order to face both parties around her, her back to the pond. There was another girl here now, one who asked if the spot they were occupying was taken. Verene supposed not, it was a public park after all, but the fact that this newcomer female had asked actually made her a little happy. “No, no it isn’t,” she replied in a small voice, but then added, a little more confidently and even with a tiny smile.”It’s a good place to feed the fish,” she settled, then lapsed into silence.

Verene began wringing her hands in front of her nervously, though she couldn't help but feel like perhaps she should continue to make conversation. She didn’t want to seem weird. So, for a moment, she struggled for something to talk about, but then it clicked. She remembered Avani asking her if she was new to the city, but Verene had been so enticed by the shirshu, she hadn’t answered properly. Of course, it would probably be odd to after all she’d already said, but still; better late than never.”I am new here. To the city, I mean. I’m…” Veren trailed off, suddenly unsure what to say. Was she moving here? Just visiting? She was pretty sure she wasn’t supposed to tell random strangers she was here for Avatar training though.”I’m here on vacation,” she settled, thinking that seemed like an appropriate response.Verene lapsed into silence again, shifting awkwardly back and forth, still wringing her hands. She spoke up again, much more quickly this time; it seemed the longer the conversation went on, the more confident she became. “So, you two are famous?” she asked curiously. “I’ve never heard of pro-bending. Is that some kind of game?” Verene felt like that was a safe assumption to fall on. If they were famous for something they did, perhaps they were famous athletes. Verene thought she had heard somewhere that Republic City had some kind of competition for entertainment. The blonde glanced between Avani and Roka, waiting for a reply, though she was mainly looking at Avani. She was avoiding eye contact with Roka again, but this time because she felt embarrassed for asking him if he was a bird keeper, an idea he was obviously averse too. Verene, however, thought being a bird keeper sounded really fun.

Meanwhile, throughout the various exchanges going on in the park, Nylah had been keeping a careful eye on the area. She had watched as steadily more and more people arrived to bask in the sun, or sit, or play. The sentinel had tensed when someone actually approached Verene, and spoke to her, but Nylah quickly relaxed again when she realized he seemed to be nothing more than a conceited kid. In fact, Nylah thought she even recognized him, and her suspicions were confirmed when another girl joined the two, and Nylah identified her as Avani, which would make the boy Roka; pro-benders. Nylah knew they played for the Catgators, not because she was much into the sport herself, but because she liked to keep up with the local news. Apparently their team was doing pretty good this year.

Despite some being intimidated by it, the shirshu didn’t give the guard a second pause. Nylah knew for a fact that Verene could probably handle one better than Nylah herself, and that aside, this shirshu was clearly domesticated. The two pro-benders seemed to be talking with Verene, and Nylah was a little surprised to see the normally quiet Avatar carrying a conversation with them. That was good, she supposed.

So Nylah contented herself with keeping an eye on everyone else. However, she decided it might be getting a bit crowded here as she saw yet another girl walk past the tree Nylah was leaning against and over to Verene’s little group in the pond. Nylah didn’t think the girl had noticed her (just as she predicted with someone coming from behind the tree), but she let her proceed without any commotion. This newcomer was moving entirely too casual to be a threat. Still, Nylah felt like it might be an appropriate time to take Verene elsewhere, or even back to the compound; somewhere with less people.

But, she didn’t want to pull the girl away from her conversation just yet, and resolved to give the blonde a few more minutes. Plus, she knew Verene would want some time with the shirshu, and Nylah wasn’t about to deny her that joy.

Hiru simply let out a low grunt at the voice, obviously recognizing who it was by the tone. Shirshu’s might be blind but they were in no shape or form helpless, it was what attracted him to Avani in the first place. Well that and the fact that he was just flat out adorable. “Vibe? I didn’t know arrogance was a vibe.” The black haired girl stated dryly, rolling her eyes at Roka’s obvious distaste in the two being there. Once again he was a bit of jerk, nothing new here. Noticing the girl again, she realized what she had been asked and nodded. “Sure! Just don’t scratch his nose, he doesn’t like it much.” Avani had tried that once when she was younger and first gotten Hiru and needless to say he hadn’t been entirely domesticated at the time and almost bit her hand off. Simply put, it was a lesson learned. “Also it’s nice to meet you.” She quickly added a moment later after learning the girl’s name. ‘Verene’ she had never heard something like that before, but than again she had never met someone like this girl before. She sure was an interesting one. However she wasn’t expecting for her to ask if they were famous. Shaking her head she let out a sigh, sending a glare Roka’s way. If he kept this up no one would take them seriously, would think they were all arrogant jerks. Well Roka sort of was but not Avani and Keanu. “No we aren’t famous. We’re only known in the city for being pro-benders but that’s pretty much it. Unless we win the championship that is, then more people will hear about us but we definitely aren’t that big of a deal.”
