WiseSpirit trotted through the forest as water dripped down her nose. It was early in the morning and she had just gotten up early for her morning run. As alpha, she had no reason to do this, but she thought it was nice to run around and get out of her stuffy old territory. WiseSpirit leaped through the forest as leaves brushed against her coat, she began to smell fresh prey nearby. If all went according to plan, it shouldn’t be long since she finished a few more laps before breakfast. WiseSpirit stopped in the middle of the forest, contemplating whether to keep running or return back to the rest of her pack.

The young deer was confused, blinking in the brightness that was the world. Instincts told her that there should've been someone there, someone who would help her, but the fawn sensed no presence. It had left her here, and the fawn didn't know if the presence would come back. In an attempt to get someone to find her, the deer let out a short bleat. Maybe something would hear her, and then she could eat and be safe. Already the fawn knew that being alone was bad, and wished the presence that had left hers quickly would come back.

    Legend~female~head warrior~four years old

Legend sat in camp, awake early as usual. She had watched her alpha leave the camp as she exited her den. A part of her wanted to call out and ask if she should come along to ensure he safety, but she knew that Wisepsiprirt was more than capable of keeping herself safe, and would enjoy her alone time away from the pack that was her responsibility, so she let her be. Now she sat in the clearing, awaiting her return and the waking of others.

  • Waking with a yawn and blink of his yellow eyes, Kasimus. Arising he stretched letting out a moan as he yawned once more, snapping his jaws closed with a powerful noise. His black stockings trotted over to see his mate, Wisespirit, wasn't there. Cocking his head he perked his ears, her familiar scent drifting lightly along the breeze. Where has she gone to now? Sighing he laid down on the rock, watching his pack arise.

As Alpha Male his duty was to overwatch the pack, alongside his mate. She had more power than him but of course he did not mind at all. Instead he enjoyed being second in command in a way. But his words and choices still had a effect amongst the pack. Something he deeply appreciated. He had rose from pup to Zeta to Alpha Male. He had fallen deeply in love with Wisespirit. The way she was cunning and clever but not apathetically so, she had emotions and the first moment she had shown them to her he was intrigued.

Legend turned her head to see Kasimus, her other alpha. Watching him scent the air she let out a small chuckle. "Don't worry too much, if you are at all. She's just gone for a morning run, I would trust her to be back soon with the time that she left" She gave a friendly wag, "so, how was your night? get much sleep?"

  • WiseSpirit’s ears twitched as she heard some small, sharp noise in the distance. A baby wolf pup perhaps? The She wolf snuck closer to investigate. To her surprise, a small newborn fawn, was lying there alone. WiseSpirit was conflicted. One part of her was curious if she could take the fawn home as a quick snack for her pack, while the other wondered where this fawn’s mom was, and what was to come next.

Swiftcream I’ll fix it in a bit. :3

The fawn waited, but the presence didn't return. Perhaps that was normal, but the child's instincts and fear senses told her it wasn't. Swiveling her head to get one last look around, when she did see something! A four legged creature with fur, a long snout and tail, and sharp eyes that stared back at her. The fawn staggered to her hooves, and started wobbling towards the creature. She wasn't sure if this was the same one from before, but the fawn's instincts told her that she needed safety, and despite the creature being a wolf the want for protection won out. The fawn let out another cry, softer, more hopeful, that there was someone there, that the someone must be her mother.

  • WiseSpirit tilted her head. Is that fawn calling me? Do they think I’m their mother? WiseSpirit shook the thought. It couldn’t be true, but curiousity swept through her body. She lept off her perch and cautiously walked up to the fawn, strangely trying not to scare it. Her muzzle moved in closer and slowly, as she sniffed the fawn’s small face.

The creature came forwards, now face to face with the fawn. She blinked, looking from the big creature's coat to her own. They were both grey, though the fawn's coat was spotted white in places. Deciding that was enough to confirm the larger creature's identity as 'mother', the fawn bumped against Wisespirit, wondering if she had food.

  • As the fawn began to follow WiseSpirit, the thought of if the deer saw her as her mother appeared again. Not only did curiousity sweep her body, but another feeling; maternal instinct. Only an abandoned fawn would follow random strangers. She knew it was wrong, but WiseSpirit’s heart began to melt. She tried to leave the fawn, but her legs couldn’t move. It was almost like this fawn was an abandoned baby wolf. WiseSpirit walked up to her and gently groomed her head. “Oh, you poor poor thing! Don’t worry, I’ll be your mother. Just follow me, and I’ll take you to my home. There’s lots of plants for you to eat and it’ll be safe, and I’ll protect you, I promise.” She smiled. She knew the deer couldn’t understand her, but it was still worth a shot to make sure the deer trusted her.

The grey creature began to lick her head, and the fawn let out a happy bleat, pushing affectionately against the larger animal. Her mother spoke in a gentle tone, and though the meaning was lost to the newborn, it was the tone that mattered. It made the fawn feel safe, and she tried to steady her wobbling legs and stand properly, so she could follow her mother to wherever they were going to go.

  • Kasimus looked at Legend, nodding his head, "I expect that much, wonder what she could bring back on her own though? Not enough to feed the pack. I just hope she is safe." He added with a huff.

  • WiseSpirit walked with Moonlight, occasionally slowing down so she can keep up with her. Eventually after a while, WiseSpirit decided to try something. It was a bit risky, but WiseSpirit walked up behind Moonlight, picked her up by the scruff like a wolf would do with their child, and started treading forward again, this time a bit quicker.

Though baby deer could walk from birth, this much exercise was tripping up the young fawn, literally. She tried her best to keep up, but kept stumbling over her own hooves. She wasn't deterred at all, but it was tiring. When Moonlight suddenly grasped her by her scruff, mixed signals shot through the fawn's body. Survival instincts said teeth anywhere near the neck was bad, but child like trust in her mother said it was ok. Her mother wasn't hurting her, only carrying her to make the trip to wherever they were going quicker. The fawn let out a small surprised bleat, but stayed still as she grew comfortable with the 'ride'.

  • WiseSpirit knew this was not comfortable for the fawn, so she tried to calm her down. “Sssshhhh. It’s okay, it’ll be fine. We’re almost there.” She said, walking slowly up a few more steps. Eventually, they finally got to the edge of the territory, where WiseSpirit gently put Moonlight down. WiseSpirit pushed her nose on Moonlight’s forehead to lower her closer to the grass. She didn’t want any of the other pack members to find Moonlight unattended just yet. “Mommy’s going away right now, but I’ll be back as soon as I can. I promise.” She said softly. She leaned in and gave another comforting lick on Moonlight’s forehead. “For now, you shall stay in that grass patch, and do not move.” She said. And with that, she entered the pack entrance.

  • Legend looked toward the entrance, wagging her tail. "Good morning Wisespirit, did you have a good outing?" She walked to the alpha, with a respectful dip of her head. "I could rally some of the others to go on a hunting trip if you would like. It seems everyone's still asleep." She looked to the dens, wondering when they would begin to wake.

  • Kasimus arose, looking at the entrance. The scent of his mate immediately reaching his nose. He leaped off the rock and greeted her with a soft nuzzle. But something was off... He inhaled deeper. He smelled....deer. With the fresh clammy scent of birth. Did she kill a newborn?

"I smell fawn... Did you bring back a deer?" But he didn't smell death or blood. Unusual, perhaps the creature somehow escaped her grasp.
