  • HE’S GOT STARS IN HIS EYES —

jukeboxhero was truly bored out of his mind. the bernese mountain dog sat in camp, looking off into the distance with a glum expression. many of his new clanmates were busy with their responsibilities, and he longed to be included. juke loved to be busy, it stimulated his mind and kept him entertained. being bored was almost painful to the pup.

jukeboxhero was torn from his thoughts when his attention caught on a bright monarch butterfly. his tail began to wag and the pup stood up and began to follow after the winged creature. the monarch had landed, almost as if it was mocking the mountain dog’s crippled speed.

almost caught up to the iridescent insect, his persuits were abruptly interrupted by a sand covered rock that caught his good back leg. juke tripped comically into the sand, and the startled butterfly flew away leaving him on the ground giggling on the ground.

  • ★ ★ ★ Archaickit had been hobbling past when she spotted the scene. As down as she had been, she found the scene amusing still. The girl stifled a giggle, shaking her head. She padded closer, peering down at him with a tilted head. Her eyes still looked dull compared to how they once had been, and there seemed to be a ghost of a memory hanging around her, a dark aura of pain and unkempt misery. But amusement shone hand-in-hand, something rare for her anymore.

Archie flinched as the metal door swung open. A large dog came through, muscular and scarred. His fur was short, shiny and black, with a single white spot on his chest. It looked like a snowy island in a sea of oil, she thought. But it was his eyes that really stood out to the ivory kitten - they were red. A pure, crimson color surrounded his oily pupil. Against the blood-colored iris, the whites of his eyes were startling. The male offered a toothy grin, though it didn't seem friendly. Archaickit pressed herself against the back wall, shrinking down as the pit bull entered the room. "P-Please don't h-h-hu-hurt m-me..." she pled, pressing her ears against her skull.

Archaickit offered a smile, though it seemed sort of strained. Adjusting her weight, the kit pulled her right forepaw closer to her chest. The strap of the sling it sat in rubbed against her neck and shoulder fur in a way that made her insanely itchy, but she ignored it. "Y-You alright?" she asked quietly, haunted baby blues scanning him for any signs of injury. He seemed to be okay, as far as she could tell. "What w-were you g-go-going to d-do once you c-cau-caught it?" she inquired.

jukeboxhero got to his paws slowly with some unease, shaking his jet black pelt of stray bits of sand. his back leg ached slightly due to the awkward pressure brought upon it by fall, but he stood regardless. the pup had suffered a broken leg when he was younger that never healed properly as he grew. this resulted in an awkward twist that gave him occasional trouble, but more often than not he didn’t think about it.

once he was situated, juke realized he wasn’t alone when he heard a voice begin to question him. the bernese mountain dog turned towards the feline and offered her a polite smile before listening to what she had to say. what was he going to do with the butterfly? juke wasn’t entirely sure himself, but it seemed as if the kitten was worried about it. sensing this, he said, “oh- don’t worry ma’am, just chasin’ for fun”, with a laugh in hopes of cheering the younger creature up a tad.
