    PLOT

The Herd has lived in peace and harmony for years. With no other herds to compete with, and few predators, the horses live in utopia. However, their undisturbed lifestyle is turned upside down at the arrival of three newcomers. The newcomers are strange horses, who talk and act differently. Although they seem nice and are supported by many of the herd-members, there is still a maleficent aura about them. Shortly after their arrival, horses begin disappearing and are mysteriously found dead. The Leader of the Herd is especially cautious of the Newcomers, unable to shake the feeling that they are the cause for the recent deaths. However, other horses refuse to turn out the seemingly innocent strangers, causing conflict amongst the herd. What is the cause for the higher mortality rate amongst the horses? Will the Herd be separated due to their conflicting views?

We will be starting the roleplay on the arrival of the Newcomers. If you are playing a Newcomer, I will DM you and let you in on some spoilers for the thread. Be prepared!

    RULES

    - be semi-advanced (at least a paragraph per post)

    - be active (post at least once or day or every other day, or let me know if you'll be gone)

    - be mature, there will be some mature elements to this thread (i.e. murder, gore, sickness, conflict, angst, etc.)

    - limit of 4 characters per person

    - if you play a major role, such as the Leader or one of the Newcomers, PLEASE make sure to follow the above rules ^^ be active, mature, and advanced

    - feel free to offer advice or bring up possible plot ideas/twists, I love interacting with you guys and it makes the roleplay a lot more interesting

    - romance, drama, angst is encouraged in IC

    - you should all know what is and isn't acceptable (aka no powerplaying, no godmodding, etc.)

    - have fun!

    THE HERD

The Herd is a peaceful, gentile group of forest-dwelling horses. They rarely have conflicts or arguments, and live in safety and happiness. They all submit to their Leader, and understand and obey the laws of the the herd. Mares and stallions are treated equally. Due to their low-stress lives, there is no need for them to really train to fight. All the herd-members share the responsibilities of feeding, protecting, and taking care of each other. The only horses that are treated specially are the Leader, the Medicine Horse, and pregnant mares. Their names are usually things found in nature (i.e. Scar, Tiger, Rainbow) and things that they would know about (i.e. Faith, Blue, Walker).

*We do need a couple horses (2-3 at least) that are willing to die for the plot. Please, please, please some people make a couple characters with one of the characters being open to dying. This is important for the plot! You will also be let in on some little spoilers and plot ideas if one of your characters dies.

POSITION DESCRIPTIONS / KNOW YOUR ROLE:

LEADER: The horse in charge of the rest of the horses. He decides what the herd does, and is in charge of making sure everything is running smoothly. He/She will be weary of the Newcomers (as all good Leaders should be of strangers and possible threats to their herds). However, he will be torn, as half of the herd will love the strangers and want them to stay and the other half will want them to leave. What will he do to keep order and balance?

DEPUTY: The Deputy is the Leader's personal assistant and secretary. If the leader is sick, injured, or dies, the Deputy is next in line to become the Leader. Otherwise, he/she is just a glorified Herd Member.

MEDICINE HORSE: The Medicine Horse(s) is in charge of caring for the horses health. They are Herd Members that show a strong interest in the arts of healing. Once trained by other medicine horses, they become a Medicine Horse as well. He/she is trained in herbal medicine, and is able to tend to wounds, sicknesses, and injuries of the other herd members. However, even he/she is baffled by the strange deaths and is unable to find a cause.

HERD MEMBERS: These are the rest of the horses of the herd. They help find food, water, and shelter and help protect each other. These can be mares or stallions of any age above 3.

BROODMARES: Broodmares are female horses that are pregnant or are raising foals under the age of 1 year. They are temporarily freed from their responsibilities as a herd member. They are treated with extra respect and care by their fellow horses.

FOALS/YEARLINGS: Foals and yearlings are the youth and adolescents of the herd. They have no real worries, or responsibilities within the herd, and often live a pretty carefree life. They are aged 0-3. When they near the age of 3, they begin taking on more responsibilities in the herd, and learn how to be a good, productive herd member.

    THE NEWCOMERS

The Newcomers say they come from a land far, far away. They arrive mysteriously one day, asking for shelter during a rain storm. The Herd accepts them, some with open arms, others guardedly. They are all very similar; being quiet, watchful, and a little creepy. They are very serious and they all have black pelts. Their names are unique as well. Shortly after their arrival, horses begin going missing or are found dead from unknown causes. Some of the horses blame the Newcomers for these sudden deaths, while others think it is terribly racist to assume such things.

If you are playing a Newcomer, make sure to follow the rules and be active, mature, and advanced. Also, make sure your character fits the part; they must have black fur, strange names (I would prefer their names to be in Latin or Romanian), and they must have a mysterious personality. I will be making a group chat once we get all of the Newcomers where we will discuss plots, spoilers, and such.

  • 56c6e2fa7bd7d1f51e0d910b9e7a6698.jpg

    Name:

    Ashes, nicknamed "Ashe" (pronounced Ash-ee)

    Gender:

    Stallion

    Age:

    13 years

    Basic Appearance:

Standing at roughly 18 hands tall, Ashes towers over the rest of his herd. His shaggy coat starts at a dark silver near the withers, and fades into blue roan near the legs and head. Ashes has a broad white blaze down his muzzle.

Each hoof has a bright white sock of feathering, which has faded to more of a creamy brown over time. His mane is black with brown tips near the withers, and his tail is creamy white.

    Position:

    Leader of the Herd

    Personality:

Ashes cares for his herd, willing to sacrifice himself for even the tiniest foal. His method of leading could be called democratic; Ashes is willing to lend an ear to any mare or stallion before making a decision. He is a fatherly stallion and treats all young as if they were his own.

Ashes loves flowers, and even though they're useless for eating the bright colors and delicate petals appeal to him. The stallion is often humming, trotting along and swishing his bob-tail on peaceful evenings. He knows the basics of fighting, and can snap a coyote's spine with a swift kick, but besides brute strength he is woefully disadvantaged in combat. He keeps his head high nonetheless.

Ashes is a proud leader. He tries to be humble, but he believes if he is too humble the Newcomers will see him as weak. With that in mind the stallion attempts to step high and give off a powerful aura. It isn't his style, but benevolence is only useful when the herd isn't split down the middle with indecisiveness.

    History (opt.):

Ashes was born to a massive mare named Bright and a roan stallion named Cinder. When he was a yearling a fire raced through the area, taking Bright and leaving Ashes with a burn scar on his left flank. With the loss of his mate, Cinder fell into a depression and left his colt to raise himself. Ashes found his love for flowers during his father's depression; the first things to grow back were cheery little dandelions. The herd moved after the fire, of course, but Ashes kept the thought of those dandelions in his head.

As he grew older, and became herd leader, Ashes nurtured a great fear of fires. Cinder had died during his son's sixth year due to an illness from the smoke in his lungs. Ashes is low-key terrified that the same will happen to him.

    Plot Ideas / Other:

-\_( '-')_/- / I may have periods of inactivity (3 days at the very, VERY most) due to writer's block, but I'll normally try to write through it. The only time I can't power through is during depressive episodes, which, thank God, have been happening less lately.

    Name:

    Apta

    Gender:

    Mare

    Basic Appearance:

Apta has short, glossy black fur and stands at 14.6 hands. On her flanks is a "lightning strike" pattern in dark gray. Hints of blue are apparent in her mane and tail.

    Position:

    Newcomer

    Personality:

Apta is typically quiet, preferring to listen than add her two cents. She gathers information like dragons gather gold. Apta's willing to let herself be what others see her as, so only the other Newcomers know her "true" personality.

As a horse, Apta is strong of mind and quick of tongue. If a horse does something dumb, she's likely got a witty thought or two against them. She trusts the Newcomers around her far more than she trusts any of the herd.

  • Jaybird - Orion looks good so far! I can't wait for the finished forms! (the Newcomers are technically supposed to be black and with Latin names, but Zinnia is dark enough, I'll let it slide)

-=Wolfheart=- - Ashes and Apta are both accepted! (Ashes is sooo perfect for that role omg I love him)

.mochi. - Freesia is accepted! She's so pretty, Jasper might start crushing on her in the future <3

    Jadefeather12 - Yay!

  • I have to finish mine tomorrow, sorry darn homework! *Shakes fists at sky angrily, realizes is in a crowded room, awkwardly puts hands down and tries to act cool*

  • Awwe Strays, you flatter me. Ashes is just a big dorky dad he totally makes dad jokes and blows bubbles in rivers to make the foals laugh

He is my beautiful dad son

Also, fun fact that nobody asked for: Apta is Latin for "drapery." I was running out of muse and curtains were all I could think of
