Lucinda Tremble
Deputy Headmistress
An older woman sat at her desk within a rather large office filled with piles of books and trinkets. Misplaced parchment and ink bottles covered the top of her desk.
Her hair was white as snow and in an intricate braid. Her squinted blue eyes were staring at the door to her office as if she was expecting someone to open it.
As if on cue, it did, in fact, open and entered a younger woman. Her eyebrows furrowed above her dark eyes when she noticed the older woman had been patiently waiting for her.
“Headmistress Carnelian.” The brunette slightly bowed her head out of respect before closing the door behind her. She then entered the room and got straight to the point. “Is it too late to cancel this school year?”
The Headmistress simply smiled back at her as if it was an amusing joke. “Lucinda, Lucinda, Lucinda… You know that we cannot do that.” Folding her arms on the table, she continued to smile as she spoke, “Especially now. The students will be arriving in a few hours.”
The younger woman, Lucinda, nodded as she moved closer to the desk. “The number of incidents are increasing in North America and growing closer to the school. We may need to evacuate if they-”
“We must protect these children at all costs. Especially Ms. Watson.” The Headmistress snapped at her, though her posture and facial expression remained calm. “The Death Eaters will have no luck getting into our school and harming our students, I can assure you that.”
Lucinda brought her eyes to the floor as she asked, in a rather quiet voice, “Who do you believe is their leader? Who else would they take on as fit to be the new person in charge?”
The Headmistress answered in a soft voice in return, “That I do not know, Miss Tremble. Though I assume we will know soon enough. Until then, we must carry on our lives as if they are normal.”
Lucinda nodded once more before turning to leave. Before she reached the door, though, The Headmistress called out to her, “Oh, Lucinda. Do tell Professor Locke to pay me a visit, will you?”
“Of course.” Lucinda then left the room; closing the door softly behind her.
Headmistress Marie Carnelian let out a slow breath and set her eyes back onto her door.
Malaki was trembling with a mixture of excitement and nervousness when he woke on the first of September. Today he would become a student at Blurwelts School of Sorcery.
Swinging his legs off of his bed, he headed toward his closet and grabbed a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. He wore this mostly because he didn’t want to wear his robes in front of Muggles.
Hearing a soft mrrow from behind him, he turned to find his familiar sitting on the carpeted bedroom floor. Her name was Maisie and she was pale ginger cat with gray flecks and a white chest. Her large moss colored eyes were staring up at him expectedly.
Bending over, he scratched her behind the ear and told her, “Ready for our big day, Mai?” She purred in response to this.
Suddenly, the sound of breaking glass made Malaki flinch. Tiptoeing over toward his door, he cracked it open with a horrible creaking sound. He could hear his parents yelling at each other downstairs. Something about a prophecy of some sorts. Opening the door a bit more and moving his head out of his room, he attempted to get a better listen to their argument. It wasn’t unlike his parents, Mallard and Maryam Fallon, to get into a squabble from time to time. Their marriage was far from healthy and happy, he had come to notice.
Before he could get a few more words in, his parents ceased fighting and went on about their morning. He wasn’t sure why until he heard his little sister’s voice.
Shrugging off the whole situation, Malaki closed the door and grabbed the Blurwelts letter from off of his desk. Glancing over the second page, he checked off everything in his head to make sure he had what he needed.
“Looks like I’ve got everything.” He said to himself before walking over to the cage next to his bed. “In you go, Maisie. We’re leaving soon.”
His cat perked her ears at her own name, but didn’t budge. A stubborn one, she was.
Letting out a frustrated sigh, Malaki picked her up and put her in the cage himself.
Standing up, he looked around his mess of a room for the last time before grabbing his suitcases and leaving his room.
An hour later, he was walking down Platform 9 with his hands on his trolley. His parents were behind him with stoic expressions and their hands clasped behind their backs. His little sister, Mildred, was walking beside him.
“You’ll write to me, won’t you?” She asked in a small voice. She was a small girl with long, red hair and dark eyes.
“Of course, Millie.” He said which caused her to smile.
Once they approached the wall, Malaki made sure all of his items were secure before breaking out into a run. Unable to look, he closed his eyes and waited for the crash he was sure was to come. When it didn’t, he opened his eyes only to find a golden engine was waiting for them at Platform 9 ¾. The platform was packed with chattering witches and wizards in robes; albicant smoke from the engine drifting over their heads.
“Remember, only speak to the Purebloods. Don’t waste your time with any Mudbloods.” His father spit the last word out and Malaki shivered at his tone of voice. His father was a tall, muscular man with brown hair he kept in a small bun and a beard. He was a horrifying man, his actions and words said this much.
“Yes, father.” He lied as he gripped onto his trolley.
Feeling someone place a hand on his shoulder, he turned to find his mother next to him. She was as beautiful as she was cruel. Her pale blonde hair was tied back and her blue eyes, which he had gotten from her, were narrowed at him. “We also expect you to behave yourself, Malaki.”
Malaki swallowed hard and nodded; the feeling of a weight being lifted off of him as she lifted her hand from his shoulder.
“Yes, mother.” Malaki’s throat felt restricted.
“Go on then.” His father said and, without waiting a second longer, Malaki was headed toward the Blurwelts Express. It was a very large train that appeared as if it were made of pure gold. It shone like sunlight and it almost blinded him.
Moving through the crowd of other students, he finally made his way to the train. After putting up his luggage, he grabbed his cat’s cage and looked for a compartment. The ones in the front were mostly taken, so he moved to the back and eventually found an empty one. Opening the door, he found that the compartments were huge; meant for at least eight people.
Sitting himself down on a seat, he opened Maisie’s cage and let her out. The feline stretched and moved to curl up on his lap. Beginning to pet her, Malaki wondered what sort of mischief he’d be able to cause this year.
//i shortened my post quite a bit, didn't want to overwhelm anyone. post away, lovelies!//
