An older woman sat at her desk within a rather large office filled with piles of books and trinkets. Misplaced parchment and ink bottles covered the top of her desk.

Her hair was white as snow and in an intricate braid. Her squinted blue eyes were staring at the door to her office as if she was expecting someone to open it.

As if on cue, it did, in fact, open and entered a younger woman. Her eyebrows furrowed above her dark eyes when she noticed the older woman had been patiently waiting for her.

“Headmistress Carnelian.” The brunette slightly bowed her head out of respect before closing the door behind her. She then entered the room and got straight to the point. “Is it too late to cancel this school year?”

The Headmistress simply smiled back at her as if it was an amusing joke. “Lucinda, Lucinda, Lucinda… You know that we cannot do that.” Folding her arms on the table, she continued to smile as she spoke, “Especially now. The students will be arriving in a few hours.”

The younger woman, Lucinda, nodded as she moved closer to the desk. “The number of incidents are increasing in North America and growing closer to the school. We may need to evacuate if they-”

“We must protect these children at all costs. Especially Ms. Watson.” The Headmistress snapped at her, though her posture and facial expression remained calm. “The Death Eaters will have no luck getting into our school and harming our students, I can assure you that.”

Lucinda brought her eyes to the floor as she asked, in a rather quiet voice, “Who do you believe is their leader? Who else would they take on as fit to be the new person in charge?”

The Headmistress answered in a soft voice in return, “That I do not know, Miss Tremble. Though I assume we will know soon enough. Until then, we must carry on our lives as if they are normal.”

Lucinda nodded once more before turning to leave. Before she reached the door, though, The Headmistress called out to her, “Oh, Lucinda. Do tell Professor Locke to pay me a visit, will you?”

“Of course.” Lucinda then left the room; closing the door softly behind her.

Headmistress Marie Carnelian let out a slow breath and set her eyes back onto her door.

Malaki was trembling with a mixture of excitement and nervousness when he woke on the first of September. Today he would become a student at Blurwelts School of Sorcery.

Swinging his legs off of his bed, he headed toward his closet and grabbed a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. He wore this mostly because he didn’t want to wear his robes in front of Muggles.

Hearing a soft mrrow from behind him, he turned to find his familiar sitting on the carpeted bedroom floor. Her name was Maisie and she was pale ginger cat with gray flecks and a white chest. Her large moss colored eyes were staring up at him expectedly.

Bending over, he scratched her behind the ear and told her, “Ready for our big day, Mai?” She purred in response to this.

Suddenly, the sound of breaking glass made Malaki flinch. Tiptoeing over toward his door, he cracked it open with a horrible creaking sound. He could hear his parents yelling at each other downstairs. Something about a prophecy of some sorts. Opening the door a bit more and moving his head out of his room, he attempted to get a better listen to their argument. It wasn’t unlike his parents, Mallard and Maryam Fallon, to get into a squabble from time to time. Their marriage was far from healthy and happy, he had come to notice.

Before he could get a few more words in, his parents ceased fighting and went on about their morning. He wasn’t sure why until he heard his little sister’s voice.

Shrugging off the whole situation, Malaki closed the door and grabbed the Blurwelts letter from off of his desk. Glancing over the second page, he checked off everything in his head to make sure he had what he needed.

“Looks like I’ve got everything.” He said to himself before walking over to the cage next to his bed. “In you go, Maisie. We’re leaving soon.”

His cat perked her ears at her own name, but didn’t budge. A stubborn one, she was.

Letting out a frustrated sigh, Malaki picked her up and put her in the cage himself.

Standing up, he looked around his mess of a room for the last time before grabbing his suitcases and leaving his room.

An hour later, he was walking down Platform 9 with his hands on his trolley. His parents were behind him with stoic expressions and their hands clasped behind their backs. His little sister, Mildred, was walking beside him.

“You’ll write to me, won’t you?” She asked in a small voice. She was a small girl with long, red hair and dark eyes.

“Of course, Millie.” He said which caused her to smile.

Once they approached the wall, Malaki made sure all of his items were secure before breaking out into a run. Unable to look, he closed his eyes and waited for the crash he was sure was to come. When it didn’t, he opened his eyes only to find a golden engine was waiting for them at Platform 9 ¾. The platform was packed with chattering witches and wizards in robes; albicant smoke from the engine drifting over their heads.

“Remember, only speak to the Purebloods. Don’t waste your time with any Mudbloods.” His father spit the last word out and Malaki shivered at his tone of voice. His father was a tall, muscular man with brown hair he kept in a small bun and a beard. He was a horrifying man, his actions and words said this much.

“Yes, father.” He lied as he gripped onto his trolley.

Feeling someone place a hand on his shoulder, he turned to find his mother next to him. She was as beautiful as she was cruel. Her pale blonde hair was tied back and her blue eyes, which he had gotten from her, were narrowed at him. “We also expect you to behave yourself, Malaki.”

Malaki swallowed hard and nodded; the feeling of a weight being lifted off of him as she lifted her hand from his shoulder.

“Yes, mother.” Malaki’s throat felt restricted.

“Go on then.” His father said and, without waiting a second longer, Malaki was headed toward the Blurwelts Express. It was a very large train that appeared as if it were made of pure gold. It shone like sunlight and it almost blinded him.

Moving through the crowd of other students, he finally made his way to the train. After putting up his luggage, he grabbed his cat’s cage and looked for a compartment. The ones in the front were mostly taken, so he moved to the back and eventually found an empty one. Opening the door, he found that the compartments were huge; meant for at least eight people.

Sitting himself down on a seat, he opened Maisie’s cage and let her out. The feline stretched and moved to curl up on his lap. Beginning to pet her, Malaki wondered what sort of mischief he’d be able to cause this year.

Today was finally the day. She would finally be going to Blurwelts! Allison had been waiting for this moment for years! Ever since her sister’s started going and would write her stories of all the fun they would have and all the cool spells and friends they made. The brunette honestly couldn’t wait to get there, which is probably why she was up an hour earlier than she needed to be. Oh well, she could just double check to make sure she had everything.

Books-check...and that continued on for a solid four minutes before she was positive everything was where it should be. Well..not everything. “Ollie? Where did you go you little rascal?” Ollie was the name of her familiar. A cute little white weasel. “Come on you can’t play hide and seek forever! We need to go soon!” Ally absolutely could not be late. Especially not on the first day, no, she banished the thought. Only good vibes. She was going to get there on time. She was going to pass all of her classes. She was going to have fun and make friends. Just as she was finishing up her silent mantra in her head, a little furball decided to suddenly jump into her arms, causing the eleven year old to gasp loudly and fall back onto her bed in surprise. “Ollie!” She scolded. He knew better than to just jump out of no where and scare the living daylights out of her. The weasel seemed to understand that the child was upset because he started to use his secret weapon- cuteness. He rubbed his face against Ally’s neck, squeaks coming out of his tiny little mouth. Huffing Allison reached forward and ran her fingers over his little head. “Fine I’ll let you off the hook this time, but it better not cause trouble for me once we get to school.” That was the last thing Allison needed. Blurwelts was her chance to shine, to get a chance to get out of her older sister’s shadows. Surely after this she’d be more noticed by the family right? Of course they all loved her and they didn’t put right ignore the girl but it was just so obvious that they preferred her sisters Greda and Molly. She also wasn’t entirely sure what they had that she didn’t but who knows, at least she had her mom Tricia.

“Ally come down and eat darling!” Speak of the devil. Huffing Ally grasped Ollie, setting him down onto the bed. “You better be in your cage with all your toys when I get back up here.” She playfully warned, fixing the collar of her hoodie. Her parents told her it would be best for her to wear her civilian clothing so it would be better for her to blend into the environment before they got to the entry way. Didn’t want anyone to stop them or call them weird, but she would surely change once she gets to school.

Taking the steps two at a time, she hurried into the kitchen, already smelling her mother’s delicious strawberry pancakes and syrup. Allison’s absolute favorite. Tricia must have been making them since it was a special occasion and she wouldn’t see Ally in a while and since she was the last kid in the house there would be no one for her to spoil after this..unless they had another baby. Oh! They could have a boy, all they had now were girls and her sister’s were pretty prissy. She’d like having a younger brother she could mess around with, the idea felt like bliss.

Practically devouring her pancakes, she could hear her father Dimitri chuckling from the door way. “Slow down there butter cup. The plates not going anywhere.” And yes he might be true but this would be the last she saw of these pancakes and she was going to enjoy them! “I know that I just don’t want to risk kissing the train dad.” If she did that she was doomed! Her life would be ruined! Okay maybe she was overreacting a little bit but she couldn’t help it, this was what happened when she was worried. “You still have an hour and forty five minutes sweetheart. Enjoy your food and then go freshen up so we could leave.” And leave they did.

Walking down the platform, Ally could hardly contain her excitement. Call her a nerd but she actually liked school and this wasn’t just any old school, oh no, this was Blurwelts we’re talking about! The best school ever! She could wait to see what house she got in. Hopefully Beartooth, everyone in her family seemed to have gotten Beartooth on her fathers side and she wanted to be one too!

Once approaching the walls, she stood on her toes and checked one final time to make sure everything was in place. Wouldn’t want anything to just fall out now would we? If that happened Ally would feel so clumsy and stupid. Breaking out into a run, the sudden thrill of going through a freaking wall caused the brunette to laugh, which also caused people to look at her strangely. Blushing she let out a small embarrassed laugh. Oops. “Be good darling.” Her mother Tricia stated, leaning down to wrap her arms around her baby girl. “And write to us as soon as you can. Tell us how you’re settling in.” Her father added. Ally nodded her head, stepping back and out of her mother’s reach. “I will I promise.” Both parents knew it was as good as done. Ally never went back on a promise, holding them like a life source. Turning around her eyes widened at the beauty in front of her. The train was absolutely gorgeous! The whole thing was covered in gold and sparkles so brightly she was afraid she might go blind for a second. Stepping forward, her stuff in tow she gently reached out and ran her fingers over the side. So smooth. Going fully inside the train, she was disappointed to see just how many children were already on board. She knew they should have come sooner.

Huffing, she pushed her way past the hoard finding the luggage area and successfully finding a space for hers. Now to just find a compartment. Sadly the only ones seemed to be in the back. Letting out a sigh, she held tightly onto Ollie’s cage, trudging her way to the back. Grasping the door handle she pushed it olen, not at all surprised to see another kid already there. Stepping inside she sent him a bright smile. Setting down Ollie, she held her hand out for him to shake. Something her parents taught her. “Hi I’m Ally!”

IM NOT AFRAID TO FACE A LITTLE BIT OF DANGER, DANGER—

    giphy.gif

  • // this turned out a lot longer than i thought it'd be, don't expect this length all the time. i just have a lot of muse rn for some reason

Hunter woke up when someone began shaking him gently, cracking open his eyes to see Kat standing over him with a wide grin on her face. Letting out a huge sigh Hunter rolled over, covering his face with a pillow. A tap on his shoulder made him look back over at Kat, who signed, 'it's time to get up.' When Hunter shook his head in protest she grabbed his blankets and pulled them off, making him shriek. Her face was shining, her smile broad. 'Don't wear your robes.' She added, then left.

Shaking his head, Hunter rolled out of his bed, grabbing some jeans and a sweatshirt. Nothing too fancy, Katarina had told him that he'd be changing into his robes sometime during the train ride. As he was slipping his shirt on he felt something brush against his leg and, looking down, he saw Nina looking up at him, her jaws parting in a meow. Hunter smiled, crouching down to scratch between her ears. He gently picked her up, putting her into her cat carrier, and shut her in. He knew that if he didn't do it now, he'd forget to do I and then be scrambling to find Nina before they were scheduled to leave.

Carrying Nina's carrier he headed into the kitchen, setting the carrier on the island. He watched as Nina made herself comfortable, curling up into a bal and tucking her nose under her paw. He gave a little grin, stepping away and looking at his mom fussing over some bacon. Kat was setting the table and his dad was sitting at the table writing in his notebook. Hunter wandered over and peered over his dad's shoulder, reading his checklist for the day. Nothing had been checked off yet and he was still adding stuff to the list. His dad noticed him looking over his shoulder and, with a smile, gestured towards Hunter's seat at the table. Hunter sat down just as his mother walked over with two plates of bacon and pancakes, setting one down in front of Hunter and one in front of Kat. She looked over at his dad and said something, her hands signing along with her words out of habit. 'I'll have plates for us in just a second.'

Hunter's face split into a smile and he snatched the syrup before Kat could get it, pouring a large amount over his pancakes.

    —————

The platform was busy and Hunter was being jostled from all sides, his knuckles turning white from clutching at his trolley. Nina's carrier was perched on top of his trunk and she was looking very upset with all of the bouncing around. He was following Kat through the crowd, their parents following so neither of their children got too far. Kat stopped at the wall, glancing around for a moment before running towards it, passing right through it.

He felt someone press up to his side and quickly glanced over, his mom now resting her hands over his own. She looked back at him, into his eyes, and gave a reassuring smile. She mouthed the words, "On three," and Hunter nodded, looking back at the wall. He felt one, two, three taps on his fingers and they both began running at the wall, Hunter flinching a bit as they came close to it. They didn't crash, though, and instead passed right through and were now surrounded by people who were obviously witches and wizards, dressed in robes of all colours and some waving their wands around doing magic.

Kat was standing a little ways off, having already disposed of her stuff, and she waved them over. She was surrounded by some of her friends and they all smiled as Hunter, his mom, and his dad (who'd just stumbled through the portal) as they approached.

His dad offered to take Hunter's luggage and he gratefully accepted, wanting nothing more than to stick close to Kat's side. Hunter wasn't ever in groups this large and being around so many people was overwhelming. A usual day of his only included no more than six people: His parents, Kat, and his three friends. That was what homeschooling and not gettin out much did to you.

All of Kat's friends dispersed, heading towards the train, and Kat asked their parents if they could leave, too. Hunter's mom gave a wide, tears smile and wrapped her arms around her children, his dad doing the same. When his parents pulled back, his mom signed, 'I love you both. Don't get into trouble. And Kat,' Hunter's mom looked over at him and he frowned as she covered her mouth, making it impossible for him to understand her. Kat nodded, which lead Hunter to believe that it was about him.

Kat grabbed Hunter's arm and pulled him along as they boarded the golden train. Kat saw her friends disappearing into a compartment down the corridor and frowned for a moment, turning to look at Hunter. 'Mom asked me to take care of you and make you sit with me and my friends,' she signed, 'but I know that you don't want that. So you can do your own thing. Go make some friends, Hunter.'

'Thanks, Kat.' Hunter waved and went in the opposite direction his sister was, heading toward the back of the train instead of the front. He felt small next to the older students and bumped into several people while walking. Most of the compartments looked full but there was one almost at the very back that was mostly empty. He paused for a moment outside of it, mentally preparing himself. It's fine, I can speak out loud - even if my voice is kind of odd - and I can lip-read pretty well. No, very well. I'm the champion. A determined expression on his face, he swung the door open and peered inside, seeing a girl and a boy who both looked like they, too, were eleven.

"Hi," he greeted, giving a hopeful smile. "I'm Hunter. Can I sit in here?" His voice was definitely odd, it was too loud and all of his syllables ran together. Despite this, he kept a hopeful and friendly look on his face.

  • Maxwell was awake before the sun even peaked it's head above the tent. She had awoken that morning-5;38 her watch had read-and couldn't go to bed after that. She was going to BlurWelts. The thought whirled inside her head, rattling so loudly in her empty noggin that was was sure her brother might wake up and start crying again. She winced at the thought, smirking at her reaction. Her eyes became much softer as she craned her head so she could see him. He was a small boy, no more than a year old. He had their father's complection and that startings of their mother's crazy hair. Maxwell felt a pang of fear run through her. What if she never came back? What if she was the one who gave them away? The thought of Blurwelts faded from her mind, questions taking it's place. She studied her brother's features, committing them to memory. I won't give you away. The baby boy yawned in response. Maxwell smiled. No, she wouldn't give her family away. after what felt like forever, Maxwell sat up. Dread tumbled from her heart only to land hard in her stomach. At that particular moment, she would've given anything to just stay and coax her brother back into a peaceful rest much like the one she had been so tragically ripped from. I'm going to BlurWelts.

She was going away. Away from safety, from friends. From everything she knew. She would be entering a new world-one where she couldn't be herself. One where, if she did...her gaze flickered to her parents, curled around her baby brother. She thought of the family photos that stuffed their pockets. A frown creased her face. Her eyes darkened. No.

A blur of warm, white, fur raced up Maxwell's leg before racing back down and wrapping around her wrist. Maxwell realised a odd sounds, something between a chuckle and a sigh. "Hey Jinxx." She breathed, rubbing one of her fingers against the ferret's belly. Jinxx wiggled in response, but said nothing. It was like that for a little. Quite. Maxwell took in everything around her. Her parents, her brother, her belongings encased in new suitcases. It would all be normal if only it weren't for the letter from Blurwelts. Maxwell drummed her fingers on her shin, not sure if she wanted to let this moment go. She could still turn back. She could still stay and be here-where it's safe. The idea was tempting. It brought a tear to Maxwell's eye, conjuring grief and pain in her stomach. Her mind clouded with memories of friends saying goodbye watched through tears. Maxwell willed the moment to end.

A small beeping sound stirred the sleeping family.

"Morning" Maxwell greeted, hastily rubbing tears from her eyes.

"Morning, moon ray" Her mother mumbled, reaching out a hand to envelop her daughter. Maybe for the last time. A voice in Maxwell's head chimed. Maxwell ignored it.

"Morning, sweet heart" Her father grinned, his hair messy and lopsided. Maxwell didn't bother to hide her smirk.

"Morning, fellow blood-sucker." Now it was her father's turn to snicker. They both knew that Maxwell didn't drink blood, and didn't have any plans to. Her father still had trouble accepting that, and insisted to his wife that they had raised their daughter wrong. Maxwell's mother-thank the moon-waved him off with nothing more than a blink of her eye. Maxwell admired that about her mom.

"Ready to go to school?" Her mother sighed, trained eyes analysing Maxwell's face.

"Ready as I'll ever be." It came out as a joke, but Maxwell was certain it wasn't.

    -----

Soon after, the family was off. They had camped out a few blocks away from the train station, so it didn't take long to get to the train. Maxwell wished it had. Before she knew it, she was in the hussle and bussle of the train station, staring down platform 9 3/4. Maxwell felt anxiety flood her system. I'm going to Blurwelts. She hugged her mother and father goodbye in a haze. Judging by the time on her watch, she still had plenty of time, but time wasn't the issue. Making friends was. It was time to go. With a sharp, practiced movement, Maxwell bent down and picked up her luggage with one hand her ferret with the other.

"Honey..." Her mother whispered. Maxwell turned around. Please say we can go home. She wanted to cry, but she knew better. Her parents wanted this, so it must be in her best interest. It had to be.

"mmm?" Maxwell hummed, watching her mother pull something from her pocket.

"Here, honey." Her mother unceremoniously handed Maxwell a large blue stone and a bunch of chains and wires. Maxwell recognized the stone immediately- lapis lazuli. It was a magical stone that, along with other things, allowed vampires to walk in direct sunlight. Maxwell was crying before she stuffed the stone in her jacket pocket. Her mother wasted no time and hugged her.

"You can come home anytime, darling." Her mother whispered in her ear. It dawned on Maxwell how hard it was to let her go. They didn't know if she would come back, either.

"I'll come back home." Maxwell croaked, tears rushing down the curve of her chin. Maxwell poured everything into that hug-all the sadness all the fear and the hopelessness until only excitement remained. She gave her mother a squeeze, then her father, and rushed off before she could cry again. Now was the time for new friends. Maxwell intended to treat it as such.

She boarded the train with no problem-a simple, terrifying, show of the letter was all that was needed, much to Maxwell's delight. She hurried throughout the train, pausing at each compartment to see which was the least empty. She remember her mother's advice from days before. Look for the car with the least a mount of kids. If their talking and laughing, maybe don't join, but if they're not-go for it. If you find a kid alone-be their friend. Those are the kinds of people who treasure friendship as much as you do, Maxy.Eventually, Maxwell found one. Two kids where in it, and it looked like they just met with a third one joining seemingly seconds before herself. Panic swirled in Maxwell's throat. She opened the door, catching a few words of the boy in front of her-Hunter apparently. His voice had a odd ring to it, almost like an accent was swirled into it along with something...else. Her eyes flew around the room. Crap! What to say?

"Hey! What's up?" Maxwell plastered on a confident smile. You can do this. "I hope it's not to full in here. Mind if I join as well?"

OOC: Sorry I wrote so much!!

  • Maverick was awake before his mother had the chance to wake him up. It was September 1st, and that meant he would be leaving for Blurwelts. The boy was both excited, but at the same time, very nervous, mainly about his condition. His mother had been exchanging many letters with the Headmistress, discussing how they would handle everything and whatnot. He sighed, but his joy trumped his anxiety, and he leapt out of bed.

“Time to wake up, Mav - - Well, never mind then. You’re already up and ready to go. Get dressed in your muggle clothes and then come down for a spot of breakfast. We need to leave very soon. You’re trunk is all packed and ready to go?” Margaret had just entered the room, and the boy’s nerves just melted away. She brought such comfort and happiness wherever she was. Margaret waved her wand, causing the blinds to be drawn back & his bed to be made as she left the room, humming pleasantly.

Maverick dressed in a hurry, throwing on jeans, a sweatshirt, and sneakers, before bringing his suitcase downstairs to the kitchen. He stopped out of surprise, for there was a gorgeous black owl sitting in a cage on the counter. “You need to keep me updated on your life at school, so I figured having your own owl would be the best way! He just needs a name, baby,” Margaret sang joyfully as she loaded Mav’s plate with bacon, biscuits, and sausage. Maverick couldn’t speak because he was so overwhelmed with emotion! He just hugged his mother, and he managed to say, “Remus. He’ll be named Remus.”

    [...]

“I’ll write every week, mum. I’ll behave, study, eat well, stay healthy, and have fun. You do the same, mum. I love you! I’ll see you soon enough,” the boy shouted over his shoulder to Margaret as he boarded the train. He saw his mum wipe away a few tears, and smiled, so grateful for that amazing woman. Maverick glanced around at his fellow students. He tried to find an empty compartment, but alas, he found none. The only one he saw with available space was one filled with a couple of first years.

Maverick nervously entered the compartment and said, “Hi. I’m Maverick. Do you mind if I sit with you all? The other compartments are full, and...” He bit his lip anxiously and glanced around the compartment, awaiting the dreaded response.
