  • To say Gladion was nervous was an understatement. Sure, going to Hau's house and meeting his family was an inevitability, but that didn't make that milestone any less daunting.

Especially since Hau's primary caretaker just happened to be the kahuna!

Should Gladion do his hair differently? Should he ditch the peircings? What should he wear? He didn't smell like cigarette smoke, did he?

Gladion told Hau it was okay to introduce him as his boyfriend if his family was cool with the whole gay thing, but now he wondered if maybe he was better off playing it straight and saying they're friends. What if Hala didn't like him? What if he forbade Gladion from ever seeing Hau again? What if Gladion said or did something stupid and pissed him off? There wasn't a doubt in his mind that Hala could snap him like a twig or chuck him to Unova if he wanted to.

  • ooc: adding Hau's mom in here now that I am informed! Be prepared for the whole fam!

    Ic:

Hau was a little nervous about this to say the least. His Grandpa and mom were both fine with him being in a relationship with a boy. The things he was worried about were as follows:

    1. Hala knew everything about what happened with Aether and team skull, what he didn't know was that Gladion was correlated with them directly..Hau was pretty sure Hala would immediately recognize him as Lusamine's son (though he wasn't sure if he knew Gladion had been an enforcer for Skull or not), even if he didn't when he was told the name. There was no telling how things would go after that.

    2. Gladion looked edgy (which was hot in Hau's opinion) but if Hau's mom ever saw Hau going out looking like that she'd have a stroke, so having a boyfriend that looked like that? She would immediately be worried, and Hau didn't love to see his mom worried. He tried to forewarn her that Gladion might not be an exact mirror of the baby Tapu Koko she was imagining.

    3. Gladion had a tendency to curse..which was possibly the largest sin known to Hau's entire existence. He prayed that Gladion would either not curse at all or switch the words with some ridiculous counterpart.

    4. Guzma, A and B were around..that probably wasn't going to help Gladion's image, either.

Luckily Hau's mom was very easygoing in most cases, she just got worried about her son sometimes. It would be pretty easy to persuade her that despite any negative first impressions, Gladion was a good person. It was Hala that was willing to act on anything he didn't like. Once he had made a decision it was there pretty permanently, even subconsciously. Despite this he was fairly forgiving no matter the circumstances, so hopefully he would be stern at most and not ban Gladion from coming within thirty feet of Hau at all times.

Or maybe everything would go perfectly and they'd think Gladion was exactly the wonderful darling little sunshine ball they hoped he was..but uh, probably not. Here's to hoping, though.

They'd have to meet him at some point. The sooner they did, the sooner they'd get over it.

    Hau shot Gladion a text.

You coming? They're dying to meet you!

  • Gladion sent a photo of himself to Hau. This okay, or should I change? He asked. He spent hours trying to choose an outfit that wouldn't offend.

-a long sleeve black gengar shirt

    -no peircings or jewelry

-plain jeans that arn't ripped at all

It was about as simple and familiar as he could think of. Nothing too scary, nothing too feminine, nothing too strange or alien. At least he hoped.

Then there was his hair. There wasn't much he could do about it without outright chopping his bangs off. He already got regularly told to get a haircut at work all the time, so he was a bit nervous about what Hau's family might think

  • Hau thought Gladion looked great, but what would his family think?

He tried to put himself in their position and then judge the outfit. A bit dark for Alolan weather, but otherwise it didn't seem to come off as offensive. His hair, well..that was going to stick out like a sore thumb. There was no way to fix it, though. Gladion could try to brush it out of his face for a little bit, but it was trained to fall back into place. Besides, Hau didn't want Gladion to change himself. He wanted his family to know Gladion as he was.

    Looks amazing!

  • Alright. Heading onto the boat. I'll be at the marina in an hour Gladion texted back. Another quick comb through his hair and he took a deep breath. He can do this. Everything will be fine. This was only going to either make or break his relationship...that doesn't help his nerves. Quickly putting his things away (a couple rejected t-shirts and his Kantonian textbook) and he left his room. He immediately returned to grab his z ring.

    Fast forward to Hau'oli Marina

  • Hau was waiting for him, nhappy as always, and as soon as he saw Gladion he waved excitedly. Once Gladion was safely off the boat Hau gave him a quick hug. "You look nice! Are you ready?"

  • Hau laughed. "You'll be fine, don't worry about it."

False assurance; Hau wasn't really sure how this was going to turn out himself, but he could at least act like he did!

They made their way to Hau's house and Hau tried his best to ease Gladion's tension on the walk there by talking about unrelated things (because they just came out with a new malasada flavor and he swears it's the best one yet even though that's what he said about all the other ones)

Once they arrived at the door, Hau turned to look at Gladion to make sure everything was in order. "Last chance to back out." He joked. "You could leave now and pretend you don't know me."

  • "Okay, okay." He said light heartedly, opening the door.

Inside, Hala and Hau's mother were sitting at a table having a chat as they waited. Both looked up as soon as they heard the door open.

Hau's mother looked a little confused at first, but the expression quickly softened into a smile. This boy reminded her of sweet little Lillie!

Hala on the other hand was not impressed. One could tell that he immediately recognized Gladion, and it was not in a positive light.

"Mom, Gramps, this is Gladion." Hau introduced, stepping aside so they could come greet him.

Hau's mother stood and came over quickly, Hala followed behind with a gruff expression on his face.

She was a short, sweet-faced woman. Looked a lot like Hau but with more rounded features.

"Ooh. It's so good to meet you! I'm Hau's mother! Look at you, I expected my Hau to bring home a looker and he delivered!" She giggled sweetly, winking at her son. Hau smiled happily because his mother's reaction to Gladion was better than expected.

"Look at this, Hala. He looks just like Lillie.. You could be related!"

    Hala nodded. "Because they are."

"Well I wouldn't doubt it; The resemblance is uncanny!"

Hau definitely got his personality from that woman.

Once Hau's mom was done having her moment, Hala spoke up.

"I thought I recognized you when you walked in. I don't believe we've ever been formally introduced, my boy, but I'm Hala; the Kahuna of MeleMele Island and Hau's grandfather." He said, holding out his hand to shake. It was a nice gesture, but Hala didn't sound very inviting. He had more of a critical tone in his voice that sounded like one of those parents that requires formalities like "sir" under all circumstances. It was certainly a stark contrast to Hau's mother, who was overjoyed to meet Gladion. Maybe Hala would have been too, if he didn't know about Gladion's questionable past, that is.

Hau gave Gladion a glance, recognizing his Grandfather's distrust for the boy.

Don't mess up, Gladion. He already doesn't trust you.

  • Gladion took a deep breath before entering with Hau. He blushed a little at the mother's gushing, but was not about to protest it. At least he was on someone's good side.

"Alola, Mister Hala. It's a pleasure to finally meet you" Gladion greeted politely. He smiled to try to seem less threatening and shook Hala's hand; despite how he felt the kahuna's eyes glaring into his very soul. Gladion's hand felt so small and frail in Hala's strong grip; and that was his good hand! Hala could probably crush his hand and send him to the hospital right now if he wanted to. Gladion knew he was gonna have to be on his best behavior if he wanted to make it out of here alive.

  • Once Gladion's hand was released, Hala gestured to a seat at the table and sat down himself. Interrogation time.

Hau's mom knew what was up, she quickly excused herself to go start preparing dinner.

Hala told Hau to help her. He almost objected but was quickly given a look, so he was excused for the time being as well.

    And then there were two.

Hala wasn't playing any games; with his hands folded neatly in front of him, he jumped straight to it. "So you're Lusamine's son, huh?"

  • Gladion's heart was pounding. He was quite nervous to be left alone with the Kahuna. He shot Hau a look that screamed don't leave me! as if that would do anything.

"Unfortunately so" he answered Hala's question. Either Hau spilled some beans, or the old man thought to do a google search. It wouldn't take long to find out he was Aether's current president and son of the former one. There was no use in trying to deny it at this point, but at least he could make it clear that he was not proud of that relation.

  • Hau shot back a pitiful look as he followed his mom into the kitchen.

Hala considered that answer for a moment. "Hmn. So you don't agree with how she chose to go about achieving her goals?"

  • "That is correct" Gladion nodded in confirmation. "The former president abused her power, misused our resources and nearly caused an apocalypse. Now that she is getting medical services in Kanto, I have been working to clean up her mess and return the foundation to its intended purpose" he narrated with a certain authority; though there was also a certain scorn in regards to Lusamine

  • Hala's brows lifted at that. He seemed at least a little impressed.

"What about your time with team skull?"

At Hau's first mention of Gladion, Hala had shamelessly done extensive internet research on the guy. When he found an article mentioning team skull, he was quick to ask A and B if they knew of any Gladion while the team was still together. They had not held back in the slightest.

  • Gladion held back an F bomb. Why did he have to know about that!?

Gladion was quiet, trying to choose his words carefully. His involvement with a street gang was a touchy subject. He would have been perfectly fine with keeping that part of his life a secret. Meowths out of the bag, I guess. "...what do you want to know about it?" He asked carefully. Gladion is treading on thin ice and he knew it.

  • Hala raised an Eyebrow. He had half a mind to accuse Gladion of being a Tapu-hating Pokemon-stealing little delinquent shit, but he did not say any such things.

“Why you joined, what you aimed to get out of it..”

..Whether or not he would be justified to kick him out immediately.

  • Gladion sighed before answering. "Long story short: I was homeless at the time and needed some way to feed myself and my pokémon" it was the truth. Food costs money. Clothing costs money. Rent costs money. He was in a very difficult situation.

There was his ulterior motive to train and get strong enough to defeat Lusamine once and for all, but survival was the primary reason. He can't save the world if he's already dead.

  • “There are plenty of homeless people perfectly content on getting by without being immoral.” He pointed out. “But I suppose that’s understandable given your situation..what about Hau? What made you gain interest in him?” He questioned, not really understanding what Gladion saw in his grandson.

He didn’t mean to be stereotypical, but Hau didn’t seem like anybody Gladion would be interested in. He was very skeptical that Gladions ulterior motive wasn’t exactly..a nice one.
