  • Not long ago, a couple years or so, there was a great freeze that froze the land almost completely solid. Lakes and rivers became just solid thick ice that barely any creature could drink from. Forests shriveled- even pine trees were vulnerable. Prey became scarce, and times were tougher for every creature. Many left the following week to find a tropical paradise, but many also chose to accept their fates and die. Some areas were not completely inhabitable- but they were so precious outsiders were rarely allowed inside. Most of these sanctuaries were populated by humans skilled in the art of dragon hunting. These strong groups nearly wiped out the whole species, until the great freeze stopped them. It was a relief to the dragons that they were not being constantly hunted- but the frozen land was not a blessing to them either. Small groups of Dragons set off alone into the barren wasteland in search of a new home...

And then there were the ones left beind, either too weak or stubborn, or simply just unliked to go with. female_dragon_headshot_for_aria_by_abyssal_light-d89dinn.png

In her case, Camille was unliked. She was not strong, but she could put up a fight if she had to. And she was doing so right now. Not against another being, but against the blizzard that ravaged the area. Her wings were folded against her sides as she trudged on, fumbling amongst the bitter cold snow. Usually dragons didnt get cold from their internal body heat, but this was different. This weather was different, and deadly. Her yellow eyes squinted, trying to find cover. And there it was- she could barely see the small cave entrance through the thick white snow pouring down. She didnt delay any longer, using her strength to bound across the deep cold substance and into the welcoming darkness of the cave. It was still cold, but it was warmer in here than out there. Oddly, she still didnt feel relaxed despite being saved from being burried alive. A figure laying down in front of her sent alarms through her head to get out. But..whoever they were. They were wounded. She could smell the drying blood- This dragon had a spear sticking out of their leg. Camille swallowed hard," H-Hello? Are you alright?" She couldn't help but tremble in her words.

Ryland shifted his well-muscled body in an attempt to keep pressure off of his wounded leg. The blood that dried up around the puncture seemed to just be another blood red marking that adorned his entire body but the strong scent of blood said otherwise. His eyes were screwed shut as if he had accepted that this was how he was going to die, either freezing or starving to death in the wretched damp cave he had taken cover in since the previous night. He wouldn't be freezing to death if he would've swallowed his pride and left with the other dragons. He would be somewhere far off partaking in hunts and exploring new lands but he never liked company anyway. Last time others tried to band together with him, he ended up in a furious skirmish and a tattered wing. Suddenly muffled footsteps pulled him out of his thoughts. Ryland prayed to the gods that whoever or whatever was out there would simply pass by and make his life just that much easier. Of course the gods were too busy to hear his silent pleas as the footsteps came nearer until the stranger was inside. Silently his steel grey eyes slid open and he let out a low rumble of a growl that echoed throughout the dark space menacingly. It was a female, by her slender figure and soft voice but that didn't deter the hostile look in the drake's stormy eyes. His leg ached in protest as he pushed himself to his feet and faced the intruder. "I'm fine. What do you think you're doing in my cave?" The words seethed from between his lips and he struggled to keep himself upright but showed no signs of backing down yet, he was far too stubborn.

  • Opening her mouth slightly Camille looked for words." I-I uh... I didn't know someone else was here." She explained."and there is a bad storm going on so I fled to cover, which was here." Camille was a quiet and timid dragon, having a hard time talking to others. Especially hostile strangers. She was a bit more comfortable with well known dragons, but not recently. Especially since said 'well known' dragons left her." I hate to be- uh... rude...but you don't seem to be exactly fine.." she claimed. She was a bit nervous, not wanting to face off this dragon, even being injured she might not survive the wounds she could suffer. He clearly didn't want her here, but going outside was equally just as bad." If you don't mind, I'd like to stay till the storm clears- or at least till morning? You wont even know im here." Camille asked. She backed away a bit, trying not to seem like a threat.

  • Fighting the urge to roll his eyes and snap at her he let his eyes flicker to the dimly lit entrance. It was true that there was a bad storm, he couldn't see anything but pure white as countless snowflakes pelted down from the sky. Silence overlapped the haven and he moved his stormy eye back to her, they reflected the cold of the outside, almost like they could freeze anything if he wanted to badly enough. She was timid and didn't seem to want a fight. That is, until her next words left her green scaled jaws. She hated to be rude? This time he didn't bother holding back a roll of his eyes and a scoff. Who was she to determine whether he was fine or not? Of course he really wasn't fine just simply in denial that he was in a large amount of pain as he hated to show weakness. What he couldn't deny was that he was in no condition to chase her out even if he did want her gone, he had to be content with staying in the same vicinity with another dragon. Internally scowling at the thought he moved as far from her as possible and slowly sank to the cold floor taking care to keep pressure off of his leg. He didn't voice a straight answer just a gruff "Don't bother me when you leave." After years of solidarity it was odd to have another in the same confines as him, especially a female. He never felt the need or want to pursue one and embarrassingly enough he didn't really even know where to start. Yet still, Ryland would rather keep it that way until the end of his days which he wasn't sure would be long if he didn't get the infernal spear out of his leg before it began festering.

  • Camille felt great relief wash over her as she too sat as far away from him as possible, near the entrance in case he changed his mind and decided to- awkwardly chase her out. With that spear in his leg she was a bit more safe. But this didnt settle well in her mind. She wasn't a monster, she had some sympathy. But Camille didnt know how it would go of she tried to help me with the spear- either he would be utterly repulsed by the idea of help and get angrier than he already seemed to be, or he let her, and they'd get it out only for it to probably bleed out everywhere. Then again, he would probably not even let her near. Looking away she laid down against the wall, staring at the snowy outside world. To be honest the green dragon felt uncomfortable, the tension was thicker than the snow outside.

  • Small talk? Ryland had nearly forgotten the meaning after being alone for so long. He didn't turn bitter because of the icy weather, he had always been that way. At least since his sister died several years back. Even when the lands had been lush with prey and flourishing plant life he had been an angry at the world, the summer sun hadn't done a thing to melt his cold heart. The snowy weather that came just a couple of years back only complimented his hard personality and icy heart. Trying to ignore the figure of the other dragon that lay by the entrance he twisted and clamped his maw around the wooden weapon that protruded from his appendage. Pulling rather roughly he was met with the same outcome as before, a searing almost unbearable pain and no leeway. The spear never moved no matter how many times he had tried over the numerous hours it had been in his leg and finally the drake came to the conclusion that it was barbed, he would have to push it through rather than simply pull it out. Fresh blood began seeping out of the wound and a long flow of curses left his mouth. His hard gaze landed on the stranger and it took everything in him to begin speaking and do something he hadn't done in a very long while- ask for help. "Since I'm letting you stay...help me get this thing out of me." It was meant to be a question on whether she would be kind enough to help him but as usual his sharp tongue had mind of its own and demanded her help as reimbursement for him letting her take shelter here.

  • She turned back to look at him, a little startled he had said anything. Camille got up though and made her way over, being very cautious. She could see the mess it was making already. She stayed standing, looking at the spear and thinking of what to do after it was out. It had to be pushed out, either way it was going to hurt and bleed. But pulling it out would leave terrible damage. Camille had some experience with wounds, not a lot, but she knew they didnt have resources around here anymore. Turning her head to the entrance and going back to it, she used her claws to grasp a ball of snow, awkwardly walking back using three leggs and setting the snow down beside him." You can't move while we get this thing out..." she explained." Are you able tell me how long this has been here?" She didnt mean to sound demanding, but in case of infection...

  • He watched her rise and tentatively walk over to his black and red figure. He didn't move his gaze away as she stared thoughtfully at the spear and then move to the entrance. For a fleeting moment Ryland thought she was going to leave, that she had deemed him rude and unworthy of her help. His tail lashed and he inhaled to let out sharp malignant words but he stopped himself as she turned back with a ball of snow clasped in her claws. Eying her quietly the male nodded as she told him to keep still. "Two days, today is the third." His voice was curt and he worked to not meet her eyes. He probably looked weak and worthless huddled in the cave not able to take a spear out of his own leg. "Push it through as fast as you can." This would hurt no doubt but going slow would only make it worse for him so he prayed the stranger already knew a simple thing like that as he braced himself for the pain to come.

  • She nodded."I'll try." She claimed. Camille didnt give any warning, but pushed hard onto the spear with all her might and felt it come out. She did her best to get it out smoothly. But at least it was out. Seeing all the blood afterwards she grasped the snow and used her paws to put pressure on the wound, as if to stop the blood. The snow would help a bit, she hoped. Camille was afraid if she let go now it wouldn't stop bleeding, but she didn't know if his temper would come at her for touching him. Eyes on the wound she tried not to think about it."are you feeling okay?" She couldn't tell how much blood he had lost.

  • He winced and let out an animalistic sound that sounded somewhere between a hiss and a dangerous growl. The feeling of his skin being sliced open on the other side of his leg made the drake dig his sharp claws into the dips of the uneven ground below him. When the cold snow came in contact with the wound it helped ease the pain for a few moments until he realized that her paws were on him. In an instant his eyes grew hard and he struggled to moved away. "I already told you I'm fine!" He snapped his muscles tensed in anguish. The cave began ever so slowly moving in odd patterns but he brushed it off and focused his glare on the green stranger. Anyone else would probably have thanked her profuselyfor the help but he just wanted her as far from him as the cave would allow, surely he would manage to stop the bleeding himself right? The walls of the cave began moving more vigorously and he blinked a few times to clear his vision as he looked at the blood that had began puddling at his foot. "On second thought, I don't think I'm doing too good." Uncharacteristically he let out a faint dry laugh that didn't hold even a tinge of amusement. "It hurts...a lot." His voice was barely audible but as soon as those words and the ones before left his mouth he regretted it and hoped she somehow didn't hear.

  • Camille was unbelievably startled, having already moved back a bit for safety, hear pounding harshly against her chest. Frightened and a bit discouraged, she looked away until he spoke again. Eyeing the puddle of blood she let out a shaky breath before talking." Apply pressure onto it." Camille told him, feeling a bit hesitant to tell him what to do." Can you breathe fire?" She suddenly asked, getting an idea. He could cauterize AND potentially stop infection. Now, she would have done it, but... She could fly, she had scales and claws and teeth- Camille couldn't cough up a spark if she wanted to. Maybe once or twice she got a burst of smoke, but she hadn't breathed actual fire at all. She had a hard time admitting that, and it wasn't something she openly shared."I'd do it myself, but...uh.." She also wasn't that fond of having physical contact again.

  • Ryland watched as she darted back like he had just confessed that his skin was riddled with poisonous glands. He would have found it amusing if he didn't have a hole in his leg with blood steadily leaving his body. Even surprising himself he did as he was told and firmly clamped his paw over the wound gritting his dagger like teeth in the process as it seemed to just hurt more than help. Ryland rolled his piercing grey eyes at her question. "What dragon can't?" He huffed before speaking again. "Why does that matter any-" he cut himself off as he realized what she was suggesting. She expected him to practically light himself on fire? But then again there was logic in doing so. He quieted for a long moment, staying in brooding silence, something he was growing increasingly good at. Once again he ended the tense silence with his gruff tone. "But what? Why don't you?" If he were to be frank Ryland didn't really care why she wouldn't do it, he just needed a distraction while he inhaled and prepared to let flames from his own maw lap at his wound in hopes of stopping the bleeding.

  • She watched him through the whole process, slightly cringing at how painful it looked. When he asked, she wasn't sure if she should just lie about it or tell him. Camille let out a long sigh, narrowing her yellow eyes slightly and quietly, almost under her breath but just barely audible," I'm the dragon who can't, okay?" It kinda felt bad, but at least someone knew instead of her just keeping it to herself forever."Never could. If I tried I'd just fill this cave with smoke." Camille never thought she'd share her impairment with a stranger. She didn't know what he would say, maybe he'd laugh or be amused. For a dragon she was kinda lame. And it was hard to come to terms with that sometimes. Sitting down and pressing her wings against herself she kept her eyes on the wound, avoiding any eye contact that might have been sent her way.

  • Snapping his jaws shut the fire that had illuminated the small space for a short moment was extinguished. The blood had dried and he's was no longer losing a steady stream of the crimson liquid. The flesh that had been touched by the flames still felt like it was smoldering but he ignored it as best he could and instead focused on the other dragon's soft spoken words. She had been so quiet he wasn't even sure if he heard her right. A dragon that couldn't breathe fire? He didn't plan on talking to her anymore but curiosity got the better of him. Looking up he thought he would be meeting a pair of yellow eyes but they were averted to his leg as if she couldn't bring herself to look him in the eyes. "Were you always like that? Or did something happen?" Suddenly his mind raced with uncertainty. Should he thank her? Of course not that was her reimbursement for him letting her stay there. Yet still his jaw parted and he awkwardly voiced his thanks. "Thank you, for uh...you know."

  • She looked at him for a quick moment." Its the least I could do to repay you for letting me stay in here." She commented." You're welcome." Sitting up now and looking outside Camille answered his previous question." Well, yeah. I haven't ever breathed fire before." She felt her shoulders shrug slightly." Its not that bad though, I just have to be more careful to avoid fights. And stay out of the cold." Camille was a bit ashamed of herself for not being able to, but a part of her had already come to accept it, even if she was still uncomfortable with telling others. Moving back to the spot by the entrance she laid down."I'll leave before morning."

  • We can ts to the morning if you want, whatever is fine!

Ryland didn't offer any words of reassurance or anything, not that he even knew how. He simply turned his obsidian back to her, studying the wall of the cave as if it were the most interesting thing he had seen in a while. However, his mind was lingering on the reasons of the female even being here in the first place. Why didn't she just leave with everyone else? Surely it would far easier for a green dragon to hunt in the cover of lush grass and undergrowth rather than the pure white snow? Not to mention the struggle of trying to keep warm without the ability to breath fire. Quickly he brushed off the thoughts. He shouldn't care about her reasons of being here, the only thing he should care about is how soon she would be leaving. Giving no sign of acknowledgment to her words he sighed inaudibly, there wasn't a chance he was going to get any sleep tonight being in the same space with another dragon.

  • // will do, btw if you have any plot ideas feel free to let me know :)

Camille got her sleep soon after, but waking up she seen darkness still. Blinking a couple times she sat up and looked at the entrance, seeing it covered up in white snow. A bit of it was in the cave already, having collapsed in the entrance. Looks like she would have to dig out now. It was freezing in here, though now that the entrance was blocked no wind whistled through. Hopefully it wasn't that deep. Camille got up and made her way to it, feeling hunger gnaw at her stomach a couple times as she dug her claws into the snow. It was cold, colder than she expected. She didn't even bother to see if the other was awake or aware they were trapped for now. The snoor she dug the better, letting it sit would be worse, as it could become hard. Using her strength she dug a bit more frantically, upwards to see how deep it really was. This was going to take awhile. Stomach growling, she sat down, huffing.

  • Hmm I was thinking that his sister was killed by the humans a while back so they could come into the picture somehow? Make him all bloodthirsty and all. Or there could be another male dragon and suddenly Ryland finds himself getting jealous lol. Idk if I think of anything better ill let you know!

The only sign that showed Ryland was still up was the occasional bored twitch of his long raven colored tail. His stormy eyes were closed as images of his sister danced in his mind. Grief constricted around his heart but he didn't dwell much more on the feeling at the sound of movement coming from the other side of the cave. Silently he moved so he could watch the female rise and gaze at the entrance. His eyes wandered over her and to his discomfort he didn't find her absolutely revolting, maybe even the slightest bit pretty. Lord, being confined in this dark cave for three days was really starting to get to him. Scowling at the thought he watched her struggle with digging the snow away from the entrance for a while before sitting back in near defeat. "Having trouble?" He finally spoke with an uninterested tone and showing no signs if intending to help.
