    ---

Kim's breathing grew rapidly as she ran away from a large swarm of walkers. With her luck, she was out of bullets, so she couldn't even shoot at them. Thankfully, she had her knife and her sword on her back. She was lucky she had thought it looked cool and bought it awhile back, before shit hit the fan. Everything had changed that one Sunday afternoon. All you could hear were sirens, and screams of the victims. The news were racing with the news. The news that the dead were coming back. She had basically been alone her entire life, and that didn't change as the world ended. She had still been alone, fighting and kicking her way through this hell. She made her way into a skyscraper-like building, shutting the door quietly behind her. She found a piece of wood and put that through the handles for extra measure.

  • Adrian's feet pounded heavily against the concrete, eyes stretched wide as he looked for an opening to dip into. A wave of walkers were following him, only gaining more and more members as they passed new alleyways and swarmed buildings. Their shrieks and moans filled his ears and he could practically feel their hot breath on the back of his neck. He had a large and heavy metal bat in hand; he hadn't been fortunate enough to find a gun during the first few hours of hell. All the weapon stores had been sold out rather quickly, and the ones left behind had long since been torn to shreds. It was a miracle how he had survived this long with only a bat and a hunting knife.

Without thinking, Adrian made a sharp turn into the first building he saw; a skyscraper of sorts. He was panting and breathing hard as he tore up the stairs, looking for a floor that didn't seem completely infested. He would open a door, only to be greeted by a snarl and reaching, decomposed hands. Fuck. He climbed another flight, his legs becoming lead as he pushed himself farther and farther.

He dove onto the next floor, sweat dripping off of him as if he had just been in a shower. It seemed quiet and that was good enough for him. Adrian slammed the door behind him, taking his time to catch his breath and look around. He could make out a small swarm at the end of the very long hallway, causing him to cut off his ragged breathing and watch with wide eyes. They didn't notice him, not yet, at least.

Lotta muse ^^, you don't have to match the length//

Kim ventured up the ragged stairs, towards the second floor. She assumed it would be safer there, just incase the walkers managed to break through. She got very lucky during the apocalypse. She already had weapons at home due to her paranoid self, and she was stocked with food and water; once again, she had been very paranoid but it worked well for her. After reaching the second floor, she was met with torn up nails and hands that didn't even look human anymore. She headed towards the third floor, where she opened the door, and saw a male that looked around her age.

She took out her gun and turned the safety off. "Turn around. Put your hands up," she instructed, eyeing the swarm at the end of the hallway.

  • Adrian cursed as he heard what he assumed to be a gun click behind him, along with a woman's voice commanding him to turn and surrender. His eyes were glued to the swarm still and he hoped the woman wouldn't be stupid enough to fire off a shot with them so close.

He gently placed his bat to the ground, hoping it wouldn't cause too much noise, before turning and pointing his hands to the sky. "We're in the same boat," he reasoned almost right away, dark eyes flicking from the tip of the gun to her steeled face. "And I don't have anything you'd want, I can promise you that." Adrian seriously didn't want to piss this girl off. Not only did she have a gun pointed at his chest, but the look on her face held no hesitance. He was playing a dangerous game, and the penalty for losing would be his life.

  • Her gaze shifted from him to the walkers. "There's about ten," she said, handing him the gun and taking out her sword. She didn't think he'd have the guts to shoot her, with the walkers so close. He didn't seem like the person to betray someone, either. The walkers had spotted them and were heading towards them; she wouldn't have had enough time to put her gun back in it's hilt. She quickly unsheathed her sword, and started beheading the undead as they walked towards her. "Practice your aim." She said quickly, as she pushed back a walker that was close to biting her. She beheaded it quickly, her sword now slick with blood.

  • Adrian's jaw almost dropped to the ground as she shoved the gun in his hands and dared forward with a sword in hand. He looked to the foreign object in his hands, having no idea how to wield it in any sense. He glanced towards the swarm closing in quicker and quicker and decided to shove the gun in the back of his pants. Now wasn't the time to fiddle with it; they had to act quickly. He would have to practice his aim another time, when they weren't about to die.

He scooped up his bat, following after her and bringing his weapon down on a walker's skull. It practically splattered from the impact, his pants now speckled with half-rotten brains and blood that looked more like oil. Adrian held back a gag; he had never gotten used to the smell, no matter how many of them he killed. Pushing aside his disgust, he continued forward, sticking to the girl's side and striking out with his bat, smashing heads left and right.

  • Together, they quickly killed the 10 walkers in a short amount of time. Kim had blood splattered all over her body, but she didn't seem to mind. She sheathed her sword after making sure the hallway was clear, then turned to him. "My name is Kim." She said plainly, reaching behind him and taking her gun back. She placed it back in it's hilt, and then she examined the mess the walkers had made. She crinkled her nose. "Ew," she said. She hated the smell of walkers. She hated the whole existence of them. They had ruined the chance of her ever having a normal life again.

  • Adrian was breathing heavily again, resting his bat on his shoulder and letting the muck drip off of it. He let her take her gun back and nodded as she introduced herself; considering they had just killed an entire swarm on their own, it seemed only fair to swap names. "Adrian," he said, glancing back towards the mess they had made.

He went to wipe his bloodied hands on his shirt, only to have it come back with even more gore smeared along his palm. "Ew is right," he murmured, resisting the urge to rub his eyes. He didn't know if he would turn from getting this stuff in his eyes, but it would sure as hell be gross. "Good job back there," he said after a small bout of silence. "You kicked some ass."

  • "Thanks. I'm a professional ass-kicker." She said with a mischievous smile. "You didn't do too bad yourself either," she said, examining her now-ruined leather jacket with profound disgust. "Do you have a camp?" She asked, seemingly growing more comfortable with Adrian by the second. She had a camp only a few miles away. She was on a run for food when she got trapped by the large horde that was currently outside the building, and heading past it. She couldn't wait till she got back to the tiny cottage she called camp, where she could bathe herself in the small pond and wash all of her clothes. The cottage had already been surrounded in barbed wire, most likely from it's previous owner. She had found it awhile after the apocalypse started.

  • Adrian nodded in response, a small smirk riding the side of his face. "Good to know," he mused before dipping his head in thanks at her praise. When she asked if he had a camp, he fell silent for a few moments, debating if he should tell her the truth. If he lied and said yes, she might want to meet them and join; that wouldn't be good, waiting around for imaginary people. If he told the truth and said no, maybe she would try to rob him, as he would have no reinforcements.

In the end, Adrian tentatively shook his head no, grip barely tightening on his bat, just in case she tried to pull the gun again. Kim didn't seem the type, but he barely knew her; how could he know? "I've been on the run since this thing started," he explained lightly. "What about you?" He pressed.

  • "I was on the run at first, then I found a small house. When the horde passes, wanna check it out?" She offered, sliding against a wall and landing on the floor so she was sitting down. She grabbed her gun out and turned the safety back on, then put it back up. She was almost glad for Adrian's company. She hadn't talked to anyone since the apocalypse; she hadn't really even spoken to anyone before it, either.

  • Adrian watched her move, head tilting to the side as he did so. Once again, she surprised him as she offered to take him to her camp. He noticed how she didn't bring up anyone else when speaking, but he had to make sure. Just in case. "Hm, well, that depends," he said in a light and humorous tone, although the intent behind it was serious. "Do you have twenty beefy men waiting here to ambush me?"

He, despite his caution and obvious nerves, was somewhat excited for a chance to have a companion, even if it were temporary. Almost all his friends had split for died in the first 24 hours; a time he very bitterly thought back to often.

  • She paused to look at him. "I don't have anyone else at camp. It's just me. It's always been just me. " She had never tried to join forces with anyone before Adrian. She had always thought they'd be better off without her, and that she would also be better off on her own. She hadn't admitted it, but she had been growing lonely. The world was ending, and she was by herself with no one to talk to or look out for her.

  • Adrian nodded, mouth drawing into a tight line as she met his gaze. "I'm down, then," he offered, once again shouldering his bat. "All we have to do is get past the hoard, then we'll be good to go, yeah?"

He turned and pressed an ear to the door, not being able to make out any of the distinguishable sounds of walkers. "I think we're clear," he mumbled, voice suddenly lowering just in case.

  • She nodded and watched as the last few stragglers made their way away from the building. Kim went to the door to the stairwell and opened it. She quickly headed down the stairs to the first floor silently. "You ready? "

  • Adrian nodded at her question, following in her wake with caution. As they traveled downwards, he took more than a couple moments to slip down a hallway to gently close a door, locking more and more walkers in rooms until another poor sap came along to free them. Finally, his shoes met concrete and he peered from one way to the street to the other. Surprisingly, the crowd that followed him here had dissipated into separate builds, pursing whatever noises caught their attention. There were only a few stragglers left.

In order to save on energy and noise, Adrian whipped out his hunting knife, approaching one from behind and easily slipping the blade through their cranium and into their brain; the walker fell without another sound. He looked back to Kim, gesturing her onward. "Lead the way," he said, voice lowered and steady.

  • She nodded and headed west, following a road that had broken down cars. She stopped at one, opened the door, and searched through it. When she was done searching, she came out of the car with a few protein bars. She tossed one to Adrian. "We're a team now. We share," she said, stuffing the rest in her pack. "Whatever we get, we trust each other with it." She said, nodding her head slightly.

  • Adrian caught the protein bar with one hand, turning it over and peering down at the dusty label. It was probably stale by now, but he didn't care too much. Anything that he was able to eat and sustain himself would fly. "If that's so then here," he fiddled with his backpack a few moments before worming a water bottle free of it's contents. It was about half-way full, but the water was fresh, as surprising and unlikely as that seemed. He tossed it towards her, dipping his head both in thanks and welcome. "I have another in my pack," Adrian said. "You can keep that one."

  • "Thank you," she said. She hadn't had a portable water bottle in a really long time. She continued walking, her thoughts wandering to Adrian. She wanted to learn more about him. Kim hadn't really talked to anyone in a long, long time. She had been in juvie all of her teenage years, so she had never really learned about how to socialize. She had been accused of her father's murder when she was 12. She demanded a second trial when she was 18, so they gave it to her. She was found innocent and was let free.

  • Adrian nodded again as she thanked him, focusing his eyes back to the road that stretched long and far in front of them. He had been moving since the moment everything had gone to shit, yet he had never been this far away from the town before. If she were to ditch him for some reason, then he would be completely lost. He tried to ignore that thought of uncertainty, convincing himself that she wouldn't leave him. Like she had said just moments before; they were a team now. They stuck together.

They walked in silence for a few moments, Adrian rested his bat over one shoulder. "So," he said at last, breaking the silence but making sure to keep his volume in check, just in case. "Who were you before all of this happened?" In order for him to trust her, he would have to get to know her someway or another.
