  • SOMETHING SO MAGIC ABOUT YOU!

    Berrykit - male - 5 moons - kit - Thunderclan - easy

Berrykit's cough had been worsening fast lately, his lack of sleep from being hungry and having to sneak out to avoid being heard coughing, wasn't really helping his recovery. This was one of those time, incredibly early moment, when he awoke his throat caught. He couldn't breathe as he stumbled out of the nursery. He held his breath until his made almost across camp, conveniently close to what in his mind was the 'empty' medicine cat den. As sometimes Cherryburn slept in there with Copperkit, but he didn't think tonight was one of those nights. He then let loose his cough. It racked his entire body, and though he was the biggest kit in the nursery, he looked small and weak in his fit. This is why he crept into the middle of night in the dark to do it. This way no one would see him like this, no one would worry about him, and everything would end up okay. For a moment, he was okay, even though he could sense the moment would not last long. He straightened his posture and looked up to the sky. There were his ancestors looking down on him, all the brave cats before him. His blood felt important for a moment, his body felt alive. It was ripped away when he started coughing again, his head yanking down as he tried to stifle the sound by coughing into his own fur. This bout was more violent then the last, as he was close to crying with how painful it was beginning to feel.

*:・゚✦ The medicine den was never empty when Copperkit was involved, and exponentially moreso when the frigid cold touched Thunderclan's collective lungs and bit at the toes of those braving the storm. Anyone passing by on whim could hear the tell-tale sounds of Copperkit and her latest bout of pneumonia or the flu or even bronchitis, because no illness seemed off limits when speaking in terms of the fragile, frail kit. Unfortunately, with a perpetual eddy of cats always flowing around her, either looking at her with pity or caution or love, it was only expected that someone would catch whatever she had. Copperkit was honestly surprised it had taken so long, but her fears were finally put to truth when she heard the sounds of wheezing and coughing just outside of the sage and brambles that made the medicine den.

Slowly, quietly, Copperkit snuck from her nest and out into the cold, hardly making a sound due partially to her tiny size, with the other half attributed to her caution. As she grew closer to the cat, she could feel her throat tighten and her heart sink; Berrykit. She got Berrykit sick. If it were a warrior or an apprentice, she would have felt bad but not so devastated as she did in this moment. Berrykit didn't deserve this, she thought, after all he had done for her and after all he had risked to make sure she felt nice, happy, and accommodated. A large part of her desperately wished it was nothing serious, and that a kit as strong as Berrykit could easily get through it. She felt obliged to speak up about it anyways. "Berrykit," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper but still trembling slightly. "Are you sick?"

As soon as he heard her voice his body froze mid-cough. He had not been expecting anyone to interrupt him, as he had woken up many times to cough the past few nights, though he did usually go behind the nursery. There was just no view of the stars there, and they were a great comfort to a clan cat, that couldn't be helped. Slowly, he unfroze, finishing that cough before swallowing roughly. He knew it was dark and the way he was marked, his dark fur covered his expression, so while his face was turned down he figured out how he would spin this. Then flicking his ear he lifted his head a bright, facade of a smile plastered on his face. His breathe rattled for a moment and he spoke, "No, I just couldn't sleep. The cold air was shocking so....you....know...I coughed a little." He hesitated before adding, "I'm fine. Big and strong Berrykit!" He let out a soft giggle hoping this would be enough to cause her question to be left, though when he giggled it turned into another cough before he could force himself to stop.

*:・゚✦ The cold wind bit insistently at her skin as she stood there, and she could vividly feel little ice crystals forming in her veins and bones with every second she passed in the cold. A little shiver rattled through her body and she could feel her teeth chatter within her head. While she would have liked to dismiss Berrykit entirely so that she could return to the relative warmth of her steadily cooling nest, she couldn't just leave a clanmate in leave. She stepped closer and opened her mouth to taste the air, trying to determine if Berrykit was just lying to keep her in the dark of his affliction. Unfortunately, he could not fool her. "You know, it's okay to not be big and strong for a bit," she stammered gently, her voice comparable the soft wind that caressed their small forms. "If you really are sick, you could get treatment, and once you're healed, you could go back to being big and strong." Now, a small smile touched her face. A passing glance could hardly tell that it was there, but if one focused on her face, they could easily spot the little upward quirk of her maw. As her mind went back to thinking of ways to convince him to tell her the truth, she found her smile had disappeared completely. It looked like she might have to pull from previous experience.

"You know, I liked to think that I wasn't sick either when I was really little. If I hadn't overcome my pride, I would have died. If you just talk to Cherryburn, I'm sure she could fix you up and it'd all go away in a few days, and then you could play again without worrying that you might pass out."

The tom listened to her closely, his eyes focusing on her face. He frowned ever so slightly, "I know...I just. Everyone is getting sick, and it's leafbare so it is hard to find herbs and I don't want to use them if others could need them. I'll get over it I'm sure of it." His eyes were earnest as he spoke to her. He really did mean this at this point. The cold was starting to seep into his fur, "If we talked in the medicine cat den would we wake Cherryburn? It is soooo cold out here!" He flicked his tail to touch her side in a gentle way letting her know she could keep pushing him, it was almost asking her to keep pushing him, because in truth his lung hurt so bad.

*:・゚✦ Copperkit made hesitant eye contact, hoping the glittering, flaxen depths of her iris would help compel him to garner aid from the medicine cat den. "But if you don't use herbs, you won't get over it as quickly. Please, Berrykit?" she pleaded softly, careful to keep her voice hushed, as to not rouse the camp from their fitful sleep. Another bout of violent shivers passed through her and she found her teeth chattering with much more vigor. She nodded quickly to the ebony and ivory kitten in agreement, her shoulders bunching around her thin neck in hopes of getting more heat flowing through her. "I hope not. I'd hate to wake her, but it's really cold out here," she murmured thoughtfully, a little splash of regret and doubt fluttering in her eyes before she turned. She waved her tail and gave a shaky smile, motioning for him to follow her into the den before she disappeared in the darkness herself.

The tom followed in after her, the dark parts of his fur disappearing completely while his white caught some light and almost glowed. He faced into the den searching for Copperkit and didn't stop until his nose found her pelt. He had been afraid and disoriented for a moment, and he let out a tiny cough, though this one more to hide his embarrassment than to relieve his lungs at all. He paused, turning to look out of the den, his eyes instantly catching moonlight and blazing into existence again, bright silver orbs. They looked very moonlike themselves for a moment. He took a rattled breath and turned back to Copperkit. His maw opened as if he was to say something and then closed again as he thought better of it. This process repeated at least three times before he said, "...I just want to be strong Copperkit." His voice was sound almost empty, and extremely weak. He always thought if he was strong his father would like him, or his mother would be more proud, and being strong would make him a better asset to the clan. And right now he felt like he could become nothing, and that scared him. That scared him a lot. He didn't realize however, he was playing with fate, because his young mind didn't understand that cats died from sickness, as he'd never seen it take place. He spoke again softer, "How do you do it?"

*:・゚✦ Her eyes peered desperately through the dark until she spotted her target, with the black patches of his pelt slipping into oblivion and the white patches glowing light a lighthouse on a foggy night. She sailed towards him, nearly tripping over loose stones and catching her paws on outstretched stores of herbs, but only barely managing to stay upright. As her vision adjusted to the extreme dark of the night, she saw his jaw move up and down and blubber like a fish, before a strained, tragic sound came from beneath. She frowned profoundly at his words, narrowing her eyes and furrowing her little brows in distaste, as if she found something wrong in the way he spoke about. Her brows furrowed even further when he wondered how she did it. "I'm not strong, Berrykit," she responded finally, shaking her head briefly and offering a smile that wavered, as if she were to cry with her own words. She desperately held back the waterworks. "But you're strong, and you may not think so yourself, but I disagree. You have lived and survived and thrived even! With all you have done, and with everything that you can do and with all of your potential, you're throwing away your shot by comparing yourselves to other cats. They may look strong, but you don't know what they did to get there, and the circumstances behind it all. You may see yourself in someone, but everycat's life is different and not one of us experiences things in the same way as another. You are strong in your own way... And I guess I'm strong in my own way too," she finished with a final note, a tinge of acceptance and somberness to her voice. She smiled gently and rubbed a paw at her eyes, sniffling in the process. She didn't know where it all came from, and she absolutely stuttered in the thick of it all, but maybe Pumpkinpatch had rubbed off on her.

Berrykit listened to her, his ears pricked forward, and I mean he really listened to her. He let every word sink in, as he resisted the voice in her head trying to combat everything she said. Once she was done talking he listened to her sniffle, and let the quiet stretch for a moment. He needed her words to wrap fully around his brain so he couldn't just say no again. "Okay. I will come to the medicine cat den until I'm better again. I guess you'll be seeing more of me!" Then he padded toward her, and went to sit right by her, offering her cheek a small lick. He smiled, though she may not be able to see it in the darkness and whispered, "You are strong Copperkit. I can't wait until you can really see it and I can chant out your warrior name." Then he giggled whispering, "Copperheart! Copperheart!" He wasn't the best at choosing her warrior name, but the first trait he could think of about her was how much she smiled, so he chose heart cause he knew that was for the kind warrior's. He body was then racked with another cough, and he thought about asking to share her nest, but he supposed his mother was in here somewhere and it would make more sense for him to sleep with her, he also didn't want Copperkit to have a bigger chance of catching what he had, though he was pretty sure she already had it.
