  • The kitten was starting to learn about the terrible nature of leaf-bare; her weakest brother was always sick, Copperkit was always sick, and her own father had fainted from hunger just a day ago. And now her mother was sick. Well, Asterkit was tired of being told to do nothing but sit in the nursery all day, by the same warriors that could do nothing to stop the cascading reactions. Her home was starving, and these RiverClan intruders, periodically wasting their time over quarrels and stealing prey, were partly to blame. With determination in her heart, the young lilac point resolved to not be a burden to her home anymore.

If RiverClan thought they could steal prey from ThunderClan, then she would steal prey from RiverClan!

Being almost a moon shy of being apprentice-aged and already knowing the way to Sunning Rocks after a previous exploration trip, the young girl had an easy matter of retracing her steps and crossing the frozen waters. Stupidly brave? Most certainly, but she had enough cleverness in her to keep from getting herself killed. And it helped that her small size wasn't enough to crack the ice.

Now that she was on the other bank, though, catching prey turned out to be another challenge entirely. After all, the girl had never been properly taught how to hunt prey -- she'd only observed the apprentices as they practiced or playfully tried to mimic her uncle Harrierstrike as a game. Still, the girl was in a hunter's crouch and scurrying through the land, trying to find something to kill and worth taking back all the way to ThunderClan.

The large senior warrior was out hunting - no surprises there. His silver grey frame wound through the frozen feeds of Riverclan territory in search of even the smallest heartbeat of life. Technically he was supposed to be on a border patrol, but everyone was out hunting in this harsh weather. He didn’t think he would find anything... he’d been hunting outside of the river lands recently for food. As it was, they’d been bad at upkeeping the scent on the border recently, leaving it to turn stale and unmarked. So it was with some surprise that Aspenflight came across a section that was very fresh. Turning his nose to the wind the thin tom followed the scent. It was a kit. A Thunderclan kit. Aspenflight used his one good eye to locate where the young feline had crossed over the boarder into the wetlands. Turning from the boarder he began to head inland, following the scent.

The warrior code said to protect all kits, so the senior warrior tried to cool his beating heart. He wasn’t angry as such - probably more disappointed that Thunderclan couldn’t keep track of it’s own children. His tail swished gently across the snowy ground as he crouched low among some reeds, spotting the youngster trying to perfect a hunting crouch. Her stance wasn’t too bad, but her tail was too high and it waved in the air behind her. Standing to his full height - which was considerably taller then most felines and so towered over the kitten - Aspenflight pushed out of the shrubbery. “I think you’ve gotten lost child,” he said coldly, interrupting the young she-cat, “you won’t find much in the way of food on this side of the border.” As he came to stand beside her, he saw she was a skinny lilac point and clearly could do with a feed. However, she was still bigger then his own adopted daughter... “I’ll escort you back to Thunderclan, I’m sure they’ll be delighted I’ve found their missing kit.”

  • sharkpaw had been our hunting on his own, since there was nothing on the current freshkill pile he could stomach eating. he caught sight of his clanmate and decided to catch up with him. maybe aspenflight could give him advice as to where some decent prey could be found. "whew, something stinks," he hissed as he approached. then he saw the little invader. "well now i know why. seriously? even thunderclan kits have no respect for the border? man, you guys are unbelievable."

  • She turned towards them, her tail flicking sassily down by her feet. The kitten was young and foxdung at fighting, but StarClan above! These fish-faces stole their prey and Hopeclaw must have thought they were mean, otherwise he never would have left home. "Funny how you tell me to get off your territory when it's the two of you that we had to force out of Sunning Rocks!" she accused, huffing at Sharkpaw and Aspenflight. She didn't know their names, but she definitely recognized their scent and appearance from that day. She should know, she'd been hiding behind a bush!

The lilac point obstinately raised her chin and waved a paw through the air. "Why in the name of StarClan should I respect your borders when you fishfaces don't respect ours?" she continued, getting mad, and Asterkit tended to ramble when she was mad. Placing her paw on the ground, haughtily turning up her nose, she added, "You can't just cherry-pick which sections of the Warrior Code you'll follow! Then you're just a bunch of ShadowClanners that smell like fish."

  • amusement glittered in the tom's lilac gaze. he looked down at the kit with a condescending smirk, licking his lips. "big words from someone small enough to be my prey," he taunted. "sunningrocks should belong to riverclan anyway, since your useless clanmates don't even know how to fish. it's a disputed territory, and only remains so because thunderclan is so unreasonable. your trespassing here, however, is clear intrusion on well-established riverclan property. so quit your self-righteous whining and fuck off." god, he hated thunderclan. they were so quick to accept newcomers, so willing to make alliances. they had it in their minds that they were so kind-hearted and charitable, but all sharkpaw saw was weakness and hypocrisy. he wondered why he even bothered lecturing this little brat when it was probably already so deeply ingrained in her that thunderclan always had the moral high ground.

  • He was actually sick of ThunderClan at this point. He wanted them to be demolished so bad, and at this moment he wouldn't mind slaughtering a kit just to spit at Hopeclaw's face. "ThunderClan's so-called med'cine ca' is teachin' them to fish," the darkfurred tom would growl, shooting a poisonous look at the kitten. One wrong move and he wouldn't hesitate to rip the child's own spine out his body. He wouldn't care if he got kicked out at this point. ThunderClan was getting too bold and he wanted those felines to be buried in the next blizzard. Since he was young, Sunning Rocks had been the territory of all the Clans until some no-good ThunderClan leader decided to claim it. All the Clans protested but ThunderClan, those high and mighty squirrelbrains, went along with it. After all, arguing wasn't allowed during gatherings and ThunderClan always thought they were more important than the other Clans. "The only Clan cherry-pickin' the code around 'ere is ThunderClan. Bu' if you think yer so high in the righ', 'ow 'bou' we actu'lly cherry-pick the sec'ions o' the code an' I kill you myself, 'uh? Tha' way you migh'y codefollowers can actu'lly be righ' fer once instead o' constantly makin' false claims jus' to win yer arguments. Even ShadowClan, who cowardly allied themselves to BloodClan, know the code be'er than ThunderClan. Yer bein' brainwashed, ki'. The only Clan stealin' from us is ThunderClan; firs' Hopeclaw steals our 'erbs and nex' a ThunderClan ki' comes around to take our prey. A' this poin', yer beggin' fer a war."

The large tom looked from Sharkpaw to Larkthroat in one smooth glance. Neither of the younger males were known for having cool tempers and both wanted to see Thunderclan burn into the the ground. Aspenflight obviously shared a similar opinion of the forest dwellers but he held back the growl that threatened to burst from his throat. Sharkpaw's comments in particular hit very close to home - he often made the 'disputed territory' point loud and clear whenever it came to his opinion on Sunningrocks. However - this, was a child. Nothing more, nothing less. As much as she 'back-talked' them, she was just spouting the words she'd heard from her elders and family. She wasn't a threat to them and to think of her as such was laughable. Yes, she'd grow up one day to be a warrior and at that point her hypocritical opinions would become a problem but for now... Aspenflight flicked his tail against Larkthroat's side. The medicine-cat would be able to see Aspen's own restrained anger boiling in his one-eyed gaze, "as much as I agree with the both of you, and as disturbing as it is to hear that Hopeclaw is passing on our hunting techniques - our quarrel is not with this child."

Looking down at the femme once again, Aspenflight's gaze turned icy, "we will however, be escorting her back to the border, where there will hopefully be warrior to take her back to her mother." They could use something like this as the nail on the coffin for Riverclan's opinion of Thunderclan. Can't even keep track of their own children.

  • Just gonna....

It was annoying. Coldthroat wasn't in shape to go looking for a kitten, and since the white tom had experience in swimming, hunting, fighting, and healing; it was easy to let him search for the missing kit. Asterkit when I get my paws on you... He hissed inwardly and tried his best to follow her scent. Luckily it wasn't snowing today and he followed it to Sunning Rocks. Shiet. "Asterkit?!" He spat to the wind, calling for the kit. He sniffed some reeds and noticed the scent went over the frozen river. He trotted on place for a moment, but fear that RiverClan might do something to the kit once they noticed his scent and herbs on Asterkit was unbearable. The large scarred tom slowly crossed the river, but didn't go further than the other bank. "ASTERKIT?!!"

  • No matter how old he got, there was nothing stopping him from adding fuel to a wildfire. Even in front of kits, the male knew no bounds and there would always have to be someone to pull him back and tell him off. His gaze flickered towards Aspenflight, sour but not furious at the male's attempt at peacekeeping. In all honesty, he would rather they just kidnapped the child and kept him in RiverClan. They'd still feed him, but he didn't want to give the kid back until ThunderClan came here themselves and apologised. Despite all this, he could see the logic in Aspenflight's words. It would be much easier to humiliate the Clan by personally returning the child to their border, showing nothing but a bittersweet sense of responsibility in front of those 'code-loving' hypocrites. He understood where he was going and Larkthroat dipped his head to show agreement and withdrew. But he quickly noticed a faint voice, a sound he couldn't distinguish as words. The source was too far away. Dear Celestials, it better not be another Thundersquirrel. He tried harder to listen, trying to muster the energy to try and control his super senses but as usual he failed miserably. Annoying. "There's someone else," he hissed instead, flicking an ear when the same pattern of sounds but this time clearer managed to travel to his focused attention. If that was Hopeclaw, he was more than willing to snap that tom's neck.

  • The cadence of bickering filled the air, flaring tensions and sparks flying from the borderline that separated the two rival clans.

Ah, it was good to be back.

The RiverClan deputy would come to a stop along the border, amber gaze slowly traveling to the defiant kitten standing before them. Fearlessness radiated from her, and even as she became surrounded by the adult warriors, her confident expression did not waver. She didn’t need an explanantion to know what the fuss was about. It was quite typical of kits to act this way. This one in particular was comically stupid.

    And annoying

At Larkthroat’s hiss, she perked her ears forward, yet she could hear nothing. It seemed as if the medicine cat had a sharp sense of hearing, something she had picked up on recently. He was able to detect sounds before they could reach the ears of anyone else in the clan. It was certainly a useful trait, one she wished she had herself.

“Probably someone looking for her. Let’s bring her back to the border.” Maybe they would find whoever it was on their way back. This was sure a nuisance, but something they needed to deal with. Hopefully, a ThunderClanner would be waiting there to take the kit off their paws.

  • No one had ever seemed to mention Larkthroat's exceptional hearing or 'coincidental' appearances, or at least no one seemed to care. The male had never really forwardly shared the strange phenomenons he experienced, and he still could not control his super senses. Or at least it seemed that he couldn't use it to its full potential, but could hear distant incomprehensible noises (that he so desperately wanted to interpret) which were usually useless for the male. His hearing was more of an inconvenience than any help, but he was working on it as the medicine cat tossed his gaze towards the deputy. For some reason she didn't question him when he said someone was there but it wasn't as if it was bothering him so the tom simply nodded his head. "Near the steppin' stones I think," the male said, taking a guess as he assumed the stranger to be from ThunderClan's territory considering Nightgaze's deduction. It'd only make sense.

  • She stuck her tongue out at Sharkpaw, though she didn't say anything else. The RiverClanners had successfully stumped her, because she supposed that they had points -- which was strange, since she never considered that the fishfaces would have reasons beyond the ones she'd been told or assumed on her own. "I... I didn't know Hopeclaw stole herbs," she mumbled back, tail dropping in a defeated sort of way. Still she lifted her chin as she contested, "But he's not hunting in your river! Pumpkinpatch said he could only hunt in the streams in our territory!" Though if Hopeclaw was stealing herbs, she wasn't sure if he'd stick to Pumpkinpatch's instructions.

Whiskers twitching, she heard Hopeclaw's voice in the distance, though... she couldn't really be sure where it was coming from. Thankfully, the RiverClanners gave her a good guess, especially since she knew that she indeed crossed the border at Sunning Rocks. If Hopeclaw followed her scent trail, then that's likely where he'd have shouted from.

Course in mind, the lilac point shot off like a rocket the direction she came, weaving by the RiverClanners without getting within reaching distance for any of them -- especially those two pieces of work, their medicine cat and the grumpy apprentice. Making it to the nearby bank, she attempted to jump and land on Hopeclaw's back, her fur still fluffed out with a terrified expression on her face. Alright, maybe she'd admit there was a reason why she shouldn't leave ThunderClan territory when she wandered out of camp.

"Swim, Hopeclaw, swim!" she told him, so he'd probably be able to guess by her body language and verbal words that she'd been discovered.

  • He flinched and almost fell over as she landed on his side with his missing leg. But when she yelled to swim, he lunged into the freezing water and began to swim, not caring of her claws and fangs digging in. On the other side, his tail lashed

  • He doesn't care what the kitten says or what she claims. She is pathetic for believing such liars in the first place. However, the way she is stumped amuses him. But moments pass quickly when he sees her bound off into a direction. He follows her with ears twitching like radars until he sees her jump onto a familiar tripod cat. Ack, a nuisance. It is Hopeclaw and Larkthroat is not happy to see him. But he knows that Aspenflight would not want him to fight so he leaves them be, albeit more bitter than usual at his loss. His green eyes narrow at the two of them, the medicine cat noting their faces for next time. He will likely speak to Doestar about this, but he knows that the leader is busy and a living corpse. By now, he is just waiting for her to lose yet another life to starvation. "Strike two," Larkthroat huffs to no one in particular.

  • Once safely on the other side, the alabaster tom turned to Asterkit and spat. "What made you think sneaking out of camp and going onto a different clan's territory was right?!" He yelled at her. "You had the whole clan scared something bad happened to you, and what if it did?! I wouldn't be able to live that down! You're my priority Asterkit. What if you died? What if they had thrown you in the river and you either drowned or froze to death? Huh?!!" He hissed, his whole body fluffed up as he took notice of cats approaching the riverside border. He snorted. "When we get back to camp, you're cleaning everyone free of ticks."

  • The girl's ears flattened against her head at the scolding but... she knew he was right. "They stole our prey," she retorted, stubborn to the last. Her brow furrowed, though, as part of what he said caught and held her attention -- you're my priority. Why? Wasn't he smitten with Petalwhisker? Wasn't he happy prioritizing being an independent I-don't-need-no-friends-I'm-a-smart-healer-dude? She didn't speak up about it, but her mind recorded and replayed it over and over again. As it would do in the future.

Dipping her head, her whiskers twitched as she huffed. "Fine. If you don't tell Momma and Pumpkinpatch about this, I'll stay inside the territory from now on?" she spoke up, trying not to get in more trouble. Honeystep would throw a fit if she knew Asterkit ended up outside the territory, after all.

  • His eyes looked deep into the kitten. His gaze flicked away from her. "I know they stole prey from us. And all who touched the prey will rot in the Dark Forest for it, but that doesn't mean you get to retaliate and steal prey too. That just makes you as low as them." He informed her, his voice softer now. He gave her ears a quick lick. "I'll just tell them I told you to get some garlic for me and you got lost so you climbed a tree. How's that sound?" The alabaster tom meowed softly to her.
