Jay rode on Ariyah, the black fresian following his every command without complaint. He stopped the horse short when he smelled a human. He clucked the horse forward.
After half an hour of searching, he found her, collapsed in the snow. She seemed to be fairly young.
He dismounted Ariyah, and made his way to the collapsed girl. "Sleep." He said softly, and soon enough, she fell back into the snow. He picked her up and put her on the horse, sitting behind her. In this fashion the returned to his castle.
He set the girl in the hay whilst he removed the tack from the horse. He then proceeded to take her into the castle. He took her to the second largest room and lay her in the bed under the covers. He sniffed her soft hair before sitting in one of the chairs farthest away from her.
-
Jay stood up quickly when she woke up, surprisingly graceful for a man of his height. "You are safe for now. What were you doing in those woods?" He frowned as he spoke, a crease appearing between his eyebrows. He stood a good 5 feet away from the girl.
-
"My name is Jayoli, but you can call me Jay. This is my home." He said both confidently and carefully. He stepped a few steps closer. "What did you say you were looking for again?" He said, his sea green eyes narrowing.
-
Jay stood up straight and held very still. She had been looking for HIM. His breath hitched in his throat. "And?" He pressed. He NEEDED to know what was being said.
-
The sound of her heartbeat speeding up finally got to Jay. He stepped back as far as he could, and leaned against the wall. He ran his fingers through his hair. 'Monster.' The word rang through his skull, making him numb with it's truth. "Why would you want to find a monster." He said in a soft voice, almost a whisper.
-
"What? The recluse or the monster?" Jay asked, his eyes pinned to the floor. Her heartbeat was so loud in his ears. He could kill her so easily, but he knew that he wouldn't. That he COULDN'T.
-
He looked at her. "You wouldn't understand." He stated flatly. "You were born a human, not to be hated for what you were." His voice was bitter.
-
Jay flinched as she touched his cold skin with her warm hand. He moved away, even though the warmth called to him. "No. No Rosalind. I was not born human." He was struggling to speak with her so close after being alone for this long.
-
He shook his head. "I can't tell you that." He walked to the window and looked at the snowflakes falling before looking back at her. "You just want to know so you can run back and tell." He accused.
-
"Why is that?" He asked, voice still wary. His eyes found her face.
-
Jay smiled a bit. "I was too."
-
Jay shook his head. "I did something, something bad. Something they couldn't forgive."
-
Jay shook his head. "I can guarantee mine is worse." His voice was sad.
-
Jay shook his head. "What about you? What did you do that was so bad?"
-
Jay nodded. He didn't want to pry, but he couldn't help it. "About what?"
