Before there was anything, there were monsters. And before that, the Dragonborn. Legends say that the Dragonborn were a race of dragons with the ability to change into human shape. Some say they were the children of dragons and gods, while others say that dragons themselves were gods, and that the Dragonborn were actually demigods, offspring of dragons and humans. Whether these tales were factual or not did not matter, but what was real was that for thousands of years, the Dragonborn had benevolently watched over the land, protecting all races from the smallest pixies to the largest orcs. That is to say, until the humans came along. For they did not see the Dragonborn as gentle gods, they saw them as the monsters they really were. From there, the once peaceful land sprung into chaos and disharmony, pitting Dragonborn against human, until it finally ended when the Dragonborn hid in the icy norths. Years passed, and the humans either thought that the Dragonborn became extinct, or that they were never real, and simply only existed in legends and fairy tales told by the village elders. But unbeknownst to all of them, the Dragonborn were very alive. How do we know this?
Because we are the Dragonborn.
Dragon Types
European Dragon
The European dragon is the most common type of dragon. It has a medium length body, bulky build, and a slightly longer neck. It contains large wings protruding from its back, four legs, two in the front and two in the back, slightly long tail, two horns, and scales completely covering its body.
Wyvern
Wyverns are dragons very similar to the European, albeit a bit smaller. They have a lot of attributes to them, such as bulky build, two horns protruding the top of the head, and even the slightly elongated neck and tail. However, their most noticeable difference is their legs. Instead of having four legs, like the European dragon, wyverns only have two legs; their back ones. Because of this, their wings have evolved to move towards the front of the dragon, similar to a bird. Their wings are also accustomed with small hooks to help them cling onto things easier, like that of a bat. Their back legs have also become less foot like and more talon like, so they can grip on to objects and prey.
Knucker
The knucker is very thin and lanky compared to the other dragons, and is often confused with a juvenile European dragon. It has four small legs and very tiny wings. It is one of the few dragon types to not have horns, however, it makes up for this lack with its venomous bite.
Drake
The drake is the most similar in appearance to the European dragon. It has a thicker a build, four legs, two horns, short tail, and no wings. It is the smallest dragon, only being slightly bigger than a wolf. It is extremely durable, able to survive both the hottest and the coldest of climates.
Wyrm
Like it's name suggests, the wyrm is the only dragon to be completely devoid of limbs. It has a long, snakelike body and is surprisingly large. It is easily confused for a large snake, since it has no wings.
Lindwurm
The lindwurm is a close relative and is very similar to the wyrm. It is very long and lanky, with a long snout and two short horns. It only has two front legs, however, they are very close to the ground, much like a crocodile.
Amphithere
The amphithere is a very interesting specimen. Unlike most dragons, the amphithere is covered mostly in feathers. It contains a pair of wings, no legs, and a long tail and body.
Chinese Lung
The Chinese Lung, or the Chinese Dragon, is a very interesting type of dragon. It has four legs and no wings, but still has the ability to fly. This is due to a combination of a magical dust that the Chinese Lung excretes and the pulsating movements the Lung makes with its body. The Chinese Lung has a lot of mammalian features, such as antlers, whiskers, and tufts of fur layered across its scaly body.
Japanese Lung
The Japanese Lung is very similar to the Chinese Lung, with slight differences. For one thing, it has a much more skinny and lengthy than the Chinese Lung. It's most notorious difference is it's face. While most dragons including the Chinese Lung have rounded, thicker faces, the Japanese Lung has a much more slender and thin canid-like snout.
Undead
Undead dragons can look like the shape of any other dragon, the main difference being that they are skeletal. Since they are a skeleton, undead dragons either can't shapeshift into a humanoid form at all, or they turn into walkers instead of humans.
Beast
While the Chinese and Japanese Lung have some mammalian attributes, the Beast dragon is almost completely a mammal. The only reasons why it's considered a dragon is because of its body shape and powers. Beast dragons are covered in all fur, and occasionally some feathers. It is the only dragon to contain paws rather than feet. They can have a wide array of mammalian qualities from antlers to even pouches in rare cases.
Elemental Types
Fire Dragon
Fire dragons are the polar opposite of Ice dragons and are the most common draconic ability. Fire dragons can breathe and summon fire, have complete control over fire and lava, and are immune to high temperatures.
Ice Dragon
Ice dragons are the elemental opposite to fire dragons. They can withstand cold temperatures, breathe and summon icy blasts, and have complete reign over ice and snow.
Water Dragon
Water dragons are the opposite to its fellow element, the plant dragon. Dragons with the water ability can shoot a powerful blast of water out of their mouths or even limbs. They have the added abilities of being able to alter the water's temperature and underwater breathing.
Plant Dragon
Plant dragons are complete opposites to water dragons. Plant dragon can shoot razor sharp leaf blades out of their mouths and have the power of botanokinesis, or the ability to manipulate plant life.
Air Dragon
The air dragon's opposite is indeed the earth dragon. The air dragon can blast high bursts of air out of their lungs and into any attacking opponents. They can create high gusts of wind, and even tornadoes in rare cases. They're regarded as the best element, when it comes to flying.
Earth Dragon
The earth dragon is the elemental opposite to the air dragon. Often confused with the plant dragon, dragons with the ability of earth can manipulate the rocks and ground around them, while plant dragons can only control vegetation. While their breath isn't anything too out of the ordinary, sometimes they can breathe out chunks of rock, along with typical carbon dioxide.
Dark Dragon
The only opposing element to the dark dragon, is the light dragon. The dark dragon is an interesting element. It controls the darkness and shadows around it and uses it to its advantage. It also uses this as an opportunity to camouflage itself. Some say that dark dragons can even manipulate the dead, but this is just a rumor.
Light Dragon
The light dragon is the element that cancels out the dark dragon. Dragons with the light ability can control the light around them and use it as a defense mechanism, similarly to dark dragons.
Lightning Dragon
The lightning dragon is actually the polar opposite to the divination dragon. This is because, while lightning dragons control physical energy, aka lightning, divination dragons control cross-dimensional energy mentally. Lightning dragons can strike others down with their lightning, using their electric breath or "shocking" claws. The most powerful lightning dragons are even said to be able to control the weather.
Divination Dragon
The divination dragon is the opposite of the lightning elemental for the above mentioned reason. Divination dragons are special due to the fact that they can see the past, present, and future. Not to mention they can also receive visions of prophecies from the gods. Only prophets can be divination dragons.
Trickster Dragon
Like it's name suggests, the trickster dragon is a wild card, thus it has no opposite. It almost has a power to that of dark dragons. Trickster dragons can create illusions do anything from creating a distracting symbol or image, to making themself look like somebody or something else.
Humanoid Forms
Human
The human is the most common and abundant humanoid form, meaning the majority of Dragonborn have them. Transforming into a human is a the most well-known trait of theirs. They use it for everything from picking up objects, fitting into small spaces, to disguising themselves when real humans get past the Wall of Flames.
Walker
Undead dragons, as previously mentioned, are dead so they are born with one of two options; they either do not have a humanoid form at all, or their humanoid form is a Walker. A Walker is a skeletal zombie like creature, fitting to the Undead dragon's departed nature.
Semi
Semis are Dragonborn with the inability to transform into their human form. Instead, they can only turn halfway, giving them an anthropomorphic dragon like appearance. They are, by far, the minority humanoid form, only a few Dragonborn are born a Semi.
Ranks
The Monarch
The monarch is the ruler over the DragonBorn kingdom, and like their name suggests, serves in a monarchy, fitting to their setting of the Middle Age Europe. The monarch can be a king or a queen depending on the gender, and there can be one to two monarchs ruling at a time, two usually being if the monarch has a spouse ruling along side them. The monarch’s job is to keep the kingdom in order. Their many jobs include organizing meetings, assigning ranks, giving Dragonborn tasks for what they need to do each day, solve problems, and handle relations to other kingdoms.
Advisor
The advisor is the monarch’s second in command. Their main job is, like their status says, to help advise the monarch, or monarchs, on decisions. However, the advisor also has many other duties to attend to. Firstly, if the monarchs are unable to rule for the day, the advisor takes over for them. Despite this, if the monarch is unable to rule permanently, then their children will take over. If they do not have any children, then the advisor will become the new monarch. Secondly, the advisor works as a sort of judge, ruling over court cases and deciding the punishments for DragonBorn who disobey the rules. Thirdly, they can even serve as a commander for the knights, giving orders and battle strategies.
Prophets
Prophets are the connectors between realms. They predict the past, present, and future, and can communicate with the spirit world. They use their powers to alert dangerous upcoming events and tell of important prophecies foretold by the gods. Prophets spend their time in Castle DragonBorn’s highest tower, either trying to get in contact with the spirit realm, or studying and writing about the gods. Only Divination dragons can be prophets.
Apothecary
The Apothecary is the head of the healers. They are usually a healer who was so advanced at their craft, that they were chosen to become the lead healer. The Apothecary relays information onto normal healers about what injury or illness they’re dealing with and how to treat it. The apothecary is also the one to usually tackle the harder medical practices that normal healers might not be able to do. They can even invent their own medicines.
Healers
Healers’ jobs are to heal the sick and injured, as the medical staff of the kingdom. Healers are a group of people led by the head healer, the Apothecary. Healers do anything from using herbs to even surgeries. If a job is too advanced medically, the Apothecary does it instead of the healers. However, healers can still help out by handing the Apothecary tools and finding important spices to be used for the operation.
Knights
Knights, (also called by Warriors or Hunters), have three main jobs. The first is to protect the Monarch and their kingdom at all costs. They accomplish this by guarding the monarch at important press conferences, or guarding rooms with precious valuables. Their second task is fighting in wars. Sometimes the DragonBorn can get in a little tiff with other nations, resulting in large scale battles. Wanting to protect their kingdom, friends, and families, knights will fight in these battles with their combative knowledge and battle tactics. Don’t be fooled, while knights need to know how to fight back, they also need to be highly intelligent, thinking of plans and careful maneuvers. Their third job is a bit of a strange one. Since they are so strong and witty, knights are tasked with hunting meat as food, hence why they are given the nickname “hunters”. Knights travel to the Hunting Fields and hunt as much food as they can, before transferring them to the farmers.
Farmers
Farmers are the chefs of the DragonBorn community. While knights hunt the meat, farmers grow the plants. Due to the below average climate, it can be hard to cultivate crops, so farmers have resorted to growing more resistant crops such as lettuce, parsnips, spinach, and brushentails, a crop that can serve as a substitute to wheat, flour, and even sugar. Afterwards, they reap ready plants and gather them, along with the meat from the knights and head to the kitchen. This is where they go from farmers to chefs. Farmers combine all of the ingredients together, cook them, and serve them to the rest of the colony, as they kingdom’s cooks.
Elders
Elders are the old and retired members of the kingdom. To be considered an elder, you must be 7,000 years or older. Since they are superannuated, they spend most of their time telling tales and stories to hatchlings, and sometimes even older members of the group.
Fledglings
Fledglings are the adolescents of the Dragonborn kingdom. Fledglings range from the age of 12 to 19. Transitioning from hatchling to fledgling is important to Dragonborn culture for two main reasons. The first being that Dragonborn first exhibit the ability to change into human shape at the age of 12. For the second reason, when they turn 12, they enter the Ceremony. The Ceremony is where the newly turned fledgling tells the monarch(s) what rank they would like to pursue in front of the rest of the kingdom. The monarch then proceeds to assign a mentor for the fledgling to train and learn from as a squire. There are four types of squires; prophet squires, healer squires, Knight squires, and farmer squires. Fledglings are still taught typical educational information like arithmetic, science, and history, but instead of being taught by their parents, they are taught by their mentors, along with how to properly do the tasks required for the ranks they want to have.
Hatchlings
Hatchlings are the youngsters of the clan. They range in age from newborn to 11 years old. Hatchlings are different from other Dragonborn since they are young and cannot transform into a different form yet, so they must be taken care of extra cautiously. Before they become fledglings who are taught by a mentor, hatchlings are taught academic skills by their parents.
Chores
Chores are tasks that need to be temporarily taken care of, so anyone in the kingdom can fulfill them as it doesn’t need a rank of its own. Chores can range from looking out for intruders in the castle watchtowers to babysitting a hatchling whose parents are too busy with their own jobs to care for them at the moment.
Territory
Castle Dragonborn
Created from a recently abandoned human castle, Castle Dragonborn is the castle the Dragonborn fled to so they could hide from humans, and remain there to this very day. The castle itself is suspended on a small hill above the Hunting Fields. The castle is large and spacious, so much so that every member of the Dragonborn lives in it, from monarchs to farmers, elders to hatchlings.
Hunting Fields
The Hunting Fields is a large snowy plain surrounding Castle Dragonborn. It is the area that separates the castle from the Wall of Flames. Like it’s name suggests, the Hunting Fields is where Dragonborn knights go to hunt for food. While they have been so far successful in their hunts, food is scarce due to the low temperature and snowy climate.
Wall of Flames
The Wall of Flames is a wall made of fire that surrounds the Dragonborn territory. It is the border between the Hunting Fields and the large pine forest that leads to the human villages. It is said when the Dragonborn fled to the north, one fire Dragonborn created the Wall of Flames just in case if the humans found their land, so they can never get to the castle, protecting their draconic kind.

Rules
Code of the Dragonborn
- The bond between mentor and squire shall not be broken in any way until the squire graduates.
- Thou shalt not place harm upon any fellow Dragonborn.
- If you are found guilty of a crime, you must pay whatever punishment necessary.
- Hatchlings must be taken care of with supreme caution.
- Do not go past the Wall of Flames, for it is dangerous beyond our walls.
- Never approach a human, they will not hesitate to kill you.
- If you sign up as a knight, it is your duty to protect this kingdom.
- All Dragonborn are created equal.
- The Dragonborn are your family, treat them like such.
OOC Rules
- Nothing too inappropriate
- No fighting OOC, you can IC
- You can’t have a relationship with or kill someone else’s character unless it’s okay with the character’s owner.
- No godmodding, Mary Sues, or other OP characters
- Undead Dragonborn are the only dragons that can have either no form or a Walker form. No exceptions.
- You can have a semi character, but I don’t want like 50 semis. Remember, semis are a rare minority.
- Dragonborn who are children of the Monarchs (aka heirs to the throne) still have a normal rank like every other Dragonborn. They don’t have special ranks just because they’re royal. However, when their parents die, they will switch from their old rank to being the new monarch and taking their parents’ place.
- Despite the aforementioned rule, heir to the throne characters must have “prince” or “princess” before their name in the form.
- This thread will be largely character driven, meaning the plot will progress through the characters’ actions.
- No offense, but please, no “what if the Dragonborn went to the human world” or “what if a human stumbles upon the Dragonborn kingdom” plots. I don’t want to introduce humans at the beginning of the thread as the main plot.
- This is a semi-advanced to advanced thread, meaning at least one detailed paragraph per character.
- No one-liners please, unless if you really are unable to respond.
- For the human forms, please try to find a picture of someone in medieval attire. If you REALLY can’t find an image you can use a picture of a modern human, but remember, they will not be dressed like that because this thread takes place in the Middle Ages Europe.
- Just to avoid any extra confusion; Dragonborn aren’t dragon Shifters, they aren’t humans that can turn into dragons. They are dragons that can shapeshift into human form.
- LGBTQ Welcome
- Despite this taking place in medieval Europe, any gender of Dragonborn can be any rank.
- If you’re confused on the forms, you can look at my form for an example
- Write “I accept the Code of the Dragonborn and shall not break it!” in the Other section if you’ve read ALL of the rules. (IC and OOC rules both. :P)

In her true form, she has webbed feet, gills, and fins, indicative of her water dragon nature.
Personality: Queen Margravine isn’t your average queen for this time period. She is cunning, manipulative, witty, calm, collective, and battle ready, mostly due to her years in the war. She acts aloof, cold, dismissive, and can sometimes say something snappy when she’s annoyed with someone. However, deep down she cares about her kingdom, and will do anything to keep them safe, even if she appears uncaring sometimes. Queen Margravine has a soft spot for hatchlings, reading, swimming, flying, and dragons who are determined and have dreams. She has a strong distaste for humans since the war, and has dedicated some of the Code of the Dragonborn to get her people away from the humans as quick as possible. Not to mention she also dislikes spiders, traitors, tight spaces, and the feeling of being caged away. Queen Margravine is mostly content as to where she is, although, a part of her longs for her people to someday leave the icy north and return to the rest of the realm. All she wants is the best for her people, and fears that she will let them down.
History: When she was just a fledgling, Margravine Aelina was drafted into The War. Against all odds, she managed to survive as she and the other Dragonborn fled to the north. There she was promoted to warrior, where she fought valiantly. Over time, she worked her way up the ranks to Advisor, until one day when the royal lineage sadly died out, Margravine took the throne and was their queen ever since.
Weapons: Queen Margravine doesn’t normally use weapons since she is the queen and prefers peaceful negotiations. However, she does have a longsword by her side just in case, along with her rusty old dagger she used as a teen in the war.
Skills: Margravine is excellent at not only flying, but also swimming. She has experience in battle and is highly trained in combat, but she prefers using her intellectual side, whether it be for thinking up clever solutions or persuading others of her side of the story in meetings.
Abilities: Margravine has hydrokinesis, or the ability to manipulate water. She can summon it whenever she wants and can create powerful and dangerous blasts with it. She also has the ability to breathe under water and is a relatively fast swimmer.

Personality: Lilias is a spunky young dragon. She is an enthusiastic, energetic, wide eyed dreamer who tries to see the good in everyone. She is an optimist and tries to cheer others up with her humor and pranks, but she can sometimes get annoying. Lilias is naïve and a little clumsy, but she does feel REALLY guilty if she found out she did something. She loves animals, sweets, hatchlings, pranks, flying around, and seeing others happy. She hates seeing fellow Dragonborn upset and fears what would happen if she made someone upset. Lilias may also hate thunder, swimming, and arguing, but all she wants is to make her kingdom proud.
Weapons: Lilias used her trusty broadsword that she enchanted with her trickster magic in battle.
Skills: Lilias, like her title suggests, is one of, if not the fastest Dragonborn. What she lacks in physical strength she makes up for in speed, agility, and stealth. She is an excellent flier and is overall great for hunting.
