Now I am afraid, but it's okay (open, kitting)

    //The third one will be stillborn, after Dust attacked her. Never actually done this before.

    Silvermist had known having kits was quite painful, but the warnings really did the real thing no justice.

    She had woken up to what felt like her kits kicking quite hard, and proceeded to try to go back to sleep, before it began to turn painful. Soon it felt like her insides were being ripped up, and she screeched, claws digging into her nest. "Anybody! A little help here would be lovely!" She yowled, muttering curses no kit or even apprentice should hear. Not about the kits, of course. Just the pain. The contractions left Silvermist in pure agony, yet she tried to drag herself towards the entrance of the nursery, calling again.

    Having been on her way to see Darcy, a shiver of panic races up her spine at the desperate swearing a familiar voice lets out. "Silvermist? Whats wrong?" She asks, racing forwards. The pained yowling makes sense as she does."Oh. OH! The kits! Dusksparks!"

    //i really was hoping the thread in skyclan moved a bit faster so there could be addercloud helping but :/

    //BUMBLEFOOT I MEANT B U M B L E FOOT

    Silvermist was kitting. Silvermist was kitting and Dusksparks had no idea what to do. It was times like this that, while he was grateful to gain knowledge from past medicine cats of Starclan, he almost wished he had an actual mentor. While he loved his cousin dearly, she knew even less than he did - Starclan didn't come to teach her in the night. Maybe they knew she was not going to last. (That made something twist inside him just thinking about it - how little faith Starclan had in his cousin staying loyal to the clan. Or maybe they say the future and knew it was pointless training one that was only going to be there a week at the very most.)

    But no matter about that, kitting was something he had no experience about outside of the one time he was the one kitting. He felt like how he was at the beginning, suddenly forced into the medicine cat position by forces out of his control, finding himself with a role that he had no clue how to do. Back then, hunting and even fighting somewhat came as easily as breathing, the herbs as foreign and unnatural as swimming underwater. Now the herbs came easily as well, but kitting was still something unknown and felt unnatural to be here, viewed on as the ultimate authority and wisdom when anyone who had a litter at some point in time knew just as much as he did.

    "Uh..." He blanked, trying to think of what to do. Well, she was in pain, and he remembered how exhausting it was to kit. Ragwort keeps the strength up and fights against fatigue, so he would give her some if it looks like she needs it. Fennel is for aching hips, so maybe afterwards? All he remembered was biting down on a stick, which might be all he can give to her right now. Picking up all his things, he then went to go to the nursery. "Give me a second." He said, before half-limping half-running across camp. "Alright Silvermist, I need you to bite down hard on the stick. The more it hurts the harder you bite, okay?" He said, passing the stick to her. Hopefully she wouldn't have 8 kits and be up most of the night like he was. Seeing Lilystar out of the corner of his eye, he was relieved, as she had been there during his kitting and hopefully remembered what to do. He got close enough to the other so that he could privately whisper without the queen hearing. "Hey Lilystar, do you remember what Bumblefoot told you about what to do with the kits once they're born? Or really anything he said at all?" He said, voice as low as he could make it.

    Dusksparks limps back with a stick and is at her side in a moment. His murmured question makes her tense. "How could I forget?" She says back keeping her voice low. "If you dont know something just bullsh*t it, she needs to be as unstressed as possible."

    Stepping back in her memories to Dusksparks kitting, Lilystar moves forwards. "Silvermist lying down would be best. Bite down on that stick. The contractions will get closer together and a-a bit mo-ore painful. Dusksparks will get the kits settled once they come out by nipping their sacs. Just focus on pushing." She says, voice an exact.copy of Bumblefoot all those moons ago.

  • Silvermist grabbed the stick, and bit down on it just as another contraction ripped through her body. Hearing what Dusksparks said, she would have said something, but the stick in her mouth prevented her, and she really didn't want to let go, or she might have said some things that just couldn't be forgiven. Pushing, she felt a bit of the pain relieve for a moment, and looked down, seeing a bundle. "Is that....?" Silvermist mumbled the question around the stick, a bit amazed.

    "Your first kit." Lilystar purrs, wasting no time nipping the sac and licking warmth into the new Darkclanner. She gently nudges the new life in her paws to keep it warm whilst Silver has the rest of her litter. "You're doing great!"

  • Silvermist would've named them right then and there, but the contractions began again, and she clamped down on the stick, almost splintering it. It was enduring a lot of abuse. Just keep pushing, just keep pushing.

    //man, it's a good thing lily can think like bumble so well, huh? it's almost like they share the same mind, huh?

    He really should just hand the reigns over to Lilystar, she was doing a lot better than he ever could. Of course, she was also in a state of mind back then to remember what to do. Dusksparks really just laid there and tried to not pass out. Still, he listened to her words and her actions, and committed it to memory. Once another kit came out he would do the same. "Hey, you're doing great Silvermist. One down, just a couple more to go. If you get tired let me know I have something for you to give you extra energy." He said, as calmingly and smooth as he could.

    // pFTT TELL NO ONE

    The unnamed kit between her paws mewls and wriggles, so Lilystar makes sure to keep it warm between her paws without stepping on them. Dusksparks seems to have control so she makes sure to keep the kit happy while he works.

  • The next one came quite quickly, and there was another bundle. At this point, the pain was all blurred together, and she couldn't tell if the bundle was moving or not. Letting go of the stick, she panted, pretty tired. "How.... many more?" She managed.

    After the contractions got closer Lily started to move her paw round Silvermists belly to help prompt the kits along. "Not many more, I dont think." She says with confidence she doesnt feel. Theres no way to know if this kit will be her last or if there are four more to come, but kitting in winter was ... dangerous. Not many survived.

    She hopes thats not the case here.

  • //Last kit. But she's going to be so upset.

    Silvermist couldn't take much more, and when the third kit entered the world, her vision was swimming, and her bite on the stick was hard enough to splinter it. Gradually, the contractions began to subside, and the pain with it. Finally, she looked over to see her kits, but noticed the last bundle wasn't moving. "What's wrong with the last one?" Silvermist mewed, panic lacing her voice, even though exhaustion occupied most of it. Don't be dead, don't be dead.

    Her own heart thunders. When Mercypaw had been born they had almost believed her to be a still born. Part of her expected this but it was still difficult to see. Lilystar nudges the other two kits towards Silvermists' belly. "Its not alive." Maybe it sounds softer than 'its dead'

  • —— tags What awful ruckus was waking the apprentice from her sleep this time? Could she not get even an hour of sleep? Panthercrawl’s training was exhausting her, and she was still a little tender from the rogue attack. When she crawled out of the apprentices’ den, she saw a group gathered at the nursery and raced over just in time to see Silvermist give birth to her final kit - stillborn from what Lilystar was saying. Her eyes widened in horror. I’m never having kits, she thought to herself and winced at the bloody sight. While most found the new life beautiful, Hollypaw found it disturbing, gross, and painful. She could never endure such a thing!

  • Silvermist curled around her two kits, the tom with the black spotted pelt, and the she-kit with the markings somewhat like her own, thinking hard. The black tom looked nothing like his father, but would probably grow a big as he did. "Tallkit for the tom." The she-kit reminded her of the willows that grew down the mountain, the ones she loved to climb. "Willowkit for the she-kit."

    "Those are lovely names." Lilystar purrs, heart spluttering like a dying motor though outwardly she is calm as can be. Would Darcy miscarriage as well? Would there be still-borns? Would Silvermist kits have enough food during the winter to get to apprenticeship? Worries race through her head and she tries to focus on the kittens before them.

    She nudges a wet piece of moss towards Silvermist. "Here, drink up." She says softly, looking at the kits. There was a black pelted tom and a silver tabby, a replica nearly piece by piece of Silvermist herself. How would they grow? What would they be like in the future?
