Joyce Byers awoke disoriented, the world around her blurred and spinning. Her eye lids were heavy and her body felt, almost broken. Like she didn't belong in it. It was an odd sensation indefinitely, but everyone probably had this feeling at least once in thier life. The human body was odd that way. We all have our stranger days.
When her mind actually began to work and turn, she became confused. The noises around her weren't the normal noises of her bedroom. Instead of the creaks of wood, or the quiet talking of her sons in the kitchen, she heard leaves rustling overhead and the music of song birds. Had she somehow fallen asleep outside in the porch swing? She didn't remember going outside the night before, but that was the only explanation to her current predicament.
Her surrounds only seemed to push that scenario away. As her chocolate brown eyes focused, she came face to face with with yellowing grass and fallen leaves. The trees around her were definitely not the strong oaks or pines that surrounds her house, and the woods looked rather dense. These weren't the woods she had lived around. And she certainly wasn't laying on her porch swing. "What?" her voice choked out, hourse from the lack of use. She wasn't home, but at least she wasn't stuck in the Upside Down.
As she tried to lift herself from the cold ground, she found her body would not, for whatever reason, cooperate with her. It was like parts of it couldn't move the same way anymore. Other parts seemed to move in ways they couldn't ever move before. Her teeth felt larger and sharper and more spaced out, and ears kept folding and twitching, and was that a tail? How could something so wrong feel so right?! She didn't know what to think. What is wrong with me? Turning her head to see what could have possibly happened, she only managed to freeze. She blinked once. Then twice. And then let out a scream.
Instead of her usually human body, she found brown and black body of a tiger. Her jacket had been wrapped around it's upper half, but the unmistakable striped paws and lower half protruding from it were not her own. She quickly tried scrambled always from it, only to watch in horror as it followed her actions. She, in her effort, slammed into one of the trees surrounding her. Her mind was reeling and her heart was pounding a mile a minute.
Now, Joyce had seen many strange things in her life. Demigorgons, the Upside Down, Will talking through the lights. Those were all pretty strange things. But a completely shapeshift? That was one of the strangest things yet. Especially to her own body.
At the thought of her son, Joyce suddenly shook out of her shocked state. Will. Was he ok? Was he here? Was he hurt? Did he change, just like her? And what about Jonathan? Was he ok? Was he with Will? Was he changed? We're they close? Or were they worrying over her? Did they think she was now lost to the Upside Down?
"Will?" she became calling," Jonathan?" She tried to walk, her first steps shaky and unorganized. "Will? Will, it's mom! I'm here! Jonathan? Are you here?"
