• Connor Necter

Connor left the classroom as soon as the bell rang, picking up his backpack and tossing it over his shoulder.

Everyone chattered away while Connor made his way to the lunch room with a large group of students rushing past to get the first of the spots in the line.

That's where the warmest food was at least. Connor didn't get any food though, he just sat where he usually sat. His only friend would be here soon, at least the girl who tolerated him the most out of everyone. He told her things that he wouldn't tell anyone else because she was all he could trust.

Nobody else, who was included in his life, had any kind of trust. His dad was an asshole, a raging alcoholic that would leave bruises and bumps on his face.

Connor didn't want any attention so he'd always use makeup to cover it up.

His mom was just not there, not that she was dead or anything, she was perfectly fine. She just doesn't have to money to visit or get a lawyer for a case.

She tried to connect with Connor but he felt like he couldn't get close to anyone or else it would just end in heartbreak.

Other family were dead or simply didn't want anything to do with his dad.

So, Connor lived his life in absolute fucking misery, being beat and occasionally strangled by his father nearly every night.

But, his father was nothing compared to what happened inside his head, he couldn't be happy. It was nearly impossible.

Of course there were little moments where he would feel joy but the constant reminders that pained his face would bring him back.

An endless pit, void of any happiness. He felt like...he didn't deserve anything...

Death seemed like the only resolution at this point. It was scary to Connor but the only way to kill off his diseased head, was to just let go.

Only then could he be happy. Wherever he was after death.

★ ★ ★ Danger pushed her way through the hallway, trying to keep herself from crying. She refused to let anyone see her like this. Her ex-boyfriend still had such a grip on her and always pushed her around. All because she broke up with him to focus on her studies because he was a bad influence on her and her life. She couldn't afford college so she needed a scholarship and he wasn't helping her at all. So, she had decided to leave him about a month ago. And he's still been a real sh-thead to her.

The blonde girl pushed through the crowd and sighed as she had finally ended up in the cafeteria. She saw Colton, smiling softly. He seemed to be her only true friend in this place and she was so thankful to have him in her life. She walked over to him, setting her bag and books down with a loud thud. She placed her forehead on the cool table, trying to calm herself down. She kept trying to convince herself not to let him get to her but it wasn't working. He had been verbally abusive when they were dating and she just hopes that it doesn't turn physical. Danger raised her head, her blue-green eyes meeting his gaze. She smiled brightly at her friend and sat up a bit, running her hair through her silky blonde hair.

"I'm sorry, Braxton has been getting to me alot lately." Danger laughed nervously, shaking her head. She looked at her friend, seeing that he seemed a bit off. She frowned deeply in confusion. She gently reached forward, placing her hand on his. Her eyes met his and her eyes sparkled with worry and love for her friend. "Colton, are you okay? You know that you can talk to me about anything. Is it your dad again?" The sweet girl asked gently.

"But you'll always be my hero, even though you've lost your mind."

  • large.jpg

Connor smiled warmly as she approached, Danger was something out of a magazine. That is one of the main reasons why he knew he couldn't ever date anyone as beautiful as her, he was ugly. Another reason to just cease to exist on his list.

He groaned, "If I was brave enough I would punch that sucker right in the balls..." he made a motion with his fist, punching upwards.

He hated Braxton, it was the most Connor had ever hated anyone. He wasn't a naturally violent person but he would enjoy giving a good kick to the balls for Braxton. Of course, if he was brave enough.

The cafeteria chattered on, his thoughts wandering once again.

Then, he remembered the pills. The ones in his father's bathroom cabinet and every time he passed that door, they seemed to pull at him.

Connor had only just found the pills the day before but had plenty of time to plan this out because of his lack of sleep.

"I'm fine, just tired, you know how it is for me." The brunette rubbed the dark circles under his eyes.

His dad on the other hand, "He's still hurting me..."

Connor rubbed a little bit of makeup off his jawline so the bruise would show through.

Although it was slightly transparent, the black and blue was visible.

★ ★ ★ The petite girl jumped up, sitting down beside him as she examined the bruises. "That monster... I don't understand why he does this to you... You're the sweetest guy I've ever met." She said softly as she looked into his eyes. She exhaled brushing the hair out of his face. "You can stay a few days with me. My mom is going out of town for a week or two. She won't even notice that you'd been there." Danger said sweetly, her kind eyes making her dazzling smile that much brighter. She watched her dear friend, trying to read him and figure out what was on his mind because she desperately wanted to know.

"But you'll always be my hero, even though you've lost your mind."

  • large.jpg

He ignored the comment of his father being a monster, they both knew it to be true but he disagreed with the statement of him being the sweetest guy. He felt like all he did was burden Danger, no matter what he did.

Connor stuttered, "I-I have to take care of some errands tonight, sorry..." his hands nervously rubbed against each other.

He felt bad for lying but this was his only solution, he hated everything he stood for and now had a chance to take that pain away.

The taller boy smiled, fake, he was good at it though.

The last bell rang, Connor took moments to stare at the beautiful fall trees. The landscape towards his home was bathed in oranges and yellows, nothing was a stunning as that. Especially...for his last day. He swallowed nervously, picking off little pieces of a leaf in his hand.

What would death be like? Would it be welcoming? Or just a nightmare?

Connor shook away the thoughts, they were scaring him. He didn't want to be scared in the final moments.

Finally, he arrived home. His dad's car wasn't in the driveway, good, his plan was in motion.

He turned on some music, while running a warm bath.

He stared at the running water like it was his last resort for life.

Connor grabbed the pills and went back down.

He decided to write his note now and hope that it didn't sound cheesy.

    "Hi, whoever finds this...

I am not worth anything to anyone, so I am doing something very selfish as some would say.

I live my life in constant pain, fear, and sadness. Yeah, boohoo for me.

I have no other way of saying goodbye. I love my mom but dad, you should've tried a little harder.

Hunter, somehow, if you get this. Just know, I love you...so much.

Not much for a confession especially since I'm dead.

Thanks to those of you who cared to some capacity."

Connor closed the door, not locking it.

    What was the point anyways?

  • DANGER PHOENIX TERRELL

★ ★ ★ Danger got out of school and frowned, not seeing Connor in their usual meeting spot. She grabbed her bike and rode as fast as she could to his house, her legs pulsating and cramping by the time she got to his house. She tossed her bike down, not really caring what happened to her. She turned her head, not seeing his dad's car in the driveway. She blinked, frowning deeply. She slowly stepped forward, pushing the front door open. Luckily, it was silent. She looked around, not seeing any signs of her only friend. She set her bag down on the couch and exhaled, knowing she had to find Connor. Something had been wrong with him at lunch and she wasn't going to leave until she knew he was okay.

The petite girl approached the bathroom door since she heard running water a moment before. She inhaled, preparing herself for anything. She opened the door, seeing Connor there. There was a note, pills, and a bathtub filled with water. Her eyes instantly swelled up with tears, her gaze meeting Connor's. "Connor?" She spoke, her voice small and barely above a whisper. She was so heartbroken seeing all of this, it took her breathe away. Her heart began to actually hurt and she whimpered, tears streaming down her cheeks. It was her first genuine heartbreak and some of her heart strings had broken.

"But you'll always be my hero, even though you've lost your mind."

  • original.jpg

Connor jerked his head towards the door where Hunter stood, his hand holding the bottle of pills. His expression turned into horror as he slumped to the ground in defeat. The pills spilled onto the floor near his knees, rattling quietly as they rolled away. "I-I'm sorry..." he burst out crying, holding his head in his hands. The clarity of the situation hit him like a brick, he was choosing an option that would scar Hunter. Of course, he didn't want that, he loved her with all his heart. Maybe if he tried a little harder, he'd be able to get closer to her.

It didn't matter right now, she was right there in front of him.

He had never cried in front of anyone...that sudden realization came to mind. That's the depth of his trust problem, he couldn't even cry not in front of his dad not his mom. It made him feel weak, but there was no turning back now.

The teen slid down leaning him against the cupboard, still silently sobbing. He didn't dare to look her in the face, he was ashamed of himself, how could he leave someone alone? Especially with all she's going through...

He ran his hands through his hair, wiping away the falling tears. The note still laying on the counter, bright red text popping from the white surface.

★ ★ ★ Danger's tears streamed down her face as she watched him slump down to the floor. She moved quickly, crawling over to him and pulling him into her arms so he could cry. She silently sobbed, squeezing her eyes shut as she ran her hands through his hair. "It-it's okay... It's okay, shhh. I've got you. I've always got you." Her sweet voice whispered as she held her friend. She couldn't imagine what her life would be like without him in it. She needed him just as much as he needed her. She exhaled shakily and tried to calm her racing heart. She still felt the pain in her chest but she ignored it, knowing that Connor was more important at the moment. She looked down at him, seeing the pills scattered all over the floor. "You're staying with me for a little while, okay?" She said softly, her eyes meeting his as her breathing was shaky.

"But you'll always be my hero, even though you've lost your mind."

Connor couldn't help but hug her back, squeezing her gently. It felt warm and nice, like you would if you were inside while it rained and reading a good book. He drew a shaky breath, "O-Okay..." he didn't mind staying with her. He felt better in her arms, especially while he stared back into her eyes.

Everything felt like a dream, slow, emotional.

"Can...Can you ever forgive me?" he croaked softly.

    (sorry for the short post)

  • DANGER PHOENIX TERRELL

★ ★ ★ "Of course I forgive you, Connor. I'm just so glad I caught you before you did it." Danger whispered softly and continued to hold him, gently squeezing him. She squeezed her eyes shut, never wanting to lose him. She didn't think she could handle it if she did. He meant so much to her and he didn't even know. She looked back down at him and smiled softly as she brushed the hair out of his face. "Come on, let's pack up some stuff. We can hang out at my house and watch movies or play board games, whatever you want to do, okay?" She said sweetly, her aura warm and welcoming. She was always such a loving person and whoever was mean to such a kind and honest soul was a fool.

"But you'll always be my hero, even though you've lost your mind."

  • "Thanks...for everything, honestly." he said softly, pulling himself up. He was still grasping her hands, reluctant to let go but he did anyways. His brown eyes flickered to the floor then back to Danger, "Um...how about we just stay here?"

He didn't feel like going anywhere, it felt weird to immediantly go out after something so...drastic. He drained the bathtub and put the pills away.

Connor could feel Danger's eyes following him, it wasn't uncomfortable thankfully. The brown-haired boy motioned for her to follow him, entering his room at the end of the hallway.

He sat on his bed, legs crossed and staring up at Danger.

"So...what do you want to do?"

  • DANGER PHOENIX TERRELL

★ ★ ★ The girl looked up at her friend with a slight frown, worry on her face. "Won't your dad get mad about me being here? I'd feel better if we went to my house. It'd be just us and we could do whatever. Watch stupid and cheesy movies or listen to music, I don't know. Danger murmured with a shrug, her bright eyes looking up at him. Danger stood as he did, brushing herself off. She exhaled and followed her, glancing behind her at the front door. She really didn't want his dad to come home anytime. Danger followed him to his bedroom and she looked around curiously, her face seeming to glow with warmth and pureness. Danger's head turned to Connor as he asked what she wanted to do. Danger blinked, thinking for a moment. "Do you want to stay here? Cause I have a special place that I like to go to. Danger said with a bright smile, obviously happy to be able to share her happy place with someone she trusted.

"But you'll always be my hero, even though you've lost your mind."

  • Connor nodded, agreeing. Although it would be nice to just relax at her house, he was curious about the 'special place' she hadn't ever mentioned it to him before. "Didn't think about that...what's that special place you were talking about?" He knew how violent his dad would get if he saw a girl over, probably would kill him at that point. There's no counting the amount of bruises on his body after a severely drunk night. After she smiled, he couldn't help but grin his gaze towards the ground of his room. "Well...what are we waiting for?" newfound happiness spread through his tired body, renewing his mood.

  • DANGER PHOENIX TERRELL

★ ★ ★ Danger smiled widely, an excited squeal escaping her lips. She felt warm and happy now that she was finally able to show someone her happy place. "We should pack a few things because we can stay the night out there, to be honest. The sweet girl giggled softly, her warm gaze meeting his eyes. She was so pure and strong hearted, its hard to believe that a girl like her still existed in this cold, cold world. "Um, water bottles, blankets, pillows maybe, flashlights, food-" Danger said excitedly as she pulled her school bag off of her back, setting it on the bag. She had plenty of room for the things they needed. Her eyes met his as she sat on the edge of the bed. Her warm smile dazzled everyone who ever came in contact with her. Danger was the type of girl that would melt, even the coldest of hearts. "We can go to my place for things like that and then go out there. She said happily.

"But you'll always be my hero, even though you've lost your mind."

  • Connor felt his chest flourish with a strong feeling to just laugh at how adorable she was, but he quickly got to work shoving some clothes in his black backpack. Then grabbed his phone and speaker along with the chargers, just in case.

Suddenly the door burst open with a loud crash that rumbled the entire house, "CONNOR!" a loud voice roared. Connor slung the bag over his shoulder and pulled open his window, the house was only two floors, a basement and the main floor so getting out wouldn't be a problem.

Connor pushed the screen out of the way, hearing his father's footsteps stomp around looking for him in a drunken rage was terrifying but he grabbed Danger's hand first and let her through first.

The door banged open, leaving a hole in the wall. The teen launched himself out the window, hitting the ground, hard. His foot sprained slightly but he kept going grabbing Danger's hand once again and pulling her up to her feet.

"Let's go!" Connor made a mad dash for the neighbor's yard, jumping over the chain link fence then made sure that the girl was still behind him.

His father roared from the window, banging on the wooden stilt. Making no effort to come after them.

  • DANGER PHOENIX TERRELL

★ ★ ★ Danger jumped as she heard his father's booming voice. Her heart began to race wildly and she whimpered, rushing over to Connor as he began to push the screen out of the window so the two of them could make their escape. Danger felt him grab her hand and she quickly jumped down with a loud grunt. She moved her body quickly to go into a roll so that she wouldn't hurt herself. Danger panted softly, looking up with wide eyes as Connor threw himself out of his own window. She winced as she heard the loud thud and she couldn't comprehend everything because it was happening so fast. Then, Connor grabbed her up and she let out a yelp. She sprinted after Connor, squeaking as she propelled herself over the chain link fence. Her heart raced and so did her mind. She wasn't sure what to do, she was just so scared. The girl kept running for what seemed like forever before she ran out of breath, wheezing now as she held her sides. She felt her asthma act up as she scrambled to grab her inhaler from her bag. She had never told anyone that she had asthma and was embarrassed that this was the way that Connor had to find out.

Not finding her inhaler, she began to panic as her breaths became shallow and short. It wasn't in her bag. It must've fallen out when they were running. "My...Inhaler... I... Think... I... Dropped... It." The petite girl gasped as she fell to the ground, her head beginning to hurt. She felt an asthma attack coming on and she hadn't had one in so long, she was afraid of what might happen to her if she had one. She had almost died a few times as a child, her asthma was very severe.

"But you'll always be my hero, even though you've lost your mind."

  • "F-fuck..." he glanced at the ground near the window, where a red and white object stood out in the green grass, "I'll get it."

Connor wasted no time with being afraid despite his heart practically pounding out of his chest. His father watched him run over with a sick grin, attempting to clamber over the window with his drunken body was almost amusing. Unfortunatly, there was no time to marvel at the stupidity of a drunk man, he had to get out and fast.

Reaching the inhaler he grabbed it, then slipped on the grass while attempting to make a break for it. His father reached out quickly, grabbing ahold of his shoe. Connor gasped and pulled off the shoe, not caring a bit. The teen darted back to the fence, leaping over and handing Danger the inhaler. Watching her gasp for a breath was horrendous, he picked her up in his arms and carried her further away. Connor could hear her wheezing lungs and flinched internally every time. Setting her down he stared into her eyes, "You okay?"

  • DANGER PHOENIX TERRELL

★ ★ ★ Danger grabbed the inhaler quickly, her heart racing as her breathing began to become uncontrollable. She inhaled a few times, her light body feeling safe in Connor's arms as he carried her. She finally got control of her breathing a few minutes later and she leaned her head against his chest, gripping his shirt tightly in her soft hand. She had been so afraid of what would've happened if he had just been a few more seconds late. The petite girl's heart calmed as she rested in his arms for a few more moments. She blinked slowly, her sparkling eyes meeting his as she gave him a soft smile. "I'm fine now, thanks to you. A few more seconds and... I don't even know what would've happened. " The girl spoke softly and remained in his arms, wanting to make sure that her body was okay and stable before getting back up. "I'm sorry I never told you about my asthma, Connor. It's just a little embarrassing to me, if I'm being honest. I didn't want to seem weak to you." She murmured as she blinked.

"But you'll always be my hero, even though you've lost your mind."
