    Karolina Edwards || Female || 21

    Karolina took the shirt from Lin graciously and slipped it on. "I.. I was falling. My trapeze broke." She explained, shuddering at the memory. She still felt the lingering anxiety from the experience. She motioned towards the nearest building "We should head inside before we freeze to death." She glanced around seeing more people appearing. In the distance there was a man in a hospital gown. "Is.. Is this Hell? Are we dead?" She paled, She was dead, she had to be.

    She went up to the nearest door and entered to house, It was an apartment building. She entered the first apartment and sighed in relief as the heat hit her. She went to smile but it faltered as the smell of the room hit her, she gagged and left the room again. She vomited onto the carpet in the hall.

    The room was a normal room, there was food sitting out that had rotted long ago. Maggots were on every surface and flies buzzed around.

    Karolina wiped her mouth on the back of her hand and left the building, gulping the fresh air and wincing as the cold found her skin once more.

  • Kota was both relieved and apprehensive about the pair that he'd run into. He noted that one, a man, was almost prepared for the current weather while the other, a woman, wore nothing more than a leotard.

    He also noted that both were taller than him. Curses.

    Shivering, he hurriedly crossed the expanse of snow to the pair just in time to see the woman enter the building. The faint sound of someone retching met his ears and he could smell the death that awaited inside the building. Even though he'd only lived in the hospital for a year didn't mean that he wasn't used to the smells that were so common yet so overlooked. The town that he'd lived in in Mexico didn't help much either. Rot was common place there, so he had trained himself to ignore it, but now, in the numbing cold, the harsh and stomach-churning smell that was a dead body was far too strong.

    He desperately wished that he had something in his stomach, so that way he could rid himself of the feeling of nausea.

    It was odd though, he'd gotten so used to death that it no longer fazed him, even though he was a coward through and through.

    Shivering more out of disgust than cold, he turned to the taller man, seeing as the woman probably needed to gather her thoughts on what she might have seen in that apartment(Kota doubted that he'd be able to stop himself from falling into a panic attack if he dared to look inside).

    "H-h-hello, um..." He trained off, unsure of what to say.

    "Do-do you k-know where w-we are?"

    Kota knew that the question was stupid and that he'd probably get a no as an answer.

    "A-and um..." The mexican-asian man paused, trying to put some confidence into his answer. "W-who are y-you?"

    Some part of him, the kinder part, wished that he had something warm to give to the woman, but all he had was a slightly wet hospital gown and a pair of boxers.

    Min jumped when he yelling got a reply. He eyed the person before him and was about to ask them where he was when they interjected with an offer to give him their coat. "Yes please," he said as he took the coat and wrapped himself in it. It was slightly to long but otherwise was a snug fit. He looked at where the other person was pointing and shakily nodded, the city would have people in it. "Y-yeah let's go." As he walked with the other person towards the city he looked them over. "I'm Min, thanks for the coat. Are you- do you know what's going on? Before I was here, I thought, well I thought I was going to die." He struggled to get out his thoughts coherently, it wasn't like any of this made sense anyway.

    As they entered the city he searched for a person he could borrow a phone from. He hadn't got very far when he noticed another person. "Hello!" He called out, rushing towards them. Around the toward apartment buildings all in the same monotone grey but he hoped that they could go in soon, maybe they would have a pair of shoes in there for him. "Hey there," he looked the boy up and down and then glanced back to wren. The boy looked as lost as they did. Dejectedly he asked, "did you just wake up here too?"

    Arrash rounded another corner when he saw another person. His heart sunk when he heard the child call out for his mom and dad. He went forward and as not to scare the kid called out when he was still pretty far away. "Hey there, kid." He moved over to the kid and pulled out his knowledge of dealing with them from his police training. He knelt when he was close enough to the kid that he could easily hear him speaking. "Hey, are you okay? Do you know where you are?" He spoke gently.

    He looked around, noticing a house with a door left slightly ajar. It didn't seem like there was anybody in this city so it would be fine if he went if right. "What's your name bud? I'm a police officer so you can tell me." That was technically a lie but he had once been an officer and helping the kid took priority over explaining his sordid past. He offered the kid his hand, "why don't we go inside and see if we can call someone. We could get warm."

    //A tad rushed

    The sound of someone approaching caused Charlie to turn his head expectantly, a hopeful smile on his lips. However, his expression quickly changed at the sight of a stranger, and while he wanted to run away, his legs would not move. The child was clearly in shock having gone through so much in what seemed like just a few minutes and the cold was starting to get to him. Tears had already begun to streak down his red cheeks, leaving a biting cold behind as they all but froze on his face. It was a sad sight to see, that was for sure.

    At the mans first question, Charlie could only give a wordless shake of his head. He was no longer in his hometown and, if he knew anything about geography, he was no longer in the state of Colorado. He quickly used the back of his once gloved hand to wipe his eyes, a small sniffle the only sound he made. The young child eyed Arrash carefully, searching his face for anything that might be malicious or mean, though found nothing. "C-Charlie," he managed to get out, voice wavering once more due to both his fear and the cold.

    Charles hesitantly grabbed hold of the mans extended hand, not knowing what else to do, and quickly glanced around one more time. The child was completely and utterly at a loss. While he was still young, he knew for a fact that this was near impossible. Thinking back to the last time he was in familiar territory, he could only remember hearing his mother yelling his name. What had happened? Upon hearing the prospect of getting warm, Charlie nodded a bit weakly, looking towards the slightly opened door with a new hopeful expression.

  • May-female-twenty two

    May woke up, quickly shutting her eyes again, the sunlight hitting them. A thought suddenly hit her, wait, there should be a roof! She sat up with a jolt, looking around her in confusion. Where in the world was she? She got to her feet, noticing that there were several other people there. One of the people was a man, maybe in his late thirties, with a beard beginning to grow on his face. She shrugged to herself, heck for all she knew he would be her best bet to find out where she was. She made her way over to him, here eyes landing on each person she passed. Doubt began to form that she would find out what was going on. The people around her had confusion on their faces, some were panicked. She was happy that she was not to worried like the other people appeared to be. Even though a cold dread began to settle in her she figured not to worry to much until she knew that there was in fact trouble. "Hello," she began as she approached the man. "Umm, I just kinda... woke up here. Where am I?"

    She looked at the man curiously. "Well, I don't know how I got here. The last thing I remember was... jumping off a building. Then I was here." She shrugged, looking down at her feet. "Aren't you cold? It's freezing here!" She watched him slide down the building, his fluid movements reminding her of a tiger that had cornered its prey.

    "I don't mean to hurt anyone. I was just looking for some others... maybe we could work together to survive here." She hadn't seen any signs of life here, which she found to be rather unnerving. Especially since the city seemed so... large. And she didn't find anyone else? Even she found that suspicious.

    She shurgged. "If you want to go alone, though, that's okay, too."

  • Orchid stuck her cold hands in the pockets of her pants. It was cold, but she was ready for fall weather, at least, with her sweater. She squinted through the snow at the kid, using her sleeve to wipe it away from her eyelashes. "I'm Orchid," she introduced herself, her accent clearly British, not bothering to make her voice any softer because he was younger. She tried to treat them like adults, because they generally preferred that. She looked around. Didn't look like any city she'd been there. "I donno where we are. I'on't recognize this city." She glanced around, and then noticed he was shivering. "Let's hop inside somewhere. Doesn't look like there's anyone around, anyway."

    She scanned the area again, and still seeing no one else, she went towards a building that looked like a hardware store. Yes, there was heat on in here, and it was a relief. She motioned for Atticus to follow her, and looked around. It wasn't abandoned, only somewhat dusty. It was like everyone had evacuated, perhaps. Or disappeared. She licked her lips, getting dry in the cold, and stepped towards the door to the back, testing the knob. Locked. But there might be a key. She went behind the counter, scanning it, when she found what she wanted. A timesheet. She looked at it, and found the final date. ((vill ur gonna have to tell me what to put here))

    ---

    Lin made sure the third person was close enough so that he could see where they were going before following Karolina into the apartment. He wasn't sure if they were really supposed to be going in here, and he was surprised to find that it was actually open. He wondered why whoever it was hadn't locked the door. The smell dispelled those thoughts immediately, powerful even though he was far behind Karolina. He turned to look in the room, but then turned to Kota when he started asking him things. "I'm Lin. And... I think we're dead. At least in purgatory." In his head, he added I might just be dreaming, but it would be rude to accuse people of being figments of his imagination, especially when they had faces he didn't recognize. He kept it in the back of his mind as he turned to the apartment.

    Luckily, as a biologist, he'd dealt with a lot of stinky, rotting things. These were just bugs, he told himself, despite the instinctual sickness. Now, if there was a dead human body, that would freak him out. He pulled his shirt up over his mouth and nose, and stepped in. The kitchen was a biohazard. However, if he could find a closet, and some coats. He opened up one of the doors, but there was just a bunch of equipment. He wondered who owned this apartment. Someone who didn't wash the dishes, clearly. He went deeper in the apartment, and found the bedroom door. He opened it, and ducked in. Clothes were strewn across the floor. Two were sweaters. He grabbed them off the ground. They looked like they would be a bit big on him. So, good for the other two. He hurried back through the main room, sweaters under an arm. "Got some warm things. Here, put 'em on," he said, handing them to the two.

  • Karolina Edwards || Female || 21

    Karolina was numb with shock, she didn't even register the new comer to their little group. She shook her head slowly "No." She conceded and looked up at Lin with wide eyes and a pale face. The snow that landed on her face had made her makeup run and by wiping her face she had taken most of it off. "There are no bodies in hell. There's a body.. Behind the couch." She shuddered, her fingers shaking were not entirely due to the cold. She took a jumped humbly and stared at it in her hand.

    She swallowed, her mouth dry and the acidic burn of bile scorched the back of her throat. She looked up into the sky with a shuddering sigh and took a long, shaky breath.

    Callum O'Donahue || Male || 42

    Callum whipped around to lay eyes upon a girl, she was young. In her twenty's with blonde hair. She seemed confident.

    "Don't have a clue lass. I just woke up here. Same as you." He drawled in his thick Irish accent. He ran a hand through his bedraggled hair and shrugged his coat on tighter around himself, his breath fled his lips in puffs of smoke.

    The city seemed to be waking up, lights had flickered on.

  • JIRO SHENG LIN pic

    ~Featherlight~

    The man looked at her curiously. Jumping off a building? Sounds like an end in death just like his own. "I died as well. Asphyxiation." He scanned the area curiously after shoving his hands in his armpits. The whole city was covered with snow and seemed to be as bare as the eye can see. "Perhaps, first we should find a clothing store to find some clothes better fit for the weather because I'm freezing my balls off." Jiro enjoyed cool weather, not locked in a freezer cold. It was as if the world was shut off or there was some mass extinction of the population that once lived here. It would be beneficial to work together and the girl seemed harmless enough so he would just keep an eye on her. Scanning the area again he squinted his eyes. "It looks like there might be a store down the road there. If it's locked it won't be a problem, I don't care what could be in there as long as I can feel my finger tips and toes again." The raven snarked off slightly annoyed at the cold nipping at his nose. That was when he realized he did not even know the girl's name. "I'm Jiro." The raven stated waiting for her to understand the eluded question of her name in return.

  • "Kota." He mumbled as a response, though he doubted that Lin had heard with how quiet Kota had spoken. His fingers tightened their grip on his arms at the man's next response. If he thought that this was purgatory, then that mean that he'd probably died as well, but, judging by how he'd said it, also meant that he didn't believe it and that Kota was a figment of his imaginate, which said man took major offence to. He was a part of no-one's imagination but his own, and he opened his mouth to provide that fact to Lin, only for his throat to close up and his mouth to click shut. He did not know this man, this man was someone that he did not know, so he had no idea how he was going to react.

    Kota would rather not take any chances.

    Idly, using some part of his brain that wasn't focused on the anomaly of the world around him, Kota vaugely recognized the man's accent as American, but he couldn't pinpoint the exact state.

    Lin seemed like a nice guy, but Kota couldn't be too sure. After all, he'd met his fair share of nice-looking people who were utterly disgusting, and visa versa, but he digressed. Plus, Lin looked like a nerd, granted he was a very nice looking nerd and- Kota cut off his thoughts before they could go any further. He refused to let his head ramble on about anyone's looks, especially after he'd spoken his thoughts out loud. That one time had ended with Kota getting a full lecture on fashion that had gone right over his head.

    He might have been smart, but that didn't mean that he was good with everything.

    Kota was brought out of his thoughts by the man, Lin, he corrected himself, holding a sweater in from of him, of which Kota took with a very quiet word of gratitude. Slipping the sweater on, he immediately relaxed as he felt his body slightly warm up.

    Hearing the woman speak of what she found in the apartment brought a feeling of pity in Kota. He wanted to comfort her as he was wont to do with people that were upset or unsettled, but she was, like Lin, a person that he didn't know, so he didn't know how to comfort her.

    Still, the idea that the smell of death wasn't a part of his imagination brought a feeling of dread to his chest, along with another wave of nausea.

    Hugging her sweater around her tighter, Claudia started walking towards the looming, desolate city in hopes of finding some indication of where she was. She definitely was not home anymore, her neighborhood was never quiet with daily life and the distant drone from Buenos Aires. This city felt more like a ghost town, devoid of life. Though the streetlights were on, emitting a soft amber glow.

    As she approached the city, she saw a figure in the distance. Claudia paused, unsure of how friendly anyone else would be here. But she also didn't have any answers, and perhaps somebody else would, much as Claudia was much more comfortable on her own. She approached the figure, who looked to be a woman with dark hair. "Hey!" Claudia called out, tensing at the volume of her voice tearing through the quiet. "You know where the hell this place is?"

    Atticus was uneasy being around someone he didn't know, but she seemed nice enough, and it wasn't as if he really had any other options. He glanced mournfully at her apparel, wishing he had insisted mum had given him Sam's extra sweater now when he had had the chills. He hugged himself tighter, shivering in the cold as he followed Orchid.

    She led him into an abandoned hardware store that had heating. Atticus let out a soft, shuddering breath of relief. None of this made any sense. Was this still London? Was this even still England? He wished Sam and his parents were here. They'd have a better idea of what to do. "How did you get here?" Atticus asked, walking through the aisles to see if he could find anything worthwhile. Of course, not that he'd know what would be worthwhile or what to do with anything he did find, but standing around didn't seem quite right either. Besides, it was the first time in a while he'd been able to move around without feeling lightheaded or sick. He was planning on taking full advantage of that while he could.

    She nodded as she heard his name. "I'm Columbina. And I think getting into the store would be a good idea." She said, racing off to try and find an entrance to it. "If it's locked, I can probably find a way in. I bet you could, too." She smiled, looking at the door. She pulled on it, and it swung open with a creak.

    "Look! There's even some food left inside." She said, wandering into the store. There weren't any lights on, but she could see from the very faint sunlight outside. She looked for a light switch, but couldn't find one.

    Jiro curiously meandered around the store surprised at the store being locked. He had split up from the girl to search for clothing as well. Surprisingly he found a thick and warm looking jacket that extended down passed the hips. Unfortunately, it seemed to have belong to someone else as there was a frozen dead body wearing it. With a tilt of his head he started pulling the coat off of the corpse. "Not like he's going to need it." The raven muttered under his breath. "Hey," Jiro called to Columbina. "Watch out there is a dead body over here. Let's hope that this is all we find." Slipping his newly acquired jacket on before sniffing the jacket curiously. Lucky for him there wasn't a smell due to the frozen man below. It was a bit awkward when he bent the guy's arm back it practically snapped off. This was an odd place.

    Columbina nodded, closing the door behind him, and looked for anything that would be warmer. She saw a fur-lined coat, and grabbed it, smiling at the warmth. "I'll have to keep an eye out, see if there's any others." She looked around, seeing if there was anything that could be used for other purposes; heating, bedding, or even a meal.

    She noticed a staircase, and walked up it carefully, dark eyes scanning the area. Her hair was almost frozen, so she didn't have to worry about it falling in her face. There must have been an apartment above the store, because there was a door, ajar, at the top of the staircase. "Jiro! Come here!"

  • Lin pulled his shirt over his shoulders, glad for the warmth it provided. He'd been kind of cold. He nodded, noting Kota's name down firmly in his mind. He didn't want to forget it. He looked over towards Karolina, who seemed really freaked out, and was about to ask what was wrong when she explained. A dead body. A shock went through him. A dead body, Jesus Christ. This was an apartment full of death. An empty city. He felt a familiar tightness in his chest. No, not right now. He took just a second, breathed in for three seconds, stopped for five, out for four. Did it again. He needed to be calm. Hold himself together.

    "We need to find more information," he said, quite suddenly. It was how he would do research in any other situation-- find the evidence, the variables, the things they needed to know. Connect the dots. He looked around, trying to think. "Maybe..." He noticed something in the sky. Right, this was a city! "Maybe if we go up to the top of one of the tallest buildings and look around. See what's outside the city." He felt himself detaching from the situation. Sometimes, that was upsetting, but at times like these it was helpful.

    ---

    Orchid stared at the paper. "Last person checked in a month ago, just about," she muttered. It would be good for both of them to know this information. She hadn't found a key, however. She went towards the wires, thinking about how strange it was that the person hadn't checked out, but if there was some sort of evacuation, why would they? She paused as Atticus asked her a question, and she glanced up. "...I'on know, honestly. I was at a protest. And..." There was a gunshot. She frowned. That probably didn't bode well.

    Orchid, wire in hand, headed towards the employees only door, and got down to her knees. She quickly and efficiently picked the lock, a skill she had picked up during some questionable work. She grinned at Atticus, shot finger guns at him, and opened the door.

    A dead body lay face-down on the table.

    She slammed the door closed, and spun towards Atticus. Jesus, she couldn't let some kid see this. She hesitated. "I didn't catch your name, by the way. You tryna hide something from me?" Her tone was joking, but she clearly sounded shaken.

    Atticus found nothing that looked useful - to him at least - and walked over to the front counter and leaned on it, watching Orchid. She frowned at his question of how she had gotten here, which in turn made Atticus frown. He tried to connect some sort of dots to figure out why they were here, what similarities did they have? He came up short and glanced away, folding his arms around himself, his frown melting away.

    He didn't see her pick the lock on the door, but he heard her slam the door shut. Atticus jumped and turned to face her. He opened his mouth to ask what happened, when she asked him a question. He realised he hadn't told her his name and made a soft noise of realisation. "Oh, right, sorry. I'm Atticus." Something about her own tone seemed off to him and he frowned again. "What's in that room?" he asked, craning his neck to look at the door as if he might be able to see something off. Very faintly, he could smell something off, something foul, but he wasn't sure what it was.

    May's eyes flicked to the city lights turning on, "yes that's what I thought," she mumbled. "Does anyone know if there's anyone in this town? It sure looks deserted but maybe..." She turned around to look at the other people, she presumed that they were its only population but she hoped the man would say that it really wasn't abandoned. There were plenty more matters to attend to though, how did she get here anyways, and what would she do with the growing cold when she just had a t-shirt? She wouldn't bother with either yet though, she was pretty resistant to the cold and figured that thinking about how she ended up here would just give her a head ache.

    Karolina shook her head, she couldn't afford to be shocked. She need to find away back as soon as possible. Her brother needed her. She stood, her set in a hold determination. She covered her mouth and nose with an hand and headed back into the apartment, she avoided looking at the body and she walked past it into one of the bedrooms, she flung open a wardrobe and grabbed the warmest looking coat she could find. She slipped it on, it was a mans and was too big for her tiny frame but it would do. She stepped to a set of draws and pulled out a pair of jeans, they to were a mans and way to big for her but she pulled them on anyway. She used the hair bobble from her hair to adjust the waist so they didn't slide down and rolled up the cuffs. She frowned as her long hair fell into her face and stuck to the greasepaint on her skin. She used a T-shirt from the drawer to wipe the rest of the make-up off. She now was a lot warmer and more presentable. She left the apartment quickly and rejoined the pair outside. Her eyes widened in mild surprise as she finally registered the newcomer to the group. "Err, hi. " she greeted in a French accent and an awkward wave. She turned back to Lin "I'm sorry what were you saying?" She asked. She was now in a large brown coat with baggy jeans. Her long brown hair framed her angular face. She was pretty, and her skin was an olive tan - a testament to a life lived in sunshine. Her cheekbones were strong and her eyes were a bright blue.

    Callum glanced at the girl, his expression grim. "It can't be empty. Someone had to have turned those lights on." He drawled. He felt the anxiety tighten its cold grip on his heart, yeah. Everyone in the city happened to turn all their lights on at the exact same time. He thought sarcastically. He noticed the girl was cold and he shrugged off his coat and held it out to her, he was wearing a pullover over his T-shirt. It did little to stop the wall of cold that his coat had been holding at bay when in hit him. He felt the goosebumps on his arms and he fought the urge to shiver. • Kota managed a small "Hello," before a cold spike traveled up his spine, sending almost painful shivers though his body. The sweater helped with the cold, but he would still need to warm up soon.

    The lady had grabbed a set of clothes from inside the housing unit, but Kota was wary of going inside due to the bodies that were in there. He had no idea what would happen if he did go inside, but necessity outweighed his apprehension and the mexican-asian stepped inside the apartment. Balking at the stronger smell and relaxing at the welcoming warmth, Kota stumbled though the apartment to the bedroom, trying to ignore the decaying bodies. Quickly, he dug through the chester drawers and blindly grabbed a t-shirt and a pair of pants. Slipping out of the hospital gown and sweater and into the clothes, Kota rushed out of the apartment, hurriedly sliding the sweater over his head.

    Once out into the unforgiving air, Kota bent down with one hand clapped over his mouth. He tried not to retch as he stood up.

    Idly, he realized that he'd forgotten to grab a pair of shoes, but he had no intention of going back inside that apartment anytime soon.
