  • Here is our thread! :) Let me know if there's anything I need to add to my character's form. I usually like to develop personality in the rp, if that's okay.

  • We can start with that ^^

Id prefer you start because along with the fact I'm not that good with starting and I can see how much you respond with and try to respond with relatively the same amount of text.

  • (OOC: That's fine with me! ^^ Hope I started okay!)

The castle had fallen. Kaiya could see that much. During the battle, she had been holed up in her quarters with her handmaiden, listening anxiously to the sound of battle outside. They had been forced to sneak away from her quarters when men from the enemy's army had come too close for their liking, and the princess had since been separated from her companion. After that, she had hidden herself in her father's parlor room, listening for any sounds of approaching footsteps.

Where were her parents? Kaiya had yet to see any trace of her father or her mother since the fighting started. Surely they were still alive. Right? Fear for her parents crept up her spine. She had to find them, but moving around the castle would be difficult with the battling and all the enemy knights around. She had yet to see any of her father's personal guards of even the captain of the guard himself. Surely they'd know if her parents were safe. Either way, Kaiya knew she needed to find someone. Slowly, she began towards the door of the parlor, listening closely for any signs of nearby fighting.

  • (its perfect!)

Nikolai frantically scoured the castle, in search of the princess. The castle was under siege... And he currently was unaware whether the other royals had escaped or not. He needed to protect the heir above all, and the other guards scouted for the king, queen, etc... Nikolai was overwhelmed of the sudden overthrowing of the palace, and the fact that he knew many would die today and if not today very soon. Unfortunately, he was presuming the other royals would be the primary targets of the enemies attacking. The princess included, he hoped he would be able to get to her in time...

He felt as if someone was within the parlor room... Opening the door and quickly darting inside, eyeing whoever was in there. He could see the princess now, and breathed with relief.

"Princess Kaiya, quick. We neee to exit the castle immediayely," he held out his hand, expecting her to take it so he could take her along.

  • The sound of footsteps rushing through the corridor outside caused Kaiya to tense. She backed up as they approached, jumping when the door was abruptly thrown open. Fearing it was an enemy, she prepared to try and run or fight, but when she realized she was looking at Nikolai, she let out a shaky, relieved breath. Thank goodness it was him. He was the Captain of the Guard and someone she knew she could trust. When he spoke, she felt her throat tighten. Hearing him say they had to leave further confirmed to her that the castle, her home, was lost. "Have you seen my mother and father?" She asked, reaching out to take his hand. She prayed that someone had found them and had gotten them out of her safely. "Does anyone know if they are safe?" Kaiya was desperate for some news of them.

  • Nikolai had a frown on his face but he managed to shift it into at least a half smile for the princess. He didn't want her to be too alarmed, but enough alarmed that she knew they needed to get out of there as soon as they possible could. With the kingdom under siege, it was only moments before the castle would be entirely swarmed with the enemy and there would be no options to run away. They would have to submit to their enemy. And he knew without a doubt the princess would be forced into something. Somewhat of an arranged marriage with some random other kingdom. No... She'd most likely be kept as a slave, sold to the highest bidder. That was what he interpreted. And he? Probably killed. Or kept as a slave as well. He couldn't know and he didn't want to find out.

"I haven't. And no one that I know does..." He guided her off, and quickly. Exiting the castle through what he believed to be the safest way. His tone dripped with sadness and sorrow.

  • (OOC: I was thinking that they travel until they come across an inn to stay at for a night or two so they can rest properly?)

Kaiya felt a chill run through her when Nikolai said that he didn’t know where her parents were. Nor did anyone he knew. That wasn’t good. Swallowing the rapidly forming lump in her throat, she followed him. Part of her knew it was it was slim, but Kaiya hoped that she’d see her parents after they’d left the castle. As they left the castle walls, she glanced up, seeing smoke rising from a few windows and the sounds of battle. It took every once of her self control not to demand that she and Nikolai go back to look for the king and queen. But she knew what fate would await them if they didn't get to safety. Slavery, or even death. So, with a heavy heart, she kept pace with Nikolai, hoping that some of the other guards had gotten her parents out. After they got a little further away, she asked, "Where will we go?"

  • [ sure ]

He wouldn't let her go either way. His one sole duty was to protect her life, and even with his own. He'd make sure she could escape. Risking his own life in the process if it were needed. Only if it were needed. That way, he'd die as an honorary soldier; dying for his cause, and not out of mere vain. He just ran, making sure he didn't make her trip over anything as he continued to run. Enemies filed into the castle, luckily, they seemed to go unnoticed. He didn't stop running. He wasn't much of an athlete, but with adrenaline coursing through his veins, he was fine. "To a place to stay in the nearest town. Its just up ahead," He pointed as they ran further. A huge sign lay, and underneath was some kind of space which appeared to be something like that of an inn. The odds were in their favor to survive... But he didn't know for how long.

  • Keeping up with Nikolai wasn’t an easy task. At least not in the dress that Kaiya wore. It snagged on branches and sticks as they ran, slowing her down a little. The branches picked and tore at her dress, but she didn't care. Her only concern was getting away from the castle. They had to put some distance between them and the castle before anyone realized they weren’t there. She looked ahead as Nikolai answered her question. Up ahead, she see the small town. It didn't take them much longer to reach it, though Kaiya didn't relax as they entered the sleepy town. As they walked towards a huge sign over a building that Kaiya was sure was an inn, she looked to Nikolai, "Do you think we will be safe here?" She asked him, trying to keep the nervousness from her town. What if there many supporters of the rebellion in this town? It was hard for her not to worry.

  • He flinched as he noticed all of this happening and whatnot. He felt bad as sticks, twigs, branches, etc... were getting caught in the girls dress. He hated dresses for such reason. It was as if they were trying to make people on the run get caught and trip over everything. He felt bad for her in this situation, but commended her for continuing to run and whatnot. As they continued on, and finally settling near an inn, he looked to her. "Truthfully?" He murmured. He needed to offer her at least that much. "I have no idea. But hopefully..." He stepped inside.

  • Kaiya slowly nodded his reply, feeling nervousness knotting her stomach. She hesitated for a brief moment before following him inside the inn. As they stepped inside, the few people at the tables glanced up. While the stares made Kaiya uneasy, as due to her clothing it would be clear to nearly anyone that she was of noble birth, she was glad to see there weren’t many people here at the moment.

The man at the counter looked up at them, eyeing them for a moment. “Can I help you?” He asked. Kaiya’s blue eyes flickered towards Nikolai for a moment before replying, “Can we have two rooms, please?” She asked, feeling uncertain and out of her element. The man grunted. “There’s some rooms upstairs to the right. It’ll be ten gold for each room. How long you staying?” Kaiya nearly winced when he mentioned the gold. She didn’t have any. But, she was wearing a few rings she could use to barter. Glancing toward Nikolai, she decided it’d best to let him decide on how long they were staying.

  • He felt bad for the girl, having to go through such traumatic stuff. He did too but... It wasnt like being unaware that if his entire family was dead or not. He knew straight away, and he wasn't the only alive one in his family.. She might be. He would never bring it up, but that haunted him a bit. He knew it would her, too. So he wanted to distract her as best as possible. The main priority was her safety, and he believed personally her emotions should be included.

He opened his mouth to speak but shut it as soon as the female spoke. Not wanting to interrupt her for that would be fairly rude and there was really no need to. He pondered for a moment before responding to the man. "Just until we get a bit stabilized. I'll pay you full for the entire amount, but I can't interpret that currently..."

  • The man eyed them suspiciously when Nikolai said they’d pay him when he said they’d pay him the full amount once they were stabilized. Clearly, he was worried about them running off without paying. Before he could say anything though, Kaiya had pulled off one of the rings on her fingers. “Will this cover our rooms?” She asked, holding out the sapphire ring for him to see. It wasn’t the ring with her family’s crest on it, so she wasn’t quite as unwilling to part with it. Her family crest ring was something she didn't want to have taken away. It was the only thing she had left of them. Kaiya knew that her parents were likely dead, though she was trying not to think about it. She kept telling herself that she had to be strong right now. She wasn't the only one who had went through something traumatic today.

As the innkeeper picked up the ring, he studied it for any signs of damage or poor craftsmanship. "I'll take it," he said, pocketing it. "You can stay as long as you need. There's two rooms upstairs towards the end of the hall on the left side. You two can take those." Kaiya gave a nod of her head, "Thank you."

  • Of course, Nikolai would never do such a thing as run without paying unless it was absolutely necessary. Though he could see where the innkeeper was coming from, he'd be distrustful too of passerby's. And he'd suspect himself of the same thing the innkeeper did... He blinked when the female gave up one of her rings. Sighing gently to himself as she did so, frowning a bit. He didn't want her to give up so much of her stuff... Including her family, but at this point, he couldn't just make her keep it or anything. They could spend their money on more important things such as food or whatnot, he assumed...

He breathed softly when the man accepted the ring, offering a polite smile to him. "Thank you sir,"

  • The man nodded to the two before turning his focus back to cleaning the pewter cups sitting in front of him. Kaiya glanced back towards some of the people still downstairs. Some had returned to their earlier conversations, while some still watched them. She shifted uncomfortably, turning to look at Nikolai for a moment. “Come on, let’s go get some rest. I’m sure we both could use it,” Kaiya said, fiddling absently with one of her remaining rings. She had three left, once including the ring decorated with her family’s crest. She had a pair of earrings on too that she could sell if they needed the money, food, or other necessities. As she climbed the steps up towards their rooms, Kaiya spoke again, “How long do you think we’ll be staying here?” She asked in a quiet tone.

  • Once she spoke to him, he nodded gently. She was right. They both needed rest, and sleep could clear up his thoughts which would be really nice. Hers too. Hopefully neither ended up in that of a nightmare or that wouldn't be good at all... "Alright," He smiled a bit to that. He wanted to sleep. He was quite tired, in all honesty. He glanced to her rings out of the corner of his eyes before moving to enter his room, giving her a small nod. "Come to me if youre ever in need of something,"

  • (OOC: Should we timeskip to morning in a few posts?)

At Nikolai’s reply, Kaiya gave a thin, though still appreciative smile. “I will, thank you.” It was good to know there was someone she could still trust, a friend. Right now, she felt so out of place it was a great comfort to have someone she knew and trusted. The blonde woman began to walk towards the other door, but paused as she began to open it. Looking back to Nikolai, she spoke again. “I didn’t get the chance to say this earlier, but thank you for getting me out of the castle.” She owed him her life. He could have just fled the castle when the walls were breached. Instead he had found her and helped her escape.

  • (in so sorry for the way late response I've been uber busy for the past months. And that's fine with me)

He smiled warmly to her as he watched her with sorrowful eyes. These changing to their regular format whenever she cast even the slightest glance. He didn't want her to worry about him in the slightest. "No problem. My loyalty is undying to you, and I swore on my life that I would protect you to my dying breath. I don't go back on such oaths,"
