Since I want to spoopify my chapters from The Legend of Fox the Brave this time around, I'm going to include the Prologue of an upcoming story, Storm of Warriors.
The empty, bright blue sky was cloudless as Austin Smith padded out. He glanced around, yawning and stretching. The big German Shepherd climbed atop the main building of the Storming Base, feeling the light breeze ruffle the thick fur around his neck and shoulders. Life is good. He thought, beginning to hum On Top of the World, one of his favorite songs. A cold feeling washed over him, and he stopped. Twitching an ear nervously, he turned his head to see a dark shadow nearby. A strange figure rose from it, and Austin's hackles rose. "No!" he whispered. This was none other than the dangerous evil being Mephiles the Dark. Several moons ago, in Dusty Desert, Austin and his Dusk Lycanroc friend and Z-Partner Boulder had worked together to defeat Mephiles with a powered-up Continental Crush Z-Move. It had worked and Mephiles had somehow been sealed away in something called the Scepter of Darkness, but traces of his evil had still been felt since; Boulder often had nightmares or dark visions regarding Mephiles, while Austin had felt ill with a cold, sickening feeling every now and then. Austin turned to face Mephiles, aware that he stood near the edge of the building, and one slip of the paw or one wrong step and he would fall down. The building wasn't high enough for a fall to be fatal, but it would certainly jar an old back injury that sometimes came back to haunt him. The evil being in front of him laughed then said, "Oh how ironic it is to see you here. The brave warrior Austin Smith, now in trouble without his 'friends' around to save him." Rage swelled in Austin's belly, making his pelt bristle and he snarled, "I can take you easy!" but deep down, he trembled. He came from a World completely different from the one he lived in now. In his home-World, Austin's only exposure to Mephiles had been via videos that had the evil being in them. Austin squared his broad shoulders, taking a deep breath to gather his shaky nerves. "I can help you prevent all the trouble that is coming." Mephiles said, never once moving his unblinking stare from the bristling warrior as Austin gulped, still trying to gather his bearings. Mephiless stepped closer to Austin and said, "I can even help you change the past, so that your friends were never lost." Austin shut his eyes, swallowing hard again as he thought of all the warriors the Storming Alliance had lost, friends and family alike. The ones that hurt him the most were his brother Michael, and his sons Dallas and Dakota. When he opened his eyes to look at Mephiles again, one pained face came to mind: Dallas, his white-furred son. One of Mephiles' monsters had crushed Dallas' chest when the younger warrior leaped in its way to protect his father. "No." Austin said. He felt himself stop shaking, and he stood up straight, his fur lying flat. "What?" Mephiles asked, tipping his head a bit without glancing away. "I will never forget that it was one of your monsters that killed my son." Austin growled, curling his lip in a hint of a snarl. "You would rather let your Worlds fall?" Mephiles challenged. "I'd rather protect the Worlds rather than listen to a lying monster like you!" Austin snarled, his hackles rising. The sky suddenly grew dark, as did the environment around them. Austin glanced around, becoming fearful again. He glanced down, his whole pelt bristling when he saw the shadows rising around his paws, threatening to drag him down. "Then you will die with everyone else!" Mephiles said coldly as Austin stumbled, trying frantically to pull his paws outbefore he fell onto his belly. The shadows engulfed him, and as his vision darkened, all Austin could hear was Mephiles laughing at him. Then, he woke up with a start, his pelt drenched with sweat. It was all a nightmare. He thought. He rested his head back on his paws and closed his eyes again, aware of his mate Rosa on one side and his close friend Storm on the other. The War of Darkness is far from over. He thought. The Final Battle is coming, and it will decide the fate of the Four Worlds themselves.
EDIT: The title of my story is actually going to be Storm of Warriors
