“Lafayette? Come in.” Washington called and Aurora glanced to her fiancé. She had only met Washington once really, when Lafayette had led her to his tent.
“At least we’re together.” Join agreed then.
“Lafayette? Come in.” Washington called and Aurora glanced to her fiancé. She had only met Washington once really, when Lafayette had led her to his tent.
“At least we’re together.” Join agreed then.
Lafayette moved the flap out of the way and led Aurora the rest of the way into the tent. “Bonjour, General, I’m sure you’ve met Aurora Lancaster before?” He asked, gesturing to Aurora.
Virginia nodded. “At least we’re together,” she echoed. She supposed nothing else mattered as long as that was true.
Aurora stayed at Lafayette’s side, curtsying to Washington when they stopped.
“Ah yes, you helped the Schyuler’s with their ball.” Aurora inclined her head slightly in agreement.
John cupped her cheek gently before kissing her forehead. “I love you, Virginia.”
Lafayette nodded. “Oui, and she did a marvelous job,” he boasted, allowing his chest to puff with pride. “But, that isn’t what we came here for,” he said, looking to Aurora for support, “I have asked Miss Lancaster to become my wife.”
Virginia reached up and gently placed her hand over his. “And I love you.” She was determined to be the best wife to him she could be.
Aurora blushed softly at his boasting of her, but she gave him an encouraging smile. Washington was clearly surprised but he smiled at the pair. “Congratulations!” He told them both, although he knew the timing was probably not the best for Aurora since they’d be leaving soon.
Lafayette beamed under Washington’s praise. He was glad to have the General’s approval and even gladder than Washington seemed so excited. “We plan on having a winter wedding,” he explained.
“When we return?” Washington asked, looking at the two of them. He was pleased to see how far Lafayette had come, he had certainly been a great help to their cause so far.
(What if he walks Aurora because her father is uh dead? I’m thinking either Washington or Phillip Schuyler)
Lafayette nodded. “Oui, that way nothing will get in the way of our wedding,” he explained. He was determined to come back alive because, in his eyes, that was the only thing that could get in their way.
(Maybe, but Washington could also be Lafayette’s best man)
Aurora smiled happily hearing how determined he was to make sure they had their wedding. “We’ll have to make sure we’re back at the first sign of winter then.” He told Lafayette.
(That’s true, the Phillip Achuyler can walk her)
Lafayette beamed, flattered by Washington’s words. “By this time next year, you’ll only have to worry about marrying Hamilton off,” he teased.
Washington laughed then, shaking his head slightly. “Whoever he marries will have their hands full.” He spoke simply.
Lafayette nodded his own agreement. “The “tom cat” is certainly a hand full, whoever she is, his bride will be a force to be reckoned with,” he joked. He smiled at Aurora, “Or perhaps he will be lucky enough to marry an angel, like mon amour .”
Aurora blushed softly, wrinkling her nose playfully to try and hide her blush. “You’re too kind,” she told him playfully.
Lafayette shook his head. “No, mon cherie, I speak nothing but the truth,” he insisted. A playful smirk played upon his lips.
Aurora shook her head, the blush still resting on her cheeks. “Whatever you say,” she relented playfully.
“Whatever I say is true,” Lafayette retorted playfully. He turned to the General. “General Washington, I think we’ll take our leave now,” he said politely.
Washington has been watching them with an amused smile and a raised eyebrow. “Go on then.” He encouraged, assuming they’d want to spend as much time together as possible before they had to part.
“Merci,” Lafayette said. With that, he ducked out of Washington’s tent with Aurora’s hand still clasped in his.
Aurora followed him closely, smiling at him when they exited. “So... that seems like it went well.” She told him hopefully.
Lafayette nodded in agreement. “You were wonderful, mon amour. It seems like you’ve won the general’s approval,” he praised.
