  • "Young. We were so young when we thought that we knew how to love, fought about anything, and everything led to dysfunction. But we just gotta own that shit. Maybe we can go from this? We both know I go too far like when I wrecked your car and almost fought your father when he pushed me in the yard and all those nights we snuck out. Don't worry, my love, we're learning to love. But it's hard when you're young. Caught, we were caught up in the high, it was better than drugs."

These two have been through everything they thought, and so did everyone else. The couple everyone talked 'bout and wanted to be. Her, the caption of the dance team and him, the star soccer player of the school. They have been dating since the seventh grade. Who would have thought that a middle school relationship would last this long. Now going into their senior year might be the most difficult of all. They had thought they were going to have an easy year and both go to ASU next year, him on a soccer scholarship. Going into homecoming week they find out they are in the running for homecoming queen and king, but he also has other news. News that could ruin all their plans. He finds out that he has been diagnosed with leukemia melanoma in his right leg. He doesn't want to ruin her senior year and last homecoming so what is he going to do an how will this affect their relationship?

  • Name: Micah Joseph Conner

Personality: A pretty nice sweet guy he is your typical hometown hero, good at sports and a good guy all around. He is more focused on his school work and soccer then going to parties or hanging out with friends. Still, behind his smile he has very little self-esteem. In middle school he was teased relentlessly for being a short chubby kid which hurt him a lot and ever since he does not go a day without working out and refuses to eat some things merely on principle. A sweet guy who loves his family and girlfriend he would do anything for her and often does small romantic gestures to show her how much he cares. He always tries to put her concerns before his.

Likes: Cold days with hot chocolate, cats especially kittens, the rush right before a game, soccer, and running

Dislikes: Being criticized, bringing up how he looked in middle school, off season, and hot weather

  • k -ill start on that Monday of the homecoming week. you can decide when he got the news and such.

-I made my way down the hall of the school that was no filled with people. The walls blasted with homecoming posters saying things like lets go "lets go RHS" and "beat those tigers". I had my head phones in and was listening to my favorite song at the time. I got to the red locker that had a picture of a dancer on it and my name. something the dance team did at the beginning of the season was tap one onto everyone on the team. id gotten used to seeing this every year and made my locker stand out slighty as it stood next to the other red ones on either sides of it. I opened my locker and looked into the magnet mirror that connected to the red locker. I pushed my blonde locks behind my ear as a small yawn escaped my lightly tinted pink lips. Id gotten up early this morning to go to the studio in the school and practice a few things for when the dance team is performing at the football game this Friday. My outfit  today wasn't anything too special just a tie dyed shirt with a pair of leggings and my trusty black converse, who were in dire need of being replaced. I also didn't really bother with too much make up most of the time compared to most of my friends. My usual routine consisted of eyeliner, pink tinted chapstick, my eyebrows and occasionally eyeliner. I grabbed the large blue pre calc book along with my pencil bag and a grey notebook then closed the locker door and twisted the lock to reset it. I pulled my phone

out from the side of my bag and texted Micah class starts in 8 minutes better get your butt to school ;) . I looked up to see mine and Michahs friends, a mix of boys and girls we have both known since elementary school. i started towards them and found a place in the make shift circle as everyone was discussing the homecoming activities of the week. Monday(today) was the parade and when they announced the royalty during first period, Tuesday was the soccer game, Wednesday was the volley ball game, Thursday was coronation when they crowned king and queen and Friday was of course the big football game then Saturday was the dance.

  • He was going to be late. Of course he didn't want to be but, today was just one of those days. He had started feeling extra tired lately and so this weekend had taken him to the doctor to be checked out. They had been running a bunch of tests and after school he had to got back for another appointment. Scurrying out of the house after he assured his mom that he was alright to go to school. It was their final homecoming there was no way he was missing this for anything. It was a short hectic drive to school which involved two stops to drop his brother and sister off at their schools. By the time he got into the building it was getting down to crunch time. Getting some weird look from the teacher holding the door open. Reaching in his pocket he checked his phone seeing a text from Hailee who had a couple hearts on each side of her name on his phone. My butt didn't get out of bed soon enough -_- Laughing to himself he nearly took out a freshman as he turned the corner.

If didn't take him long to find the big group in the middle of the hall that were his and Haliee's friends. Half running he slowed down as he got near the group. Smiling he came over slapping one of the guy's on the back, his best friend, Mikey who he had been friends since kindergarten. Spotting Haliee by her blonde hair he walked up and wrapped an arm around her. "I made it." He said just as the first bell rang.

  • I turned to see a familiar male and felt his arms wrap around me. Barely! I said with a slight giggle. Micah was slightly taller than me, just tall enough that I could wear heels. I wasn’t short but I wasn’t tall either just average. Now you get to walk me to class. I told him and snaked my fingers in between his and gave him a little wink. We only had two classes together and that was first period, pre-calc and government which was fourth period. Those were my two favorite classes just because I got to be with him. Micah and I had been dating since 7th grade, who would have thought we would last this long. We started dating on a dare and now here we are still today. We’ve been planning for the future, I can’t imagine life without him. He’s a part of me. We have been through pretty much everything together. One time when he had an away game for soccer I’d drove to go watch it and on the way him we got into a car accident, luckily neither of us got hurt. Another time we snuck out to go to a party and we’re out all night and both of us got grounded but it was worth it to be with him for the whole night.

  • Chuckling he squeezed her hand. "Lucky me." Leading her towards class just like he did every morning he wouldn't have it anyway. Even though he hated math he loved precalc just because he got to be there with her. He had never thought he and Haliee would have made it all the way to senior year because of a stupid date. Even back then he was amazed she even agreed to the bet since he was an awkward kid in middle school that was a looser that most people either laughed or avoided him together. None of that matter now since he had Haliee. Walking in hand into class he settled in their usual seat swinging his bag off of his shoulder and smiling back at her. "I almost just want to skip class and spend some alone time with you." He sighed letting go of her hand. Unzipping his bag he pulled the book for this class. Tapping his fingers on the cover he couldn't take his eyes off of her until the teacher cleared his throat really, he was used to them being lovey dovey in his class by this point.

  • -sorry took so long I had school apps I needed to do

I didn't want to let go of his hand as we approached the classes room. I drew little doodles on his hand with my thumb as we held hands most of the time and this is exactly what I was doing, it was calming to me. wouldn't that be nice I replied with a little sigh escaping my lips. I wasn't the best at math and never have been. numbers never really clicked with me, but English and science classes were the opposite. I would have to bust my butt to even pull a C in math but in every other class it just came natural to me. but I think it would lead to some detentions and I don't really want to endure that I said with a slight giggle. I've been known as a girl to stick to the rules, only ever breaking them Micah was there to coax me into it. before id met him I was very sheltered. I had quite a few friends but never really felt comfortable telling them anything. then he came around and into my life and that all changed. He was the one that taught me how to sneak out and how to even pick a lock back into my house. He wasn't a bad kid just liked to keep things interesting. We didn't really go to many parties, and if we did we didn't really drink. maybe one or two. I was good for him this way, I would keep him safe and he would keep me a little wild. I took my seat, it was two away from Micahs and right in the front. I smiled to micah and then broke the gaze when I heard the teacher, oops. I looked to the front and saw him start to write numbers and letters on the board. (-6z2–54z)÷(z+9), If p(w)=4w2–18w–13, use synthetic division to find p(5), x3+1. these should be pretty easy, just a little review. work on these alone before we get to the lesson. the teacher said and took a spot leaning on his desk practically staring at us to make sure we were doing it.

  • Looking blankly at the board the teacher might has well have written the whole thing in Greek or Latin. Putting his face in his hands math was the one class he was absolutely terrible at. He could at least understand most of science and language, even Spanish and French had been doable. Although he had never been a straight A student he kept his grades up with mostly C's and a couple of B's in classes he really powered through. If it wasn't for Socceer and staying eligible he would not work so hard at it. If he could just play sports and not show up to class he would. Of course he would also miss Haliee which he couldn't imagine doing. Taking out his note book and a mechanical pencil from somewhere in the bottom of his bag he scratched down a possible answer to the problem. Once he had attempted it he looked up at the person who sat beside him, a junior who was ahead in math classes sighed and leaned over to look. "Yeah that's mostly right." He mumbled before turning back to his own work. Shrugging Micah turned to glance up in Haliee's direction smiling briefly as he set down his pencil deciding mostly right was good enough.

  • After the lesson was over there was still 8 minutes left of class, and since it was homecoming week we go to leave early. Which was a miracle coming from that teacher because he is one of the strictest in the whole school. I packed my stuff into my bag and and tucked my hair behind my ear as I stood and looked to Micah. I waited for him to get his stuff in his bag also and then met him outside the class rooms door. I didn't have a class period next, a perk of being a senior is you get opens. in an open you can leave school for that hour or do whatever you want really. you just don't have a class then. a few times during my open I would go and work on dance stuff again. I was dedicated if you couldn't tell. when he walked out of the class I grabbed his arm they are supposed to say the candidates next period I leaned my head onto his shoulder as we walked a little then looked up at him who do you think it'll be? the senior class got to vote for three girls and three boys and then Thursday at coronation they would say who won between those six. I had voted for my best friends. I lead him towards my locker and then put my stuff into it after putting in my combination, the same one for the past three years. I closed it and leaned against it while looking at him. I could look into his eyes all day and not get bored. was it corny that he was my favorite thing?

  • When the lesson was over he was already sliding his book back in his bag as the teacher finished up. He couldn't wait to get out of this class. He wasn't going to get to see Haliee for a while. At least he got to walk with her for a bit. Standing up he glanced over at Haliee packing the last of his things back in bag. Swinging his bag over his shoulder he walked out of class behind the massive shuffle of kids all walking through the same door, no one really wanted to linger too long in this class. Walking through the door he felt her hands around his arm and smiled softly glancing down at her as they walked. "Yeah it's really anyone's game. Gabby and Cruz most likely." Gabby and Cruz were a couple who had been together since Freshmen year. It wasn't as long as he and Haliee had been together but, it was still a long time in high school terms. "I mean it would be cool if one of our friends got in or something." Following her to her locker he leaned against the wall of lockers waiting for her to put her things up. He was a teacher's aid for second, which basically meant he could show and leave whenever he wanted. Most of the time he just used the period to sleep or do work if he was too far behind. Really it didn't matter much to him who won. He hadn't ever really thought that much about if he and Haliee were candidates even though it was possible. Yawning loudly he covered his mouth smiling briefly looking down into her eyes. Leaning forward he gave her a kiss on the cheek.

  • we're going to watch the parade together right? I asked him with a huge smile on my face. call me childish but I loved parades and all that. homecoming week was probably my favorite of the whole school year. there was just so much going on. it was the last time I would get to cheer my boyfriend on at the homecoming game. I loved going got coronation and seeing all the candidates for the king and queen in their dresses and tuxes. Of course the homecoming football was amazing too since pretty much the whole school ended up going to that one and then the last homecoming dance I will ever attend. it was weird to think that it was the last time and next year I would be in college. I couldn't wait to start my life with micah next year. nothing could stop us from achieving what we've been talking about for awhile at least thats what I thought. he's the only guys I've ever loved, been with, he was my first kiss and first everything. he had my heart. we have both got accepted to ASU next year which was only about 30 minutes away from here, Phoenix. that meant it would be easy to go see out families whenever we wanted. my parents were divorced but they still got along, they both just realized that they were better off as friends then being married. I also had a little sister who was three years younger than me, and an older brother who is a year older than me. my sister and I lived with our mom and step dad but every other weekend we went to my dads house and stayed with him. He never remarried but recently he was been dating a new girl. its a little weird sometimes but its his life. the bell rang and that made me sigh a little as I wouldn't get to see him till later now unless we do end up ditching a class or something. I looked up at him and went on my tippy toes and gave him a kiss on the lips. I used to hate the thought of PDA but now that we've been together fro this long I don't really mind.

  • Laughing softly he nodded eagerly. "Of course anything for you." Even if the parade wasn't his favorite things about homecoming he still loved it because she did. Even things he hated like karaoke she had made fun when they had done it. Really he would have done absolutely anything for her no matter what it took to make her smile. She had been the only one he had loved and really he couldn't imagine it any other way. Hearing the bell ring he wrapped his arm around her shoulders briefly before pulling away with a long sigh. "I'll see you in a bit okay?" He said smiling as he leaned forward and kissed her again before he pulled away and started to walk away giving her a goodbye wave before turning to hurry down the hall so he could make it in time. Even a couple periods away from her were hard for him. Although it was kind of sad to think it was their last year in high school he was excited to see what would come next after this. They had it all planned out they were going to ASU and it was going to be great he just knew it. Strolling into class he plopped down next to the teacher's desk.

  • I nodded my head to him and then watched him walk to class. I turned and made my way back to the dacnce studio and when I got there I wasn't alone. there were a couple girls from my team who were also practicing for the football game on Friday. it was a tradition for the seniors to come up with the dance and thats what we did. we worked very hard on it as we wanted it to leave a lasting impression on everyone. as the music was playing and we were just messing around there was a loud beep beep beep on the intercom. we turned the music down and listened to what was going to be said over the loud speaker. hello students, sorry to interrupt class but I have some very important announcements. first, remember to by your ticket to the homecoming dance before Friday. tickets are $15 each. Next what everyone has been waiting for all morning, the candidates for king and queen. The boys are Cooper Anderson, Cooper Anderson was your typical jock. he played football as the kicker for the team. Micah Connor and Justin Jaydis. Justin Jaydis was also on the soccer team with Micah, he played the goalie and he was also in the band playing the trumpet. When I heard Micahs name I was so proud of him and how far he has come to get voted as a candidate. I couldn't wait to tell him how I happy I was for him. now on to the laddies. Kelsey Mickelson, Alison Clearly, and Hailee Oscarlen. you have until Thursday at 3 to vote for king and queen. good luck to all and happy homecoming week. I couldn't believe me and Micah got chosen. though there wasn't really a thought that I would have a chance to win against Kelsey and Alison. Kelsey was in all the school plays as the lead and has the highest GPA in the senior class. she's also our class president. Alison isn't exactly the brightest you'd meet but she's pretty nice. she is also a cheerleader and used to be on the dance team sophomore year. I knew that Micah could win. everyone liked him as he was nice to everyone and didn't really have any bad blood with anyone. I looked at my phone and texted Micah right away. Meet me by the balcony in the gym!!!! I couldn't wait any longer and said bye to all my friends who were congratulating me for being nominated. I hurried to the gym and waited there for him on the railing. the balcony wasn't used often only during basketball and volley ball games. it over looked the gym and was right across from the students section. the only people in the gym were the people going into the weight room or lockers rooms for PE class.

  • His attention was on a large stack of papers the science teacher wanted graded by the end of the period. His eyes moved endlessly between the key and the worksheets. He was marking a question when the beep came on. The whole class seemed to fall into a hush. Everyone was really curious to find out who the candidates were this year. Leaning back Micah listened looking up at the intercom beside the clock. The fact Cooper got it didn't really seem to surprise him at all. He was a popular kid and a decent kicker. When his name was called though he was surprised. Every set of eyes in the class turned to look at him. It was really news to him since it wasn't even a thought that had crossed his mind. Maybe it should have but, it just wasn't. Blinking he came back to earth just in time to hear the last guy's name. It was Justin which wasn't really a huge deal to him. Perking up as they started announcing the queen candidates he did get a little more on edge when the first two names weren't Haliee's. She deserved this way more then he did for sure. When she was finally announced he found himself smiling widely excited that not only she had made it but, they had made it together. When the announcements ended a bunch of the underclassmen came up and congratulates him on it. He simply smiled and thanked them somewhat shyly since he was still in a bit of shock anyone had thought he was good enough to be a king candidate. When his phone buzzed he smiled down at the message before glancing up at the teacher. This wasn't the first time he had asked her to let him leave class to meet with Haliee. Sighing she opened the drawer and slide out the pass. Giving him the pass and a congratulations on making it he nodded before gathering up his bag leaving the worksheets only a third of the way graded. Walking down the hall people talked to him as he passed. He smiled and talked briefly with all of them. When he finally made it to the gym he slipped through the door and briefly waved up at Haliee before climbing the stairs. Making it to the top he let out a soft laugh running up to her pulling her into a hug. "I can't believe we made it! I knew you would make it but, I never thought we'd both make it." Micah exclaimed earning some strange looks from some people down below.

  • Me? Ha your kidding! I replied to his remark as he approached me. If anything it was 100% you! I mean mr.soccer stud and all I gave him a little playful nudge on the shoulder. Sorry for disturbing your class just was so excited that I needed to see you! With that I gave him a soft kiss on the lips and a smiled formed as I pulled away. There were a few freshman sitting on the bleachers across from them who just have gotten done with their work out in pe early that were whispering and giggle as they looked at us. Honestly nothing can ruin this homecoming I think I said with a slight sigh, not a sad sigh a happy one. I leaned my head into his shoulder and played with the hem of his shirt

    -wow this is weak sorry!!

  • Laughing he looked at her unconvinced still. "Yeah it's my football stud skills that did it." Of course he thought that Haliee was the only reason that they both made it. He didn't see any reason why he would have earned it. Yeah he was good at soccer but, he didn't think he had many good qualities past that. Still, he couldn't be happier about today. They were going to have an amazing final homecoming week. "Believe me all I'm missing is marking stuff with red ink." Of course he would rather be right here then grading papers. Glancing over at the freshmen whispering he shook his head softly leaning against the railing biting his lip. "I think it'll be the best homecoming yet." He assured believing it would be. What reason did he to think otherwise? Everything was perfect right now. He had an amazing girlfriend who he couldn't imagine not spending the rest of his life with and the homecoming game was going to be the biggest of the season. Rubbing his hand down her back he laughed kissing the top of her head.

"Think we have any shot at all?" Micah didn't really think there was a chance but, it was still fun to think about it.

    (It's fine ^^)

  • come to think of it, they maybe did have good odds. they were both pretty well known throughout the school. maybe not the most popular but they were up there. they both had the whole team they were on, him soccer and her dance. Neither of them had an 'enemy'. I looked up at him with hope in my eyes I think that we do have a chance I turned my body to face him but even if we don't you'll still be the cutest candidate out there. I winked to him and planted a kiss on his cheek. I couldn't wait for school to be over and go to the parade and hang out with him tonight. my mom had a diner to attend to and my step dad was going with them to it and my sister was going to the parade with her friends then she had volley ball practice so the house was pretty much ours until late. I also couldn't wait for Micahs soccer game tomorrow and cheer him on. there were dress up themes for the games this week and soccers dress up theme was beach day so my friends and I came up with the idea to dress as lifeguards, then to the volley ball game the theme was black out so everyone wore all black then for the. football game it was school colors(white, red, black) I don't want class to start again I just want to be with you all day now I said with a pouty look on my face as if he could make school end.

  • Seeing the hope in her eyes he couldn't help but, smile. If she thought they could win then so did he. "Not when I'm standing next to you." He insisted with a soft smile wrapping his arms around her. He couldn't, wait until school was over. Then he would get to spend the afternoon with her after he dropped off his sister and brother at the babysitters technically he could have taken them both but, luckily his mom thought him and Haliee should enjoy their senior homecoming week. Of course he hadn't told her yet that he wasn't going to be able to hang out for long after the parade since he had a doctor's appointment that he couldn't get out of. His mother was the type that took you to the doctor if you sneezed so he wasn't really that worried about anything being serious. Pouting back at her he nodded clearly not wanting to leave her either. "Yeah if I wouldn't get dention for it I would stay up here with you all day." Micah smiled softly leaning his forehead against her's. "Excited about my game tomorrow?" He asked raising his eyebrow.

  • Yes aren’t you? I looked at him with a smile on my face. I picked at the hem of my shirt and heard then felt my phone buzz. I grabbed it and saw a text from my mom saying she left money on the table Incase we wanted to order pizza or something later tonight. Your gonna do so good! I know you guys will win I’d never been one for sports other than dance. The only time I did anything involving a sport was when Micah wanted to go outside and practice soccer and even then I wasn’t very good. And he told me too! Not being mean though, he was just always joking around. I was really excited for Thursday now too. At coronation they announced all the sports teams and who were on the teams and the captions of each then they announced the king and queen. And Saturday was the dance and I was very excited especially since I loved my dress and it just got here yesterday. I looked at him once again at least we can hang later I gave him a Kiss on the lips. I loved kissing him it made me feel so close to him and gave me a spark.

  • "Of course I am! We're at the top of our game this season." He bragged knowing that they had almost a guarented win. The team was working like a well oiled machine and the competition wasn't anything special so far. They're record this season was pretty stellar too. The whole team was ready to go tomorrow. "You'll be there to cheer me on?" He questioned although he already knew she would be. She'd even drove up to one of his away games it was quite the surprise seeing her. He tried to cheer her on whenever he could. He even put signs in the dance room just to say he loved her. Yeah he teased her a bit but, he always tried to do things for her to show her he loved her. "Yeah we'll get to hang out together later." He paused briefly when she leaned forward and kissed him. Smiling softly he cupped her face in her hands. "I love you baby." He said softly wrapping his arms around her waist. "I'm going to have to leave early tonight. I'll still be able to stay with you for a while I've just a doctor's appointment." He explained looking down at her.
